I searched for hours and couldn't find the answer. Anyway, when I use the built-in gmail apps (froyo), does it make a ssl connection to google server? I have no way to tell.
Hmm. No one care about encryption for their email :-(

No, I am talking about built-in gmail apps, not the email client where you can set your incoming and outgoing port, connection...

Has anyone had a problem with sending Email? My captivate has been fine up until this point, but for some reason starting today I can recive emails, send txt and mms and everything but Emails just sit there and say sending. I am rooted but thats about it. Anyone have any suggestions or seen this before? I tried doing the hard reset and all but nothing seems to be working. I flashed back to my nandroid back up and still not sending. Thanks.
Chris
You talking from the native Email client or the Gmail client?
If you're talking native Email client, try "updating" your IMAP/POP (or whatever you're using) outbound settings and then resend. See if refreshing the connection settings fixes anything.
BTW, this is the first I've read of this kind of issue...I am not seeing it.
Make sure the outgoing SMTP server settings are not biting you.
If you have the outgoing server settings for your wireless carrier's SMTP but are transmitting via WiFi it can cause a problem. The opposite is also true as in you have set the outgoing smtp for your ISP but are not using WiFI at the moment.
I mention this because it is a frequent cause of people losing outgoing email ability after setting up their accounts and then logging into a wireless access point.
...Lets say your wireless providers outgoing server is CWMX.com (at&t) but you are connected to your home wireless router that is using Time Warner Cable. If your phone is using a local network connection such as your home wireless router and not sending data through AT&T's network it will not be able to find CWMX.com. It would need to be set for your ISP outgoing SMTP or switch back to AT&T network for data.
Im not guaranteeing this is your problem but this would be my first guess with the little information provided.
Sorry for lack of details. It is actually the Gmail client that will not let me send emails. When i set up the native Email system I can both send and Recieve. Its just when I use the Gmail client that it just sits there and says sending, but never sends. I can recieve email all day long in the Gmail client.
1. Do you happen to be using Juice Defender or and automatic task killer?
2. Did this happen for the first time AFTER you restored a backup?
3. Have you tried clearing data/cache?
I have cleared data/cache, it did not happen after the back up it was before, and I do use a task killer. Its just odd because even maildroid and k-9 will send emails. Its only my gmail app that will not send them.

Google haas been making changes to the gmail servers recently. There is a thread in the Google support forums about it (don't have the link handy) that may have something to do with it.

I was referring to the task killer as a possible issue. Some people have had problems with task killers shutting down email sync. I' lost for ideas. Hope you can get it worked out. Though I have not experienced this, you definitely are not the only person with the issue.
Good luck!
I have had the same problem. It does send just not right away particularly emails with attachments. I sent an MP3 yesterday to a friend and it sat in the outbox for over and hour. I send a one line email today and went out instantly
email issues

So the last two weeks my yahoo mail app has not been pushing any of my mail messages, I have to open the app to retrieve them. I have validated that the push service is running, anyone else getting this?

The push service alone is not what pushes mail. The push and mail sync services work together to push mail to your device. I've seen this issue, as have others. After a while, the mail sync service will stop (for whatever reason), which stops the mail being pushed. Opening the app will restart the service, which is why mail pops up and may even push correctly for a while again. I've found that it doesn't consistently deliver mail, as the mail sync service can't seem to stay running.
uninstall the app and redownload it. I have heard somewhere that yahoo switches server settings every so often and it will cause sync issues. only solution when it happens is to totally uninstall and redownload
We all know by now that the phone has been weird with emails. Sometimes the push email works and sometimes it doesn't. My main issue was my Gmail. I have 3x Gmail and 2x Work.
This is what I did. So far, it's working 100%.
Please know, this will only work if you DON'T use the Gmail app.
1. Factory wiped the phone. Once started up, do not add your Google account yet.
2. Go into Settings and Apps and disable all your bloatware while you're here and make sure you disable the Gmail app. When you get out of it, it'll reload Sense. After this, go ahead and reboot your phone to be safe.
3. Now go ahead and go to Settings and Accounts and add your Google account. With Gmail disabled, it will not sync your email. Your choice if you want to sync Contacts.
4. Next, setup your Gmail via Microsoft Exchange via server method. Email and Username is your full email address. Leave Domain blank. The server address is m.google.com
5. When finished, set it up Push Email and not Smart Sync. If you did not sync your Contacts via Google, you can do it here also. Same with Calendar and Tasks.
Done!

With this method, I haven't had any issues...YET
Please comment if this works well for you.
Maybe we can see if it's just Gmail accounts in general or any Microsoft Exchange accounts too.
Please NO iOS vs Android statements
Or you can do what I did and go into your advanced wifi settings and enable Best Wifi Performance. Since I enabled this my push notifications have been coming instantly.

I had the issue regardless on WiFi, 4G, or LTE.
I am on LTE 100% so I prefer my faster connection
I know that this thread is about not using the Gmail app but I saw on the other thread about the email issues that some people complained about the Gmail app being slow too with getting push notifications.
I am a first time Android user and I have noticed that it usually takes several minutes for my phone to notify me in the GMail app. Is this normal across Android phones or does this push notification bug also affect the GMail app too?

This is NOT normal. The native gmail app should receive emails within 5-10 seconds (max) of when they would show up in your account if you were using a computer.

What worked for me was extremely simple. After I setup the accounts, I went back into "Accounts & Sync" and under each account, I simply toggled "Sync Mail" off, then back on. After I did that to each account, push was enabled and working on all accounts.

So does anyone know of any solution to fix the issue for the Gmail app?

My Gmail app doesn't push all my mail. When I check my gmail on my laptop, there is still unread mail in my inbox???
I just got my s3 today and have tried everything I can find to get my notification to pop up. I checked and unchecked the sync settings in the gmail app and also the settings. Then cleared app data and restarted the phone in between. All settings are checked to sync. It does show my work email through.
U need to go into Gmail and pick your email address ad set it up like this at least

I'm having an issue with the stock email app where I can only seem to get my emails while on wifi. Anytime I leave my house or work where I am connected to wifi, I get a message that says "Can't Sign In". If it makes any difference, I am using my Yahoo email account. I know one solution is to use the official Yahoo app, but I want to do what I can to stick with the stock email app
I saw a tip somewhere on XDA that said to change the Incoming and Outgoing server settings and this worked for a bit but the settings seem to change itself. The tip was to delete the word android from both server names, changing the Incoming server from "android.imap.mail.yahoo.com" to "imap.mail.yahoo.com" and changing the Outgoing server from "android.smtp.mail.yahoo.com" to "smtp.mail.yahoo.com"
Anyone?
In the meantime I started using the official Yahoo Mail app, but I'd like to use the stock email app if anyone could help me? Thanks
It could help you: http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?page=content&y=PROD_MAIL_ML&locale=en_US&id=SLN4075
EDIT
I've just tried with a Yahoo address email and the stock Email app. Everything is automatically configured. I can show you my settings if needed.
Make sure you didn't prevent background data for the app
