so i was just "surfing" at an iohone devs forum

this is hugely usefull in cases like nexus one
i know trackball do that but have u tried to do it while shooting ur self

What if holding down the vol + button zoomed in. And holding - zoomed out. That way we would never have to worry about missing the soft key or messin up gestures. The way I hold my fone, the vol keys are super accessible too.
Just a thought.

i like this idea .. another thing i would love is to actually be able to disengage the volume buttons altogether .. annoying to be in the middle of something and bump them accidently .. i'd rather take the long way thru the menu to change my volume .. perfect spot for a zoom tho
Yeah that would be cool.
I mean who really uses the volume rocker in the browser anyway?
I don't remember the last time I did.
The next JF should include all these different options for zooming in the settings.
Also an option to get rid of the soft zoom keys could be nice since sometimes they get in the way when multitouch zooming.
I'm agree, i pretty much never want to adjust my ringer volume, in fact, it annoys me that I'm always accidentally doing it and missing calls. would be nice to have the rocker be zoom in maps and browser, and only in call volume and media player volume when you are in those apps.
Yeah, the volume control app is great and because of it I never use the rocker.
So lets make happen! (directed towards JF)
really love the volume control over the browser. even my wife likes the idea
Another idea...
sorry if anyone is getting annoyed with me posting ideas all the time, and nothing else.
maybe there is already an app like this, i havent found one though...
i was taking pictures today, and couldnt help but notice, if you turn it (hd2/leo) upside down in landscape mode, the volume rocker (volume up, the top end) is in the perfect place for a hardware camera button, to actually take the photo. with the softkey camera button, its a little awkard... but the volume rocker would proved a nice feel to taking a photo, and improve things like timing, maybe.
Also, you can't listen to music while taking photos anyway, let alone make a call, so actually, in that moment in camera mode, those buttons are sitting around with nothing to do...
but, alas, i know nothing about things like this... mapping hardware buttons and such.
i should learn, but right now time is just something i dont have too much of.
let me know what you think, and if there is an app like this already, please, link it!
personally i think the "pick up" key would make a nice "shutter" using the volume rocker as zoom in and out. This topic has come up several times about mapping the shutter to a button.

Shutter!!!! thats the word i was looking for..
I think it would be great if these functions could be configured by the user.
i think for me, the pick up key and other buttons would make a better zoom.. but i think the volume rocker has potential as a zoom function given that it is in fact, a rocker.
but the zoom on the hd2 isnt very substantial, that could nee improvement too.. if at all possible.

try it
on the pro2 with the KB config app i used to always remap the vol up key to take pictures but for some reason when i remap the key the same way i have for a long time, it just wont work any more!!! its to bad because i used to love having this as a option!!!
Hey I'd love to work on this but I'm not sure where to start so I'll request it. I'd like to see something like trackball wake for the Nexus but use the volume button on the EVO. Also the menu button unlock so we don't have to swipe. I know Metalhead now has the menu unlock on the market. It doesn't seem to work, but maybe he can tweek it too.
What trackball?
He said he would like to see something LIKE the trackball wake but using the volume keys because we dont have a trackball.

If anyone finds an app or something that will allow the EVO to wake from the 4 front buttons please let me know either on here or PM. Its the only feature keeping me from getting an EVO.
No I'm not as picky as it sounds lol, its a dexterity issue.
i would say you woul want it to be one of the touch buttons on front since you would always hit em by mistakednt
Double tap of the menu would work for me, I'd even prefer it but I assume that the driver and hardware for the screen and for the soft buttons at the bottom of the screen are the same. While we could always leave the screen on and watch for touch input all the time I think it would kill the battery.
But if someone knows of the soft buttons using a separate driver or hardware then we could consider it.
What I was suggesting was to go from off to using it press the volume down key and then menu vs. pressing power then swiping the screen unlock thing. Of course you could do the volume and then swipe too, but the menu button would be a added benefit.
has this been developed and i just haven't seen it........ Shinzul has developed this currently for cm6..... .....just a brilliant idea......

i mean... if i had a clue i'd take a stab at it~
bump.. no love~
You can remap your volume keys to act as your camera button. I did this with my hero and just tried it with my evo and it worked. I haven't tried it with any of the touch buttons. The only thing about doing it this way is that your volume button will only act as a camera button and not a volume button anymore.

Edit: The touch sensitive buttons do work. I use the search button as my camera button. Also, long pressing the remapped button will launch the camera app.
I made a thread that remaps search to camera. This will disable the search function though.

cool guys.. thanks.. checking this now!!!!
big ups~
Hey everybody, this is my first post on xda , so please don't flame me with " Wrong category " replies and stuff like that.
I own a Sansung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300T. Everything is fine with it, except for a stupid little volume up button. Before you jump to conclusions, the volume rocker is not the problem. What I've done is removed the volume rocker and used a pin to press the ACTUAL VOLUME TACTILE BUTTON. The volume down works perfectly, but no matter how much pressing, depressing, and holding, the volume up tactile won't do jack s***. Ive had to make do with just pressing down then using the on screen slider to turn it up. Frustrating.
I haven't modified the Android (4.3 Jelly Bean) or installed a custom kernel or anything like that, everything is OEM
Anyway I could fix this myself?
Thanks for your support,
