Just a FYI for anyone interested, I am taking a crack at porting psfreedom to the epic4g. Not sure who would be interested in trying to use this.

EDIT 11/02/2010
Here is a psfreedom.ko if anyone wants to try it, I had to setup the Epic to load it on startup (via RC script) on DI18 stock, but using Epic Experience 1.2.04 with MixUp DI18 Voodoo I was able to load it after startup.
Good luck.
Fortunately it isn't my first song and dance with linux kernel modules, so at least that is going for the effort.

good luck will be looking forward to this if u get it working
Well, I have it compiling, which is definitely a good sign, just have to fight an insmod problem and making sure I don't lock myself out of my phone in the process. I will let everyone know how the process goes from here.
Will throw a donation your way if you can get this running. Was gonna order the key but I would rather just have my phone compatible.

I am very interested in this! I was about to use my sisters MT3G to try it out, but my lovely roommate updated my PS3 today to 3.42, do you know if they posted a updated fix for PSFreedom yet?
Anyways good luck and can't wait.
i would certainly love this
Good luck with that man. Im no dev but I'd definately help test this. Maybe you can ask for help from the guy who originally ported it to android if you need any. Thanks again for your efforts
hell yea i will donate for sure if you get it working
I would also donate if it could be done by this weekend.

Well I damn well hope to have it working by the weekend, otherwise I'll have to find a Pre with a broken screen or something for this weekend's use.

Epic 4G = Samsung Vibrant for T-Mobile ?
the hardware drivers wouldnt be all that different but im sure would still need a revision of sorts. i cant imagine they used different usb chips in the different versions.
just to clarify to everyone when this works (not if ) the very concept of it means you will lose all usb functions aka mass storage (access to your sdcard over usb), adb tethering and anything but charging. if its possible to make it into a script so that whatever file may be needed can make a backup and rename the original and then another script to make it revert then you could flip flop
However according to my knowledge you only have to run the exploit once to get backup manager on your ps3. Therefore couldn't we just run this script load up the exloit then flash back to stock and be done with it. Its not like you have to keep the exploit on your phone to use backup manager...

Shoot221,
Can you PM me? I need some info on the vibrant to build that in parallel.
Bubby323,
Wrong. You need it attached on each startup of the PS3. I will make this as user friendly as possible.

[UPDATE]
There was some confusion caused with my posting. This app will not allow you to dial EPST codes from an AOSP ROM. As of right now that functionality doesn't work. I think its a good goal to work towards that, but much work is needed before that happens.
This app had 2 goals in mind during its inception. 1) allow 2.2 users to dial EPST codes. If you remember back to early releases of 2.2 the EPST system was botched. 2) to eventually allow any Sprint phone to dial EPST codes. This was a lofty goal but possibly feasible.
As of right now this app needs some work from serious devs because natively it doesn't do much.
Hope this helps.
[OG]
This is an app my brother and I worked on, but didn't get far with. Things came up stuff happens right? Specifically, HTC fixed their dialer code issue in 2.2 so this app was put on hold.
That said, I think there are two positives with this app. 1) it just makes dialing the codes easier, and we can update it to have a fancy screen where you pick the code and it dials.
2) We can use it to figure out how to get cross-ROM functionality. This is a maybe, but this app gives us the best shot.
More to come, for now you can download the app files here. Just follow the MIT license and all is well.
These files will need to be compiled, it is not an APK. Sorry for the confusion I caused. I can work on turning this into an APK if people want, but it wont do much good. The app is very much in its infancy.

Will most likely work from the browser on the phone as well
not sure if this is the best place to ask this, but your app looks promising and seems related. does anyone know if the ## dialer codes are related to the modem AT commands? there seems to be some correlation between the two and i'm not sure if it's just coincidence or if the ## codes relate directly to the AT commands.
the reason i ask is that i was searching for info on the ##gpsclrx# fix and i found a pdf that lists some AT commands supported by qualcomm cdma chips, including $GPSCLRX. there's quite a few other ones that match up too. i haven't figured out how to send AT commands to my phone, but was hoping that it could be done through the dialer or a program like yours, and hopefully some of these commands could help troubleshoot some GPS issues that CM7 nightlies have.
Link is formatted wrong. Just remove the http:// in front of the https

The link works perfectly fine for me, but I will double check the html.
The file is just a zip, extract it to get the APK and install like any other app from there. I'll post more directions in a minute.
A lot of improvements can be made to this app, so I'm hoping people step up.

No idea. I have another thread on ## Dialer codes and you could ask there, but I'm not sure if anyone has looked into this.
The point of this thread and the app I have listed here is to hopefully help AOSP based ROM users to be able to use the dialer codes.

is this dead? or to good to be true?
I highly doubt this but I wonder if this app would work with CM7 roms?? If so, this would save a lot of time flashing inbetween sense and CM7 in order to get the GPS working and just accessing EPST in general!

We'll know as soon as webs05 puts up the flashable zip or apk. Based on the description, this is basically designed to provide AOSP with EPST-like menu access, so if it does indeed work, then it should work on CM.

Had the same problem, it's not a glitch, honeycombs kinda a battery hog, I just let my droid charge from the outlet and it turned on on its own. It happens because there's no charging function in the rom, at least from what I can tell.

Samsung Epic 4G [SPH-D700] GRI22 Android 2.3.4 (Sprint Nexus S 4G Port)
VOIP / SIP / GTalk / Google Voice - Outbound and inbound internet calling
PROJECT FOCUS:
1. Deep integration between carrier(Sprint) and Google Voice for free voice calling, without using any of your mobile device's minutes with IP & VOIP integration to GV. Outbound & Inbound calls purely through Google Voice / GTalk using IP or SIP protocol. Also unlimited video calling, SMS, chat, etc...
2. Extend device beyond manufacturer & carrier's service level agreement, allowing the Samsung Epic to be a top player for time to come
3. Provide a base AOSP platform for CDMA Galaxy S & Future Samsung mobile devices
4. Give me another challenge I guess?
5. Give users the ability to flash directly to the boot, sbl, kernel, recovery, cache, and data partitions without odin or heimdall using flash_image and .IMG files instead of .bin, and finally be able to choose more than one file system during flashing, from within a recovery or android itself.
6. SECRET (Soon to be announced)
I want this to be more of a community effort, being that the development for the Epic is seriously lacking, well development. So please, I encourage suggestions and constructive criticism, keep the moronic stuff to a bare minimum if possible.
You don't like it, or have an issue? I don't care. I don't want to hear about it either. Get bent, and go install another theme and call yourself a dev.
First. No 3g?

Screen animations at this point, are pretty much non existent. I'm sorry, but your question falls under the "dumb" category. Why worry about what the screen looks like while turning on or off, when there is a much bigger picture at hand?
I would like to avoid useless posts like the above(no offense) that will do nothing but clutter the thread, and accomplish nothing.

It would be nice since my isp at home tends to suck when making voip calls using udp. I don't know why.

Sarcasm not needed. Please please please please please don't ruin this for us with unneeded comments like that. I swear to god I'll shut down your internet connection.
The screen on question, was in fact, not related to the OP as it wasn't stated as an objective. And I don't care how it was worded, question or not, it was a request, plain and simple. This isn't a space for wondering about features. Its for discussion and discovery as directly related to the OPs objectives. Its what the old XDA used to be, from the archives that I've read.
End of discussion

Welcome back! I'm happy to know that you've fully recovered from that accident and came back with a bang! But here is the real question, does this rom, when its fully working, have to be on 3g in order to make calls? My area has low 3g speeds so I see that as a potential issue if so... I'm just a noob, don't bite... too hard

Okay, so we have gingerbread on the sidekick 4G, and it isn't quite yet a daily driver. I miss some features of Froyo, but crave gingerbread. Would it be possible to create a system that can backup one ROM and reflash the other, being able to switch between the two, such as Froyo in the morning and ginger in the evening?
Sent from my SGH-T759 using xda app-developers app
Sure, but you'll have to make a new recovery that will work with both, the most current recovery for this phone will only work with froyo builds
Oh and I'm referring to just creating and restoring nandroids, a true dual boot bootloader is out of the question

I was thinking something along the lines of an app that could backup the entire phone as an odin file, or maybe a tool that can convert nandroids to odin and flash...being compatible with froyo as well
Also, would you know how to solder a new usb port to this thing? mine is on its way out.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is such a program but my knowledge of Samsung is limited and off hand I can't think of one
As far as soldering goes its not too hard to do, so long as you are at least half way decent at soldering. The new port should run about $5 and while you're at of you may consider doing the unbrickable mod
This however you need to be a bit more skilled as its extra fine soldering with a lot of opportunities for messing up
Best of luck!
