Without telling you how I managed to get an Evo camera, I would like to see if there is a way to get the driver for the 8mp camera from the Evo and possibly getting it to work in a Hero. The camera fits perfectly inside the Hero with all the contacts touching correctly. Is this possible?
IDK about drivers and compatibility but if you pull this off, it would be AWESOME!
wanna try putting my quad core pc processor and all 8 gigs of ram in it for me?
youll have to change the drivers with every rom you flash....(think)

Not really, as by porting the EVO driver you will almost surely break something else. You could try though

If you fit it, and contacts touch perfectly, and you have enough 'power' running to it....
Other than that, the driver would probably have to be re-written to accommodate any hero screen-dependencies.
Go nuts.

Wouldn't he have to use Evo cam apps to and op let us know what happens
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Just because the connectors fit, it doesn't mean it will work. The evo camera most likely uses a lot more power than the hero's, so I doubt it will work.
I'm calling BS. I've taken my Evo apart. The camera is soldered to the mainboard, not connected with a ribbon cable as in the G1 (only other Android I've taken apart).
There's no way you'd be able to get it out unless your some kind of electrical engineering genius with robot hands
yeah i just took my evo apart and put blue leds inside. the camera is soldered in and would not match the hero without some work.
and the power i am sure is alot higher.
Just do what you do to fix your Evo battery:
Step 1. Power off the phone
Step 2. Charge the phone for 8 hours.
Step 3. Take the phone, wave it in an i pattern 15 times
Step 4. Wave it in a d pattern 3 times
Step 5. Wave it in a i patter twice
Step 6. Wave it in a o pattern 7 times
Step 7. Wave it in a t pattern once.
Step 8. Start screaming for 15 seconds.
Step 9. Hit it against a table 4 times
Step 10. Turn on, you should know have a phone running Gingerbread, and an infinity overclocked processor, 8k video camera, and an infinitely running battery.

Wait a second!!...you never got the front facing camera on your hero after flashing Froyo?? I mean the rear one is, in my opinion more than good enough. But after flashing and getting the front one, i can now talk and at the same time see the faces of my friends whilst on 4G or 8G. You wont even think about the rear camera after doing that once or twice
srsly now...why is this in development

The physical part of the camera is NOT bigger. Yes, in mega pixels, but not in size. PM for pictures since i can't post it here.
Or you can just buy an evo. It comes with the evo's screen, case and processor. It even has 4g like an evo

Hello,
Since it seems like no one has ever asked this question before I've decided to post about it.
On the Droid when you dial a phone number and put the phone up to your ear it locks the phone's screen. Then if you are dealing with a PBX or menu system on the phone that requires you to press a certain option and you move the phone away from your ear to tap the dialer, the screen automatically auto-unlocks. This is, by far, the best feature I have seen in a phone to-date.
Where do I get a dialer that supports that feature (it obviously uses the accelerometer)? Somehow I doubt you can just rip the APK out of the Droid image and have it work on a G1. Or does that feature just not work on the G1 for some reason?
Any replies are appreciated.

The Droid uses a proximity sensor to tell when it goes up to your ear:
pocketnow.com said:
The Motorola Droid also has a proximity sensor so that the screen shuts off when you hold the phone close to your face. This helps to conserve battery life while at the same time prevent accidental screen input if your cheeks press upon the screen.

Not sure how you would do the same thing with the Accel.
That feature actually uses the proximity sensor, which the G1 unfortunately lacks.

Not sure why it would be so hard. Accel can tell how it's positioned and the position next to your ear is completely different from that of holding your phone in front of you. It would just require some evaluation and data recording of degrees and ranges.

Not sure about that. If I remember correctly the accell only sees if the phone is in landscape or portrait orientation, and when you are talking on the phone it is almost straight up and down. Not sideways. Will venture to find an answer.
Edit: You almost have to have the phone on its side for the accel to see that you have moved your phone. Don't know about you but when I talk on the phone it is almost up and down.

That certainly can't be since many games, namely Armageddon Squadron (flying game) use the X and Y axis on the phone (roll vs pitch). Also think of rolling objects in games that you have to "steer."

That may be true. I don't have any games on my phone that use the accel. I can only go by logcat durring screen orientation. I am sure you can now, the only problem is at what amout of tilt does the screen lock. And you would have to tie it in to when there is a call connected. Would hate for my sreen to auto lock when I am laying in bed playing with my phone.

Well, of course it's connected to the dialer - that's its only purpose. If the dialer doesn't have foreground then it won't auto-lock.
If developing for Android wasn't such a pain in the ass (compared to C++) and I knew more Java classes/methods then I'd probably just implement this myself. I'll probably get the myTouch Slide soon enough though.
We wouldn't be able to so much measure the exact position to do this but a good shake-like-hell-to-unlock-dialpad event might be possible... If I (or someone) can find some code for a dialer, I'd be happy to take a stab at making it "native..." I know just enough Java/Android to cause some trouble, so it could only be good ;-) If not the dialer, then an app could be started as a service, with an intent to snag the call, and listen for a good jostling. I wonder what this would do to the battery/performance and how often I would have to make it poll the sensor? Hmm....
I'll see if I can poke around and find ANYTHING. Haven't googlified anything yet... I do need something constructive to add to my workload.
And yes, the accelerometer measures force applied to the X, Y and Z axis. you can technically program it to sense when you've dropped (or are dropping) the phone.

I'm not sure if shaking my phone is really much better than tapping the screen twice - both require similar times for completion.

I used to use this on android 1.1. iirc it stopped working on cupcake, and I haven't checked on it since then.
I don't think this would work, because what if you're laying down with the phone? I'm pretty sure it would mess up with the Accel. I'm not too much into this, but when playing a game like teeter for example, the side of your phone has to be horizontal with..the horizon (correct me if I'm wrong)
Dialer wake-up w/o real sensor
Shake Awake never worked too well for me.
I have always wondered in the back of my non-programmer brain if one who was really good could implement a sonar/feedback type code whereby when the phone was close to an ear, the amount of feedback from the earpiece to the mouthpiece was quite low, but drawn away from the ear increased just enough for the phone to pass through to the code through an intent (is there anything like a feedback intent? I bet Meltus would know!), which would issue the commands to unlock and wake-up.
More ideally would be a program which got the earpiece to put out a search tone up around 20 kHz, which would be analyzed by the mouthpiece. Sound present = user has moved the phone away from the ear, wake up and unlock to touchpad, sound muffled or totally gone = user is still using the earpiece, don't unlock.
BTW, all 2.1 eclair ROMs I've used in the past 3 months have a setting for a substantial improvement to screen awake times during calls.
My camera is weird, sometimes it will work (tried roms, kenals, camera mods, fixes you name it) This is what happens when it works, fine in one area like my house for example, go out, come back then it crashes. Looked all over this thread and like i said tried everything. Or have i missed something. For the love of God, what IS going on?.......................
What ROM's have you tried with it?
Not sure what the problem is exactly. Might be a hardware fault if it occurs on different ROM's.
Have you tried using another SD Card?
Maybe some big temperature differences between outside and in the house?
That was just an example, It will work one minute then crash the next, then nothing. different SD card makes no difference

Hi,
So, you are saying that no matter which ROM you are running, you are having camera problems?
That sounds like an hardware issue, and you should consider returning the phone...
i have suspected hardware, but why does it work on occasion? Not working at moment btw. But did three days ago, no problem. Went out for a bit, phone in me pocket, came home. Camera, snafu
Latest on camera problem. Fixed!!!
Here's what you do..
1. Find a hard surface
2. Hold phone in your thumb and first finger (important! face down)
3. Your phone needs to be approx six inches above hard surface (face down)
4. Drop the 'kin thing square on flat on surface
Voila!! Camera fixed
IMPORTANT NOTE!
It worked on mine probably because of hardware problem,
If you try it and it phux your phone it's not my fault,

Hi,
Nice fix
Bookmarked
I want to see if anybody else is experiencing this issue.
Please post if you're rooted/unrooted and if you are rooted, what ROM you're using.
At this point in time, I have submitted a support ticket to HTC as well.
If you are in a low light/low-ish light setting (maybe even more, haven't tried all of them), and you hold your camera close to an object, the phone has trouble auto-focusing. It will attempt to focus, then revert to the blurred image. It seems that the only way to get focus is to find a way to get the camera to focus that image at a moderate distance and move it in close...but very slowly. That doesn't even work all the time. I think this is a SW bug...but I'd like to be sure.
I'm running CleanROM 3.1. (I've experienced this on CleanROM 3.0 as well )
Opened up camera and had the same problem you were describing, then just focused on a farther away object and tried to refocus up close and it worked fine (not using the focus on the object and slowly move closer method)
I tried that, it works sometimes and doesn't work other times (Automatically tries to re-focus and then reverts to a blurry, pre-focus image). It seems inconsistent, but it can work to get focus on close objects. I'm still hoping that HTC irons this one out

I have been looking at this since I picked up the HOX on release day. I'm now running fully stock ROM on the official 1.85 OTA release and I have seen a major increase in up-close focusing from the camera. I haven't made any changes to settings, but since the OTA I have absolutely noticed a marked improvement in ability to lock focus on macro-level objects, even when not in macro (Close Up) mode.
I've had this and even replaced my phone, AND tried several store units and they all do it.

News flash, cameras struggle to focus on subjects in low-light. My $5000 Nikon D4 doesn't always achieve focus correctly. So expecting a cell phone to be perfect in low light is ridiculous.
My One X can't focus on anything close up regardless of light level.

This was suppose to be one of the main features for this phone.
When you start to take burst pics it only flashes for the first pic then no flash for the rest, then all but the first pic look dark and crappy.
Is this normal? Or is my phone defective?

If you want decent camera performance, buy a camera, no phone is going to be able to give you what you are looking for. If a phone could fire the flash successfully in burst mode the battery would be flat in minutes.
Use a different camera app then, that can have the flash(LED) turned on all the time. ZoomFX is capable of doing just that.
As others have said already, if you want such advanced features as a stroboscope, you will have to pay a lot of money for a good system camera.
Even my, at the time, expensive(~4500sek, google it for currency exchange) H2 isnt capable of flashing the flash fast enough for burst fotos.

I need a bit of help concerning the SK4G sd card reader: This phone may take quite a few drops and scratches, but the SD reader doesn't seem able to. No, it's not normal. How old is the battery on your phone? Is it bulging out at all anywhere? It could be in need of replacement. Also, which ROM are you using? Maybe something got corrupted or didn't load correctly? Fishing a bit...
I would be aware of the rom being used as already said. Try out a battery calibrating app.
As for the SD card, is it partitioned? If so maybe that could be affecting it oddly. Just some ideas, hopefully it isn't hardware /:

I've seen this effect on stock and on every other rom I've tried. The Sidekick was a gift from an uncle, so I'm not sure what he did to it....nevertheless, the battery is reported by most battery apps as "good". The battery is not bulging, and it charges. I'm guessing its hardware; I just hope I can afford to fix it.

Nope sd card not partitioned, rom seems fully loaded, its GloriousOverdosev5 although I do have some issues with it not related to battery.
Is there anyone here on this forum who could make sense of the inner circuitry of my phone and see if there is something wrong here? I could take my phone apart (maybe).

That's one of the biggest issues with every single device in the Sidekick series of phones. When it comes to chargers they have always been "finicky". I'm pretty sure it has to do with wattage, but it's a problem that has stayed consistant.
And I guess that's not so bad, maybe it really is something in it's circuitry. I wish I could be more help my friend. /=

True-true I personally would jump for the s4. I like the idea of a waterproof phone, because lets face it, we may not all send our devices toilet-bound but rain and spills are just things that happen. Heck I'd test it myself xD I'm curious exactly what extent this can be used in water...(underwater? ;D) But yeah, I would definitely take the s4
Whoa! The s4 is waterproof?
I suppose it could be battery messing with things, maybe I could carry a spare and avoid dropping this
If sidekicks will continue, tmo had better learn from thier mistakes or this will be like the 4g

I double checked and I guess the S4 Active is a different strain of the S4.... so honestly I'm confused but google it xD as far as I have seen on commercials I really think that is awesome I want one now lol.
EDIT-- Sorry to be a killjoy but I just watched this and it was disappointing. :/

Yesterday I yanked out my battery because of a critical crash after binge web browsing - the battery was at 34 percent but after rebooting it was at less than 10!
This morning I tried to balance my phone on a perch 4 ft off the ground and it fell. Stright on its back. Next thing I know, its crash-booting and I have to yank out, put batt back in turn on and hope SD comes back on. Now I turn it on and SD was working until i accidentally just unplugg it and it booted into charge mode and batt has 1 percent, even though I know its supposed to have like TWENTY percent.
Any way, I have it in charge mode at like 1 percent and I'm trying to turn it back on by accident just well turn it right back to charge mode (you know what I mean right)
and when it starts charging again the battery level is 20 percent. TWENTY!!!!!!!! UGH I CANT STAND THIS THING GOD GIVE ME PATIENCE TIL I GET GINGERBREAD
