So i've spent days researching this topic, googling, forum surfing, and i've learned so much about android but now it's time to get my phone RUNNING: I'm going to put a lot of keywords in here, so forgive my wordiness. My hope is that this post will help others solve this general issue and better keywords move us up the search results. I've seen similar situations before but couldn't find a resolution for: functioning clockworkmod but no bootable rom, and i can't seem to get a bootable rom installed.
HTC Desire on verizon (CDMA/ Bravo C or bravoc)
Used unrevoked on the phone and everthing seemed to be working fine. I then tried to load a custom Rom (see below) and now i can't get my phone functioning!
I do not have a bootable ROM, but i have clockworkmod recovery v2.5.0.1 installed and functioning. i can mount the SD using USB Mount under paritions, but can't figure out how to mount internal storage. I have microsd to Usb reader so i can move files easily. I also have another functioning droid Incredible. I have formatted this microSD card using ROM manager and assigned the 4gb card to (512 ext, 32 swap) i did this after formatting on my windows PC to straight fat32.
I've loaded several roms and get symlink errors for
Official-Froyo_2.10.405.2.zip
E: can't symlink /system/xbin/su
E: Failure at line 79:
symlink /system/bin/su SYSTEM:xbin/su
Bravo_WWE_2.29.405.5_v5.zip
E: can't symlink /system/xbin/su
E: failure at line 88:
symlink /system/bin/su SYSTEM:xbin/su
32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14.zip
Is the radio installed and seems to be working properly.
I cannot get the RUU to work for this unit because i can''t mount the internal storage drive such that the installer will detect it.
I've gotten android commander working through the SDK/ ADB but i get some kind of timeout error after a few seconds of using the program. AC will detect my phone but when i try to use it to install ROMs i get No Device Found popup.
I need to get this phone working properly even if it is back to 2.1 stock, but i can't find a ROM that isn't locked up in an EXE file to install. can someone help? I'll be responding to replys with info very quickly, i need to get this phone running for a trip!
Hey, I keep trying to extend my U20i memory following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804574 ..and keep failing
I made it through once, but for some reason it didn't move the apps onto my sd card - maybe cause I haven't flashed my ROM before..
But as I try it again now, with my ROM freshly flashed, SD card freshly divided(http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning), every time I try the command adb shell, it gives me an error Device not found. (card unmounted..)
Could anyone help me? Thanks
PS: Since I don't see a way of searching through this forum, I created a new thread.
I have a HTC Desire GSM, I have follwed Linkslovesandroids guide for Noobs on how to root the device all the way through to adding a custom ROM with no problems however when I try a new ROM I get the above error. I have tried various ROM's I have renamed the file to update.zip, checking that windows has not named it as update.zip.zip. I have recreated the partition on the SDCARD using gparted all other stps in the guide were successful I cannot see what I am doing wrong, I am a noob so obviously doing something wrong, can anybody help please? This was an excellent guide form Linkslovesandroid but it is frustrating being so close and not able to load a custom ROM, my ophone is back to factory defaults very uncool.
redownload and reextract again will fix maybe with an another dl link or version
I have tried with several different ROM's but it always comes up with the the same error, it's so frustrating to be so close and still not able to complete the task.
thanks
Matt
Hi Guys.. I have a Dell Streak 5 ... and I have the same issue...
I have not been able to install the new 1.9.1 rom =(
I have tried everything that I know... but it did not work.
I created the install.txt file, and I downloaded (in different ways) the update-1.9.1.zip file. I use StreakDroid and I face the error:
-- Installing: SDCARD:update.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(bad)
Installation Aborted.
Any help is welcome !!!! Thank you guys =)
Delete the ROM in your PC then redownload again, rename to update.zip and put it in your phone's SD Card.
Is your phone rooted? if so, disable signature verification in recovery. Also are you trying to upgrade to Gingerbread?
try manually directing the phone to the file (by using install zip from sdcard instead of apply update from sdcard)
I am also having this issue, can someone give a solution?
Cwm version you use some? or update from the original !
hi...
I have the same problem, but I'm trying to back from ICS to GB...
I've also tried installing another ICS but the same problem... What happens also when I try to restore my backups, it also gives me error that goes like 'MD5 mismatch'...
Does anyone knows what might be the problem..?
thanks
i have the same problem
---------- Post added at 09:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:09 PM ----------
i changed my cwm . buy it didn't work !!!!
I think that your problem is due to Recovery not validatng signatures on your update.zip files. I have CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.4 and there is an option to toggle signature verification.

I have the same problem and have toggled signature verification on and off. It makes no difference. Keeps saying Install aborted.
Been at it for 2 days now. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Solution: (Bad) Installation Aborted & Error mounting /sd-ext!
I, using HTC Wildfire S (Marvel) S-Off, had the exact same problem.
Had tried almost everything, & was now even unable to flash the Roms previously flashed to this Device. (Tried All Sorts of Wiping!)
It all suddenly happened, after I forced the "recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img" into the device (With "Wildfire_S_CWM_Recovery"),
& partitioned my SD with fat32 & some ext3/4 (Don't quite remember!), due to the reason that I was currently using "update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-marvel-03_29_2012", (The Unofficial CyanogenMod) which didn't have any Google Market (Google Play), & was not even accepting APK Installations (Unknown sources Checked!), & had a previous version of Rom Manager (Unable to update), with the old ClockworkMod Recovey in it. (...Some 5.0.0.2 version).
(And It wasn't even able to boot into the Recovery after Flashing to this CyanogenMod Rom!)
(Tsk Tsk Tsk ... Now I was unable to flash any Rom! & became Rom Less, on this device, for that Moment.)
(Tried Se7en Different Roms, including Stock Rom "PG76IMG_Marvel_HTC_Europe_2.13.401.2_Radio_47.23a.35.3035H_7.53.39.03M_release_225747_signed")
(But recieved the same Errors on all of 'em)
Without Toggling any Signature Verification, I recieved the following!
Installing /sdcard/update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-marvel-03_29_2012.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-marvel-03_29_2012.zip
(bad)

And the following, when I Toggled the Signature Verification, for any Rom!
Installing /sdcard/update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-marvel-03_29_2012.zip

Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed

The Solution! (Discovered by Logic & Experimenting) . . .
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Note: Must Use SDcard of size larger than 2 GB!)
First Reformat the SDcard with "SD Formatter", the following way:-
Click to collapse
Download & Install "SD Formatter".
Use SDcard Reader to connect your SDcard to your Computer (If Possible),
Run "SD Formatter", (It should automatically detect your connected SDcard!)
Select Format Option & Choose the Following:-
Click to collapse
Format Type: Full (Overwrite),
& Format Size Adjustment: ON!
(Once formatting is done, your SDcard would show its actual Size!)
(Note: This is a solution within itself, to Revive the Fasle (Lunix) Partitioned SDcards that windows is unable to Read Or Detect!)
Click to collapse
Now, Reformat the SDcard to Fat32 with Windows!
After this 2nd Format, Copy the desired Rom (* .Zip) back into the SDcard!
Now Mount this SDcard to your Device (& Reboot into Recovery!).
Then Install the Rom with "ClockworkMod Recovery".
(This should work fine, & if Not*, then your Rom is Corrupt or Mismatched!)
Once the Device boots up successfully, & everything starts Operating, Switch Off the Device!
Unmount the SDcard, & Create an ext3 partition (of any size, but Not greater than 2048 MB!),
for extending the Internal memory of the Device!, with any Software e.g. "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition".
(Some Roms Require Certain Partitioning, but Remember Never to Partition before Installing/Flashing & successfully Booting Up the Rom!)
Click to collapse
*Still, If Something doesn't feel right, Just Manually Flash/Install your 'Boot.img' from the Rom (* .Zip)(after formatting your SDcard with the Process mentioned above), by using "AndroidFlasher" & Then you just might be able to Flash/Install your Rom from the ClockworkMod Recovery . . !
Click to collapse
(My Apologies for the Inconvenience of not Providing the Links of the mentioned Softwares & Applications above!

Google N1 Nexus One => SD card formatting => CyanogenMod 7.2
This was a very important step for me, after like 4+ hrs of tearing my hair out.
I had this N1 (Google's originally sold only online) Nexus One that I'm planning to use for whatev.
I did the bootloader unlock using the latest(downloaded on Nov 02 2012) SDK's fastboot oem unlock command.
After failing with the ClockworkMod ROM (probably the same reason due to the SD card), I've tried the Amun_Ra recovery + ROM, which is basically the same.
But, kept failing with the zip file opening during the ROM flashing. Made no sense, as the card was visible, the ROM zip checked out.
However, the SD card came from my Samsung GSII, and was formatted in that device.
Then I bumped into this suggestion, found another SD card and formatted it with the Mac version of SD Formatter (from sdcard dot org).
This is only relevant for those that would venture into using CGM on an N1, like me.
It's possible and not that complicated, but some of these tricks can come into play, like this card formatting.
I had this issue too, and realised it was a result of removing the sdcard from my pc before the zip was completely copied. Ouch!
Copied over the new zip, safely removed hardware and waited until it was finished solved the issue.
too late the answer but may help others

I formatted with that programm and I can´t access to the SD card from the computer and from the mobile phone.
What did I do wrong? I followed all the steps propperly.
Hello XDA,
Before anything, I just wanted to introduce myself, and say thank you. My name is Tyler, and i've had a LG Optimus V for Virgin Mobile for a few months now. I've heard about rooting your phone, but have always been afraid to on the risk of bricking it. Thanks to this AMAZING site/forum and all the great and wonderful people that post on it, I did some research throughout the forum and found so much helpful information that I had grew enough confidence to root my phone. Now here I am, 2 days into my rooted phone! So honestly, thank you XDA, everyone has been so helpful and great.
Now, on to my question . I apologize if this is not in the correct spot in the forum, but I was unable to post in the development due to this being my first post. I'm trying to partition my SD card so I could save my internal storage space, and install to my SD. I looked at a few other posts, and gathered as much information as I can. Basically, here is what I have done so far:
1) Download/Installed Link2SD on my phone.
2) Connected SD to my PC, and using MiniTool Partition Wizard I created 2 partitions for the SD card.
As I read in a few other posts, I know there are some things to remember when partitioning. Please let me know if there is anything I missed. I created my first, main, partition. From my 4GB card, I made the first partition 3.4GB. Made sure it was "Primary", and a file system of FAT32. The remaining 306MB I created my 2nd Partition. This one, also "primary", and a EXT2 file system. Applied all settings.
3) Restored all my original files back to Partition1 of card.
4) Mounted card into phone, and started Link2SD. This is where my problems are happening. When it starts, I get a note about my second partition, and what file system I want for it. I am given the options of EXT2, EXT3, EXT4, or FAT16/FAT32. Any option I click on I get an error message. Every one says "Mount script can not be created.", but with a different note at the bottom. For the FAT16/FAT32 Option, it still says it cant be created, but theres another line under it saying "mount: Invalid argument"
All of the EXT's have the same error message when clicked on it. It says about the mount script can not be created, but then under that it says "mount: No such device" under that it says "ext2 (or 3 or 4 if that the option picked) may not be supported on your device. Try FAT32 on the second partition"
basically, every option I click I have no luck. I've seen other posts with it working on other Optimus V's. The only thing I could think of is the ROM? Im not too familiar with Rooting, etc. but I got it done. The ROM i'm using is the one given on this site from member: sublimewulf in there post with the HOW TO root optimus V. The ROM is "Stock Rom Rooted and De Odexed minus Bloat" (filename: "Stock Rooted and Optimized.zip") I guess like the filename says, its a stock ROM?
Any help, including a re-walkthrough, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
AND FOREVER XDA!!!
why dont you try partitioning the card through recovery options?
Hello everydody, I am experiencing some difficulties with my Samsung, model GT-I9003-phone which "dropped off a lorry" somewhere next to my relatives somewhere in Asia. When I goth the device, it was in a non-working condition, except a boot-loop and the download-mode. Back then, I had the package of the phone where the exact version ( I don't know if this is what is called "Baseband" or at least is called baseband at my wife's GT-I5003) was specified. So, back then, I was able to find the exact ROM for the device. Unfortunately, the box with the version number now is - somewhere.
After flashing a stock-rom, I managed to enter recovery-mode where I read something about the internal memory being corrupt. As far as I can recall, I then mounted the external SD-Card and somehow managed to reboot the system back to almost normal operation. Even reboots appeared to work normal, besides the fact I had no memory access, neither to internal nor to external sd. In addition, GPS malfunctioned, too.
Unfortunately, even this state didn't last for long time. After several weeks of now-and-then-use, the system just broke down again into a boot-loop. After some time of flashing a variety of stock roms, I managed to flash clockworkmod recovery which works perfectly well. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to root the phone before it "collapsed" again. Besides the possibility, I'd guess this could be a resaon for CWM being unable to flash a custom rom? Otherwise, I'd just test my way through the varieties of versions .
Basically, I do have two questions: 1. is there a possibility to find out if internal memory has failed - and if yes: How?
2. Is it possible to install any version of CM on that phone in the condition it is in?
Thanks a lot in advance for any answers
Hello everybody, I finally found the box . It reads GT-I9003MKDTHL. Is my assumption right that there are no such things as basebands in the GT-I9003 any more and I should be able to flash pretty much any firmware? Furthermore, today I tried to format what is specified as "sd-card ext" in CWM fir GT-I9003 and it gives me an error-message. When I flash "sd-card", my external sd-card gets formatted. So, I'd presume the internal sd is just fried. I read about a workaround for GT-I 9000, where someone installed Androd on a partitioned external SD. Is there somebody who knows someboy having heard about somthing similar working with the GT-I9903?
One step forward...
Hello everybody, I finally managed to get some light into my issues as I once again figured out how to get a software installed and running . It's this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2329200
Thanks a lot to the guy who just posted it somewhere where id could do good...
By the way, I figured out that this software actually includes the Baseband.
As in this version, the original recovery system is running and giving me an error message when I start it without external SD-card, I am now quite sure that the internal memory has just failed as this error message was specified in another posting of someone who had a similar issue with a GT-I9000.
The biiiig "Outch" is, that I am unable to install any CWM Recovery System with that Baseband..This results in me not being able to upgrade the software to ICS, where - as far as I read some troubleshoot-information - will enable me to mount an additional partition on my SD-Card as Data-Partition which isn't possible yet (i.e.: I can't access my SD for storing data or whatever - it's just specified as "not there").
I tried to install the XXKPE-Baseband to be able to go for KPQ which would enable me to install CWM Recovery. I also installed Bagarias CWM-normalboot-image via Heimdall - but I was unable both to boot the OS and to find any trace of a zip-file on the SD-card.
Edit: I managed to install the right CWM - it's mentioned in the post where I've got the firmware from... now, I only have to figure out how to deal with the fact that "officially" there is no SD-card inserted - or, better, that this SD-card is now flagged as "internal SD" - and how that machine can find the zip-file on it
Thanks for every bit of help with that issue
Try Aroma File Manager with Terminal
For SDCard issue you could probably switch them in vold.fstab in /system/etc
Good Luck !!!
