Hello. My last Desire got destroyed. And now I have a new Desire. I inserted my sd memory card into the new phone, but I don't get the question if I want to restore backup.
Have I lost everything or can I extract contacts, messages etc from the sdcard manually?

Hi guys, I haved flash CWM to the external SD card using NV Flasher the external version and flash a ROM through the external version.
What shoul happen if the external sd card fails? Do I just take sd card out and the original firmware runs by the internal or what?
BTW, thanks in advance
I don't believe you flashed to the external, but you flashed the version that supports external cards. if your external craps out, then any backups are gone. It is wise to double up on your backups.. one on your card, and another on a service like Dropbox.. a free 2gb backup service: http://db.tt/ooY4qYA
Basically, connect your usb.. find the clockwork folder and your backup is in there. Drag/drop into your dropbox folder on your desktop.. good to go. Or you can get dropbox for the android and do it from your phone.. whatever flips your bippy.
Yes, external sd ext 4 support, thanks. So to restore the system to be full functional again can be 1) flash the CWM for the internal sd, put the backup inside and flash it. 2) buy another card flash the CWM external version put the backup inside and flash.
My apologies for my english, thanks.

Hmm, with the difference in english, I can't tell if you completely understand it correctly or if you are mistaken, haha.
First and foremost after you have flashed CWM... You shut off your phone. Then hold down volume down + power.. until the green android logo loads, then let go. Then you will be in CWM. While in there, go through the menus and do a backup first and foremost. It will place the backup on your external card.
Once you do the backup, it will be on your external card. Take a copy of it off of your external card and drop it into dropbox, put it on your computer, etc. Basically.. make a backup of the backup.
Then, if your external craps out... then you can either get a new one and put the backup back on the external card.. Or, you can reflash CWM for internal support... and move the backup from your dropbox, your computer, etc. onto the internal. Then you can restore it.
Edit: after re-reading what you said, i'm pretty sure you understand it correctly. As long as you have your backup...and you have duplicated the backup somewhere else.. Then you will be 100% ok. Well, 99%.
Everything is clear to me now, thanks.
hi i just got my sensation yesterday and im thinking of upgrading my micro sd card to 16 or 32gb ... question is if i changed the card, what happens to the installed apps on my previous card? do i need to install the apps again? is there a way to port the installed apps to the new card?
anyone? ..thanks in advance for your help
Kumusta Pare! Just copy everything from your old sd card to your computer then transfer it to your new sd card.

thanks for the reply! so i would assume if everything is copied from the old sd card...there would be no problems putting in the new one so long as the files/folders remain the same. thanks.
That is correct! I think.
I really doubt that!!!
Your data should be fine (pics, music etc)
but if you have installed apps on your SD, I would recommend re-installing them on the new SD
So the step would be..
1- Copy all data from old sd to pc
2- put the new sd in and copy the data to the new sd from pc
3- Re-install apps.
usually, just copying the whole SD card to the new one is enough, as said above, that's what I did from a 16Go to a 32go, that's what I did from 08 to 16 on my former phone.
Maybe one or two apps will require reinstalling (I doubt, all of my downloaded apps were working when I went from 16 to 32Go with my Sensation) but you won't lose any data.
Thanks for the replies!

I just recently rooted my Inspire 4g and have been trying out some different roms. My question is what do I need to keep on my SD card? There is a lot of stuff on it and it is almost full.

first of all do not keep music files and videos they are useless if you need free space. In addition to this make sure that you backup all of your apps and do a nandroid backup if something goes wrong.Keep those files in your hard disk and place them back to your sd card when you re done flashing
I believe that you can just save everything you need to your computer, format the SD, then put your important stuff back in. Then make a recovery backup. All the application files that are stored in the SD card should be remade afterwards.
Quick question here. If I do a restore, will I lose newly taken pictures? It will touch the SD card... but only a few folders? Or does it leave the SD card alone?
SD card untouched. Some things (app sys info stuff) may be freshly written on first boot, but nothing deleted that's user content or new since restore like pictures. App info for apps not present in backup will even remain on SD card after restore.

No, Nandroid backs up only what is in the phone's internal storage.
The photos will be fine.
I am on Slip CM9 using sd2ext+ on a 2gb memory card with a 512mb ext partition.
I just got an 8gb kingston card, gonna make a 1gb ext partition on it. Need to know how I can transfer all Apps and data from one card to the other? I DONT HAVE A CARD READER!!! And the backups made via recovery is for some reason not backing up ext, can't I somehow backup whole ROM and ext stuff, then insert 8gb card make the new partition and restore everything? Another option is titanium backup obviously.
Anyway, just give me different options? How to transfer Apps and data from ext, keeping in mind that I dont have a card reader.
Easyest way is Titanium, Flash new rom, then transfer titanium's backup folder and you'll be fine. Another way is some kind of driver for windows which allow's you to read and write ext file systems and just copy paste, but with this I'm pretty sure that most of the app's won't work.

Oh thanks, On Sony Ericsson x10 mp, when I made nandroid backup via cwm, it automatically backed up ext folder as well, I was hoping that might be possible here as well with some recovery. Anyhow, titanium it is then, it just takes a hell lot of time backing up and then restoring.
....
instead of restoring the whole backup u can also restore just apps(u have tis option in recovery).....dat'll do the same...but migt save u a couple of minutes....
