As I've eben working on my own theme, I've asked a lot of questions , and (obviously) learned a ton along the way. I've been keeping a log of a lot of it, but, I was wondering if you would all be interested in an "end-all, be-all" guide to theming from scratch? With things like important file locations, tutorials on .9 pngs, decompiling and editing xml, etc. etc.? Maybe I'd even PDF it and have screenshots and everything.
Just something I've thought of, but, it's REALLY not worth it if people aren't interested, bc it'd be time-consuming.
I would definitely be interested. I have been looking for something for awhile now. I have found bits and pieces haven't been able to put it all together and figure it out. I have an app I have been trying to theme to match the clock I am using and cannot get it right. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

I'd love to see this too. I was spoiled with theming for the Palm Pre & would love to get into theming for Android now.
I am always open to answering questions about theming. If I can anyway.
Personally, I learned a lot of my android business from SDX-Developers. There a bunch of us brainstormed and basically relearned android. We pulled a lot of info from XDA yes. And for that I am greatful. However, since so much had to be relearned, a lot of info is documented in the forum. And most devs are still active so getting a response to a question, or at least someone to bounce ideas off of, is pretty easy. Android across the board is very similar no matter what device.
I would first recommend google search being that there are a ton more forums beyond xda with information. SDX is where I usually go for more technical questions or discussion, but then again it is where all the Moment users went when XDA shunned us.
Documentation is key if you want to remain open source so the mods can be used or altered for future use.

yeah, would defiantly appreciate something likes this. I spend so much time with 360's i hardly have time to mess with my phone and this would make it a much easier task.

Alrighty then, here we go. Infinite Cha0s X now up and running. I have decided to do the Market as an add-on due to various compatibility issues some testers have had. I managed to flash in succession: Market versions 2.2.7, 2.2.11, and 2.3.6 without need to freeze the MarketUpdater, or wiping ANYTHING. Not a single force close. However, even trying to flash a themed version of the same one included in the rom (2.2.11) failed for some of my other testers, sometimes not even showing up in the app drawer at all. Haha! Thanks for the kind words, and I was thinking the SAME thing, and was almost thinking of posting it before I noticed you wrote. I know the Motorola stuff isn't as big over here, but was hoping for SOMEONE to notice this. But I think if you could sharpen up the images a little bit to make it look a lot more pro and maybe more minimalist this could be a great theme!

Hey man, thanks for props and constructive criticism. Unfortunately I know of no way to make images sharper, as most of the images are found online, and I don't know any repository of hi-res icons to pick and choose from. Also, my theme came out well before Bruised Steel, just not for the Dx, as I had a Droid 1 previously, but I'm glad you like mine better. I dunno anything about being super professional, as I have no schooling or training in image manipulation, so I had to go with being as thorough as possible. I'm just someone with too much free time on their hands. LoL Anyway, have a good one.

Beyond the Messaging icon and the little + symbol in the dialer picture, I'm not sure what you mean about the images not being sharp? I don't see anything else that isn't at least standard quality icons. Please elaborate.
Maybe they are judging the low res sscreen shots without actually installing the theme....i installed it just to try it and it liked beautiful...but the version I used was one I ported with Wugs...so the 3g icon didnt port directly over to GB that I'm using..... But loved it and planning on doing a re port once Wug updates his porter

Just checked yours out and, you're right, its easy to have "sharp" and "professional" images when you just recolor existing images. Man this forum is full of douche bags!!

thanks for not even having the common courtesy to bash my Bruised Steel theme on its on thread. you should remember that most themers do this for themselves and don't have to share with you. if you don't like it.... Don't use it. you Sir are the real douchebag.
To creator of infinite chaos... Ran your theme for a couple days. didn't notice any quality issues with images. looks great keep up the good work.

Big whoop if its hue changes, (his other 2 look pretty clean) and if he know that is so much of a PITA, why did he start bashing him for just stating his opinion.

I have threads, just haven't posted them here, thank you very much! I have never, and will never "bash" another's theme. But, if you're gonna talk **** about someone else's themed images not being "sharp" enough when all you do is change the hue on yours, you SHOULD be called out, IMO! I am "up and coming" and have only been theming for a couple of months now but, I'm just on the other forums most of the time. XDA isn't the ONLY forum, yeah?

Just a request..You and some developers should now focus and work towards bringing back GTX. It was and is one of the best thing for HD2....
possible you will be surprised, but the whole team (20) members around CHT and Laurentius26 new Platinum Rom version 2.4 will be have GTX, shortly. And some time after a really amazing GTX advanced theme...and then...and then...ops now it is leaked out.... pssssst

There is a really big team formed the last few weeks. Think of CHT, Laurentius26 roms (the cool once), really good skinners and a lot of other and old xda people in the background. But it needs a litte bit time , because the roms must be ready, 25 tabs must be tested (a new thread comes up for that), and then the other things
Its always good to know that something is being cooked....and when you know its GTX than who cares about time....
but after seeing the screenshot you know its kinda hard to wait.....

I was hoping this theme wouldn't die. It's just too beautiful. If this does come to fruition, I will be so happy. GTX is just so pure from a design standpoint. Elcondor's reasons for not completing the theme I thought were to a certain degree true - why dev for a dying OS? But I was always hoping someone would take it up.

(4) Rooting hurts only when your ill-informed and are chastised with an Iron Fist. (3) Rooting is Simple - Download the Ace Hack Kit then search for two hours for the 'Effen' manual which you didn't realize was included in the effen Hack Kit, start over again, and utilizing this most elusive of manuals, do it right. (I really did this BTW) I was told by a scary dude with Fists of Iron that 'The right way is never easy, the easy way is never right.' (If this fails - DO NOT SEARCH - your situation is unique and probably hasn't been answered. Wait for the lady with the diapers, she will wipe your ass for you.) (2) No YOU don't have to root it. Here at XDA - we do everything for you! (1) Install this ROM only after being Iron Fisted, Freshly Changed and wiped - from there ROM Manager, Clockwork Mod or 4ext recovery does the rest.
Please do not read the Roms OP or ORIGINAL POST. There will be no information that will be worth your while there. It's usually just filled with each roms characteristics, specifics, and essentials, tips, tricks, and Do's & Donts, as well as other useless information.

Lol, I love it man, keeps things light - hoping a noob or two or ten may be enticed to give it a shot if its laid back and relaxed. Hell maybe a veteran will find it appealing. Anywho - No worries on this end - I'm no Mod....... Yet.
At least NoSensi isn't sitting with a fat goose egg. I would have cried finally getting a chance to.support a Rom in a big way and No Post were made.... An OP Support thread too? (Thanks again Victoryo, and again....) It's right perfect for now. Next step - ShroomySense, or hopefully NoSensi4G for Inspires utilizing our OTA radio and basebuild.... Victoryo was working on one but there were a few glitches and he is DesireHD. Maybe he will just turn it over to me and he can keep the credit. Lol... Yes - ShroomySense. It might just be a grand aspiration, but the only ROM that is available themed already is Honeysense and that is based off of Stonerk's work. And with Stoners work being so popular - its unique sure, but not exclusive. Now that the OTA is out for Inspire I been dying to do this, or get a start anyways. But ShroomySense would have a very psychedelic vibe. Wolf Imade me a Animated mushroom boot animation that's pretty beastly. That was where the brainchild began forming. Then I thought couldn't a battery meter be a mushroom? And one thing I have Not seen at all is any sort of tye-dye accents or button Mods or, is it possible, Overscroll glow!? What I love about HoneyHD theme is the inverted blue on black - but any colors would look good on black, especially tyedye if it would be possible.
So anyhow, I am getting a laptop that I am hoping isnt too old to run everything I will need to do all this, and actually it should be here any moment. As far as NoSensi goes - my phone loves it. I have actually only flashed once in about a month, that was to give Pirates rumrunner a go. NoSensi has been rock solid since day one. I wouldn't have opened the OP if it was constantly being barraged - and Since V doesn't have an Inspire I'm more than happy to lend a hand. I learn so much helping other people out that its more of a privilege than anything...

dude a rom like that would be epic. I'd be all over it. love everything about it, even though my psychedelic days are behind me. I guess I'm still a stoner at heart though. tye-dye overscroll glow is a brilliant idea not sure how easily that could be implemented though. I cant help but think the buttons would be easier, but who knows I'm just starting to play around with themeing so I could be way off base. anyway great idea good luck with it
edit: by the way if you get a laptop that just aint quite up to snuff, slap ubuntu on it. that runs well on just about anything

Hey I didn't break any themes! Oh - Baroque as in Rennaissance-ish Italy... Yeah, that might work. I could have Bach and Chopin ringtones, and Gaudy exhuberant stylings wrapped in classic art from that Era!

For the Samsung Continuum, we are in desperate need of people who are good with designing and changing graphics and icons... Trailblazer has done most of the hard work in accessing/customizing the ticker, however neither he, nor I, have the graphic ability to make good looking graphics and/or icons... For those with Continuums, if you are interested in contributing, and gaining your 15 minutes of fame (okay, maybe not ), either send me a PM, or reply to this thread. We will ALWAYS give credit where credit is due!
On the other hand, if you want lame or none-existent icons/graphics, I can always call up Kolourpaint and throw something ugly together. But, trust me, you don't want to see that. Remember the old 8 bit Atari graphics? See, I thought so...

Hey Shadow, are there particular icons that you're looking for? I'd like to give it a shot, however there are probably many who are far more accomplished digitally. If you could give me an idea I'd be willing to post a couple here and you all can let me know how crummy they are ;-)

Specifically, I have a couple ideas xD
For the first one, maybe a blue ring that would go around the WeatherBug Weather image on the ticker... As in, when you click the weather icon, it would clearly show that you areeee actually clicking it for once
Second idea, maybe a few small, colored dots that could be placed on the main ticker display... These Dots, which i could have say, for example, a small "M" for messaging, would launch Messaging when clicked... Preferably green, orange, and purple or whatever, then another blue one that i could set as the image when clicked....
Third, maybe a nice button to go on the main page that changes when clicked (just make two images) and maybe has "Continuum" or something catchy

well i used to work for a graphics design firm and clothing company a few years back. this weekend i could hook up my good old media pc and get it updated with the apps (adobe suite/paint) i could cook up a few things and will get back to a thread (ill post in this one for starts) feel free to pm me about it and throw ideas. havent been around lately (hands full taking my son cross state back to his mommas) but new ec07 is going pretty good for me. yall have been great to me.

Dude, it would be miles better than my stick figures... Trust me. I don't have an artistic bone in my body.. I would do better turning my 7 year old daughter loose on creating the icons... She didn't get the artistic gene from me...

Hey, since Verizon and Samsung view us as red-headed-step-children (no offense meant to any red-heads out there ), it is up to use in the trenches with this orphaned phone to fix the problems with it.

Did the mouse eat the keyboard? Did the cat eat the mouse? (Okay, enough!)
AFAIK, the icons that are used within Android are PNG's not GIF's. I know you can't animate a PNG, so I think it may be a sequence. Trailblazer would be in a better position to answer that item.
