[Q] tytn 4500 - General Questions and Answers

Hi I am new to xda but I have a question that I am sure may have been answered years ago, however I cannot find the answer myself. I have been given a windows mobile pda an old one but its great. Its a HTC TyTN 4500. I have managed to configure it to my 3 UK payg acct however I cannot get it to connect to my wifi home networK through a MSI RG54SE II which I have a pc and laptop connected.... Can anybody help as I have spent days trying. I have also lost the instructions which I found online on how to connect to 3 network internet so I would really not want to do anything derogatory to those settings..
many thanks
Laurence

UK Three Network

Hey everybody, i have a Hermes incase that matters. Im thinking about changing network to Three but i cant find any UK settings for internet or planet 3. Are these about? or are there any cabs that can get that all working?
Thanks a million
Don't go with Three.
You will never experience HSDPA on your Hermes as it wasn't the phone they supplied you with.
I wondered for ages why my Internet connectivity was so poor, then I stuck a mates T-Mobile SIM card in my TyTn.....bingo - over 1Mb/s.
I struggle to get 1/10 of that.
When my contract expires....goodbye, 3.
HTH.
And...T-Mobile probably have the best data tarrifs in the UK.

Can a Treo 750 be used on 3?

Hi,
I would like to use a treo 750 on 3 (in the uk), as they have some great data tarrifs.
Would this work, and can anyone tell me where to get the settings, o if these settings will work? http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?t=67428
Cheers, all help appriciated.
Pau.
i use the palm treo on three and it works fine not got the hang of using planet three but ll setting worked from inserting my sim card, realy nice phone and very stable for me, but im looking to use a cooked rom but cant decide which is best for three network and would love to be able to backup my phones rom so i can just replace the rom i i dont like the new one
but all in all m8 this phone works well on 3 Uk
Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I am using a Treo 750 with a 3 PAYG sim, and have added the mobile broadband addon, and I am well impressed!!! Why 3 dont sell this as a package is beyond me.
Still getting used to pocket PC, but likingit so far.

Me too!!!!!!!
Yes their pay & go tariffs are great! Specially the internet monthly add on for only a fiver and your credits doesn't expire until you have used it all. My only gripe on the treo 750 is it doesn't automatically dissconnect the data connection after pocket outlook pulls my emails.

xda Orbit 2, will it work on 3 UK Network (PAYG)

I am wanting to run one of these with a PAYG sim on 3UK Network, to benefit from the faster HSDPA broadband access via the phone and via a USB lead to a laptop (using the Orbit 2 as a modem). Is this likely to work OK? Anyone already doing this right now?
Also will the Orbit 2 work well with Skype, as my orbit 1 is poor and the audio breaks up (even when connected to 4mbit wifi connection). I hope the Orbit 2 has cured this problem.
I would appreciate comments on the above. Thanks a lot. Tony
I just came back from holiday in UK. My German Orbit2 used for roaming either O2 UK Network or TMobile and 3G worked fine on both networks. Is it that, what you were asking for?
About Skype I don't know anything, sorry.
Thanks for the reply, but no not exactly what I am looking for. I want to use the Orbit 2 on 3UK, which is another network (unless 3UK uses someone elses network). The 3UK Network is a new network provider in the UK.....
I basically want to know if the Orbit2 will work on 3UK with a PAYG sim (NOT ON A CONTRACT) for HSDPA internet access and to use as a normal phone.
I currently have an Orbit 1 on Orange PAYG, but want to use HSDPA (faster internet access with the Orbit 2), I also want to be able to use Skype as well using HSDPA.
Thanks anyway for the reply.
If you don't get help here, you should call the provider and ask.
Because I wanted to use my Orbit2 with a prepaid SIM of O2 UK with mobile internet. And they said, I can only use it for making calls and texts, not for internet. (They weren't able to provide internet settings for the device if not in a contract.) So I was able to use a prepaid SIM but only for calls and texts.
Anyway, good luck.
3 uk network
I think I understand what you're asking.
3 will not assist you because the Orbit 2 is not an 'approved' phone for 3's network.
However, there is a cab file that permits you to spoof 3's network that you are using a Nokia N95 which is an approved phone.
I know it works because we did this for a work colleague that was sick of his Nokia and went and bought a touch cruise and we installed the necessary file.
He's generally happy with the result but does report the occasional lag on 3's network.
If you want to know more and find a link to the file I suggest you read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2229186
Best of luck and let us know how you get on.
Lom
Thanks a lot!!!!
It looks like you have sorted my problems... I will be getting the Orbit 2 in a couple of days and I will let you know how I get on. Thanks once again Lom.
ps. Any idea what the URL is for planet3 on the mobile???
Regards Tony
planet 3
Tony,
I'm not a 3 customer, but the thread I suggested you read claims this is the address for planet 3:

[Q] HTC One S, hotspot connected but no internet

Hi,
Firstly I have read similar threads for other mobiles, most notably the One X but the solutions there don't translate to my One S. i.e. the menu structures explained and headings given are not a match to mine with no obvious, to me, , alternatives.
There was also a mention of wifi tethering with a link but no description. I assume this is DL'd directly to the phone and then...?
Mine is currently running Android 4.1.1 provided by Vodafone Spain (my country), which is where the problem started. (i.e. all was well before)
The mobile shows the laptop (Dell running WinXPpro) is connected and the laptop also says it's connected to the HTC HotSpot.
However, no internet is availaible. The One S and the Dell work perfectly on other wifi networks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
As a footnote, I will soon be changing to Jazztel Spain (provided via Orange Spain network), so if a solution is known for that system as well/instead I can wait/resort when the changeover happens.
TIA
T-Mobile is pretty picky about Hotspot. If you have less than 5GB 4G Unlimited, it doesn't work.
Or else, there's really somethin' wrong.

Try using your laptop when the phones screen is on. On some version of the software wifi wasn't working when the screen was off.
Many thanks for the replies folks.
In the end the answer to my problem was extremely simple.
All I had to do was change the hotspot name and password on the HTC and just follow suit on the PCs to connect. I guess, in hindsight, I really should have tried that!
Apparently (according to Vodafone tech. dept in Spain) the upgrade has be known corrupt the above data.
Easy when you know how, as always.
