I've finally moved onto the HTC Desire from the Touch Diamond.
I imported all my smses using Sprite Migrate, but one problem is that it has decided to put the messages from the "Sent" folder and the "Inbox" from WM onto one screen in Android.
I've also merged my contacts, but the smses are still separated into two parts for every contact.
Does anyone know a way of merging two (or multiple) sms threads into one?
Alternatively, I can redo the whole process and import my smses using SMS Backup Restore. But does anyone know if that will give me the same problem?
I tried SMS Backup Restore, and it's giving me the same results.
So does anyone know how to merge multiple threads into one?
have you found the solution ?

Hi
I have an xda 2.
I recently carried out a hard reset to clean up my xda 2.
Unfortunately when I tried restoring my back up (from active sync) there appears 2 be a problem with old sms messages.
I had created a number of sub-folders where I had moved my old messages.
I can see the old sms messages in the folder but I can not open, read or forward them. There are no problems with new sms messages.
Has anyone come acrosss this before and can you advise me on how to retrieve these please?
Thanks.
Salim
....No response...does noboby love me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I've had a look through the forums and have foubd similarish problems but nothing seems to help
This is wht I have done so far
1. Downloaded mobile vault to interrogate my back up - but this has proved futile as when I go to where I believe the sms messages are the ones I want are blank (even though I can see them in the sms folder but not expand them).
2. I downloaded Jeye Mobile companion and Jeyo Outlook extender
JMC did not help much
Jeyo Outlook Extender will let me read the SMS messages that are in my inbox (but not accessible via the XDA II). However, any stored in the other folders I have set up are not accessible (I don't seem to be able to see the folders I have set up on the XDA II).
3. I have performed more hard resets - and backups any sms in the back up (even in the inbox) suffer the same fate of not being readable (But I have now backed up mu more recent ones elsewhere).
Well I'm exhausting my options now.
Any help would be more than welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I have searched the forums but haven't had much luck - if anyone knows of a similar post that has had a reply then could they point me to it).
Any news
Has anyone ever found a way round this?
Similar problem - looking for a solution also.
I had to restore after my SPV M2000 hard reset itself and I cannot view Old or NEW sms messages (apart from when the message bubble is shown as a new message arrives). My messaging inbox, drafts, outbox and deleted items all show the number of messages in them, but I cannot view or access any of them.
Is there any way these messages can be accessed or deleted?
Help!!
Any solution yet
Hi... has anyone figured a way around this yet?
I've spoken to someone at o2 and they said it had something to do with the way the inbox is recognised/linked.
After a hard reset the system is given a new id...but the old messages are linked to an older id....
There must be someway around this.
If I can see the message headers surely there must eb a way of reading the messages!!!!!
HELP PLEASE
A work around if you're stuck
I use Sprite backup which caused this problem after a restore. After raising it with their support team they supplied me with the attached file which allows SMS messages to be received and read.
BE AWARE that all messages on the device will be deleted, but new messages received will work. This will erase SMS, MMS & any emails that are on the device, so use with caution. Make sure you have a full backup!!!
Hello all!
I've been having a real nightmare moving my SMS messages from my Sony Ericsson P990 (running UIQ 3) to my beloved HTC Trinity.
I knew it will be a problem, but since I do a lot with computers I wanted to try it.
My first try was to export SMS messages on my P990i to a .cvs file. All went ok, I got the file and so far I made a quick script to convert it to xml file and later import it in my Trinity via SMS backup tool i've found. When trying to import all dates were messed up, even tho i saw them correct in the file, but the SMSes were actually imported!
Then, I changed a few things and now it doesn't accept my XML files - there must be dome special characters inside but it's just too hard to find them with 400 messages inside.
The next idea I came up with about an hour ago was to copy all sms messages to my SIM and then copy them back on my Trinity. So far, I discovered that my SIM card holds a maximum of only 18 SMS messages Even tho, I didn't have any of the SMS SIM->Phone software on my HTC.
I really want to keep these messages and am struggling a few days
Anyone has any ideas what else could I try?
Hi there,
I updated my htc magic (android) to the new version of cm. So for this I restored a backup of my SMS. But I forgot to check off the button in the stock sms app to not delete old messaged (if there are more than 200 sms in a thred, they get deleted). So many many old messages got deleted.
But as I said, I got a backup of those old sms. and now there are already many new, which I dont want to lose.
So is there any possibility to merge those files, so that I'll have all my messages again?
Hope you understand my problem and you can help me =)
So far.
I'm interested in backing up my SMS text messages...I have thousands and after a while it get's sluggish, and I have some very important messages that I need to hold on to.
I have MyBackup Pro which works nice, but you can only restore one backup...as far as I konw...and it removes all SMS messages before it restores. So I have like 10 backups all from different dates and I can only restore one set.
Is there a program that backs up SMS/MMS messages as good as MyBackup Pro to the Local SD card, but will allow you to either append new message backups to a backup already created or will let you combine and restore multiple backups? Thanks.

Oh my bad...I just saw Apps and figured it went here...Mods, feel free to move please.
Does HTC Sync have options other than just syncing the contacts with outlook? What files would contain the SMS/MMS texts? How would this work to append messages say if I deleted all the messages after a backup and then wanted to add additional messages in a backup and then restore all??? Thanks.

No one goes to the Q/A board , I think app questions/suggestions are fine here. As for the OP's question, I'm using SMS backup+, it backups sms and mms to your gmail account as well as your contacts and call logs should you require it.

BackupPro does a great job as well. I even set it up to automatically backup everything at 2am.

Thanks, I've used this before....is there a way to access your SMS messages via gmail or the internet? I kinda leaned away from it because it took forever to backup...rather restore 10,000 SMS messages via online. Also, there's some information in my SMS messages that are sensative.
I've used MyBackupPro but it over-writes messages when you do a restore.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I hope I can find something that works well.

I second SMS Backup+ it saves you ur gmail and can restore.
I use this then use outlook to move texts to a new folder so when i do a restore it only restores a few messages. it is kinda slow but it works. backed up my wifes evo that had 42,000+ texts and mms. took a long time but worked.

Hey everyone,
I've wondering this for a long time and couldn't find a solution to my problem. I have samsung i780 and have upgraded it to windows mobile 6.1. It comes with the SMS displayed as a chat conversation, which is neat. I want to backup all these conversations, as they are.
When I try most SMS backup software,(like iMobile SMS backup or Godswmobile SMS transfer) they backup all the messages, but they don't save it in a conversation way. They split them into sent or received smses, and its really hard to make sense of things and its tiresome.
Is there any software that can save the entire conversation as they are displayed in wm6.1? (i.e sent-received-sent-received etc)
Or at least someone can think of in this way:
In the conversation window, I can select all, and then copy the messages to Microsoft word or Note. The problem is, it shows very few messages at a time(as the screen is small, so only like 7 or 8 are displayed at a time), and I have to keep clicking on 'Older' to go to the very first sms, which is like a 1000 click before. And its tiresome to copy/paste it in the word, and if one small error, you are pushed back to the very recent sms chat.
Cant I just access the main html/xml file on the mobile where all of this is stored? Anyone knows how to retrieve the file where all your SMS chat/conversation is saved?
Thanks
Okay, I found the software.
Jeyo Software is the one. God, I wish I had known such a software existed before. Its just beautiful.
One more thing, any idea how to restore contacts that were saved as .xml?
Thankx
