Backing up SMS Messages - Append - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

I'm interested in backing up my SMS text messages...I have thousands and after a while it get's sluggish, and I have some very important messages that I need to hold on to.
I have MyBackup Pro which works nice, but you can only restore one backup...as far as I konw...and it removes all SMS messages before it restores. So I have like 10 backups all from different dates and I can only restore one set.
Is there a program that backs up SMS/MMS messages as good as MyBackup Pro to the Local SD card, but will allow you to either append new message backups to a backup already created or will let you combine and restore multiple backups? Thanks.

Oh my bad...I just saw Apps and figured it went here...Mods, feel free to move please.
Does HTC Sync have options other than just syncing the contacts with outlook? What files would contain the SMS/MMS texts? How would this work to append messages say if I deleted all the messages after a backup and then wanted to add additional messages in a backup and then restore all??? Thanks.

No one goes to the Q/A board , I think app questions/suggestions are fine here. As for the OP's question, I'm using SMS backup+, it backups sms and mms to your gmail account as well as your contacts and call logs should you require it.

BackupPro does a great job as well. I even set it up to automatically backup everything at 2am.

Thanks, I've used this before....is there a way to access your SMS messages via gmail or the internet? I kinda leaned away from it because it took forever to backup...rather restore 10,000 SMS messages via online. Also, there's some information in my SMS messages that are sensative.
I've used MyBackupPro but it over-writes messages when you do a restore.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I hope I can find something that works well.

I second SMS Backup+ it saves you ur gmail and can restore.
I use this then use outlook to move texts to a new folder so when i do a restore it only restores a few messages. it is kinda slow but it works. backed up my wifes evo that had 42,000+ texts and mms. took a long time but worked.

can't read old sms messages after restoring from backup

Hi
I have an xda 2.
I recently carried out a hard reset to clean up my xda 2.
Unfortunately when I tried restoring my back up (from active sync) there appears 2 be a problem with old sms messages.
I had created a number of sub-folders where I had moved my old messages.
I can see the old sms messages in the folder but I can not open, read or forward them. There are no problems with new sms messages.
Has anyone come acrosss this before and can you advise me on how to retrieve these please?
Thanks.
Salim
....No response...does noboby love me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I've had a look through the forums and have foubd similarish problems but nothing seems to help
This is wht I have done so far
1. Downloaded mobile vault to interrogate my back up - but this has proved futile as when I go to where I believe the sms messages are the ones I want are blank (even though I can see them in the sms folder but not expand them).
2. I downloaded Jeye Mobile companion and Jeyo Outlook extender
JMC did not help much
Jeyo Outlook Extender will let me read the SMS messages that are in my inbox (but not accessible via the XDA II). However, any stored in the other folders I have set up are not accessible (I don't seem to be able to see the folders I have set up on the XDA II).
3. I have performed more hard resets - and backups any sms in the back up (even in the inbox) suffer the same fate of not being readable (But I have now backed up mu more recent ones elsewhere).
Well I'm exhausting my options now.
Any help would be more than welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I have searched the forums but haven't had much luck - if anyone knows of a similar post that has had a reply then could they point me to it).
Any news
Has anyone ever found a way round this?
Similar problem - looking for a solution also.
I had to restore after my SPV M2000 hard reset itself and I cannot view Old or NEW sms messages (apart from when the message bubble is shown as a new message arrives). My messaging inbox, drafts, outbox and deleted items all show the number of messages in them, but I cannot view or access any of them.
Is there any way these messages can be accessed or deleted?
Help!!
Any solution yet
Hi... has anyone figured a way around this yet?
I've spoken to someone at o2 and they said it had something to do with the way the inbox is recognised/linked.
After a hard reset the system is given a new id...but the old messages are linked to an older id....
There must be someway around this.
If I can see the message headers surely there must eb a way of reading the messages!!!!!
HELP PLEASE
A work around if you're stuck
I use Sprite backup which caused this problem after a restore. After raising it with their support team they supplied me with the attached file which allows SMS messages to be received and read.
BE AWARE that all messages on the device will be deleted, but new messages received will work. This will erase SMS, MMS & any emails that are on the device, so use with caution. Make sure you have a full backup!!!

SMS Backup App which restores only SMS wich are not already on the phone

Hey guys.
Caused by Samsungs GREAT settings to delete SMS in conversations > 200 SMS i have lost 2500 SMS on my GalaxyNote after the first sms restore.
I have a backup of all SMS before the GalaxyNote and would make a backup of today (maybe with another tool which can handle sms which are on my phone twice)
I want to join them together to get all my sms back together.
How can i do this?
First of all: I am currently using this SMS Backup tool:Click
Is there any SMS Backup Tool wich only restores SMS which are NOT on the device? I dont want to have some of my SMS twice on my device.
My Idea was to delete all sms, then i restore the BackupFile from before the GalaxyNote with my SMS Tool right now and then i restore the current backup.
I hope you understand my Situation.
PS: Mixing up both XML BackupFiles is insane because i have 3500+ SMS and they are all numbered consecutively in both files.
Go SMS Pro, has build in backup & restore
and when you restore, it will only restore the missing SMS
on a side note i also use SMS Backup + (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync)
but it will restore everything, causing duplicates
but that's not why i use it, i like that one because it can log calls / times, and SMS to google account and calendar, so it creates a good log of daily use, and tracking, is great for business when you are trying to remember customers calls and when it was done
My Backup is a good app for this

You wont like this, but two considerations:
- The setting remained unchanged, its Google/Android in general, not Samsung
- Its caused by you, by not paying attention, by not being prepared, not by Samsung nor Google.
This post is in no way intended to offend, I just cant stand this spitting around BS because one is enraged bc he fukkered up and blames everyone and everybody except himself. I mean this in a general, not a personal way. But it does touch you slightly, though

Need an app to archive my texts

OK so I have a lot of clients that are constantly texting me. When I get done with the job, I like to delete the text just to keep my messages application nice and clean. Sometimes I will get a client texting me again referring to our previous conversation but I'm lost because I don't have any texts to refer to as I deleted the conversation. Can anybody refer me to an application that will archive the text messages and allow me to remove the conversation but have the conversation come back up if that person texts me again?

I use that and it works great. It just creates a Label under Gmail, and they're all saved there. You can even restore them all back to your phone as SMS if you want to.
I use it as well. I love it. Has anyone ever developed a good app for backing up MMS?

Not sure if you're willing but if you port your number to Google Voice all your text messages are in the cloud and will sync for every device you install GV on.

dont i have to cancel my contract for that
I use SMS Backup+ and it does backup text messages done through hangouts but I cannot restore texts to hangouts from these backups.
I have read that SMS Backup and Restore does work on KitKat and our N5s but there may be a hoop or two you have to jump through.
I need to find a good auto backup and ability to restore my texts, I miss that from my previous Android phones.

Downloaded SMS Backup and restore. Downloaded the back up from my google drive . Restored the messages and a message appeared that i will have to set the default app to SMS Backup and Restore . Did that and then made Hangout the default app. all the restored messages appeared in hangout.
After this you can install any of the SMS apps from the play store like Go SMS Pro , Textra etc etc . Once this is done, Go to the settings of Hangout and uncheck the option of Hangout as the SMS app . All your text messages will now appear in the new SMS app you have downloaded from the play store.

Oh, sorry, I totally forgot that some people are still on contracts. But once your contract is up in the future that would be a viable solution.
Assuming you're on Sprint with that contract you can also integrate your Sprint number with Google Voice which will have the exact reversible effect as permanently porting it.
Besides some backup and restore solutions that some other guys left above there really isn't anything that will sync your text messages.

[APP] Telephony Data Backup

Hello,
We present our new app: Telephony Data Backup...
How many times have you lost a important call log or message?
This app allows you to make backups (manual or automatically) from the calls log and from the database of messages (sms).
As for incoming calls and received messages, if you activate the option, the backup will be performed as soon as the corresponding event occurs.
In contrast, due to the limitations of Android, the backup of outgoing messages is held every few hours, in a background process.
Furthermore, the application will show the call log or messages with a comfortable and intuitive interface and can answer calls or messages received from the application itself.
Of course, you can delete entries or log messages.
The paid version removes the Ads and allows you to create a backup in the sdcard of the app data.
Please, don't forget to contact if you have issues...
How it works
When a call is ended, or a message received, the app starts a background process that performs the backup.
You can enable/disable backup for phone calls or messages separately.
Permissions
Read contacts and read profile: To get the contacts data and map phones and contact names
Read SMS, Receive SMS: To read the messages in order to backup it
Write SMS: To allow users to send SMS messages from the app
Read call log, read phone state: To read the call log when a call ends in order to backup it
Make call: To allow users to start a call from the app
Read/Write external storage: To make backups of the app settings
Receive boot completed: To set timers to do internal tasks
Internet: To display Ads
Billing, get accounts: To manage payment users data

Your app looks promising !
Does it save MMS too ? Does it send data to the cloud for a more useful backup ?
Looks nice, will give it a try, thanks

App data backup sync with Drive is coming in a few hours...
Thanks for this usefull app !
I've seen the cloud sync in your ToDo list => great !
Could you make possible to change the backup folder ? (I like to regroup backup folder in the same one (titanium backup, settings backup...)
MMS are also saved ?
I will try it for sure
how to delete back up data thanks
Very useful app! One stupid question though. Where does the backup save to? If I were to wipe my phone the backup data would be gone unless I physically move it off the phone, right?
So does this app have the ability to restore the backed up call log and sms messages?

The local backup is stored at sdcard.
If you wipe your phone, without clear sdcard data, you are able to recover it.
Also, I have just published a new version (1.2.10) that includes synchronization with Google Drive. If you enable it you can restore the backup from local or from your Drive.

Nope.
Calls log is writeable, this is not a problem, and I have implemented (finally removed for now due to some phones only store
the last 500 calls in the log), but sms database is (since android 19) only writeable by the default sms app.
I'm trying to know if is possible to bypass the sms protection using root commands, but only partial success for now.
Hi Robert @bartito @OP
One more small wonder. My only worry how do you plan to manage Calendar Notifier app and Telephony Back up?
Surely you will be having fun. I will start testing this app as before.

You're right, swipe isn't working fine when you click the switch. I will correct in next release.
Related to the call-block, I need to learn about if it's possible.
Related to the sms-block, isn't possible in Android since sdk-19. I need to learn if this is possible with root permissions, but I think not.

Even Titanium restores the SMS by changing default SMS app to Titanium, restore and then changing it back. Maybe this will work for yout tool too? (For both actions user is asked, so this would need some explanation to the user in before )

basically there are only 2 solutions: update the database using root permissions or become the default sms app for a while.
the 2nd solution is probably the best.
First: thanks for the pro Code. But i do have an issue with this: i followed your instructions, a message "key is valid" pops up, but the advertisements keep alive. I did a reboot and tried twice, no difference. the version i got is 1.1.9, the version shown under Settings say "1.1.9 PRO"
