Anyone know how i can get Android 1.5 ringtones on Android 2.2? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I hope this is the right area to ask, and i apologize if not.
I just went from 1.5 (Magic) to 2.2 (Desire) and man, the first thing i noticed is how crappy the Froyo ringtones are! I really want my regular old 1.5 ringtones, but im not sure where to look.
Is there a 1.5 ringtone dump anywhere? Or can i download them from somewhere?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548432
These appear to be from the Hero rather than the Magic, but would they be what you're after?
Posted from my HD2 via XDA app.

Yea those are the ring tones, thanks!
But android 1.5 (and possible above) was weird, in that the default ringtones could only be selected by choosing default. therefore, the ringtone im looking for isnt in that group

can anyone help?

if you're asking how to get them to work on your phone all you have to do is make a folder called media on your sdcard. In the media folder make another folder called audio and place yet another folder called ringtones and notifications. just place your ringtones and notification sounds in their respective folders.

No that i know how to do.
Im asking for the default ringtones from android 1.5 Apparently, theyre not stored in /system/media. In that directory are all the optional ringtones.
When selecting ringtones, you can choose from the list, or select default. The default ringtone is NOT found on that list and therefore NOT in system/media as far as I know

Anyone know whaat I'm talking about here? Lol

You may want to download the original zipped ROM from HTC.
Looky here:
http://developer.htc.com/adp.html#s3
Download the 'Recovery Image' for Androidâ„¢ 1.5 (make sure the MD5 checksum matches).
Extract and do whatcha want

custom ringtones

i downloaded a ringtone off the internet but i cant set it as my ringtone cant someone tell me where to do it
I'm new to WM so I'll try my best to describe what i've done. You can copy the file to the "My Ringtones" folder on your device and then change the setting in the program>>settings>>phone.
To hijack this thread a bit, but also may be related to a question you might have. How can I use custom SMS tones. I've placed .wave and .mp3 files in both "My Ringtones" and \Windows\Rings folder. But still the only sounds available on the drop down menu are the default ones.

Put the tones directly on your SD card (not in any folder) and it should find them. Worked for me.

No ringtone notification

I recently rooted my G1 and installed the JF1.41 RC33 lite update, and now my notification sound does not play when I receive a text message (but it works for other things, such as gmail).
I am also running the latest version of the Resident Evil Umbrella theme (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=482143&highlight=umbrella) and I didn't test between updating the build and installing the theme, so I'm not sure which it's related to.
I've tried using a default notification tone, as well as one from my SD card using Rings Extended, with no difference. Anyone else have a problem like this?
I think with the lite version there is only one notification or ringtone left in the system thats why you need to create your own ringtones using ringdroid
Yes, there are only three notification tones left on the phone, none of which will actually play when I receive a text message. Same thing with the custom tone I loaded onto my SD card. No matter what I do, I simply do not get a sound when I get a text message.
Hi,
The g1 will read ringtones if the correct folders are on the sd card I think.
Try this:
Make a folder on your sdcard called media
Inside it make audio
Inside audio make alarms, notifications, ringtones and ui.
Then in each of those folders put your ringtones.
oog , mid or mp3.
Reboot your phone now when you go to assign a ringtone the phone will find them.
It works for me.
Post the results.
That did the trick. Thanks!
Hi,
Glad it worked.
An easy to put ringtones into different areas on your phone.
Well, it seems to have stopped working again. Or rather, it now works sporadically. I haven't changed the location, and it does the same thing even if I change it to a default alert, so it has nothing to do with the ringtones themselves. Gah, maybe I should just re-flash...
OK, I think I may have actually just solved it. I checked my processes and the Messaging app was running twice for some reason. I force closed both, re-opened and tested, and BINGO! Sound! =D
Now I just have to figure out why I had two instances of Messaging running in the first place...
If you want the sounds that come with g1 here you go, just put in corresponding folders on sd card.

Great Link! This should be posted in the original G1 files thread if it isnt there already. Good grab.

Sound assignment prob

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and also new to my smart phone. I have an HTC Elf 0300. I'm trying to assign a sound to Notification/ MMS downloaded. I've looked at the existing sounds available and tried to find the folder they're in via ActiveSync to no avail. I've converted the mp3 I want to use to .amr and put it in the My Ringtones and My Voices folders. I can access the amr file if I want to change the ringtone notification but not for the MMS downloaded. I can only assume that one can't use anything other than what came with the phone. If you know different, please advise, many thanks.

Put your tones in the main windows folder, you will see that many of the tones already available to you are in wav/wma format.
Thanx Timmy, that worked, one learns as one goes along eh, lol.

Changing Default Ringtones and Notifications

I have been replacing the ringtones, notifications, system tones in the stock /system/media/audio folder. With HFS and EB, ICS would automatically pick up on the new tones, maybe after one restart, but would ultimately pick them up.
Question is, why doesn't GB pick up on the new sounds in the default folder? All of the files are either .wav or .ogg.
mine always do, don't know what you are doing wrong... I'm about to flash the HFP rom assuming that is what you are talking about??? I'll test it out and see what is going on...

Yea this happened on Weapon G2X also, every ICS I've used has been good to go, and I've been doing the same process; delete /audio from the system folder, then copy/paste the other /audio folder that holds all of the new tones.

I did the exact process you did and mine is playing and using them as no problems with phone calls and texts.

Weird, because like I said I've always had this problem with GB ROMS. Thanks for the help though.
On mine (XBoarders Rom) I just created folders named ringtones and notifications on the _External SD and it found them.
android likes to access ringtones by id, and not a filename. so it leads to strange things happening like this (one time a friend of mine moved all his ringtones to his computer, then back. when he booted up his phone all the ringtones were switched around )
just try wiping cache in CWM after changing them around and see if that does the trick.

What did you do to get the custom ringtone..
I mean I have copied a Nexus S rigntone to the notifications folder and I am able to use it a ringtone, this is the usual way of setting a custom ringtone.. have you done this??
Put ringotones in''ringtones'' folder
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
Copy your custom ringtone mp3 to sdcard/media/audio/ringtones directory. Once the sdcard is scanned for media, the file will appear in your available ringtone list.

I stumbled on this thread/post after searching on the internet. The above solution that you have mentioned did not work for me. I do not have a ringtones folder under sdcard/media/audio directory, just the notifications folder. I copied my ringtones files to this notifications folder and restarted the phone. That did not work. Next I created a ringtone folder under sdcard/media/audio and pasted the tones under this folder.
I restarted the phone again and checked... that also did not work.
Am I missing something here? Please help.

I create my own ringtones in the .ogg format rather than MP3s. Then, I place them in /system/media/audio/ringtones or /system/media/audio/notifications, change permissions to rw-r--r--, change owner and group to 0-root and reboot. It has worked for me every time. I also remove all the existing ringtones and notifications because I never use them, but I don't think that's necessary to make it work.

Personal preference. You like your way, I like mine. It's not all that much work and doesn't really take much time. Also, when my phone is connected to my PC, the ringtones are still usable since they aren't on the SD card.
