How To Change Market Sprint Tab/Button Back to Downloads - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

I just discovered this by casual browsing a few mins ago by reading a post saying this wasn't possible. I said bs and went looking for solution.
I'm sure some of you already know about this from it being mentioned in threads here or there. I wanted to make a dedicated thread for those searching for the answer that much easier. Without further adieu, here it is.
Download an app called Market Enabler from softpedia: http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Internet-Utilities/Misc-Shopping/MarketEnabler-88713.shtml
Install via your preferred method IE Astro, Estrongs, adb install, whatever.
From here, everything should be self-explanatory, but in case it isn't. Open the app; select the "save current settings" button.
Go to "settings list" tab and choose alternative. I picked [us] T-mobile (cause it's the only US option). Don't ask me what happens with the others. I didn't try.
Bam, you're done. No reboot needed. Requires root with 2.1/2.2. I have only used this with CM6.
Enjoy.

i wish you had posted this yesterday, I spent a good couple of hours fixing this, and posting rather long winded howto manually do this on cm6.

Haha, just tried this, works great, very quick, but in case it isn't obvious - it gives you the t-mobile apps in the market, and takes away the sprint ones. That's no biggie if you're on cm6 though, which doesn't have any sprint apps lol
Edit: haha fyi t-mobile social buzz works great on here, it's like friendstream, but has myspace support. And it doesn't have a widget sadly... Make sure to install t-mo social service first.
Sent from my CDMA Hero, sucka!

I'm intrigued. Link?
edit: I found your post. Could your method work for Sprint users by substituting sprint for another carrier? also confused as to the origin of the eri.xml file. googling it i come up with a lot of verizon forums and talk.

in theory it should work for sprint users to. i played around with it a bit, so far i changed it from Sprint to my carrier then to Verizon, and back to my carrier.
the build.prop file tells the market your carrier id, then google adds the market tab for your carrier.
i found out about the eri.xml file in the darchdroid2.8 thread, it changes the name displayed on the lock screen and the status bar.
so i'd say a sprint user could change the build.prop file to another carrier and change the eri.xml to sprint and it would work just fine.

How to retrieve MSL (easier method no CDMA workshop required)

Ok i saw a few people wanting to find their MSL with out CDMA workshop or customer service. I'll show you how. (I guess this doesn't work for some who installed the OTA update. I installed the OTA and am rooted and it worked for me.)
1. Install aLogcat from the market (its awesome and free)
2. From your dial pad dial ##3282# when the EPST menu pops up select view mode
3.Open aLogcat let it run for a sec and let it catch up
4. Press menu then press send and select email
5. Enter your own email address and send it
6. From your computer open the email and hit CTRL and F at the same time it will bring up a search bar
7. In the search bar type in MSL and hit enter
8. You should now be looking at a line like this
I/EpstBroadcastReceiver( 2089): MSLCODE 1:+HTC_RMSL:######
the #s are where your MSL will be
9. You are welcome!!
I heard this doesn't work anymore after the ota. I have tried a similar method using the ame app but no luck. Does emailing the log make a difference cuz i just scanned the log on the phone looking for that msl entry.
Couldn't find it. Followed each step to a T.
I'm on the latest OTA, rooted, BTW.
They fixed it with the first OTA. If you can get back to a pre-ota stock then that works fine.
Otherwise the easiest way is to simply call Sprint and ask.
i never had OTA ( still don't ) and it still doesnt show anywhere...btw

Then you bought our phone with it already updated most likely. Because it works with the base ROM that the Evo was released with. It's how I got mine.
this should not be posted in the development subforum. An article stating the same thing, which afaik doesnt work any longer due to the first OTA, has already been created over a month ago. The easiest way is to call Sprint and ask them. It takes two minutes.
Mods, please move this topic to General or QA.
Thanks

As an FYI if you want the mods to move something (given that I doubt they have time to sift through every post of every thread) click the little ! icon on the upper right corner of the OP. That brings the post to their attention.
i have the ota (rooted) and it worked for me
if you want a good reason to give sprint customer service tell them every time you open an app that uses gps the phone crashes. tell them you need to reset the gps receiver using ##4772579# and you need your msl to do so. they didnt even ask me why when i asked for mine.

no i just find it easier to scan stuff on the computer especially since my log was 10+ pages
perhaps OP can change the name of this thread since it does work once the OTAs have been applied....hence it is wrong.
Bummer. No go in Froyo.

Removing ATT apps

Found a way to delete some of the ATT bloatware if you are rooted. There is an app called titanium backup that lets you delete system apps. It is nice having them all out of my app tray since I'll never pay to use them.

I'm rooted and I have it installed, care to tell how to delete them?
Open the program, you'll get a list of apps and status when you go to backup/restore click on an app and you'll get a bunch of options, including unisntall. This worked great for me.

Yeah, this pretty much sums it up. Don't delete any of the google voice or google talk apps though, as another user mentioned this caused problems for him. (Not 100% sure on the specific apps involved though)
I got rid of all of the ATT ones and haven't had any issues.
Ummmm okay, I open the program, select "Backup/Restore" and it gives me:
Accounts
Application Widgets
Bluetooth Pairings
Country, Language, Time zone
Wi-Fi Access Points
If I select "Application Widgets" I get an option to "Backup!", but "Freeze!" and "Uninstall!" are grayed out. I don't even get a list of installed apps.

You should get a list much longer than that.
Try pressing the problems button at the bottom of the screen and letting it download the "known good version" of busybox. Not sure if this will work, but I did it before doing anything else and everything is working good for me.

wow this is by far the best method out there. it even lets you make backups. ill try to get a comprehensive list of what i successfully removed without breaking anything.
ALWAYS SELECT BACKUP BEFORE YOU UNINSTALL.
Ok here is the list:
ATT Hotspots
Mobie TV
ATT Radio
ATT Music
ATT Navigator
ATT Maps
ATT Family Maps
Daily Briefing
Mobile Video 1.0
Mini Diary
Write and Go
Where
YPMobile
Special Notes:
no matter how much you are tempted to, do not uninstall twlauncher.

yeah, guess ill get started on a do all guide for the captivate, expect it in the next 2 days
looooooove it!!! seems to be running smoother alrady got rid of all that AT&T blotware garbage branded apps lol!!!!
rooting
rooting positively absolutley voids warranty, correct? Also....ANY possible way to remove AT&T bloatware w/ out rooting? I'm prob guessing no.
Thanks for the pointers - I just removed all the AT&T apps and the phone definitely seems to approve as much as I do.

I think you need root....
One of the few apps able to remove the bloatware is the Titanium backups but this one needs root to install.
I think if you have adb/sdk and able to console in, you should be able to uninstall crap like that. Then again i think you need root permissions to access those file.
Don't quote me.
pretty sure there will be an unroot so if thats a concern id wait.
I'm new to the whole android scene. I just rooted my phone and currently have Titanium Backup running doing a backup of Apps + System data. Is that all I need to make sure I have a backup of those AT&T apps should I need/want them back?
I believe it is saving them in a folder called TitaniumBackup. Should I transfer that folder to my pc just in case something happens to that backup on my phone?
Thanks for the list of apps to get rid of as well. Will come in handy.

[Q] making my theme crashed the market??

so here is my question, i have searched all over for a answer but cant seem to find one. i took a few themes i found for the cdma hero and took bits and pieces here and there and placed into a metamorph file. i made sure to check all the stock framework was all named the same and used for the same thing and in the same folder. when it was all said and done it looked great. all my apps worked, i had internet connection but when i went to sigh back into Google market and gmail it said i had no data connection. i dont understand what i did since on the last change all i did was buttons and the outlines of the buttons. any ideas?
ug... sorry guy's i meant to post this in the Q&A forum.

[Q] Is there any way to remove deleted paid apps from the market download list?

Hello,
I recently did some house (phone) cleaning and dumped a few no longer used apps I had purchased form the market.
I see that while they are no longer installed on the phone, they continue to stay listed in the market download section listed as purchased. Is this normal or is something wrong with the way my phone is working?
If this is normal, is there any way to remove them or at least shift them all to the bottom of the list?
Thanks,
Scott
Using a rooted Droid2 deodexed running the latest 2.3.2
BTW - I've checked the other threads I found on this but never saw a clear answer. Besides, they were old (2009) unless I missed a more resent one.
bump bump bump
I believe its not possible.
this is perfectly normal and actually allows you to reinstall them at any time since well, you paid for them.
There is no way to remove them also from that list, you could ask google support about this they'll be your best bet.
I don't really see a use for this however, if you don't want them installed, then don't.
I am pretty sure I have seen such option in some tool. Unfortunately cannot remember. I will post of I find it

ehh some apps you may not want others to know you have...
when they show up in paid apps it kind of defeats the purpose because they show up there...
You can ask the developer to refund your purchase...

about to start my first root/rom

Hello group,
Wish me luck. I am about to start my first root/rom install. Going with Andromeda. This will be applied to my 5th replacement phone for the auto shut down issue. It just arrived. I am getting tired of getting replacements and waiting for a good one so that I can go to 2.2. I have read the guides. I have a couple questions that I can't find a clear answer on.
1) I already have a paid version of mybackup pro. Can that be used instead of titanium?
2) My phone is up and running on the stock 2.1. Is it normal to restore all apps, data and system settings from the 2.1 phone to the 2.2 install? Are the system setting compatible between the two?
3) I think I recall some mention of writing down some number from your original phone so that if you have to set it back to stock for warranty. I don't see that in the official instructions though. Is there such a precaution necessary?
Thanks in advance.

1. should owrk
2.Never restore system data. Your just asking for trouble if you do.
3. Back up your efs folder from system and copy it to your pc. As roms chnage android id and imei
cool thanks for the quick response. Nubish question from your response. How do I backup the "efs" folder I don't see it using the phone to browse the files or mounting the phone via usb and browsing via the pc. Do I have to root it first?

Yes you will need to root it first and then you will need a files explorer that will allow you to get to the system files. I use Root Explorer my self. One of the few apps that is well worth the money
good luck with the first go at it. I just did the same the other day and must say best decision I made with this phone.
What everyone else said is good. I would also back up your contacts and write down your APN settings. Some ROMs change the APN.
Contacts:
1) Contacts > menu button > Import/Export > Export to SD Card > you will get a vcard file saved to your sd card. You should also back this up on your pc.
2) You can also sync your contacts with your gmail account. I usually take the vcard from earlier and import it into gmail.
APN:
1) Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks > Access Point Names > just write down the settings in case they change in the future.

Instead of this nonsense
You will be nothing but happy after flashing. I do not mpost much on here, just read and read, but this site is excellent in finding what you need. I ran Phoenix for a while and it was very good, but I have flashed Serendipity 5.0 with the latest Speedmod kernel and its working great. Battery life seems to have improved for me with this combination.
So did you flash?? What was the outcome? Success? Check out Ceszar's continuum theme for Andromeda, just love that along with Andromeda 2.0
I'm curious too as to how everything went for you.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Yes i flashed. running andromeda for the past couple days. seems fine. much faster and the gps lokcs in seconds now. with 2.2 i can now use skype, flash, chrome to phone and use the power button for the camera shutter. All wins for me. I am not sure I get any more battery life out of this setup. I have been playing with it non stop, so I don't have any real world numbers on the battery life. I also learned that mybackup pro can't restore apps backed up from 2.1 to 2.2 I tried 3 times and every time the apps would fail at some point and I wold have to hard close them.
I have noticed a couple times that I have lost the data connections either on wifi or the 3g. Not sure it's the rom, hardware or just plain bad cell sites. but on reboot the connections were fine.
Over all impressed with the dev team for adromeda. They have an irc channel and there seems to be someone always there to answer my questions.

Just an update.
I rolled back to the untheamed 1.0 andromeda and then applied the DMT Dark Theme. did not like the battery meter so loaded modded circle one. Pretty happy with the look now. See the attached running launcher pro.
That looks really good.
I wish I had seen this thread before you installed that new ROM. I would have told you that stickies are for sissies.
Do it all from the seat of your pants and depend on luck. That's what I say. (j/k)
Do you see that business about restoring all system data? I tried that yesterday, I think it was. Got a good install of Paragon RC5. I think I then tried a full system data restore from TiBu. Rebooted the phone and it started back up so that it required a PIN to unlock it. I guess because I had been using that function before install of RC5. The PIN did not work. Tried this method not only once, but twice. Finally figured out how to use TiBu for real, I think. Makes me wonder if these locking schemes are worth using. I suppose they might buy you just a little bit of time in case of theft.
If you get to jonesing for something new, check out the ROM mentioned above.
Glad you're happy with your efforts!
.
Glad to hear it all went well for you. And I like the look you got going there. Seems like you did great for your first time
