[Q] Asurion replacement phone - General Topics

I broke the screen on my HTC Touch Pro2. I called Asurion to get a replacement phone. They said the Touch Pro2 wasn't available and that the HTC Imagio XV6975 is the replacement for it.. I told them that I wanted a phone with a slide out keyboard and they offered me a LG fathom. I asked what else was available and they said that those were the only two. I asked if they I didn't want them if they would refund my premiums. They said no and that they would find another phone for me. I told them I needed to think about it.
What can I suggest they give me? It appears they are more flexible than they let on.
Is there a site anywhere that lists what they give out?

It would help if you gave us a bit more info I think. You say that you want a slide out keyboard so that ruled the Imagio out straight away. What is it that the LG Fathom does not provide that the TP2 does for you? This may help us in suggesting better alternatives.

I'm not asking so much for a suggestion for a new phone as I am asking for what I can get out of Asurion.
As for the Fathom. Frankly, it looks ugly.
If they hold me to one of these two phones. What would recommend?
Is texting that difficult with the Iamgio on screen keyboard?
The one must have for me is tethering. I currently us WIFI router. This is the only internet I have at my house and I watch a lot of netflix through tethering the phone to my laptop and the laptop to the TV.

Doesn't the Fathom have a 1ghz snapdragon cpu, world phone capability, 3.5mm jack, and a screen that is nice to use. That cpu alone might make it worth it.

It does have a 1 gig processor and seems to be a good phone. However, it doesn't have Touch Flo 3D. Actually it doesn't have any input overlay on it. It's straight windows, which is boring and not to functional.
Are there a good variety of overlays I could put on it. Even touch flo? My only experience with doing that was with an overlay that looked like the iphone.
I also thought the phone might be worth alot to sell. I'm out of contract right now and can upgrade too.

any update on this? My Touch Pro 2 has been freaking out lately and it's slowly getting worse. I'm not even using Touch Flo, I like the simplicity of the Windows 6.5 interface, and the last update from HTC to upgrade to Touch Flo 2.5 might as well have bricked the phone because it did all but. I've been eyeing the Epic because I need a keyboard but have never tried Android outside of the store models. I'm done with HTC after this phone, the original T-Mo Dash was amazing... then I switched to Sprint with an HTC Mogul, then the Touch Pro, and now the Touch Pro 2... every ... phone... has had the "Suspension of Death" or whatever, where you have to yank the battery out to get device to power off, the you have to put the battery back in and boot it. I'm so tired of this, even the TWO Android phone my friend had encountered the same issue, so it's NOT windows, or the programs I'm installing... Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my HTC phones when they're working correctly... but every time it dies, I want throw it against the wall. So, what other options were you given?

Would you recommend the Fuze?

I've really been considering to buy the Fuze, but I'm getting mixed reviews. For all the Fuze owners, please answer the poll so that us potential buyers will know what to do.

I'm stuck in between the Fuze and the Touch Pro now... I really don't know which one is better? They are the same price nowadays.
I recommend it. I had the Tilt before and I love the Touch, its probably the best WM phone I've had (I've used the Sprint 700wx, Sprint Q, Sprint Touch, AT&T Tilt and now the AT&T Fuze).
I'm sure the few issues that exist with the Fuze will be fixed within a month or two because of the wonderful people we have here making custom ROMs, porting radios, etc.
I am very happy with my Fuze. It's not perfect and definitely needs some tweaks, but I think it is the best Windows Mobile phone ever put out. The screen is fantastic and makes it worth it by itself.
Pros:
VGA screen
Excellent multimedia
Youtube works both in it's own app and the mobile website
Slingbox looks fantastic
Expanded keyboard
Sleek design
Touch Flo 3D really works good
Finally, good bluetooth reception
Cons:
So-so d-pad
More remappable buttons needed
No headphone out jack
I do miss the tilting screen of the Tilt
No forward facing camera (why AT&T?)
Overall, I love the phone. I don't even need to use my laptop much anymore. Plus, it should only get better. I can't wait to see the Fennec web browser released for WinMo.
The Fuze can run on AT&T's 3G bands, which is the biggest difference. Physically, the Fuze has a PTT button (remappable using a trick in this forum) and the Pro has a front-faceing camera, but they are otherwise the same. You can install whatever Touch Pro ROM you want on the Fuze once you flash Hard SPL on it, so the software difference should not be an issue. If you're on AT&T and in a 3G area, it's a no-brainer decision between the two.

US carriers don't support that functionality so it's cheaper for HTC to leave it out all together.
I've swithed from iPhone after droolling over Fuze release date for 2 months. First couple of days had slight regret (my first WM phone), but once I got the hang of it I fell in love with it. My girl tried it out and dropped her iPhone for Fuze aswell. IMHO, Fuze is on a much higher level and you just can't customize the iPhone the way you can Fuze, no matter what Apple commercials say. Oh and by the way, I realized how crappy Apple products are, but that's another story.
I said no because its not for everyone. I read a lot of people wanting something other than the iphone because of the data plan, this is not an iphone. Then they go and complaint that they cant do this, that its slow, that this, that that. I confess, I am/was one of those whining byotches. I know its not an iphone, I'm just afraid to customizing with roms and then f-it up and be stuck with a nice $300 paper weight. So maybe after my month is up, I'll have the balls to customize it.
Do you have to buy a data plan with the Fuze like you have to with the iPhone, for AT&T?
Only if you want the rebate.
If you want the best browser/entertainment device thats easy to use get an iphone. If you need a business phone outside of entertainment, get the fuze. Both are aimed at different type of consumer.
I know this is exactly what everyone hates to hear, and they just want a plain yes or no, but it really does depend on the person.
If your the kind of person thats really into the stuff they buy, and wants a device that has tons of opportunities and possibilities, then you will probably like the fuze. The beautiful thing about winmo devices is how much you can mess around with them. You can download tons of apps, customize, flash new ROMs, experiment, all kinds of stuff.
If you want something that is ALWAYS going to be friendly and never ever give you any quirks or problems and you just want something that is very cut and dry, the fuze may not be for you.
I would line up your priorities and see what is most important to you and more importantly, what would make you want to throw your phone out the window, cause those are the things that are ultimately going to make you happy when your using your device.
Fuze thoughts:
I have had this phone for 3 days now. My prior phone was an 8125. I unlocked and customized that phone after 30 days. I will most likely do the same thing with this one. Gotta read read read.
Initial review: Absolutely the awesomest phone I have had to date, only the 3rd PDA, though.
I miss the programmable buttons. I haven't figured everything out, but I am getting the hang of it. It has advanced customization, though I haven't even touched the surface. The keyboard is a little different from my 8125, and as I have used it extensively for 2 years, I am accustomed to the numbers being along the top row. I think the 'Full 5 Row QWERTY keyboard on the phone should more closely resemble a normal keyboard, however, I am certain I will get used to it with a little practice.
I have one problem that AT&T doesn't know how to fix: the error message "Smart Chip Not Provisioned MM #2" comes up and shuts off phone signal. I initially thought it was the smart chip. I placed it in my 8125, and no problems. Then I exchanged the phone. Still no fix. It isn't a hard error I can readily duplicate, it just happens intermittently, but only in a specific location, so now I suspect the towers serving the area in which it happens. I suppose it could be the sim card in conjunction with the 3G network which the 8125 doesn't support, but further troubleshooting will eventually solve this one.
Addtionally I was hoping that AT&T wouldn't cripple the forward facing camera, but it isn't there, and I'm not willing to pay $550 more for a Touch Pro off Ebay just for that. As there isn't a lot of network support for live video conferencing, it really isn't that much of a problem for me anyway.
Reception seems to be about the same as my 8125, but again, further testing will support or disprove my initial experience. I am currently having trouble with the GPS function, but it is probably just a configuration/setup issue that I have not played with enough. The phone will tether without the laptop connect package, but you have to make a small edit in the registry. This is a relatively painless process.
This is not meant to criticize the Fuze. These are the only real problems (and minor to me) that I have encountered, and would give this phone a HIGH recommendation.
MrRuss

Help me pick a phone!

My entry into the smartphone/pda industry was an original HTC Tilt/Kaiser. I loved it and still do.
Recently I renewed my contract with AT&T and made the knee jerk decision to get an iPhone 3GS. I was enamored with the phone in the beginning but its over. I am trying to decide which phone to get but none of them fit the bill! So I need some assistance deciding when to sell my iPhone to buy a newer one.
I want to sell it while its still crazy priced on ebay and I can land over $700 for it still heh... crazy people.... So I want to time it about a month prior to the release of the phone I am after.
The one I am eyeballing now is the Sony xperia x10. Although I do sort of want windows mobile (my currency trading broker has some sweet trading software for it.) But I will take the hit and use android with a vpn to my home pc.
I really want a high end phone with a great camera and fast processor and beautiful large screen for multimedia and stock charts...
So what future phones for AT&T fit the bill? Also, if they are not a AT&T direct release is a big plus also since you can get cheaper internet. (Yes I am looking at you x1 users! I hate you!)

Hi Mercilus
The obvious phone that fits that descreption is the HD2 (or Leo, depending how it's being branded where you are), however, for me i would choose the Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium) as it has a phisical keyboard, as a Winmo user, I am unaware of the stats of the android phones lying around
(Go For Winmo )
Badwolve1
I would go for Rhodium or Leo
Thanks for the responses I will research into those a bit.
Doing a quick search and it seems they both are expected any time now?
Still trying to decypher if they are available for US-AT&T 3g.
Rhodium is out since some moths
Tils2 is the name of it on at&t and I guess it has 3G...
And for Leo I know it´s also already out in Europe

LOL...now that's funny
Htc leo/hd2 is coming exclusively to t-mobile u.s.a
For People saying get the HD2 a.k.a HTC LEO, that phone is coming EXCLUSIVELY to T-Mobile U.S.A. If you want that on at&t that means you have to buy the unlocked version and get only EDGE on at&t.
I know this since I follow t-mobile usa and htc on twitter and they both said it. Phonedog said and even facebook said it. Go google it if you doubt me.

Yeah, that definately would be a problem. I definately do enjoy using high speed data, so 3g is a must.
So for the current phone options, it looks like I may be keeping my iPhone 3gs for a bit longer god it hurts to say that.....
Any ideas what I should keep my eye on for the future? The LG Expo looks pretty cool but I dont know if I trust LG....
People here have a bias for HTC, and I don't think they considered that you might want a phone that is being offered by your carrier.
So you are satisfied with Windows Mobile and HTC was a good Xperiance.
I suggest HTC Touch Pro2 or an LG Expo.
HTC Touch Pro2 for functionality.
LG Expo for speed, and performance.
i've been using a dopod u1000 / athena / ameo / advantage for quite some time now...and finally opted to sell it.
just got myself a brand new htc touch pro 2 sprint. definitely worth it!

Very true about the bias.
If you want something like the Tilt ... you could probably get the Tilt 2 for cheap on ebay.
lg expo. just the lg expo.

Here is what I anticipate and what I know and I will list as Pros of the Touch Pro2 (AKA HTC Tilt2) over the LG Expo:
Pros:
Stereo speaker (LG Expo does not have 2-speakers)
Tilting screen (LG Expo does not have)
Dual microphones (LG Expo does not have 2-mics)
Touch FLO3D Home Screen (subjective) (LG Expo does not have)
Better keyboard design and feedback (subjective)
HTC's tendency to offer updates (input fields will be enlarged finger friendly!)
LED Indicators for CAPS Lock and FN Lock, which has proven useful
LG Expo's Point Of View
Pros:
Projector attachment (HTC Tilt2 does not have)
Twice the CPU speed (technical) (HTC Tilt2 does not have)
Fingerprint reader and scroll pad (HTC Tilt2 does not have)
Other Stuff
Things that I never consider when comparing phones: form factor and size difference, and XDA Support (cause I rarely flash and do that kind of stuff).
Things that you must consider when reading my opinions: I have never laid my hands on an LG Expo. I never touched the LG Expo keyboard but from the looks of it, the keys look amazing, but I've laid my hands on top keyboards before and Touch Pro2 is the best so I am just guessing that LG Expo isn't as good.
As you can see, if you need a speedy device with keyboard almost as good as the Touch Pro2, get the LG Expo. If you are tired of the lag of the likes of Xperia X1, Touch Pro1, or Touch Diamond, then maybe LG Expo is better than Touch Pro2.
If you really like the fact that you have an indicator their to watch your back and protect you from Capitalization/Symbol typography-mistakes, and if you like a beautiful home-screen to soothe your stress while you load a movie and watch it via a 3.5 inch tilting screen with high quality and loud volume, then get the Touch Pro2.
However, you might consider getting external bluetooth speakers and attach that projector on the expo so you can have a movie experience, but the setup is just too much of a wasted time. The same goes for the TV-Out on the Touch Pro2.
The best reason to get Expo2 is for speedier response and for projected presentations (not entertainment).
The best reason to get Touch Pro2, aka Tilt2, is for it's multimedia value and capabilities (better sound, tilting screen) and for the effectiveness of typing messages (especially when you don't make mistakes with CAPs indicators).
What would seal the deal for me was that if the CAPs button had the LED indicator build into the button, it would be perfect. The same desire applies to the FN button. Besides, sometimes I forget to read the indicator because I am used to looking at the indicator directly on top of my CAPs button on my laptop.

Why?
I was hoping for an advantage as an upgrade to the Universal. To me, the touch pro2 is just too small and fiddly.

apologies as this is deviating from the topic =)
the thing is, i've been using my u1000 for like 3 years now. don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic device. but i've also outgrown the size factor. meaning, the u1000 is not as easy to carry around unless you tuck it in your pocket...in which case you'll have a bulge that deserves its own zip code. of course there are pouches or cases that can be strapped on your belt...not that i'm not a fan of it...and there is simply carrying it around with one hand. given that, when a call comes through i either have to use the handsfree or bluetooth...the former of which has a dangling wire which i'm not too comfortable with...and the latter which can be a drain as you constantly have to be aware of battery life (both for the bt and u1000)...and trust me, i never had plans of putting the unit right next to my ear to answer a call. again, it's a fantastic device but my preferences have changed. so last monday, sent it off to a buyer in ebay and then got myself a touch pro 2.
on that note, i was considering a touch hd 2, an acer m900, lg expo, and the touch pro 2. my views in order of preference
touch pro 2 - keyboard is fantastic. was able to try this out myself when i borrowed my mate's unit. tilt screen is awesome and the display was simply tops. i already have a 16gb micro sd so memory is no problem.
touch hd 2 - fantastic all out but lacks a physical keyboard of which i've gotten used to.
lg expo - a very good contender but the screen doesn't tilt. plus i get all the support i need through this site for an htc. not really a fan of the fingerprint thingee. i was able to play around with this while in hong kong. keys are good (definitely better than the acer m900 per below) but not on par with the touch pro 2. for the projector which you need to purchase separately, there's a whole bunch of mobile projectors that can be bought and linked to your ppc.
acer m900 - lacks memory (@128 ram), while in hong kong i was able to fiddle with one and i must say that the design wasn't as good...no offense to anyone using it. keyboard was not as easy (sticking keys), screen does not tilt, sliding the keypad kinda gave me the feel that it would eventually fall off (?) as it was "shaky"

TBH, Acer is the worst of them all, and Touch Pro2 and HD2 are the best.
And the LG Expo isn't that good either but it is a sign that LG is finally making good phones. I'm tired of their voyagers and env's which are too popular in the U.S. and they are the worst 'smartphones' ever. Their new chocolates with 4 in super-wide displays and 4.8 inch super-wide displays have also increased my enthusiasm for LG phones.

Upgrading from touch pro, what do I get?

So today I decided I wanted to replace my Touch Pro. I've been having some issues with it lately so I took it to my repair center, as I have service plan on it, to see what they could do for me. Long story short all they did was replace it with a refurbished Touch Pro - not a problem as mine was really beat up.
However, I have an upgrade coming at the beginning of next month and am having troubles deciding on what phone to get.
This is what I narrowed my choices down to, all sprint:
1. HTC Hero
- This phone is $79.99 right now online all instant rebates!
2. HTC Touch Pro 2
- Exact same specs as my current Touch Pro but with better keyboard and screen and is $199.99 after $100 MIR
3. HTC Moment
- Android with full qwerty slide out keyboard and is $99.99 after $100 MIR
Here are my concerns:
1. The Touch Pro 2 is what i have been leaning towards for the past several months. I was hoping to get the free upgrade to this from the repair center but that did not happen. Also I do not think it makes sense to pay $199.99 for a phone which is identical in specs to the "crappy" phone I have now.
2. The HTC Hero is my next option which I am really starting to like the more I look into it. However, it is android and I am a windows man. I have used android on my Touch Pro and have found it to be very nice, but i'm worried I wont be able to manage my calendar, text, calls, emails as easily as I was able to before. Lastly, this phone is missing a hardware keyboard, even though it does have a very nice virtual keyboard!
3. The moment has got to be one of the uglier android phones I have seen floating around. But it would have the "power" from android that everyone is talking about and I would retain my hardware keyboard. I still can't seem to get past the price of the Hero right now though.
In Summary:
I think i'm going to get the Hero but really would like some input from some other Touch Pro users and if there is anyone that has upgraded to android from Touch Pro what your thoughts are. I have looked around these forums and have read a lot about the phones and what they are capable of...but it still comes down to how well they work as a whole not what they can do.
Also, if there are any other phones that might be a good choice over what I mentioned let me know, it has to be compatible with sprint. I will not switch carrier they are the best in my area. And the EVO is out of the question, battery life is bad due to screen size and I don't think the extra $10 is worth it when i have to go into another state to get 4G!
HTC Hero
I recently switched from an HTC Touch Pro2 to an HTC EVO. I've previously had Android setup on my Touch Pro2 and it felt nothing like it did on the EVO or even my brother's Hero. When I had the Touch Pro2, it felt bogged down due to WinMo compared to the Hero with similar specs in my opinion. There were lots of times I would admire the hardware keyboard and while it is one of the Touch Pro2's greatest asset, I felt it hindered the experience sometimes when it came to switching between orientations. For instance, there were times when I would text someone and swap to the hardware keyboard only to find that the input box wouldn't display my key presses and I would have to quickly swap orientations again to "refresh" my inputs.
To me, Android seems to manage processing and handle lag better than Windows Mobile. So far, it's been a smooth and enjoyable experience for me (HTC EVO) and my brother (HTC Hero).

Do you use the calendar or gps heavily? Also, I just found out that froyo 2.2 will be awhile before it reaches the hero. I have yet to even see froyo or what has been added. Does anyone think it is worth fussing over?
GPS & Calendar
I am generally a schedule- and task-oriented person. So yeah, I find that Android offers a nicer interface and input for logging in appointments. I've always been a Google person, so syncing it with my Google calendar is a no-brainer.
As for the GPS, I have found that Google Maps is by far the best GPS I have used. I have a high-end TomTom device and after using Google Maps, I no longer feel the need for the TomTom. Augmented reality Android applications such as Layars and Layers from Google Map makes it easier to find places and things of my interest within a specific proximity which I find convenient if I'm in an area unfamiliar to me.
The intuitiveness of Android won me over in the end.
Well, you really really helped me out here. I have been leaning towards android for awhile and have been using it on the touch pro, but that doesn't compare to the real thing.
I just needed to hear it from someone else who was more "business" orientated and wasn't just in it for the stupid beer can apps like iphone.
I got the Hero from sprint a few hours ago. I can honestly say that I have no regrets. I have yet to use the Google Maps, but i'm sure it will suffice. I will miss my Garmin XT app though. Along with all the customizations that SPB Mobile brought to the windows market. But it was pretty slow.
"Stay Frosty"
That's good to hear! Yeah, I hear ya. I also had my doubts when I was operating it on my HTC Touch Pro2. But, once the Android phone I wanted so long came out I threw away any and all hesitation. I'm glad it was a no compromise situation for me and I hope it will be that way for you.
After playing with it all day....I love this phone!!! It is everything I needed in a phone and everything I wanted in a phone. The virtual keyboard is one of the best I have used, in my mind the evo has the only better virtual keyboard.
I would go for Rhodium with no doubt!
And even more if you are coming from a device with REAL keyboard.

[Q] Need some advice on phone replacement!

Hello!
I'm in kind of a bind trying to figure out what to do in regards to replacing my smartphone. Around October 2009, I signed a 3 year contract with Telus and obtained an HTC Touch Pro 2. I loved it until I broke it at SeaWorld in Florida.
In June I took it to Telus for repair (where they give it to a 3rd party repair shop here in Nova Scotia). It's been in for repair since then, I still haven't got it back. The only thing that was broken on it was the digitizer (just the glass behind it). Since I put it in, the LCD had to replaced as well for whatever reason, and now the battery is toast. And the thing quote "isn't booting". Because I had the thing flashed to 6.5, they won't honour the warranty, and continue to take their sweet time in repairing it. Eventually I got fed up and borrowed a spare unlocked BlackBerry Bold 9000 from a friend, which I later just bought off him for next to nothing.
Problem I'm having now is the Bold is way too small, and the tiny keyboard is really starting to cramp my hands and give me hand pain, so I want to get something else that's either got a hardware keyboard oriented sideways (landscape), or has a decently sized touch screen. I'd try to get my TP2 back, but I don't really want to deal with the resistive screen or lack of HSPA support now.
I've been looking at following:
HTC HD2: A friend of mine has had one for about a year now - the Telstra version. I can't seem to find a decently priced one though, most of them are well over 700CAD.
HTC HD7: Same deal as the HD2, it's really expensive, even used.
Samsung Galaxy S: This one looks the most promising, as most of them are around $400 used and even new. After some searching on these boards, I found some information regarding how awful they are... at least with the software. If it's just software issues that are fixable myself by replacing Samsung's crap software, I can deal with that.
BlackBerry Torch: I'd probably exclusively use the touchscreen keyboard due to the hardware one being as awful as the Bold's. I'd rather not bother with another BlackBerry though.
LG Quantum: I've had bad luck with LG products in the past (namely DVD drives eating discs and spitting out shards), and it looks a bit small. Bell never has them to try near me.
If there's a handset that fits what I'm looking for that I didn't think of, let me know. Thanks for any help given!
I Like Galaxy Series
I haven't had any experience with the other phones you mentioned, so my recommendation is completely biased.
I have a Samsung Captivate. I rooted it just yesterday (sick and tired of playing the "oh it'll be just a few more days" and the end of those few days never comes - Rath to AT&T and Samsung for this) and flashed an Android 2.2. ROM. Before this phone, I had a Blackberry Bold 9000, loved that phone....until I got my hands on the Samsung!
Things to watch out for with Samsung - just expect to do your own software updates. Sometimes I've experienced issues with the "Back" button 'sticking' (although that has improved since rooting and flashing 2.2). GPS doesn't work that great until you get 2.2. Battery dies fast - an app called "Juice Defender" (Available on the Market) helps me a lot with that.
Some pros: The screen is fabulous, I love watching YouTube and other various videos online with it. It's easy to connect to any WiFi and automagically knows which WiFi to connect with. It's fast (and faster after 2.2). I LOVE SWYPE (keyboard input method) you can't get that on any phone other than Samsung - it really IS FASTER for texting and e-mailing etc.
So those are my unofficial, biased thoughts. Good luck with your decision.
I vote for Leo as you can have Android running also and soon perhaps WP7
Yes it´s hard to get a Telstra version on a good price, I am looking for one too...
Don't get the Torch, I had one and it was a horrible disappointment. Touchscreen interface is terrible, the device is very cheap feeling, and the OS itself is still miles behind Android and iOS.
If I were you I would do with either a Galaxy S with a custom ROM, or a HD2 with NAND Android. I have used both, currently use Android NAND on the HD2, and love it.

HTC touch pro

Hey everyone. my girlfriend is looking to get a different phone but doesn't want all the data plan and stuff the smartphones have. i read somewhere that the touch pro doesnt need a data plan is that true.. Also Is this thing laggy or anything i have heard the diamond is a bit laggy. if so do the cooked roms seem to make it smoother and more reliable.. thanks for any info!!! its greatly appreciated. just wanna know whats shes getting into before she gets one
If I'm not mistaken. any phone that you purchase off contract/third party can be used without data (I could be wrong here). Probably best to get the newer phones as the TP is not the best of the best but it'll get you by, IF you want to compromise price. Other than that, it's not a bad phone, I honestly have no desire for a new phone at the moment. I've had mine for more than two years and I am liking my current configuration. Let's put it this way, if she like using a phone with an outdated OS, then by all means! If she wants something more, I'd go with an Android device... IMHO
well she has messed with the new smart phones and she was just like its just to much for me. i don't need to use any of that stuff. she has an lg env touch which of course isnt a smart phone. She doesnt want to spend a whole lot of money on a phone that has a bunch of things that it can do but she wont use it for. Well she wants one but And i have seen some android roms made for the touch pro? im not sure. she likes the keyboard and all that. how is the touch screen on it? and you can get it in GSM right? i was probably going to flash the energy rom on it for her and all that. how much better is it then the env touch.

Just as R^7Z above, I've had my TP for over two and a half years now, and am still immensely happy with it (not meaning to say though that I don't occasionally yearn for something faster and flashier). I've dropped my TP countless times onto concrete and tiles, and even have it fly off the back of my motorbike onto the road and get driven over by a car - and only had to replace the battery cover! So it's definitely a sturdy 'phone.
If your girlfriend's used to capacitive touch screens, she probably won't particularly like the TP's resistive screen. Though if she's got long nails, she might actually prefer it (I remember a colleague with long nails complaining when she got an iPhone 3).
EnergyROM might initially be a little daunting for her with all of the extra functionality (multiple screens, etc), but the layout's very easy to modify with the built-in tools, so you can make it easier to access.
The best thing about the TP now as opposed to when I got it, is the price. You can get a brand new one from China for under $300 including postage - I originally paid almost $1.2k for mine in '08.
