[Q] Can I make my milestone to omap3440 and 512ram? - Motorola Milestone Android Development

Can I make my milestone to omap3440 and 512ram?
Is anybody know?Sorry my english is poor~
In china,a mobile phone from moto called XT800 can play 720p video. It is omap 3430,and it can hdmi out~
so omap 3430 can play 720p video~but our milestone~
~
And can i up my milestone to 512ram or 448ram?

A friend from Ti told me omap 34x0 only support 256mb ram max

[Q] d2g processor?

hi everyone at these great XDA forums i have a quick question, what processor does the d2g have? ive seen several reports say that its a TI OMAP 3630 and other reports saying that its a 3640, and frankly i have no idea which it is.
On a similar note, whats the real difference between the 3630 and the 3040? ive read that the 3630 handles memory better than the 3640, i dont know if theres a way to tell, and i dont know if theres anything else that is different between the two processors.

TI OMAP3630-1200
from motodev website:http://developer.motorola.com/products/droid2global/
so whats the difference between the 3630 and 3640?

not sure exactly this is what the wiki has for them:
# OMAP3640 - 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 + PowerVR SGX530 GPU + 430 MHz C64x+ DSP + ISP (Image Signal Processor)+IVA 2+ hardware accelerator
# OMAP3630 - 720 MHz ARM Cortex A8 + PowerVR SGX530 GPU + 430 MHz C64x+ DSP + ISP (Image Signal Processor)+IVA 2+ hardware accelerator
So it almost looks identical but the one used in the D2G is the 3630-1200 meaning it's stock clocked @ 1200Mhz (1.2Ghz) so I'm not sure what's ticking different on the inside.
thanks for the reply newk, i didnt think much was different
I was actually told the D2G has the same cpu as the DX and M2 and not the D2. The different actually being D2 doesn't have 720 video recording ability, unlike the DX and M2, which have it possibly because of the cpu.

I can tell you the D2G does not have the ability to record in 720p or for now. We can only record in 420p.
I would love to see someone modify the video camera app to allow us to use 720p but I also think we may be limited by the camera sensor.
Milestone 2, which essentially is Droid 2 hardware wise with a GSM radio can do 720P. CPU is weaker than the one on D2G (3630-1000 on the MS2 vs 3630-1200 on the D2G). Camera sensor is the same on both. 5MP sensor is more than enough resolution wise not only for 720p but even for 1080p. I guess we will see some hacks in the future regarding 720p recording on D2G. Give it some time. I won't be surprised even if Motorola makes it official with some of the next updates. But, honestly, 720p video on most phones today sucks enough not to be worth it anyways. Doubt MS2 (eventually D2G) will be any better.
i believe its the camera sensor itself that doesnt support 720p, being the same sensor as in the droid og and all

[REF] OMAP3 specifications

Recommended maximum frequency: 720 MHz
Very nice:
Embedded 430MHz TI TMS320C64x DSP, Embedded image signal processor (12MP camera support), 2D/3D graphics acceleration (IVA 2+), Imagination Technologies POWERVR SGX SGX530 graphics core (OpenGL ES 1.1, OpenGL ES 2.0, OpenVG), SmartReflex technologies, M-shield mobile security, ARM TrustZone, Composite and S-video TV output, XGA/WXGA 16M-color (24-bit definition) display support, High Speed USB2.0 On-The-Go support
We are currently working on TV out and USB OTG..But we are lack of experienced Developers to make it work..

It's a good device but after some questions...

If you want to play H.264 high profile movie, DO NOT BUY Tegra2 based devices.
common 1080p(BDRips) are MKV(Container)+H.264 [email protected]~5.x+DTS/AC3 audio.
Tegra2 have hw limitations to play H.264 High profile.
My recommendations are
1. SGS2 : 1080p/1080i(it can de-interlace with HW)
2. Sensation(or Dualcore Snapdragon equipped devices) : 1080p capable but some shutter occur when you playing high bitrate movies.
3. Galaxy Tab(7inch) : can play 1080p
MKV container and DTS issues can be solved with Diceplayer.

My question now is:
How do OMAP 4430 'handles' MKV 1080p High Profile/high bitrate?
I've read that 'theoretically' OMAP should be better in 1080p decode that Samsung Exynos.. Is this truth?
Another question...:
Someone knows the difference between OMAP 4430 and Galaxy Nexus OMAP 4460 ?
Cpu i think it's the same.. probably its the mhz on PowerVR SGX540 right?
yes.. Droid Razr will be my next phone.
Thanks in advance.

Diceplayer does not support OMAP4 yet.
Samsung's video decoder implementation is much faster and powerful than TI's implementation. Samsung want to use Exynos to their TV and Settops. So Samsung AP's video decoder accept all of H.264 profile & level.
Exynos and Hummingbird support Zero copying rendering. it is much faster rendering than OMAP4's V4L2 overlay rendering.
Thanks for your help Juami..
That means that diceplayer dont run on android's with TI OMAP4?
Galaxy Nexus have a OMAP 4460.. i guess there will be support for OMAP in [a near] future right?
About OMAP4's V4L2 overlay rendering... is better then the rendering/decode engine on Dual Core snapdragons [HTC Sensation/ Sensation XE]?
Thanks

[Q] Xperia Arc or Optimus Black P970?

Hi guys,
I'm looking to buy an Android phone and have narrowed it down to these two phones. There doesn't seem to be much between them in the specs. Are there any good/bad points worth knowing about either phone that might help me decide?
I intend to root and probably install CFW, both seem quite well supported in that regard. Is there much difference between the processors?..
Optimus Black - 1 GHz Cortex-A8 processor, PowerVR SGX530 GPU, TI OMAP 3630 chipset
Xperia Arc - 1GHz Scorpion processor, Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon
Thanks!
Arc. The screen is miles better =]

What is The Best 4" Android Phone?

Hi..
What is the best 4" Android phone in the market? I used to use Galaxy Nexus but that phone is HUGE!
So I am looking for a beast performance phone with 4" or 3.7" screen and ICS on it.
Lava XOLO X900 but it is available in India Only
Don't know the best on the market now, but my friend has a HTC Incredible S and that on is 4". The processor is 1 Ghz, but instead of standard 512 mb ram, this one has 768 mb ram instead.
If you were willing to go a bit bigger, like 4.3" display, then the HTC One S. 1 gb ram and 1.5 Ghz dual core processor.
These are the only ones I can think about, and both has got official ICS.
Go for a 4.3" and I'll recommend the HTC One S.
yes lava xolo is beast ....
atom processor and 400 MHz of gpu.....
and $400

Sony Ericsson Neo V
Screen 3.7 480 x 854 pixels
CPU 1 GHz Scorpion
GPU Adreno 205
5 MP, 2592Ñ…1944 pixels
OR
Sony Ericsson Arc S
Screen 4.2 480 x 854 pixels
CPU 1.4 GHz Scorpion
GPU Adreno 205
Camera 8 MP, 3264x2448 pixels
If you really need it to be exactly 4", then I would suggest the LG Optimus 2X (or G2X).
Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX(You know it's a beast if they had to name it in capital)
Lenovo lephone k800 shipped from China.
Meizu MX also from China(retina display )
Lava xolo from India
Toshiba Arrows Z (waterproof/dustproof quad core)
HTC Sensation XE.

+1. I'm in search for the best 4" (exactly) as well. 8mp, dual core and the cheapest in its class.
