When I bought my phone, it had Ezinput already installed with Pinyin. It worked great! Unfortunately the stock rom (Rhodium_S2_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.07.707.1 ROM) was very slow so I installed Energy. Now, I have a fast system but no Chinese support. I've tried several IMEs like Sogou or this one[1] and none of them work correctly (the second one screwed up my phone and I had to hard reset, and it doesn't even bring up Chinese options in text messages).
I liked Ezinput the best, but I can't seem to find it in simplified Chinese anywhere, here or on HTC's website. Where can I get this?

This might be something that jockyw2001 understands. I have a Kaiser that was originally traditional chinese. I updated it to the latest WM6.1 WWE English ROM, but I'm finding some strange behavior.
For example, I want to install CEStar Chinese Input and Display. The problem I ran into is an error message on install that says CEStar is already installed and that I should remove it before re-installing it. While I need to use mainly english, I still get Chinese email, SMS and even use Papago in traditional chinese.
Not sure what is going on here. I definitely cannot display Chinese characters (they all show up as blocks on my phone) but I can't instlal CEStar either. If someone kneows what is going on, please let me know.

hang n just want to share an opinion
hi mikelim i have bought a kaiser that was originally a simplified chinese n ive changed it to english version n it seem have no problem at all but when i have istall the CEStar Chinese Input and Display it sometimes hang n i must soft reset it n not just that sometimes using keyboard it have a lag (freeze for 2 or 3 second) but maybe you have to try to install a ROM RUU_Kaiser_HK_WWE_1.82.721.1_radio_sign_22.51.88.13_1.27.15.32R2_Ship that work fine on me but still the CEstar won't work very smooth ...
I am a Q9 fan. Q9 is my favorite input method for Chinese, developed in HK. I have been using it since my Palm PDA days, upgrading from version to version. Never have had any trouble.
The latest Q9 version is said to work on WM6.5. After installing on HD2, things look fine, except that the "new line" and "backspace" keys give a long string of gibberish. And not just from Q9. These two keys from any input method (eg including Swype) give the same results. So I unistall Q9. Then HTC Sense went crazy. Several input methods (including the built-in Touch) are lost. Many Sense screens mysteriously became WM6 screens. In general, things aren't operational even after power off reboots.
So I did a complete restore and report the case to www.q9tech.com
But until they figure out what happened, don't try it with your Leo.
Just installed a new version of PPC 6.5 (posted on Apr-2010) and everything goes fine. You may try the new one on your HD2

Do you have swype? last time I was testing with them, I found that if Swype is not installed, Q9 works fine, but if Swype is, then it went into problems.
If you want traditional Chinese input for HKG or Taiwan, you can simply just flash your HD2 with the Chinese official rom. I didn't want to go though all those trouble finding a program to write Chinese, so I just flash my phone with official Taiwan HD2 rom. The down side of this is that you cannot use swype with the chinese rom.
Hi there,
I've been trying to find a definitive answer for this some time now but I can't seem to find one.
Does android 2.1 support a japanese IME? If I use google it tells me this: http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.1.html
Which means that there is a Japanese IME. Atleast there is one for devs... But when I get my HTC Legend from Europe will it also come with the IME and keyboard installed? I know that in case its not there are some keyboards on the market but what I've seen on it they don't seem to be that good. Or could a app like more locale trick anroid into displaying the keyboard?
If I remember correctly the japanese IME from the Japanese Magic set is floating about.
Do a search for iWnnIME. (Note: no font replacement necessary, the Droid Fallback font has Japanese inside)

http://my.opera.com/wiz/blog/2009/06/16/how-to-install-japanese-ime-on-android (this seems to work on my unit, don't know about you...)
Note that this does NOT fix a bug that's been around since 1.6 that affects your music player. The Android Media Scanner software doesn't handle non-English characters correctly, and hasn't done so for, um, ever.
Yes I found that site too. But it seemed I found a older article as the one I read before said you had to have a rooted device. Now the legend is also rooted but still... it wasnt when I first read it
I dont have my legend yet, it should be coming next week so I don't really understand what I have to do yet (I suppose I just have to boot the sdk app on the phone and type in the commands?) but I'm sure that will become more clear when I got the phone.
*bump*
Before ordering the Sprint HTC EVO, I would like to know this too.
simeji
search the Market for an app called simeji, its a full IME with a bunch of options, my g/f loves it!

Awesome! That worked perfectly! FYI, for those that find this thread later on, there are many apps that come up when you search on "Simeji". At the very top should be two exact matches:
Simeji
Simeji Classic
Both have a mushroom icon.
The "Classic" version is for Andriod 1.5. The non-Classic version is for Andriod 1.6 and later.
I installed it on Andriod 2.1 today, and it worked great! Has great instructions after you install it.
Yes I installed it too and its pretty good. But sometimes the hauptic feedback doesnt work perfectly when typing and I don't like how there doesnt seem to be a option to hide the keyboard.
Performed update to Gingerbread yesterday - Install went smooth - Root went smooth.
By the way - not a total noob, just never actually created an account before - shame on me. Should be thanking people all the time.
Anyway - Today after booting when I try to speak a text message or speak a search in the market the phone thinks I'm speaking Spanish and adds text in spanish (not an actual translation, just what it thinks I'm saying in Spanish). Trust me, I'm speaking English, and I'm not drunk.
Google search feature recognizes my english and creates text in english.
I've checked all the settings in my device and all languages are set to English (US).
I've tried switching to other English formats as well. No change.
Any ideas?
Profile too new to post in Dev Section...
Also, tried updating keyboard to Keyboard from Android 2.3. Nice design, but didn't help fix the issue.
Tried scouring the site for this issue, but don't see it noted anywhere.
Thanks!
Strange
K, oddly enough - this corrected itself when I removed the Chrome to Phone app.
All set.
Hello, I have installed gboard and everything was fine until I realized that deleting a word sometimes leaves last letter and that last letter can't be deleted. It's this case in Samsung internet and chrome. I even encounter with it here in this typing box. I think it has something to do with autocorrect?
I am actually having the exact same problem and haven't found a solution. Is this a known problem? Have you found anything online that I missed?
ME too
I use Gboard on S7 and Nexus7 all the time and never had problems with deleting letters. In Gboard settings for Text correction I only enabled Show suggestions, Next-wordsuggestions, Auot capitalization and Multilingual typing. May be You can try out what setting is responsible for Your issue.
Hi! My problem is different, but suits for this subject.
Last week I bought Galaxy S7 Exynos (Nougat) and installed Gboard. Unfortunately, predictive words doesn't show, despite enabling this functionality in Gboard settings. To be more precised, bar where words should appear is visible, but there are no predictive words on it. I googled about this issue and tried several solutions, including clearing cache, reinstalling Gboard, installing previous version - still no luck. I have up-to-date stock ROM. The only way to show predictive words is to add secondary language, i.e. English - but that's not best workaround, because I'd like to use Polish as my default language.
Do you have any idea how to solve this problem?
Hm, I have GBoard on my S7 Exynos since 2016 with latest official firmware and no issues. I have German as primary and English (US) as secondary and I get suggestions for both, depending on my selection.
May be, we can compare the settings on our devices.
@mausbock
Sure, why not. Attached screenshots are in Polish, but I believe all settings are in the same order.
Ok, I compared the settings. Beside the Emojis that I don't use the only difference is that I have two languages set up. I dropped the second for testing and auto suggestion is still working.
Hm, strange, but I think setting up a second language but do not use it, will be the best solution for now. May be, a factory reset will help on Your issue, but I would definitely not recommend this.
May be, English as second language is an option to post on XDA forums. [emoji6]
Sorry, I don't have any idea, why it is not working with one language on Your device.
Well, I tried addidng second language before. The only difference is that sugestion bar shows predctions in English - even if I turn them off.
Ok, if I understand that right, only the polish suggestions are missing? That's really strange.
Yep, that's true.
Hm, I added polish to my keyboard for testing and I get polish suggestions...
What build do you use?
Firmware is G930FDBT1DQJ1, the latest official german version without provider branding,
GBoard version is 6.9.8.183626756.
Well, same firmware (polish version to be precise) and Gboard build. I'm out of ideas.
