[Q] WiFi Apps - Android Apps and Games

I've owned my ZTE Racer for a 2 days and haven't even needed to read the phone manual. Really simple and easy. I've downloaded many Apps and kept the best. However I'm having problems with a WiFi App that will allow me to connect to a WiFi source. If I connect manually using Settings>WiFi etc all is well but no matter what WiFi App I use they won't connect even though the do show Internet Authorised when they find my own WiFi router. Am I missing something as I'm never asked for any settings and I'd assumed the App was using the settings I'd set manually. What am I doing wrong?

You should use the built in wifi app. Why do you neen another?

wireless setting

Any one know how to reset ur wire less setting. Im haveing a ip address conflic I guess at work. Wont pull any internet . Problem is I have no way of changing it on work computer. So I need a diff ip adress.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I would think turning it off and back on should do it...Should grab a new ip address..that or statically map one. The DHCP server should be checking for an ip before giving you one so I think that just turning it off and on should fix it.
Tried that and tried forgetting but same ip .105.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Maybe try removing the network and adding it again will help.
D its see remove network but see forget network. That dont help either.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Ok stilk no luck. Downloaded wifi static from market to change ip address and stil no luck. Either I don't know how to use the app or phones messed up on this router.
But I have the exact same router and can connect fine at home.8.8mbs at home
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Well..the DHCP has the ip associated with your MAC address so everytime you turn on the wireless it asks the dhcp server for an address and the dhcp says..o hey I have one here already for you. If you turn off the wireless can you still ping the address? If so then the dchp may be set up wrong and not checking for dupes before giving the address out.
How would I ping my phone?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
O sorry no..I meant turn off the wireless on the phoine the go to a computer and ping the address from there. But..if you said it was a duplicate ip address ill just take your word. No idea then.
To the OP,
What's happening to your device? Are you able to successfully connect to your WiFi but not get any Internet data (browse the web, search YouTube, or use any programs that require internet)? Are you getting an error message saying there is a conflict?
This happened to me yesterday. While I didn't get any error messages, my Cap's WiFi was able to connect to my company's wireless router. However, I could not get online, search YouTube, update my Daily Briefing or use any programs that require the internet. It says it's connected however I'm not getting any internet data. I touch "Forget" and try again several times. I even did a factory reset and still no-go. I called Samsung and they put me through Level 2 Support. While waiting on the phone with the tech, it finally worked for no reason. I was dumbfounded with the tech. Weird!!!
Addendum: When I couldn't connect to my company's WiFi with WPA/WPA2 PSK, I went to another office to connect to an unsecured WiFi. It worked. I got on the internet. My WiFi with WEP at home works. However, the problem was with my company's WPA/WPA2 PSK security WiFi. I'm not sure if the security has something to do with the issue.
got it solved..seems I wasent using the wifistatic program correctly.
Also no security at work just open connection.
If some one needs the steps I used I can post later when I get home.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Please post your steps. This would be very useful. I am having similar problems at work wifi and I dont think it is the Captivate that has the issue.
Srry had stuff come up yesterday.
Any way download wifistatic from market. Make sure ur are seeing a access. Open wifi static and add config. It will set all settings. After it sets settings chang ip address number to a higher number like.120. Save it. Then go to ur phone wifi settings and hit the menu button and select advanced. Go in there and make sure the ip address u wanted and click save..
If it dont work after this then its not a ip address conflic..
Srry typing from phone.

Photon Q 4G LTE, USB/WiFi Tether, Anyone?

So the unlocking of the boot loader was simple with Motorola's instructions on their website. Now all I need to figure out how to do is fix the USB tethering so it simply works...
Anyone know how to do this yet? I know there are programs that you can install/use but I don't want to use those.
Not sure if it has the option to do that out of box or not but if it does and its not working, I remember someone saying it is picky with what USB cable you use.
Or by programs you mean not installing programs on the PC? and not by apps?
I know it doesn't out of the box. Just trying to find a fix for it.

It is hard to say as it varies per phone, try going to google play and searching for usb tether and try a few. If none work, in WORST case you can make a Proxy on your phone and then route your internet through the proxy on your browser. Though any reason why Wifi/Bluetooth is not an option?
Tried some of the apps on the market, none are working. PdaNet won't even install. Usb is preferred, wifi or bluetooth would be fine for now. How do you setup the proxy? Ive never done that on a phone yet.

If wifi/bluetooth is an option try FoxFi. If that doesn't work, ill instruct you how to do the proxy thing.
Tried FoxFi and it says its not supported by my carrier (sprint) so it doesnt let me install. Same thing with pdanet

you mean doesn't let you install from sprint market? or doesn't work when you open it? you can download the apk directly on the developers site or download it on Amazon appstore.
App market doesn't allow the download. I'm going to try to find the apk for pdanet, i do have the license for the full version of that. All that i have been able to download just haven't worked. Ill let ya know what i can figure out.

Okay... i got PDA Net working. Had to download the apk elsewhere other than the market where its not allowed. That allows usb, bt, and wifi. I guess this will work for now until some devs get some fixes out for the new photon Can't be driving around the country without internet for my laptop...

This is why I just use Amazon Appstore, no silly carrier locking. And it keeps the locked apps updated.

Any results yet? I'll buy this phone or not depending on whether PdaNet can work.
BTW how is its reception in low signal areas,
and does its GPS work reasonably well?

I just went from my Epic 4G... The Photon Q has a lot better signal strength than the Epic. PdaNet is working great. I downloaded it from here: http://www.apkfullapps.com/2012/03/pdanet-pro-v350-apk-app.html I selected rapid gator, it comes as p350.zip and contains the apk for the phone, and both 32 & 64 bit versions of the computer app needed.
You will need to buy a license for it to be able to visit https sites. Here is their site:
http://junefabrics.com
The GPS seems to be working great. I've had no issues with it yet so far. Always seems to be accurate, and fast at getting the original location. I'm hoping that soon enough I won't have to use PdaNet to tether anymore now that motorola released the kernal source. That makes it a lot easier for our devs to get new roms and fixes out for it
after rooting with shabby's cwm, I tried Wi-Fi tether, but I couldn't connect to the hotspot. I opened an issue with the Google project

My USB tethering works right out of the box. I just hooked it up to my PC, let the included Motorola software install the relevant drivers and turned on the option in the settings. Bam, had my desktop online. It takes it a few moments to connect and sometimes you have to play with the setting or unplug it/plug it back in etc. before it works. I sometimes get a message that my plan may not support tethering, but that always goes away if I just poke at the setting a couple more times. Patience seems to be the key. Sometimes it takes a little while for the network to be identified by Win7-64, which is what I am using.
I'll try WiFi hotspot later and see if my bridge can connect to it ...
Infrastructure Wifi Tether
I have found that with my Photon Q, after I unlocked it and rooted, I downloaded the newest "Wifi Tether For Root Users" off the Play Store and out of the box it worked.....as ad-hoc....I have found that if you go into the settings of Wifi Tether and hit "Change Device-Profile" and choose "Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)" then choose "Change Setup-Method" and hit "Netd (master)" then setup the Wifi Tether to your liking it will work without a problem on infrastructure.

Thanks for the link! Got it up and working and was able to verify that I can connect to work and run apps from Citrix while talking on the phone, SVDO for the win! Now I'm ready for the next time I lose cable at home and I need to work.
Installed the Wifi Tether and installed using zrmxp95's directions. I can connect to the network with my ipad, however the phone only only recieves about 4kb of data and then the webpage never loads. I can hit refresh on the ipad, and it will load another 4kb and do the same thing.

PEAP Wifi

Anyone have luck connecting to a PEAP AP with credentials, I tried some apps that don't seem to work? I can't connect at my University.
Photon Q
I haven't been able to join my work's network with the photon q either. Someone in my thread suggested "explicitly trusting" the certificate but I haven't had the chance to see if the network team is competent enough to do that.
Other people at work also have other motorola phones with ICS so I'll ask them if they can connect. I haven't seen any other devices struggle like the photon q. It just constantly says connecting and then giving up. I can manually set everything correctly and it doesn't matter, if I don't manually create the profile it never asks for the rest of the information.
I'm really at a loss but if sprint's LTE announcements hold true in a couple weeks it may not even matter (assuming an LTE signal is even remotely discoverable).
same for me, I'm just hoping for an JB update soon(yeah right) cause LTE will never be here, but we don't even have wimax. thanks

I know... I do miss my evo shift's wimax, sometimes my work network was so crappy that I'd just wirelessly tether to my phone and got much better speeds.
Interesting that you noted JB. Is the general consensus that Motorola is rather slow about releasing OS updates? My co-worker with the Droid 4 just got ICS a few weeks ago while the Galaxy Nexus has been starting to get JB on sprint.
Successful connect to EAP
Well, my university has 802.1x EAP for wifi encryption. I was unable to connect from my Photon Q using the wifi settings. I have, however, found a workaround. It consists of using this app "WiFi Connection Manager" (Sorry I can't post the link)
I added the network manually through this app, and my phone connects to the network automatically.
Ill write down the steps for my University's network:
1) Click on the app "WiFi Manager"
2) Click on the menu button inside the app
3) "Manual Add Network"
4)Put in the credentials
5) Click Add
6) the phone should connect to the Enterprise network now.
Hopefully it works for everyone who needs it.

I'll have to give this a shot when I go to work tomorrow, I had the network director fiddling with my phone for a while and checking the AP manager and they just weren't talking properly. We loaded our certificate onto the phone as well and that had no effect.
EDIT: IT WORKED. Oddly enough the APs showed up as WPA/WPA2 PSK in the program, but when I manually created the profile with the settings that I know are correct it did eventually connect and work.
good work guys, my univeristy just switched over to peap and this thread helped.
Thanks, guys. Once I had gotten my Photon Q back in late September, I was able to connect to my Universities' wi-fi, although it was kind of a pain because I had to delete and re-create the network profile a few times before it would work. A few weeks ago, though, we had a security certificate expire, and so for the past three weeks I've been unable to connect to our wi-fi. Using the WiFi Connection Manager to manually create the profile worked like a charm though!
In case people are curious, our Universities wi-fi is 802.1X EAP/PEAP using MSCHAPv2 as Phase 2 authentication.

Thanks for this thread, and thanks for this post. I had the same thing happen. My work wifi showed WPA/WPA2, ect., and I could not enter my credentials. We also have an open wifi, which the program kept logging into automatically, but it doesn't work for me because it doesn't allow ssl. So, I had to delete the open network, go to the settings to filter the scan to ignore open networks, then add the secure network manually with all the credentials entered. Then it worked.

TF300T Tethering Hell: USB, WiFi, Take your pick...

Hey guys If I am in the wrong place, please let me know. I got my TF300T just a little while ago and am now trying to use it as a my main computer. That requires me to able to connect to the net on it. It works just fine when I am connected to a regular WiFi network. However, I have no Internet connection at home except for my Sprint Motorola Photon Q, which I had been using tethered over USB to my PC to get the PC online. That worked fine. But this past month, I lost my job and needed to sell the PC, so all I have left is the TF300T. I was sure it'd work fine since I got BT tethering to work fine in the past with that phone. However, I was just experimenting at that point. Now, I see it's a little more ... complicated:
I set my Photon Q to act as a WiFi hotspot using PDANet+ a.k.a. FoxFi. Creating a WiFi hotspot, I can see it on the TF300T. Whether I enter the right PSK2 key or don't use encryption at all, connecting is impossible. It will "Authenticate...." after a minute or so and then try to get an IP via DHCP. Then it will "work" a long time and then drop the connection and try again. This is with the phone an inch away. I found it had a lot of trouble just getting an IP, so I tried setting it up with a static IP. I found out that PDAnet+ seems to default to 192.168.43.111 and the gateway is presumably 192.168.43.1. I tried some other things like .100 without luck. It WILL connect but the WiFi strength indicator in the bar stays gray. It shows up and down arrows as though there's activity, and Excellent strength, but won't actually work in any apps, incl. the default Android browser. Also tried pinging the host phone using the terminal only to get Destination Host Unreachable errors.
I then tried Bluetooth tethering. It will connect and works at a decent rate. But, the only programs that work are web browsers! IM clients, Skype, Google Play, Maps, Gmail, nothing else can connect. Android is convinced I am not online at all, yet I can browse web pages at full speed, which I am doing right now. IIRC PdaNet uses some bizarro proxy setup but they tell you on their site to "configure the proxy settings" and give you none of the details like IP or port! How useful. So, this does me little good. It's horribly crippled.
I tried numerous other WiFi tether apps, most of which hard crash the Photon Q so it reboots entirely the moment it turns on the hotspot. Barnacle and one of the WiFi tether apps (1-click? I've tried so many I can barely remember...) will launch, I can see it on the TF300T, but when I try to connect it says "ANDROIDTETHER or whatever the SSID is, Saved". No matter how many times you choose Connect or Forget, then Connect again, nothing. Gets stuck at "Saved."
I'd try connecting the phone via USB via the TF300T dock but I have searched heavily and cannot find any way to do it. Do I have any options at all?
Thank you for any info.
Hi
I'm tethering Internet from my SGS 1 with 4.2.2 rom with no problem at all. I think you have problem with wifi settings.
Try to set both phone and tab wifi to correct region. If you have phone set to USA and tab to Europe it won't work. You'll find it under Wireless-advanced if you have customised roms, for stock I don't know how to set it. Haven't have stock roms for ages.
About proxy, basic proxy settings in Android works only for browser, so you will need something like proxydroid on your client. I'm using it and for me it is working. For settings, check your phone settings-mobile networks-access points and copy them from there, or call your ISP and ask them for settings.
Hope this helps.
WiFi tether for root users. Is the best thing ever. If you aren't rooted. Root your phone. Also, is there a cm ROM available for your phone? If so, switch. Then use it's default tethering. Your phone is definitely the culprit here.

Unfortunately no CM ROM exists for that phone. It is rooted. I tried wifi tether for root-- played with all the settings.... it will turn on and the SSID shows up on the TF300T .. but if you try to connect it just says "Saved." Even though it also says Signal quality is "Excellent"...

Great suggestions guys! I seem to be making some progress. I can now "connect" and get an IP, but the "wifi signal" bar thingy in the lower-right stays gray, not blue like it usually is when on working WiFi, and apps still cannot get to the net, which I assume is what the gray means (network connection but no internet connection). I will have to go down the list and try every possible configuation, I suppose. Yikes! I'll keep at it...

Certain Websites work on 3g but not on wifi?

Hi All,
I am new to these forums and to android, but have searched this fault no end, and have still not been able to solve this fault. So am looking for some help and advice.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 sim free on uk 3 network and started to notice that a lot of links I was clicking from twitter etc were not loading, or I would just get a page not found message like the ones you get when there is a genuine incorrect link posted, an example of this was links from Forbes website.
I then noticed though, if I switch wifi off and it connects to cellular data the same links work first time?
The strange this is on wifi, all my apps etc update fine, and even if I open up samsung browser and go to lots of sites, they all work, it is just a few that dont.
One I definitely know that doesnt work is newsnow co uk whenever I am on wifi and try to connect it says page cannot be displayed, but works on 3g
Some sites I have read say it is linked to proxy settings?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your wifi dns settings. Could be your device, router, or isp. If you can connect to those sites using a laptop or computer on the same wifi then it is the device settings. You might want to check out setDNS in the Play Store.

Yeah I can access using my wifes phone and laptops etc

Thanks
Is setDNS for rooted phones? Mine is not rooted
I have the same issue. And I don't think is a problem with router or modem. Definitely a phones problem. It happens at home and at my work.
And it's temporary. If you disable wifi and turn it on again it works.
