I came from the droid incredible and with an edit to the services.jar file you could remove the throttling of your data once you reached your 5gb. Now that we have a temp root situation could we apply the same principle to this phone? I'm sure T-Mobile doesn't throttle each connection individually. It has to be software related.
This sounds interesting. I don't generally pass the 5gb, but not having to worry would be great.
Do you have the part that was modded before? Maybe somebody can get an idea from that.

Does Verizon really throttle on the phone side? Seems quite unreliable and insane to me.
I, of course, can't say for sure but I think it is pretty likely that T-Mobile US throttles data connections serverside, that is the only way for the carrier to achieve reliable slowdown of cell data.
On an unrelated note, just to make you guys envious: I used up 7 GB of cell data last month

Nope. Its software based. It'd take so much work to track me invidually while I constantly changed towers etc that all it does is change a little setting from unlimited to throttled once your phone reaches its own peak. They have a throttle remover to the G2X and G2 and the Vibrant so I know it can be done. It can be done by simply using root explorer to copy the modified services.jar over your existing upon reboot and reroot. The Services.jar is phone specific so I can't just copy any old one someone would need to mod the sensations.

the throttle removal for g2x has been patched, if it ever worked. ( I never tried)

Over on the mytouch 4g forums they have a service.jar mod. I can confirm it worked until I rebooted, then once my sim connected to the network again I was throttled... why idk others didn't I did, so it either works or don't work. But I do know over there they said to do it in recovery and mount system and adb push the modified service.jar into /system/framework/. And since we don't have a recovery I think its not possible yet. But I could be wrong.

Not to revive an old thread but I hit my 5gb cap and since we DO have root and custom recoveries and full access to the phone is there anyone working on this or does anyone know a workaround?
From what I know and working for a cell phone company...(at&t).for example in our company we also throttle the speed once 5GB mark hits....the billing system adds special SOC (service order code) and applies it to your account through the billing system... which is where it shows all your services and features .....(rate plans.....features...(data...messaging...ringback tones../etc...)...so my theory here would be that the throttle is not software based on your phone because I'm pretty sure that if anyone in here thinks they can actually remove a throttle code off the billing system through phones internal software would be a ridiculous thought....is anyone in here saying that they can remove a messaging..or data feature through software and manipulate the billing system of a cell company...from a cell phone registry???? I would love to see a demo of that if its possible for at&t? Since i guess tmobile seems to work a little diffdrent? Someone please enlighten me..???

Throttling is handled on their end. No way to modify it.

Not of 4g and if it was, it won't do it every month. Nobody has a grandfathered truly unlimited 4g. I used 24GB one month, guess what, that was one time.

I don't have exact answers per se, but as an AT&T Mobility employee I have some advice and some warnings.
Advice: It would be much better to get a "4G" SIM instead of the GoPhone one, just in case this causes any issues.
When you go activate the SIM, take another, non-smartphone, phone with you and say that that's what you will use. We will put the non-smartphone IMEI in the system and it will allow you to get the $50 unlimited talk, text, and web.
Once you have the "4G" SIM activated, and the non-smartphone IMEI registered, put the SIM in the Inspire. Now, the seemingly difficult part.
Warning: You MUST find the APN settings for our feature phones somewhere, if you can't, I will try to find them for you. The reasoning behind this is that more then likely the "web" included on the $50 package is only one the feature phone APN, instead of the smartphone one.
Secondly, don't be surprised if one day you stop having internet connectivity. As we do with our postpaid customers, we also have a system for prepaid that sweeps every IMEI used and applies (or in your case, removes) the appropriate data packages.
I know that our prepaid data packages are a ripoff, but this is one way to do it, if only temporarily.
P.S. Where did you hear it would only be EDGE? That seems incorrect to me.

Look up H2O its a prepaid service that uses at&t towers and band so you don't have to unlock the phone and its 60$ a month for unlimited talk text and web

So if I am understanding this right, the phone must be rooted, and the APN needs to be changed to reflect a featured phone data plan instead of the smartphone data plan that the droid is expecting to use. Along with using a 4G simcard, that should be it right? The apn settings are all over the internet, i just read them, its like wap.cingular.com or something, but whats this sweeping system you speak of, does it compare the sim card over the air to the imei its 'registered with' opposed to the imei of the phone its installed in?

It will work just fine stock. I have been running prepaid for awhile now and have not had a single issue. The apns will set on their own to the proper ones once you insert your similar card.
And they are right att dies sweep the IMEI but it doesn't matter as I gave reps my IMEI when I got the inspire and swapped my account from my old captivate. Also I font use a data plan as I am normally around wifi at all times. The only backdraw is if you have less then $5 on your account the data won't connect. ATT can't stop you from having any phone you want on prepaid. They tried with the IPhone and a lawsuite ended that.

Except, data speeds are kinda slow and the "Unlimited Data" on the $60/Mo plan is actually capped at 3GB..
so what happens after you reach the "cap"

Im actually using an Inspire via GoPhone. I have been for a few months. I just went to a local att store and simply bought a simcard, some airtime, and activated that sim card, popped it in and voila! I dont recommend buying a cheap GoPhone and using the sim out of that because recently, att decide to start locking the sim that comes with that phone to that specific phone. I made that mistake the first time and found it out the hard way.
I only have the $25/mo plan and i buy a $25 data package when needed. I dont use a lot of data, since I have wifi available most of the time.

*Sprint phones work any CDMA provider in US
*But everything won't work on other providers, like mms, voice, data, etc
Unless you switch to T-Mobile or AT&T, which will allow you to use both of their networks, since they're merging soon. To increase data speeds, there are build.prop tweaks that can help, if you upload the evo's I can take a look at it.
Has this gone anywhere?
Has this project gone anywhere? It would be a really awesome thing to be able to do this with Sprint having it's unlimited data and unlimited data roaming while give spotty 4G support to boot. I am in Chattanooga, TN and Sprint does not offer 4g here so it would be amazing to be able to use the Verizon 4g. I am a "Noob" at Android but am a computer programmer by profession - i just need to be pointed in the right direction. As the above mentioned "build.prop" file it wont let me post the file on here (as i am a noob). What should I look for in the file? Is there a tag that can switch carriers for different services? I am currently running an Evo 4g (thunderbolt) with Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 build GWK74. I am more then willing to change roms if there is one out there with this capability but through a lot of searching i have found nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't need it often, so can't justify the monthly cost. This will really help in those few instances where I need it. I had no problem with the app store.

They're already throttling heavy users, now they want us to pay more for the privilege? Screw that. It's my data, I pay for, and get my allotment each month to use as I damn well please.

It seems T-Mobile has cracked down on tethering these last few days. Mine stopped working during a download (I get the T-Mobile splash screen now), my roommate, who has a My Touch 4G running CM7, had his stop working yesterday.
I've gotten the same results from a couple other T-Mobile users. What a pain, it should be a crime having them charge us for the ability to use the bandwidth that we already pay for.
if you have the 5gb $25 data plan you get hotspot included, just call them up and tell them you want the 5gb hotspot promotion... unless you are on a cheaper plan of course.
Thanks, this worked great!
I'm on the Sensation, I had installed apn manager and found that there was a hidden apn named tmobile tether and instead of epc.tmobile.com it had pcweb.tmobile.com instead. One of our chefs has since then erased this hidden apn and all is well.
