I am seeking the help/advice of the many knowledgeable members of XDA to help me understand and hopefully resolve an issue that I'm having with my rooted HTC Dream. The issue is with mms, I don't seem to be able to send or receive. I've only tried send/receive pics. I don't believe that it is a rooting problem so much as an unlocking issue since my son's unlocked/unrooted Dream has the same issue. The phones are both Rogers branded unlocked and both on Telus network. I have checked double checked & triple checked the APN settings and all appear to be correct. I also have no problem with web browsing. Any assistance in understanding/resolving this issue will be appreciated.

The last time I received a text or sent one successfully was Friday evening. I didn't notice the issue until today. When I send a text it says that it was sent but it isn't received on the other end. Same thing when texts are sent to me. I was on CM7 RC4. I've tried the final release and I've tried reflashing RC4. Nothing seems to solve the issue. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm on a company plan with unlimited texts if that is important.

Try going into Settings>wireless & Networks>Mobile networks>Access Point Names>menu>reset to default
I've had luck in the past doing those steps when unable to send MMS or SMS. That will reset all your network settings that might have gotten mixed up or corrupted while flashing ROMs.
Thanks for the reply but didn't work. I also noticed that if I try to send a MMS it just sits on sending.

Try a reboot after you reset the defaults. You might have to do it more than once for it to take.
Tried it 4 times with a reboot after each one. Still not working. Its just strange because it doesn't error or anything. It acts like it sends it but it never gets received.

Hmmm...then in might actually be something on AT&T's end. They may need to reset it from their end. You could try a different ROM and see if it changes?

Thanks for your help but that didn't work either. It actually took my mobile data away. I'm gonna try a stock rom tomorrow and if that doesn't do it I will talk to our IT department. Thanks again for your help.

Well, I flashed Cognition since it was from Inspire base and that didn't help either. It has to be something on AT&Ts end. Waiting to hear back from my IT department since it is a work phone.
This happened to me when I changed to the 4g data plan; At&t deleted my sms plan and blocked sms services. A relatively short call got stuff back online quickly.
FWIW: The woman I spoke with said that this was a known problem with the system.

I think this is kind of what I am experiencing. My problem is that this is a work phone so I can't call AT&T about it. My IT department says there is no "4G" plan to select for my account. I still can't use the default APN that comes with the phone to get data. I have to manually create one to use mobile data.
Just wanted to post that this was resolved. For some reason AT&T still had my Captivate listed on my profile. I guess they just caught it and started turning off my services.( I lost mobile data today) IT department got it sorted out and everything is working again.
Does anyone else get mobile network drops where you have to disable and re-enable "mobile network" to get a connection back?
One way I have found to reproduce this is to go to a web browser (I use Dolphin), then go back to the desktop to start the camera. Then hold the home key (to bring up the last programs) and go back to the browser and you will find that if you click on any links you won't get anywhere. I have also found that doing a search in Google maps usually doesn't work as the data connection isn't there. Again, turning off and on the "mobile network" and then restarting maps will get it working.
Apart from this the phone seems to mostly work fine.
Anyone experience this? I'm hoping it is software and not hardware.

There are quite a few people experiencing this. There are a few threads dedicated to it already, both here and in T-Mobile and HTC's forums.
Some have been told it's a software issue, some have been told it's in T-Mobile's network. So far there doesn't seem to be a fix.

Toggling cyphering isn't going to fix anything for most people. It definitely didn't help me. The other two items could be applicable if the scenario is right, but I'm afraid the root issue is much bigger.
The problem I was experiencing wasn't the one mentioned in those threads. My phone is a UK model and those threads seem to be based on US phones and carriers.
I eventually factory reset the phone and wiped the sim card contacts for good measure and the problem has gone away. Hope this info helps someone else.

Hi all,
I have noticed that I have not been able to send or receive pictures through text. I am on rogers in Canada. In talking to a few rogers users, they have noticed the same thing. My friends on telus don't have issues, except when they send me a picture.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Heeter

Have you tried using WiFi instead of data of vice versa? Also, check if your APN settings are correct for your Rogers connection are correct under System Settings > More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names (APNs)

There's already an issue filed for that problem to the Android development:

Please star the issue to express your need for a fix - you will also find some work-around tipps.

Awesome, thanks, I did star it too.
My Telus friends are Iphones & Android 2.2.1, 2.3.6 respectively, so no issue there.
What is the APN settings for rogers supposed to be? I got "rogers-core-appl1-apn"
Thanks again,

Hey guys, I just got an HTC One S (t-mobile version but unlocked) and I started using it on Mobilicity. The calling and texting work fine but for some reason the data is not. I have tried restarting the mobile network but that hasn't helped. I have read about a similar problem someone had but one of the possible solutions was something about an APN setting which I have no idea about (sorry I'm new here ). Can anyone help?
try this thread, it might help you

You need the correct APN settings for data to work.
Follow the above thread for settings for your carrier.
That helped alot, it seems to be working fine now, thanks a lot.
Looking for some help, please.
I have a T-Mobile G2x P999, unlocked. I am using it with a Straight Talk AT&T sim card.
Running on stock, I have no issues with data connectivity.
However, I have been unable to obtain data connectivity with any Custom ROMS. I have tried a few (including Genesis). I am currently using the Paranoid Android P999 CM9 ROM. Except for the data connectivity issues, I am really liking the ROM.
I have the ability to make calls and send texts. But when I look under Phone Status, it says "Unknown" phone number, etc.
I have tried adjusting APN settings, as well.
I have searched forums high and low both here and on other sites, with no luck. I apologize if I have repeated someone's question, but if it is out there, I missed it.
Does anyone have any ideas? I appreciate any help you can provide.
