I'm officially sick and tired of receiving all of my MMS messages in the form of a slideshow. This occurs in both the stock messaging program and even in the latest versions of HandcentSMS. Is there a way to get rid of this "feature"? I haven't found any settings or options that allow you to receive pictures as single messages.
Don't all phones handle MMS as a slideshow?
No, not all smart phones automatically make multiple attachments a slide show.
I actually wouldn't complain if you could do anything useful with the slide show, but it is completely unusable.
Honestly, I much prefer the iPhone's MMS style that popped each MMS message up separately. And please, don't give me the stop whining and buy an iPhone instead crap. I love the Captivate and specifically ditched the iPhone for it. That doesn't mean that the iOS method of handling MMS messages isn't preferable to some people.
Handcent SMS. Handles MMS superbly.
And it's free.

As I said in the OP, I use HandcentSMS and it still displays MMS messages as slide shows.
I asked this question weeks ago on here and in the android general and got now where. Seems this is the way its ment to play. Even a single file will have the play\pause button. Between stock and handcent its the same

Oh, you're talking about when you open the MMS in Handcent. I was referring to the popup notification, which has a "View MMS" button on it, and when pressed, shows the multipart MMS as a single message (in my case, a single URL and a scaled-down image from my security camera).
EDIT: Actually, even when I open an MMS in Handcent, I still see them as single threaded messages, much like SMS. See screenshot.

This is from stock message app. Had to crop to remove number but ad u can see has.play icon. There are 2 pics in message. Has a.5 sec delay in playing each file. This is a set of pics i sent

Ahh. I'm only receiving single image MMSes, so maybe that's why. But the stock Messaging app still shows the play/pause slideshow, even for those that just show a single message in Handcent. I guess it depends on what you're receiving maybe?
Im not at all comparing it to iohone but i sent that message to my wife. And on her screen it has two seperate pics. When i sent meassage i didn't click send as slide i just added one pic then attached another. She has my old 3gs iphone. Would rather my phone display the pics more like iphone style.
Im the only one in my area with the captivate i know of so i can't test to see if this is just some setting i dobt know of

Thanks so much! Changing from Default style slide show to FlatStyle slide show makes much better. You still can't select single pictures, can't zoom, and can't save individual pictures without returning to the full conversation; but this is still a lot better than being unable to control the slide show settings

Have you removed the stock messaging program from your Captivate? I feel like this may have something to do with being unable to change the stock slide show settings.

I really like how iPhone has big photo and this on this link looks almost better, can we have this on our rooted X10 ? It would look much better when we can use more of our big screen for this.

Seriously, I think the way the X10 does the visual caller ID is great.
It's different and looks more modern.

Ya !! I like it the way it is on x10. I hate everything on the iphone though !!
I like the way X10 does it.. sorry buddy, you're not getting much support for this one!
I dont want it to be like iPhone but I want only to get fullscreen photo with ANSWER REJECT buttons, a lot of phones have that and X10 shows only half screen.
On my X10 mini, i get a tiny little thumbnail, where should i complain??

is Fullscreen Caller ID photo support X10?
no, you will see the fullscreen picture you set for a fraction of a second before Sony's caller (half screen) comes up. This will still not work for the X10, I am looking for such a app as well, but sofar no luck, the default Sony caller is made well and don't let another application overrule it unfortunately.

Correction:
I just found out in the settings, tick option call display low rez contact pic and it will show your contact pics already in the phone. But low resolution doesn't look nice. Ie. need to do all from application to see good quality pic.

I think X10 picture ID design looks more unique and nicer but there sure is a lot of lag. When I receive a call, before the caller's picture is displayed, I can see the picture of the last person in call log gets displayed like for a second or two. I hope this gets fixed in 2.1 update. I'd rather not have any picture displayed during the lag time than see wrong picture displayed.
I don't know why it works for some one and for some others it don't. Like I said, for me it is not working on calls, but works great on incoming SMS texts.
When someone calls I see the full screen caller ID for a fraction of a second. I use the latest version, which I downloaded from the net as I don't want to pay for apps which don't work on my phone. For me it is not working so I delete it from my phone again and try again with their next release....again...someday it should be working you might think
Its work 100%

Does not have Facebook Pictures syncing. None of my contacts have pictures. I'd really like to use this APP, but that's a huge deal breaker for me until it is fixed.
That's a limitation of Android. Install photo unlocker from the market and it will fix the issue.

its cool app.

Those contact pictures are from japanese pornz. lol
This looks promising.
It is a cool app to filter through contacts quickly
But then if I select one contact from the main list, I get the detailed view from the stock application.
Is this how the app is supposed to behave or do I have to change some settings?
By the way, after installation the app changes name from go contacts to go dialer
Another excellent app from GO team. I searched for a good contacts app alternative and I think I will stick with this. One important think missing only: support of other language letters in dialer. I'm interested for greek alphabet. If you plan to support this future, these are the letters:
Code:
--- ΑΒΓ ΔΕΖ
ΗΘΙ ΚΛΜ ΝΞΟ
ΠΡΣ ΤΥΦ ΧΨΩ
And if you plan to support localization, I can make the greek translation too.
Just let me know.
This app drains battery. I have been tracking it's behaviour for several hours via Watchdog Task Manager (refresh every minute) and it reported Go Contacts every 5-15 minutes. CPU usage was usually around 5-6%. Why is it running in the background in sleep mode?
Secondly, there is a bug with Go Dialer - sometimes (very, very often) clicking on the shortcut on the homescreen doesn't activate dialer. It's just not responding to touch. Then I have to re-add it to start working again. One more thing - the default icons are really ugly - it feels almost like iPhone, which is an awful thing for me. Uninstalled, but I'll keep watching the development.
im really liking this app....anyway to integrate Gosms into this?...that would be awsome!
This app is simple but useful for people that heavily use full screen apps (games/browsers/ect). It gives a nice little notification that shows the text message/email you just received, allowing you to decide if it's worth quitting your app to reply to it (see picture), even if you're in another app! You can turn the notifications on and off via the main screen. The best part of it is you can play and the notification will not interfere with your touch on the game. It might also have the simplest options menu.
FEATURE LIST:
Works with third party SMS applications
Now supports K9 Mail (requires K9 Mail for functionality)
Shows the sender (name from contacts list or number if contact doesn't exist)
Shows the sender and contents of the message
Low profile
Doesn't interfere with the touch interface of whatever task you are doing
Easy to turn on or off just by the touch of a checkbox
Lightweight
No more quitting Angry Birds just to see that someone texted you "lol"
Works in portrait and landscape orientations
Permissions explained:
Read SMS: So that it can read the text to show you
Read contacts: so that it can see if anyone in your contacts shares the same number and the text sender
Please report any bugs to me.
P.S. I know this is a VERY simplistic app and may seem pointless. If you feel that way that is fine, however I have had a lot of people that laughed at it originally tell me they can't use any full screen app without and they never turn it off. So I simply ask you give constructive criticism. Thank you!

Crazy, I was literally just thinking it would be cool to have something exactly like this on my SGS2 when I was playing Star Diamonds Capture... it's an online multiplayer game that you can't really back out of unless you want to risk losing the match, but I always want to make sure I'm not ignoring an important text.

Hey group!
I posted this topic several days back on the general forums and got no response. I have the standard whistle notification as my text message notification and it doesnt always complete the full whistle. Has anyone else experienced this at all? t is very odd because sometimes it will perfrom the whistle all the way as it should but most of the time it is cut short one way or another. I wasnt sure if I was the only one this was happening to or not, and if someone might have an idea what may be going on with this.
Thanks in advance for the assistance!
You're not the only one. I had it happen but since I loaded beans I haven't heard my notification get cut short.
Somebody posted a specific fix for this back a little bit.
I didn't save the info as I've never had the problem (I use a really really long tone to make sure I hear it in a noisy work environment & it always plays it 100%), but if you search enough you should find the fix posted. I actually doubled the length of the tone I use with an audio editing program.
I use Handcent for texting, but I have no idea if this has anything to do with mine working correctly.
This happens with certain contacts because when you receive 200 messages its by default set to delete a message automatically to have room for the new ones coming in..(this is why your not seeing this happen all the time it's only happening with people you frequently message) So when the message comes in the sound cuts off because it's deleting a message and that seems to be interfering with it.. If you delete the thread of the person that's messaging you when this happens,it shouldn't happen anymore... It's an annoying bug.. Also you can go into your default messaging app and Press menu-settings and increase the text message limit..or uncheck delete old messages.. This should help

+1 ... I figured this out for myself after I went to Verizon and got a warranty replacement. They really need to fix this, it does get annoying after awhile. Either erase your messages or raise the message limit.

Do you even need a message limit at all on this phone?
I realize that it comes already set to 200, but is the limit even necessary on such a powerful device?
On my old Droid Incredible, I would let my message box get really full, with individual threads reaching into the thousands. Also the Droid Incredible had a problem where it would take forever to delete text messages. Sometimes it would take a couple hours of the phone being locked up, just to delete a couple hundred. It was then that I realized I needed to put a limit on them. This phone doesn't seem to have the same problem. It deletes threads pretty fast, and with all the extra ram and processing speed I feel like opening the messaging app, even if it had a couple thousand messages, wouldn't be a big deal.

The max amount of texts in one thread is 5000. But I guess for most people that would take them through a few months without having to worry about erasing their msgs to hear the ring tone.

You do not need tasker to run this app.
I have provided a .apk file that can be installed if you enable the option "Install From Unknown Source" in system settings.
.xml
I have also provided the project's .xml which can be imported into Tasker and used through Tasker, just as it would in app form.
Once imported, the project is able to be edited and customized to your needs.
By all means, make any modifications you like, BUT if you do many any edits and post it publicly, please refer back to this thread, site it appropriately and give me credit for what i have created.
How to import.
Known Bugs
*When using the "Press Enter to send" option, a new line is shown when enter is pressed, though the blank line is not actually sent in the message.*
*When two texts are received within half a second, the second text may not display correctly.*
*Screens with different resolution/dpi/size will cause the popup to have a different size/location.*
It can only handle texts from up to 5 different people.
*Only able to scroll down through text in the center of popup (sides are reserved for swiping through texts)*
Compose window displays differently on full screen.
Importing the .xml project into tasker is borked for some people.
*Cannot be fixed at the moment due to Tasker limitations*

I hope you'll be able to make this into a standard application. On one phone it's fine but on the other it's stretched and overlapped etc.
Keep up the great work!

HTC ChaCha / Status. CM10.1 The screen is 480x320.
I guess if I had tasker I could build it for my phone or something?

Haha wow that's bad, I guess since the screen res is so small.
Edit: and it looks like that phone has a default landscape display..
I'll probably have to make multiple versions or find a way to detect screen size in Tasker.
But yes you could edit the app in Tasker.
This might not be ready for multiple devices then maybe I should move this to the app development forum :/

It's labeled as beta. It should be fine here.
That's why making this into an app that's not associated / created with tasker would be amazing. Of course that is a lot of work

Thanks,
and yes i believe this app has a lot of potential, i simply lack the knowledge and skill to make it properly
EDIT: i figured a way to get the screen size!
So now I have to figure out how to dynamically adjust the scenes accordingly...
but its possible

Reply works for me. The reply box pops up when you tap on the message.

My s4 has a weird bug that makes talkback always on when using any accessibility apps. Is there any way to use this without the accesabilities? Also it doesn't mark the sms as read after a reply other than that an outstanding idea and keep up the fantastic work!

All the accessibility does is make sure the Compose window appears/disappears correctly.
If u don't enable accessibility it will still work, just might be a bit wonky haha
And last time I checked I can't mark messages as read because of Tasker limitations, but I'll look into it again.
Thanks!

It'd be nice if I could see that tutorial again. Also, the font is scaling depending on the length of the message, which makes it go from a book for the blind size to microscopic.
