[Q] WM 6.5 - custom sms message tone for each contact? - General Questions and Answers

hey everyone, was wondering if there was an option in WM6.5 for having a custom message tone for each contact, just like you can have a custom ringtone for each. i have an I8000 omnia2 if it matters. this option was available on my S8000 jet (pic attached below), but i don't see any option for it on the omnia2 (using the samsung phonebook). i'm running the JE2 rom if that matters also.
if there's no option within the stock rom, are there any custom programs or anything that can allow something like this?
i've tried searching this subject but generic terms like "messaging" and "tones" and such don't really yield any relevant results.
any help/suggestions are appreciated.
thanks!

MMS and camera problems with WM6 crossbow

i installed the wm6 crossbow rom on my MDA today and configured it as much as i could with 2 problems left.
1.i want to configure my Tmobile MMS but there is no option for it. When i click messaging the only options i have are Text messages and my email. when i click menu there is nothing that says MMS configuration like all these intructuons are telling me im supposed to see.
2. i cant seem to assign my camera button to actualy open the camera and snap a picture with it. in the assign buttons program there is no camera option.
anyone have a solution to either of these?
If you use the most beautiful rom, you won't have these problems.
It's my personal favorite, after trying pdaviet and the vanilla version (never tried the underground version).
id love to but all im seeing is a rom that says its based on a wm5 rom that is customized. unless maybe i am looking in the right direction and dont realize it? could this be the rom im looking for cuz im not looking for a customized ver. of wm5. is this the right rom?
solution
I did post a solution.

If you are referring to Most Beautiful Edition, it is a WM6 ROM and from what I understand based on the Orwell one. Its not just a customized WM5.
Faria is supposed to be releasing a WM6 ROM in a few days. Also a new Underground is due.
As for your issues, if you check the Underground threads, MMS and Camera has been discussed.
i use .5 Underground have camara fix and MMS composer in Program -> Install folder

Disable SMS Threading?

Hello, I did a few searches and found 1 good thread that contained a .cab file which is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395766
I have an at&t branded htc fuze.. will this file be able to disable sms threading? I want the old style sms inbox.. not the chat
thanks for the help
i also found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424133
im guessing the cab file from the above link does this?
just use the advanced config program.. theres an option for it there..
o? im gonna get the phone later this week.. will the option be there with the current OS thats built into it upon being sold at at&t? or would i have to use a cooked rom?
as londer2dend said, find and install advanced config and you will be able to switch msg viewing style... the default for wm6.1 is threaded though..

Leaked AT&T ROM vs the newest AT&T FUZE ROM 5.11.502

which one performs the best, im currently running the leaked ROM but i wanted to try out the newest 5.11.502 ROM, but i heard some people dont like it at all even with the Ringtone limit, and is the radio better than the one on the leaked ROM? plz help me out here, i dont wanna start over and configuring everything again. thnx
the ringtone limit is changeable. try browsing around on this forum, I believe I left the specific location of the key change.
apart from that, my experience witht he official rom is that my gps is lighting fast, and my battery life is freaking amazing. I am having issues with the sms and mms not being marked as read when I reply to someone.. i have to manually click through them.. that's my main concern. that and it's somehow incompatible with my most favorite theme... showaco's bbextreme 4.0

And I posted a fix for that in the ROM thread. There's also the cab in there for the no Ringtone Limit. I'll see if I can gather them into this post.
EDIT:
DKNoRingtoneLimit.cab
T-Back SMS Unread Fix.cab
in terms of the no ringtone limit, i figured i just have to go in and do the adjusting myself rather than have a cab since i probably wont uninstall it at all....
also the unread cab.. what did you do exactley? was it a htmlnote.dll change?

That's exactly what I did. I took the htmlnote.dll from the original stock AT&T ROM, and cabbed it up.
Also, as far as the ringtone thing, all you have to do is delete the reg key, and then, no limit
haha, fair enough, I never thought of deleting the actual key....
I'm going to have to back up my stuff this time... before i do the htmlnote change... I had to hard reset last time QQ
hey, i am new to these kind of fixes could you be a little more specific about how to use these things?

Contact Manger with fingerfriendly option to edit contacts

Hey guys!
i got a little question about contact managers. if already tried a couple managers (like icontact, pocketcm) but in none of them i was able to find a way to edit my contacts more fingerfriendly. as soon as i wanted to edit a contact (new number, email, whatever) or create a new one i always had to use the standard windows mobile interface which sucks in my eyes.
so my questions:
is there a manager thats has a better gui to edit contacts? if yes which one?
do icontact, pocketcm already provide that option and i just didnt saw ít?
please help me and give me advice how you manage this "problem"
i hope i posted in the right forum otherwise please move it to the right section.
thx
cya notarzt
Try O3Touch
http://www.o3touch.com/
I don't need the stylus at all with it.
Moved as not software release....

PocketCM does it. For new contact, edit contact, etc... the only thing that is still "windows mobile" is contact picture selection.
hey!
@stylez: thanks for moving. wasnt shure which section is correct.
@claus: thx ill try it and give a freedback
@tene: which version are you using? any specific theme plugin or whatever? because in my version it dosnt work.
edit: @tene: yeah youre right the version i installed couple minutes ago offers that option but i got all sorts of problems with the themes of it and with the keyboard on my 6.5 rom. maybe ill have to try a different keyboard and check whether that will help. or maybe it does not work properly on wm6.5
@claus: well the function is good but the view is a little ugly...

Best way to change sms tone and ringtone ?

What has everyone been doing for changing sms tone and ringtone? Ive downloaded ringtones to my phone with a free ringtone app but i cant load them.
I also remember a while back the only way to change an sms tone with switching one of the origional .wav file to a new one of your choice. Has this changed? Is it possible to add custom tones now?

Hello Floods7
I downloaded some free ringtones using "Free Ringtones" app, the one that has white chroma on blue background (don't know if it's the same
you used).
I was looking for "Yes - Roundabout" and find it. I clicked on the download button and the app went into the "Downloading page".
At the end, I slide to "MyDownload" and I found it there. I clicked on the floppy icon (Save) and finally the app saved the ringtone
in the list you find in Settings menu.
Or you can add a ringtone zia Zune, following this short tutorial:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-gb/howto/wp7/start/create-ringtones.aspx.
About adding new sms tones (or email, or other kind of alert), you can use the app wrote before to find them.
But if you want to use them, you could try this way:
to have an unlocked device
deploy "advanced config" into your phone (last version will install inside Settings menu, last position)
go to Sounds
choose your favourite tone (don't worry if Advanced config returns an error)
Unfortunately, you will not find their name, i.e. Yes-Roundabout, but a long number (can't know why......): don't try to rename them.
I tried it using TouchXplorer, but neither Advanced config nor usual Settings menu voice could find them!?!?!
Don't know if it's related to the fact that they're mp3... wp's mystery
Easiest way to do this is with Get Advanced Config for your phone This will allow you to change ANY tone on your windows phone 7. =D
To add ringtones you just need Zune and this handy guide
Hope this helps
Uhm... Today it didn't functioned... When I chose with advanced config the "new" sms tone, hothing happened when sms arrived...
And in Settings menu I could only find no sms tone chosen... Maybe I'm missing some other step (changing something in the registry or, simply, remove and reinstall advanced config... bah)

When you use advanced config it will show nothing in the actual ring settings menu of the phone.
However, when you apply it with advanced config it does save and you click ok. Restart your phone and the ring tone(s) should be applied.

I just tried: after device reboot, I received an sms with the remaining credit
and it didn't rang...
I think my phone is an obstinate opponent as its owner some times is...
I will try converting mp3 to wma, or changing some keys in the registry...

Make sure that your Alerts are set to something like Alert 1 or Alert 9 under settings, I found out that if they are set to none, the reg hack won't take place; if that doesn't work then you might have v2 or 3 drivers that have dissabled you from edeting the reg like me.

If you have accepted any current or recent HTC updates to your phone then you have the newest drivers that are imbeded in your firmware. But if you go to Settings, About and then more information; you should see your OS, Firmware, Radio versions.

Hello Floods,
did you try this way? Summarizing it says we have to overwrite the already present alert tones... Not tried yet by my side, just found it...
