Easiest way to sideload, no root needed - Captivate General

Once you have rooted, and enabled side loading, it's no more difficult then plugging your phone into a usb port on you computer and dragging the file over.
I don't understand why yet another program is needed

I used the one click root and all it did was unlock my bootloader and then it didn't flash the recovery. So I just wanna know if there any apps like z4root that can just add superuser.

It took me maybe 5 minutes, if that, to root my ns4g. Cmd-fastboot oem unlock. Then flash the zip. There's a sticky thread with all the info.

This is true. Do you mean the one by shabbypenguin/Chris378? Yeah, that is pretty cool. An automated guide that holds your hand though the whole process is way easier than a list of downloads and instructions that says "Read carefully, because if you do something wrong, your phone will explode."

one click root in the development section works. Just read carefully before you hit enter in the command prompt, you might skip steps.

This is only for rooting the NS4G (d720) using windows. Even though it is a semi-automated process, it is still a good time for being anal about reading carefully and performing each step exactly as described.
Edit: Oh, and read the readme first.

I think there's that super one click method. But I've never tried it so not sure if it's an app or of you need your computer.
Nvflash is probably the best method to root, but that of course requires a computer... how long are you without a computer for?

[Q] Time to Root

Hello.
Can somebody please lead me to a credible "How To" root for my Infuse. I have watched many uTube videos and most seem to keep leading me to SuperOneClick. However, I haven't found a way to download the latest version. Plus, there seems to be a difference of opinion about downloading Samsung Kies drivers...some say to do this, others don't.
Thanks for the help

don't use kies.. download the USB drivers only. unless Samsung pulled them as kies is now in the support section for the infuse. (though it still doesn't work on current firmware LOL, Samsung = fail)
I would just flash the defuse or community kernel, them move on to the rom you want or maybe the kernel will be enough.
The LOL parts a little erie...but it seems simple enough..Thanks

yeah check the one click back to stock threads by Adam outler for a way to flash defuse without root or cwm. (the kernel will root you and if you flash a rom it will likely be rooted)
and I was just laughing that Samsung can't even get updater software right foe their own device, meanwhile some independent guys backwards engineered their flash tool and made a cross platform open source alternative. Samsung sux at software, they can design and deliver technology ahead of the curve then they kill it with the software.
Please excuse my slowness. However, when I go to shortfuse.org to download the latest version of SuperOneClick, I keep getting the download for something called "iliVid" a free download manager. I don't want this because I don't want extra tool bars or search engines or Lord knows what this will put in my computer. All I want is the SuperOneClick

Before I hit the Root button to brick my telephone, to the far right of the SuperOneClick screen, there is a drop down menu: Should "auto" be displayed under exploit?
Thanks for the help.
PS
1) I have not downloaded Kies files (not sure if I should)
2) USB debugging is checked
3) I've unmounted my SD Card
You will not brick your phone doing this. It's harmless. Auto is fine.

Seems to crash on:

Infuse 4g
Win 7pro
USB debugging checked
SD Card unmounted
Keis files not downloaded
Any ideas

I recommend going to this link: http://shortfuse.org/?p=193 - to download SuperOneClick v2.3.3 as it is the current version and not attached in the link above. However, you should go to the link above and read up on SuperOneClick. I have not heard of any risk involved with SuperOneClick as long as you read and follow directions. And BE PATIENT with it.

I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.
Redd I know you want to try and help but that is not even close. This guy is looking for an easy way to root.
Alex you can either follow Lumins link for root or learn to use ODIN or Heimdell to flash a kernel that has root and clock work mod. I know this is a lot to take in. CWM has many advantages over simply rooting your phone. Such as custom ROMS that already have most bloat removed thereby freeing up tons of space. Either way you decide to go just read whatever you can and be patient with the learning curve.

People have their favorites. I use System Rom Toolbox from the market. I find it easier than TB and others. When you go into 'Remove System Apps' hit menu and select 'All System Apps'.

You can still follow my debloater for reference (Click on the link in my forum signature).
I recommend you use a CWM kernel anyway since you'll have ext4 support which should give your phone a nice speed boost too.

"omg, a newb asking an apk question, KILL HIM!"

I know I know... There are a lot of things I am good with... android...is new for me.
I have a galaxy note and I dont know the first thing about .apk files or rooting, etc.... I dont mind the way it works now... BUT
I want S Voice. (duh)
as you can see from my sig... Its be A WHILE since I have hacked/modded phones. Then I went to the iPhone for a few models and now I am back...
I downloaded "apkinstaller" and "appinstaller" but niether will load the apk I got off of xda.
I loaded the .apk to my external sd and made enables the ability to load apps that arent from the android market.
Do I need to delete something? Or what... I really need someone to give me a "step by step, you're an idiot" way of getting this done. I really dont want to root my phone if I dont have to.
Thanks to anyone who helps!
you shouldnt need to root to install apk's as long as you have checked off ability to install apps that arent from market. I have been doing that from my dropbox since my phone was stock everything. Maybe the apk is broken. Try downloading it again. Maybe even try downloading another apk just to test if it installs properly.
I will try that now.

actually I dont think that S Voice is an apk. From what I read quickly is that it needs to be flashed via CWM. Which is a bit more complicated than installing an apk.

I dont really have the time to read up on all of it but from what I have you may need to be rooted and remove voice talk first. I think a few of the custom ROMS also have S Voice installed on them already. This is a trickier apk than usual. Would be great if someone with more experience on S Voice would jump in and show you the steps. Sorry I couldnt be of more help.

say what? (told you I am a newb)
it is, in this state (unrooted), impossible to get it working.
You need to have root-acces (which you stated you don't have), because you have to replace the usual voice talk with the S-voice application.
You can of course root your phone, read up, and install the mod.
