I've never understood this that all Twitter apps have to refresh and essentially waste battery.
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/05/android-cloud-to-device-messaging.html
I think this is Android's version of push notifications? It's Froyo only, which explains why no apps have it.
Something like that would be extremely resource intensive to serve in real time, I imagine. Google might have the hardware for it, but Twitter can barely keep their website up, let alone sending out pings to millions of devices.

I know the Blackberry has push notifications for Twitter so I'm sure the iPhone does.

That must be why it doesn't have an option for refresh time?
Except it does?

Right ! I also tried TweetDeck, and tbh, it's really nice for a beta
The default update time for TweetDeck is 3 minutes so I can see why it would seem like push.
There is currently no real "push" in the twitter api which is why all of the apps do polling. Twitter are trying something new (see: http://dev.twitter.com/pages/user_streams) but no apps use it yet. I imagine with Blackberry they must be polling on their backend then pushing to your phone.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the official aim is finally here for android in the market !!
Interesting. Says it connects to facebook too. . . thanks man.
about time the official aim is here for us
Great... Hope Yahoo came along.
1) I'm not seeing all my FB friends.
2) I don't get a sound notification when I get incoming message.
Does anybody else have those issues?
I get notifications, but I can't connect to facebook. The option is blacked out.
works great, minus the lifestream being a non-must for me.
also, no auto-correct is really frustrating when you're not the most accurate typer and are normally spoiled with auto-correct throughout the rest of the phone.

You need to download the DESKTOP Beta version of the AIM and enable FB thru there, once you do that then it will allow you to chat on your phone.
Couldn't stop laughing after I got this...

I have never been spammed so much in my life. Every freaking page I open gets this stupid popup. Been going on constantly for the last couple of days.
Anyone else or is it just my [chrome] browser being broken?
I already cleared out all my cookies & cache & everything else but still get this popup on every_freaking_page. STOPPIT. lol
Dell venue spam in pic below. Which btw gets in the way of the quick reply button sometimes.

Have you tried to install AdBlock Plus? It will remove ALL the ads from ALL the webpages. It's a must-have extension
You can download it on adblockplus [dot] org

I had already disabled flash which did the trick, but this looks like a great plugin. Thanks.
We'd like to encourage websites to use straightforward, unobtrusive advertising. That's why we've established strict guidelines to identify acceptable ads, which are shown under default settings. If you still want to block every ad you can disable this in a few seconds.

Sounds fair to me. :good:
Seems to be working also.
Got sick and tired of the lack of tablet-optimized apps and was wondering what popular apps would like like if they were optimized, so I decided to make a concept of a Spotify tablet-optimized-app. Made two concepts, because why not. Buttons aren't in the exact same places as they are supposed to be, but it's a concept so that shouldn't matter. Hope you guys like them. And of course I also hope developers start optimizing apps for tablets.

Very nice with a touch of material design. I think you got some inspiration from the gmail app, didn't you?
It's just a matter of whether the spotify devs will really implement something like this.
This looks gorgeous
I'd kill for this. Looks way better than the current UI. Especially now since they removed the tabs in "my music" in the recent update. I have an apk that still has the tabs if anyone is interested. It has a different signature, so it won't update through the play store.

Yes, indeed, I did. Just really hope popular apps will be tablet-optimized in the future. Would kill for apps to look like they belong on the big screen!
And thanks all!
Let's face it, we all have contacts that nobody seems to care to stick your friend's picture on. Then, what's the point of having these (reserved empty space for profile photo)?
It's definitely not cool to have a list of Alphabets.

Now, the solution to this is to rip their photos from......where? Of course, it has to be the most active users messenger app - WhatsApp. Truth to be told, it is and statistics don't lie (ehhh).
Well, the biggest issue with WhatsApp is it's tremendously "secured" that it offers ZERO API to the public. Hence, it was quite tricky and difficult to figure out a solution to rip the photos from the app.
Although, I'd manage to be able to collect the photos from the platform automatically, it definitely wasn't the best experience out there. Technically none, until someone else decides to do something about it, which I hope the company will.
Let's take a quick glance at the review and description of the current apps that offers "Contact photo sync" features.
"* WhatsApp (semi-automatically: contact pictures have to be downloaded in WhatsApp manually, the rest is done by the app)"
- Source: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.michaelflisar.socialcontactphotosync
That suck. Big time.
I know it may not be a huge deal to some of you, but every time I look at my dialer I knew something has to done.
--
Anyway, I need a few of community members to test out the extension (Chrome only) that I've created before it's ever going to be released.
You will need to have a computer, a cable, Chrome browser and to install an extra app that aid the process to sync the photo to the contact.
Also, to throw in an extra question, can root technique solves the problem by intruding WhatsApp, the app itself? Will there be a miracle?
i have been a samsung user for oblivion, now i have note 20. however, i can t help thinking that, instagram and facebook are so friggin smooth on iphone, everything has animations, and smoothness in the transitions, on android, it has barely any animation, entering and exiting aswell, what they dont fix the animations of these apps on android, im seriously contemplating ditching samsung and get an iphone just for the smoothness of their apps and transitions., i ve gotten sick of this man.
Ditch that trashware meaning fb and Instagram.
They should never be installed on an Android.
Multivector malware. Login using browser only if you must use them. Actions have consequences...

So u mean, he specifically asks that it s only optimized for iphone?? Meaning he hates android
If the apps provided by Meta are running well on iPhones but not on Androids, then they arent't well coded, IMO.
You may request Meta to provide appropriate remedy.

what meta, the app is not smooth, i mean it s developped for the iphone , that s what i mean, it doesn t have animation and transitions in every aspect, opening photos, opening the menu etc... it s just not smooth on android, both facebook and insta.
