[Q] windows mobile as tablet drawing - General Questions and Answers

hy all!!
I was wondering if anyone here knew of a program that allows you to turn your Pocket PC into a drawing tablet which interfaces with Photoshop or other drawing programs on your desktop PC. Thanks

What do you mean by "interfaces"? There are several programs which allow freestyle drawing and can be saved as a jpg/bitmap etc. All of these can be imported to photoshop. I personally use MiTo Team Paint. You might also check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=678556 . That may be more what you were looking for. There was or is a beta of photoshop mobile available from adobe also. Search google for it.

I don't know any, but it's certainly possible to write. You wouldn't get the "pressure" part of the tablet (unless you're phone registers pressure too?).
Because of the comparative sizes of screens though, you might find it hard to select what you want on your PC.
I was going to write an app for my PDA a few years ago to do exactly this (basically set the mouse X,Y to the stylus position, and "click" buttons), however, I ended up just buying a Medion (Aldi's electronics brand) tablet. It cost about £25, A4 size and works perfectly for my purposes.

Ahh, that may be what the op is talking about. There is a program that lets you use your ppc as a touchpad for pc. I guess that might be how you can "write" directly onto the pc using your ppc... or was there some other program you had in mind to do that?
I'm curios now, as I hadn't considered this possibility before.

Moved as not software release.

PPC Tablet 4.0
Found something that claims to do what I understand the OP was wanting. There is a free trial available, so that will give the opportunity to text compatability with WM 6.X. Note that there is a specific installation guide for WM 6. Also, it is VGA, so vga fix may be required if WVGA resolution is on the phone... or perhaps it will just run at part-screen resolution.

I'm interested in a wacom–like tablet solution for my Windows Mobile 6.5 tele, as well. It'd be great to be able to use my resistive touch screen as a pressure-sensitive tablet in Photoshop. Anyone know of any solutions? 'Cause the hope of such an app is the only reason that I've kept my Rhodium.
UPDATE: I've started a thread for an app request here, so let's generate a buzz to stimulate the dev community.

Just thought I would point out the the AandA company I linked in the post above offers to make custom software, so it could be worth contacting them to check on the price for adding pressure sensitivity to the app that I linked. Could potentially take collections from other interested members to get it paid for and provided in their next version...

Thanks, I'll look into it. Glad I'd actually come back to this thread, 'cause my posts've been gettin' so little love lately, that I was just all 'round apathetic. But, friend, you've inspired me‼

Glad I could be of some little value around here.
Pencil Box Deluxe is a step towards getting pressure sensitivity also... you can't actually get different pressure responses, but you can select different pressure settings... too bad it doesn't interface with the PC. Best of luck.

iPhone for PPC - Which is the best?

I have been using Slide2Unlock on my WM6 Hermes now for a while and have really gotten to like it, so much that I want the iPhone look and feel on my PPC.
I have seen a few around but then seem parts of the full package. Is there one particular one that seems the best all rounder?
I came across this one but haven't tried it yet:-
http://www.ozankilic.com/?p=31
I would like a version that has the iPhone dialler but needs to have the smart dialler functionality so that names come up when I type numbers etc..
I would also like to continue to use Slide2Unlock
Also, I would like the icons on the today screen etc...
Can you please point me in the direction of a good version.
Many Thanks
Mark
Can anyone offer any input into this topic? or pointers to different iPhone themes
Thanks

How do you think it compares to http://www.ozankilic.com/?p=31?
have also come across this one but also don't know how it compares to all the others:-

Wisbar Desktop
Check out
www.lakeridgesoftware.com
Its a program called wisbar advance and desktop. They are great programs and will let you design your UI any way you like. If you go to the forum and under skins, search for iphone. You will find people who have done plenty of iphone skins and have uploaded them so others can use them.
Right now there is no way for our phones to handle the transitions that they show the iphone do. It take my phone (Hermes) 5 seconds to do a transition that is fade to black. So until Windows Mobile upgrades the way the run graphics we are out of luck.
For transitions, try iTask. There are actually a bunch out there right now;
Grumps' iPhone App (stable, fast, has animation of icons disappearing one after another when opening app, but no longer being developed)
iFonz (active developer, many features, but kinda slow startup, since it is written fully in .NET)
iTask (written completely in flash, if you can deal with that, it has iPhone-style animations and is fast, not much development lately)
In the end, it's all personal preference. From what I remember, Grumps' iPhone App is the lightest and fastest, but least featured (a straightforward launcher). iFonz aims the most to emulate the iPhone exactly, but iTask is pretty similar, and has built-in apps like Satellite.
This thread seems to be advertising in every post...
Ads on xda?
Good lordy, ban that person!
Anyway, I'm a sucker who goes through iPhone envy every now and then. I've actually tried most of the ones mentioned above, spending WAY too much money for the one using wisbar. To be honest, my favorite was iFonz, which, oddly enough, doesn't cost a dime.

I tried a lot of iphone lookalike tools, but ifonz is far away from beeing the best!
Maybe its the best for you...
Best iClone
So far, Torx's theme has been the best for me. It allowed me the iPhone look, but WAD/WA3 allowed me to customize it even more to suit my preferences.
That's just my 2 cents, which may not even be worth that.

XDA Exec/WM6 Help for a N00b

Hi there.
I know there's probably nothing irritates you guys more than a n00b asking for assistance in doing something techie, but have pity...
I'm not a total tech divvy, I have no problem with pooters, but I've never had the reason to dissect code, or get up with the workings of the PDA or mobile phone, so I'm really clueless, here.
I have some general wonderments...
as well as requests for advice and assistance.
I have an O2 XDA Exec which I love, and haven't got the money to upgrade at present, and so, would like to milk as much performance out of it as possible.
I work in a business where contacts, bookings and diary dates are essential, as is communication via SMS and telephone (and one day, if it becomes cheap enough, push email would be nice). This device is running 24/7, keeping me informed, running my business, and its wonderful, such a problem when it 'goes down.' It has been running nearly flawlessly for almost 18 months, and much as I'd love to upgrade to a TyTn 2 when my contract expires, I also want to leave options open for a 3G and application-friendly iPhone, or indeed something better from HTC.
I have a few niggles to address.
First, the alarms, of which there are many required, are completely fubar unless I have AlarmToday installed. Fair enough. I understand that this is a 'Windows Mobile' issue, and I can live with using a small app to fix the problem. Are there any better solutions. I also have two 'tweaks' type apps installed, which claim to fix the issues that cause non-sounding alarms on WM PDA phones.
Second, I need a good one-glance Today screen, professional looking, and a comprehensive listing of diary dates and (possibly) text messages etc. But all the ones I seem to use appear to slow my XDA to a crawl.
Third, I need to use a good PIM, and chose Pocket Informant 2007, which is a great app, but now I'm struggling because my XDA seems to be grinding to a halt.
I noticed that when the battery hits about 57% it starts to crap out, freeze up, stop running apps etc. I replaced the battery with a brand new one, and it still does it. Also, the system is sometimes so slow, or the phone rings and the side buttons (pickup and hang up) don't do a damn thing...
A friend recommended that many bugs and issues of speed were resolved in WM6, so, of course, I'm looking for a good WM6 build to replace my standard (latest) ROM and OS from O2 on the XDA exec... essentially I only need the base featureset that came as standard, as long as my apps will still work. I have standard memory in the exec and 512 meg SD card.
Can someone please be bold and recommend the virtues of two or three WM6 builds for utmost reliability and functionality bearing in mind what I've said about the use and needs of the phone, and perhaps lead me to the right place, and the right procedures. I'm thinking that if a PDA phone is anything like a pooter, it might need a backup to hard disk, then a good clear out and a reinstall to try to break the backlog of clogging or something, and any tips on doing this/better apps/faster today screens would be really, really appreciated... I need input on this, because the last thing I can afford to do is brick the XDA or kick its usefulness into touch for significant periods.
I appreciate someone's help!
Many thanks,
Steve

Hi, and thanks for that, but I had seen that page before, and though I'm sure it sounds completely n00b to you, all I see are some names, which mean nothing to me, and some numbers, which mean nothing to me, and some hints toward notes explaining what I do with pieces of software that I don't know anything about and don't understand.
I appreciate that you guys are techie enough to write this stuff, but surely the purpose of you writing it is to provide it as a solution for people who aren't techie enough to write it, otherwise Microsoft win out over independent developers by making a product that is user friendly and self explanatory, rather than impossibly intricate and mysterious...
Still holding out for a more explanatory response, if someone would be so kind.

Just download one of the roms, put your device into bootloader mode (backlight button + Power button + soft reset), and run the upgrade exe file from your comp. Simple!
Thats all you need to know for flashing your uni. When you're in bootloader mode, check the version number in the bottom. If its 1.xx you have a G3 based uni, else its a G4 uni (ver 2.xx). Some roms are compatible only with G3 based devices....so check what you're about to flash.
I'd recommend Ranju's latest rom (v6) as it is really stable and has all the right applications and configuration in it.
All the best to ya!
San
OK, thanks. Will give that a try.

I have an old app that works on WM 6.1 called SSEYO MiniMixa. It was made by Tao Group. The company has been sold to Intermorphic Ltd and they are reworking MiniMixa and re-branding it Mixtikl and you can find info about it here. I read in there blog that they are trying for an October release date.

Looks like it could blow the lid off Beat Maker. Guess we'll see.

PM me If you'd like lepsyfou. I have a special link to that software
Anything else out there that is more current? Mixtikl seems to be in Beta at the moment and the other programs are clearly on there last legs or lack a true VGA skin.
This seems to be where new Winmo devices should shine outside of the capacitive touch and screen size of the IP.. That Iphone is churning out some cool tools, but the hardware is approaching its limits where our phones have room to grow (tabbed programs, RAM, memory, storage)...
I'm gonna throw my 2 cents in for what it's worth...

New person saying hi and asking some Q's

Hi everyone xx
I've been lurking on the forum for a couple of weeks now and slowly getting the hang of things however I have a few questions.
I have an XDA Zest and I'm just confused of all the abbreviations and jargon on here that I'm not sure what apps and mods I can use.
I've figured out I can only go for things that are VGA and compatible with WM, but other than that I just feel stupid
I am quite techie minded and do learn quickly and have managed to do little things on my phone but 3 questions off the top of my head.
Can someone recommend a free MP3/media player for my phone, WMP is pants and has no way to set the bass or anything. Putting the word music into the search here brings up loads! I tried one called flip or something like that that was Iphone-ish but that was on a trial and I wasn't that keen on it.
I love changing themes on my phone but on this handset it just seems like such a minefield. I saw a lovely HTC high gloss one (I think) and I was just baffled by it all. Is there a dummies guide somewhere?
Also, I am constantly hitting the send or menu button when writing a text, is there an easy way to move these buttons?
Many thanks xx
Media player, there's two spring to mind, S2P and TCPMP. Search and ye shall find.
Many thanks. I had a look at TCPMP earlier but the site I was on said it was discontinued and now being charged for, I think I might have found the correct one.
Afterthought/ Maybe not, it keeps saying I have to send the crash.txt to the developers. After a search on here it seems it was a common thing, I'll carry on looking.
EDIT: I've got it working, I found a different CAB file someone posted and that one works!
at least you used the search ur in minority there
lol
Unfortunately the Zest is not an HTC phone, so you will not find any support for it here. It is Windows Mobile so you can use generic WM apps. The interface I believe is Spb Mobile Shell, so you can search for tweaks for that.

Best Windows Mobile Universal Remoteware today?

Hi All,
Has anyone tried out all the major vendors still around?
I don't want to fork out for all of them...
About to try the package that comes with the CF IR booster called 'ultramote'.
However I believe there's others which are prolly better...
If I upgrade to the latest rom (6.5.x?) will they still work?
I also have something "roughly" like this visualised... (see attached .txt)
I have an old Axim X50v which android is being ported to atm...
But progress is slow & ultimately limited, so I may have to find a better supported device soon.
Any thoughts/ideas/advice greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Jed
Come on... Any thoughts on this anyone?
I'd be really interested in hearing opinions!
Cheers

Guys, can anyone help me out here?
All the best,
Jed
Ohh i get it you want a remote for pda. Gotcha ... IR is not included with HTC devices after the titan II.
Um, no...
If you look at my "rough" diagram (attached) ...
I'm hoping to devise a device that acts a central controller for consumer electronics & home automation.
So far the most promising solution I've found is this...
http://www.openremote.org/display/orb/Boss+Overview
You don't have to use their reference hardware but something low power/profile like it would be ideal.
I was thinking of integrating the entire thing into my existing HTPC/PVR but I'm not sure yet, it might be best to have dedicated machine.
To run this software it's critical one has JRE + Apache Tomcat installed/configured properly.
I'd in turn probably run this software on top of Ubuntu or LinuxMCE.
This controller would be able to send/receive via;
Internet, Wifi, Ethernet, IR, X10, some proprietary RF, & numerous other HA/CE related protocols.
A critical part of this system is a hand-held (x50v) that interfaces nicely with the controller.
This hand-held would ideally also have IR integrated, but it's not imperative as Wifi would be used mostly.
However...
In the short term I want to use my hand-held (x50v) as the 'central controller' for various devices using its IR.
Hence the basis for my original post....
I'm interested in other peoples ideas, have you tried something similar?
Have you played with a platform that's better (in your opinion) than openremote?
Or perhaps you know of a better hware/sware combo for the hand-held?
Cheers,
Jed
Well I've done some investigations and Linux/android support is just too limited and prolly will remain that way to bother with Linux on the x50v.
So it'll have to be x50v + WM + app <---> HA controller device <---> end devices
Longer term I'll have to get something like the nokia n900 (maemo based) or at least something with good potential for Linux support.
So it'd be cool to get a few more thoughts on this from people doing similar stuff.
I realise that's probably not a large cross-section of people though, LOL
Jus gunna let this thread rest soon, delete from my readerlist, & move on.
Before that, in depth thoughts from interested parties would be appreciated.
ah frack yas
