Hi i am new here, just got my kaiser and i wanted to customize my splash screen because i flashed a ROM. It took me like 2 days to search through this forum and did everything. I have to say that the information is quite scattered. i am sure a lot of the new guys will have the same problems.
So I decide to contribute my first post to the newbies like me.
BTW i use vista ultimate 64bit, windows mobile center. which seem like there are a lot of compatibility issues.
Okay, so first Boot Screen, Splash Animation and Splash Screen are 3 different things. the order come to the screen is : boot screen (default as "smart mobility" for HTC), then splash animation (default is animation for HTC or operator), then splash screen (default is windows mobile x.x)
Lets work backwards,
Splash Screen
Fairly easy, the image is in \windows\welcomehead.96.png, this folder is not visible on the phone browser on my computer but i can see it with my file explorer on the phone. I made a png and cut then paste it. then i found out the file cannot be replaced somehow (depends on ROM?).
so i looked around, it seems like there are 2 solutions: resco explorer or edit the registry, I have a registry editor so i picked that solution. first i changed my image name to welcome2008.png and uploaded to \windows\ . Then Edit \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\SPLASH SCREEN there are 2 image urls, not sure the difference, but i changed both to \windows\welcome2008.png,
soft reset! wala!!
Splash Animation
Took me a while. the animation is in \windows\animated.gif so I made a gif with flash. but the frame rate seems not right. then i realized the IE is bad in displaying gifs, it looks fine in firefox.
I uploaded to the the phone, cut and paste to \windows\, cannot be replaced the original file again. so i change the file name to animated2.gif, Edit \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HTC\STARTUPANIAMATION change the giffile to "\windows\animated2.gif"
soft reset! bingo!!
later on i also changed another field there called WavFile, so my startup has sound too... SO COOL!
more animation here:

Boot Screen
Took me the longest, first look through:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334907&highlight=kaiser+splash
Download SplashTool, nb_image_converter, customRUU, and htc rom tool.
follow the instruction, i made a bmp and converted it into a nice splash.nb. ran the HTC rom tool, ERROR
error: File "htcrt.info" is CORRPTED. This is the license policy violation! Halting
checked the forum, seems like a lot of people have problem with HTC Rom Tool. so i flipped through google and somehow found this NBHUtil on this forum that also make rom. i attached it in this post.
run NBHUtil, choose Kaiser as device, pick splash.nb in Splash file, LEAVE EVERYTHING ELSE DEFAULT... Build NBH. yay, finally got a splash.nbh,
now what??
Change the nbh name to "ruu_signed.nbh", run CustomRUU, similar steps as you are flashing the ROM
some nervous selections, a bit scared to turn my phone into a brick. but...
IT WORKED !!!
anyhow, hope this post can help some of the newbies.

You maybe are not using the search tools correctly there is a little thing called XDA-WiKi go there and there is all the information you will need. I could give you the link but then you won't learn how to find anything and tomorrow you'll be back asking someone how to change your boot sound. You know you can search GOOGLE and they will bring right back to XDA for what your looking for. You say you been looking for 2 days then your not digging in the right place or using the right tool. It took me 10 key strokes to get what your asking for. So I hope you take my advice you have set yourself up for a flame here by asking this kind of question. I have tried to help you but don't be surprised if you get flamed!

no problem
thanks junkmantis, i changed my animation. but when i tried to add the sound, i just got a really sharp noise instead of my sound effect. what did i do wrong?
Cheers dude, new here too and it's a;ways nice to read a 'summary' post.
still cannot get my splash sound to work, anyone knows the problem??
thanks in advance!!
Great post. Quick correction: the registry entry for the splash screen should be corrected
From:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\MICROSOFT\SPLASH SCREEN
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\SPLASH SCREEN
thanks peterfnet for the correction,
kaiserbb001, i am not sure, maybe something to do with the wav format?? anyone else knows?
Use schap's new Advanced Config 3.0 and check to see if animation is enabled. Also, the .wav file must be in \Windows. You can also use Schap's Advanced Config 3.0 to browse and choose the .wav file that you want to use.
Did all of this great the only problem I have is that my initial boot screen shows and then it stays on there until windows loads so its not showing welcomehead at all anymore, same goes for if I turn the animated splash on it will just show where the animation stopped until windows loads and totally bypasses the welcomehead.
Hope this will get you in the right direction!!

Hello,

But I cant find \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\SPLASH SCREEN
Do you have an other idea how I will be find the entry? Or do you have an idea how i can delete the Tick to ReadOnly?
Thx 4 Help
PS: Sorry, my english is very bad, im twelve and from germany

I've had my start wav sound do the same as yours ... and a "chipmunk" type fast sound play. I'm assuming the bitrate of my files isn't correct and I don't seem to be able to find the precise settings to create a wav to have it play properly. Can anyone supply this info please?
I know currently that animated pics dont work on the android os, or does it? They have to to an extent for the face that the second boot pic is animated with the lil android dude or if u got 1.5 the android text. my old razr v2 didnt allow this either until someone was able to make a theme with a animated pic embedded as the bg. has anyone been looking into this.
Idk but this would be really nice to have though...
Animated Radar images on i.wund.com (weatherunderground.com's iPhone site) don't seem to work either.
This is a big deal for me since I am a frustrated wanna be meteorologist.

There are animated buttons in the calculator application. I'd would check that code to see what's making that work and see if there is anyway to make it work anywhere else... if there is a will, there will be a way.

Nice.
There is also an animated boot screen, guess it is a gif but I don't know...
um I know that theDUDE and im sure others have changed the ANDROID on cupcake... v1.5. One flashes across a different text and it has a fire effect through the letters... im sure their are some constraints at the moment...
but just thought id throw my 2 cents in.. maybe they had more luck

Dont quote me, but I think that those are just 2 .png files interlaced with each other. Any themer would know better though.
from what i can tell most of the themers that have changed it only changed the color of the background behind the android text. it is a simple .png that has a "shiny" section and it loops the entire image to the right. i am not sure what causes it to move, but i thought i saw someone used fireworks to create a new image. i am sure that if you get the source code from google you can have a look to see what is actually happening
I made the fire for the prodigal port and i changed the whole image for the boot i did for the Dude's Full 1.1a default i also made it faster. There are i cons in parts of the theme that can be made bigger and not affect the theme.
i think this is a deja vu post again. there must be an older one.
the basic answer is that the current widget can only display static images unless you extend it yourself.
Hi,
I'd like to know if it's possible "to loop" the weather animation on the homepage of the HTC HD2. I like it very much and I'd like to see the animation all the time that I see the home.
Thanks in advance.
Must I modify some value in register system?
That's a good question!! Must be possible via the reg - but I cannot find it!!
Thanks.
Anyone know how it can be made?

I reckon it will mean an edit of the files that are the animated weather, but I can't find them. I had a pretty good look round and just couldn't find them anywhere (obvious).
It's gotta be doable, but you've gotta bear in mind that the animation fades in, so a loop may look pretty bad. (Imagine you've got a load of snow falling over your screen and then it just disappears and starts to fade in again, not to mention the sliding of the corner images in snow!)
It's gonna take someone knowing where the files are stored and knowing how to edit them well to make this work. It may simply be too much to ask with the current animations.
I hope not, cos I'd love constant snow on my home page at the minute. It looks great for the few seconds that it does work!
I'm pretty sure what you want will result in huge energy draw and battery will die too fast.
First off, this is my very first boot animation, so don't be too harsh. I would like to thank everyone here at XDA, because without you guys I wouldn't know absolutely anything. I also want to give a quick thanks to Lrod0175 because I used his animation as a reference to figure out how to make mine work.
I made this boot animation as a learning experience, but I do plan to make more. It is themed after the last Harry Potter movie because I saw a request for it earlier today.
I didn't make the video run in full 480*800 because it stretches the video and makes it look.. awkward. Instead, I ran it at it's default video size and animated some "HTC Evo 4G" text to move around a little bit at the beginning. Also, it is somewhat short, again, this was mainly a test for myself to see if I could figure out how to make one. It is designed for Sense based ROM's as well.
PREVIEW (You can watch in 1080, full screen, if you want.)
Download Link
You need to push this to /Data/Local if you are on Kinged Kingdom RLS 2.1. You may also have to change the permissions on it with Root Explorer or something similar.
Let me know what you think of it and please "Thank" me if you like it.

That's awesome and great work!!! Where's the sound though ?
I was only really focused on the actual animation in this one, so i didn't put any sound with it. I plan on making some more very soon and ill incorporate sound into those.

Nice man can't wait to see it!
Nice
Looks great!
So in my quest to make the phone more unique after rooting, I was EXTREMELY tired (after 4 days of ownership) tired of the stupid sprint sound and logo both before and after shutdown...
I found a thread where someone has the normal Samsung boot animation and right before I was about to install the 3 files into system\media. I took note of something.
We have multiple boot screens by default (or at least my Sprint phone does)
Ours are indicated by the SPR_bootfilename.
You can see the stock Samsung boot images.
Then I had BST, crypt, VMU, XAS...etc
So I first labeled all the SPR_bootsamsung images .bak hoping they would not then run, and in fact they did not. The stupid yellow spring flag logo went away and it just showed the fading sprint.
I then looked at the following and you can see where I was testing the file names and changed somethings.
VMU, is the Virgin Mobile boot screen.
BST has some super bright orange screen that says LTE.
Crypt has a really simple but cool green lock that has a circle spinning around it.
XAS didn't have anything and just defaulted to the Samsung boot.
I deleted the VMU and BST. Thinking I might run the crypt because it's super simple and clean looking.
My one question is that by default if I label anything SPR_ it will run that first, where should I look to change the script so that it would just run look at the normal Samsung file name instead of the SPR_.
Apologies if this is super old news but I thought it was interesting to say the least.

theyre packaged in the ROM itself and i havent been on a stock ROM in so long, i wouldnt have the foggiest whats included in one. Id have to unpack a zip and look. but if there are several in there, its probably sprint being too lazy to remove the others but virgin and boost are both MVNOs for sprint, so it kinda makes sense as the S5s available from all 3 carriers are all G900Ps, which is what you have

I have to thank you for the post! I renamed the SPR files with ".bak" and the boot is faster, dimmer, and quieter. Thank you!
How did you view the other animations?

if you want some flavor choices, youre in luck! Many people make their own boot animations and some of them are pretty dang sweet!!

heres a few links with some animations for ya. Ive seen tons more in the past. Sports teams themed, cars, bikes, babes, bands, android vs apple. The list goes on and on. Just takes some googleing and many of them are flashable in recovery

No problem. I couldn't stand the stupid sprint logo because the phone would be dark, then a BRIGHT WHITE sprint yellow flag would show, which was blinding at night. I just did the above to disable them.
However to view the other ones simply add SPR_ to the front of them.
So for instance the crypt_bootsamsungloop.qmg should be renamed to SPR_bootsamsungloop.qmg.
Then just restart the phone and you will see the animation. If you like it, keep it, if not, just rename it back to the crypt*or whatever it was and you're done.
I deleted the factory SPR_ boot animations since I will never use those. I also deleted the Virgin mobile, XAS. They took up space so figured why need them.. Both the Virgin and the Sprint were something like 4mb each which is ridic.
I like the crypt though the more I look at it. Super simple, and doesn't tell you what the rom, or phone is which is cool. Very simple. I had someone with the same phone (who's had theirs for a couple years now) ask wait what is that? my phone doesn't do that..lol
