Hi i am new here, just got my kaiser and i wanted to customize my splash screen because i flashed a ROM. It took me like 2 days to search through this forum and did everything. I have to say that the information is quite scattered. i am sure a lot of the new guys will have the same problems.
So I decide to contribute my first post to the newbies like me.
BTW i use vista ultimate 64bit, windows mobile center. which seem like there are a lot of compatibility issues.
Okay, so first Boot Screen, Splash Animation and Splash Screen are 3 different things. the order come to the screen is : boot screen (default as "smart mobility" for HTC), then splash animation (default is animation for HTC or operator), then splash screen (default is windows mobile x.x)
Lets work backwards,
Splash Screen
Fairly easy, the image is in \windows\welcomehead.96.png, this folder is not visible on the phone browser on my computer but i can see it with my file explorer on the phone. I made a png and cut then paste it. then i found out the file cannot be replaced somehow (depends on ROM?).
so i looked around, it seems like there are 2 solutions: resco explorer or edit the registry, I have a registry editor so i picked that solution. first i changed my image name to welcome2008.png and uploaded to \windows\ . Then Edit \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\SPLASH SCREEN there are 2 image urls, not sure the difference, but i changed both to \windows\welcome2008.png,
soft reset! wala!!
Splash Animation
Took me a while. the animation is in \windows\animated.gif so I made a gif with flash. but the frame rate seems not right. then i realized the IE is bad in displaying gifs, it looks fine in firefox.
I uploaded to the the phone, cut and paste to \windows\, cannot be replaced the original file again. so i change the file name to animated2.gif, Edit \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HTC\STARTUPANIAMATION change the giffile to "\windows\animated2.gif"
soft reset! bingo!!
later on i also changed another field there called WavFile, so my startup has sound too... SO COOL!
more animation here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=336174
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=414418&highlight=splash
Boot Screen
Took me the longest, first look through:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334907&highlight=kaiser+splash
Download SplashTool, nb_image_converter, customRUU, and htc rom tool.
follow the instruction, i made a bmp and converted it into a nice splash.nb. ran the HTC rom tool, ERROR
error: File "htcrt.info" is CORRPTED. This is the license policy violation! Halting
checked the forum, seems like a lot of people have problem with HTC Rom Tool. so i flipped through google and somehow found this NBHUtil on this forum that also make rom. i attached it in this post.
run NBHUtil, choose Kaiser as device, pick splash.nb in Splash file, LEAVE EVERYTHING ELSE DEFAULT... Build NBH. yay, finally got a splash.nbh,
now what??
Change the nbh name to "ruu_signed.nbh", run CustomRUU, similar steps as you are flashing the ROM
some nervous selections, a bit scared to turn my phone into a brick. but...
IT WORKED !!!
anyhow, hope this post can help some of the newbies.

You maybe are not using the search tools correctly there is a little thing called XDA-WiKi go there and there is all the information you will need. I could give you the link but then you won't learn how to find anything and tomorrow you'll be back asking someone how to change your boot sound. You know you can search GOOGLE and they will bring right back to XDA for what your looking for. You say you been looking for 2 days then your not digging in the right place or using the right tool. It took me 10 key strokes to get what your asking for. So I hope you take my advice you have set yourself up for a flame here by asking this kind of question. I have tried to help you but don't be surprised if you get flamed!

no problem
thanks junkmantis, i changed my animation. but when i tried to add the sound, i just got a really sharp noise instead of my sound effect. what did i do wrong?
Cheers dude, new here too and it's a;ways nice to read a 'summary' post.
still cannot get my splash sound to work, anyone knows the problem??
thanks in advance!!
Great post. Quick correction: the registry entry for the splash screen should be corrected
From:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\MICROSOFT\SPLASH SCREEN
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\SPLASH SCREEN
thanks peterfnet for the correction,
kaiserbb001, i am not sure, maybe something to do with the wav format?? anyone else knows?
Use schap's new Advanced Config 3.0 and check to see if animation is enabled. Also, the .wav file must be in \Windows. You can also use Schap's Advanced Config 3.0 to browse and choose the .wav file that you want to use.
Did all of this great the only problem I have is that my initial boot screen shows and then it stays on there until windows loads so its not showing welcomehead at all anymore, same goes for if I turn the animated splash on it will just show where the animation stopped until windows loads and totally bypasses the welcomehead.
Hope this will get you in the right direction!!

I've had my start wav sound do the same as yours ... and a "chipmunk" type fast sound play. I'm assuming the bitrate of my files isn't correct and I don't seem to be able to find the precise settings to create a wav to have it play properly. Can anyone supply this info please?

I found the image ms_screen320.png that I thought was the start up screen, looks the same, the green BG with D.P.T. and windows logo on it. I wanted to change it so I replaced it with my own image I made, same name, same png file. But it still shows the old one when I start up. in the same folder (windows) there is one titled ms_splash.png that is the other screen orientation (not lanscape). Does anyone know if changing that one will do it? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
*edit*
didn't change it, same start upscreen
hi, if u replace HTC_LogoImg_320x240 it will change the shout down screen and start up screen but the start up screen will be changed only after the orginal splash anyway.
in ur case the start up and shut down screen my be different you can check them by looking in registry here
HKEY_local_machine/system/shoutdown or startup - it give you the name of the files.
let me know if u managed to change it !
cudo
That points towards oemstartup.dll on start and shutdown. I don't see anything about an image at all. I don't have HTC_LogoImg_320x240 so it must not be on the dash. i wonder if its just one of those things that can't be changed..

Hello,
Does anyone know how to change or customize the boot screen (the screen that comes up just after you turn on the device)?
Thanks!
Kosta
funnily enough, if you use the search button up on the right and search for splash screen you will find it.
One hint though, if you don't find it here, try looking in the diamond forum in the same way.....
Umm yeah, right.
On this forum, can't find anything, searched it pretty much with different keywords, and on Diamond, there are only splashes for Diamond. I would like to have the official "TouchPro" splash.
Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool lets you do it, there's an option for Splash Screen and you can browse the device and find an image to use.
That is right, it allows to change the splash screen for the windows, but it doesn't change the boot logo, which appears BEFORE the splash screen. That one I ment. I think that can only be changed through cooking...or am I wrong? I don't want to destroy my device doing something wrong...

Oh, my bad... I haven't actually used it so I wasn't sure what it was/wasn't able to change.
I don't actually have a Touch Pro, but on my old wizard you had to use the RUU to flash a nk.nbf that only had the splash screen in it. Apparently its actually stored in the ROM. I'll hunt around a bit.

Please remember to use Google. Literally: i searched "touch pro splash screen" and the first link that came up had all the info you needed, including the default splash screen.
We are here to help you, but not to do your research for you. Use the Search Tool and Google, chances are your question has already been answered.

not that hard, the above link details the process and has tools to automate some of it.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread... and I am somewhat of a noob. Here goes- I have a Fuze and I want to get rid of the annoying 3g-Swoosh splash screen. I found the reg tweek to get rid of it and the sound, but I kinda wanted to try to make it something else. After reading this thread, I am not sure if this is right place to ask, as it seems there might have been an easier way... but at least I got here by using the search button.
Not too many options currently, a few splash screens, but other than the HTC Logo and 3G swoosh I do not know of many other replacements for the animated logo.
You can try searching in the HTC Universal forum and see if there are any other replacement animated.gif files.
Because of this lack of splashes and boot screens, I made myself fake BIOS / Boot Screen files to replace the images.
Which you can find here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467977
I found a few screens that replace the ATT 'World Phone' 1st screen. I am cool with keeping that. I am more interested in changing the animated /swoosh part and the immediatly following green screen. I remember it being pretty easy on my old 8525, but somehow this seems like a different ballgame altogether...
Loving my Fuze so far! Used the process to hard reset and remove the bloatware....not quite ready to take the plunge with a cooked ROM just yet...
On the home screen above the clock there is a bar that just lists the AT&T logo in the upper right. Nothing else. And because of it I have to scroll on my home screen to see everything.
How the heck do I get rid of this useless waste of real estate?
Interesting, I didn't even notice this but true, what a waste of space! I'm hoping for something like HCC, Home Screen Customizer coming back for Fuze, that was one great app!
You arent kidding! I'm a little bummed, my Tilt had more usable home screen space
hope some1 can find a way.
Two ways to do it:
1) go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2796868&posted=1#post2796868 and aply the original TF3D theme. It will also change your orange to green in the theme though
2) use the diamond TF3D configuration tool and go you tabs and remove 'unknown'
choice 1 -Don't care for change of color
choice 2 - Diamond config tool did not remove the AT&T logo -
Any other suggestions or ideas?
sorry- i didn't read the top post well enough. What I did is get rid of the AT&T tab which I hate. If you look at the other screens of TF3D there is always something on top- the first one should probably list Home but I guess it's true- we could all live without them all entirely...
Unzip and copy this file into the windows directory. Let me know if this works.
Thanks

That file already exists in the windows directory. Thus, no change. Still looking at the "AT&T" gray bar across the top of the screen.
I certainly appreciate you trying to help -
I removed the bar using the customizer but I think that qt&t is reading it from the operator name which may never be able to get read of unless someone really customizer tf3d.
FYI - That's not AT&T's doing. Look at all the unlocked TF3D screenshots. It's the line that lists what screen you are looking at or the carrier if it's the home screen. It's in all the cooked ROMs as well since it's part of the basic functionality.

First close TF3D, then extract file into windows directory, over writing existing file. Start TF3D again. Logo should be gone. Worked for me.
I am losing my touch with this Touch (Fuze) -
Could not overwrite - got error message that basically said that file is write protected and I do not have permission.
Tried to delete the original and then replace - again receive denials.
I have tried to, using a registry editor, make changes to the file (make it able to be read; edit it; rename it;, etc) without any success. All attempts have been rejected.
Perhaps I could trouble you as to how to either overwrite or delete and replace.
Thanks

Copy the file to somewhere else on the phone, maybe like a temp directory.
Then use TotalCommander to copy the file into windows directory.
Thats it.

Thanks - finally successful in removing the AT&T logo - however, the gray bar remains -
I certainly appreciate the efforts that you folks have gone to.
If we could move the date up to the empty space, that would be good.
Am I the only one that has both the date and AT&T on that line?
I wouldn't want to get rid of it, because it would mean getting rid of the date.
I'm using a sprint flip-clock, but I don't recall how it looked in stock form.
Standard factory ROM.
I think what you are wanting to get rid of is what I've seen on here referred to as the top "curtain". Do a search on that. I've seen it mentioned somewhere, but I couldn't find it off the bat.
This removes the curtain: http://www.ppcmobility.com/forums/showthread.php?t=261
Haven't tried it so I don't know if it does the trick
Hello guys.
I searched a lot on forum, but I cannot find a way to delete the orange screen with windows logo after the htc splash screen (or whatever image if you installed something else instead of htc one)... I mean: is it built in rom? I tried to change it with totalcommander using a different image and renaming it, but the original one is always present...
someone knows what to do?!?
thx
have you seen this?
of course.
and I am not talking about the first splash screen, but the second one. Try to cancel or edit the windows logo image... not possible for me
JWMD icon changer
its very easy without flashing your rom.....................
download (JWMD icon changer) someone had posted it here or you can google it. in options there is bonus feature options where you can change your animated screen even you can change windows default screen its.. easy and you dont have to flash your rom.
i hopt it will work, i have tried on my own device.
I thank you so much for the reply, mate.
It is exactly what I was looking for. Now I am searching the app and I am going to try. I hope it works...
PERFECT!
THX A LOT!
I have been up one side of the forums and down the other, and I still cannot find a solution. I have a Dell Axim X51v, running LennySH's WM6.1 A07 Beta 3 ROM, and I wanted to add a startup animation to replace the current splash screen. Currently, the screen displays the usual "Dell" screen, then The Windows Mobile 6.1 screen, then the password login. After logging in, the screen again displays the Windows Mobile 6.1 screen, then displays the desktop, after which point the other programs start, and the system releases to user control. I have attempted to load a startup animation, by creating the correct registry keys, and loading the required DLL's and .gif files into my "Windows" directory, but still no luck. What am I doing wrong?
re:startup animation
I found a way to do this on my xv6700 thru this forum. You can try and see if it works for you. You will need two tools. Schaps advanced configuration tool and Non-htc gif animation, If you have trouble finding it I will see if I can provide a link.
Got the .GIF... Now What?

Thanks for the pointers. I've created a fullscreen GIF to my specifications, and it already plays on my device, using my imaging program. I tried to find that configuration tool, and I found the developers thread... all 47 pages of it. I'm kinda stumped as to where to go from here.
looking around
You need to install BootPackage_v1.2_nonHTCbeta just google it exactly as I entered it and you'll find an xda with it. Install this and advanced configuration tool v3.3. Once installed open config tool, go to splash screen. Pick a background(jpg) for carrier and ms splash on start-up. Then go to htc animation, make sure animation says enabled. Pick a gif file for gif file: and start-up gif file. Pick animation speed. Try about 50 and adjust from there. Click done and reboot and hopefully you will see your gif followed by the splash. Good luck as I am not real familiar with your phone.
It Works!!
