xt720, replacing files in bp_nvm_default - Milestone XT720 General

Hi all,
Still wrapping my head around stuff after rooting my Korean xt720, so forgive the newbness. My biggest concern is if I could possibly get my phone to work back in Europe when I move back. Unfortunately, it's very tightly locked to SKT, so just using a european SIM doesn't work.
I know there's currently no way of flashing custom ROM:s on this device, but from what I understand, the files in /system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default are in some way related to the radio settings.
So, would replacing these files on my Korean xt720 with files from a UK xt720 accomplish anything? Or is the lock mechanism totally unrelated to those files?

A big thanks to this guy.

happy newb
I just got one of these phone....tell me that I'll be able to get rid of the ATT bullcrap!
Hi guys, is there someone that can help me with the root access of my backflip?
I'm from Italy and I'm pretty sure that It's not a good Idea to use the AT&T USA files
What's the correct sources file to use? EMARA? or LATAM?

Thank you and regards

you need to head over to modmymoto.com The emara is the one you need i think. the latam is for latin america afaik. the RAMDLD exploit may be present in your italian build. if this is the case Shrilax_CZ can make you a testflash of your fw.
Just a quick thought on this link that keeps popping up everywhere... After reading through most (if not all) of what was posted at the janky site, I'm figuring that what Infrared was able to do was ONLY because he appears to have the certs for signing packages and whatnot for Android development because of his job. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but what he's been able to accomplish, the average joe wouldn't be able to, right?
Trying to clear up my confusion on this matter. The rest of us are S-O-L at the moment, unless of course we were able to sign our packages, etc.
Let the schooling begin...

Exactly. He claims to have the keys everyone else needs. With out the production keys the source is worthless for our phones atm

I just want to install 2.1 when & how I want to not when Motorola finally decides to release the update. I would also like to be able to install a vanilla Android 2.1 without Motosuck. Or even (gasp!) An Android with Sense.
So I'm a bit confused.
Is this just stripping the ATT files, giving root access? Or is this a complete AOSP ROM?
I'm trying to root my friends' backflip (US ATT) and I don't think he cares about 2.1... I mean 1.6 would be fine. Just looking for an AOSP like ROM.
So has this phone been rooted. I'm gonna either get a backflip or a dell aero when it's released.

Not really. The post even gives some instructions on how to do it, but it can only be done with Motorola internal tools, which are not publicly available, or leaked yet.
If someone leaked the tools we might be able to root, but even if it happened, they would probably have to be leaked over again for any newer os builds to be rooted (like when 2.1 arrives in Q3).
Basically Motorola has locked this phone down in a way no other android device is, and there just aren't enough of them out there for people to spend a lot of time hacking on them.
I'm in a position it would be expensive for me to leave AT&T, but the only decent android device that will run 3G at this point is the Nexus One. I find it hard to cough up $529 for a phone that has issues with the touchscreen and hardware buttons, but I might do it anyway.
Hey guys, I'm pretty new to android (was a WM man then went to iPhone OS developing) but ATT just sent me this backflip and while yes it is a little limited I was wondering exactly what advantages to root there are? I've figured out how to side load my own homebrew apps and whatnot but what else could root allow us to do on the phone?
I'm assuming it would allow different cooks? and of course remove that ATT bull**** on the device. I kind of like blur, I definitely wouldn't be sad if it was gone but it isn't super terrible either.
just curious really

Could you elaborate on the "side loading" process?
Idk if this help AT ALL but let me know!
I got into Safe Mode and I'm using Astro file manager and I got into /etc/security folder which has attcacerts file, cacerts file, manfacerts file and otacerts file. I had seen that we were waiting for the certificate files or something and had stumbled upon these. I looked in the attcacerts one and there was alot of coding with root in them and stuff so I don't know if this can be used or not. Let me know. Thanks.

I need some help with my CDMA Milestone

Hello everyone,
I bought a Milestone from MTS (Manitoba Telecom Services) a couple months ago, but only recently discovered that it won't be receiving ANY updates. You know, like the 2.2 update that gives you flash, even though the Milestone is advertised as being "flash-ready" on Motorola's website? Anyway, I've decided to take the matter into my own hands and try updating it myself. Problem is, I'm pretty scared of bricking my phone. I've taken a look at quite a few guides, but none of them seem to have any information about my carrier, just Telus stuff which I'm not sure is safe or not to use on my device. I'd really appreciate some tips on how to do this correctly.
Here's some more information about my phone:
Milestone A854
Carrier: MTS (CDMA)
Firmware 2.1-update1
P.S: Motorola and MTS can suck it.
do a seach on the forums man. theres a whole board devoted to your phone. and dont worry, becuase flashing roms and such is software oremented, not hardware, theres little to no chance at all that you could mess the phone up beyond any state of use.
I've been searching for quite a while, but have still made no progress with my phone. Every time I try and flash the vulnerable recovery file, I get an error. My bootloader is 2C.6C.
Are you rooted? May be dumb question

OTA and Unlock Check Blocking after Unlock

It's my understanding that if you accept and flash the OTA after unlocking the S3, it will most likely be bricked. I read that one needs to rename FWUpgrade.apk, FWUpgrade.odex, SDM.apk and SDM.odex to block the OTAs, but I cannot find either of those files anywhere on the phone. I also read that tamper/unlock checking done by VZW (?) can be blocked as well, but couldn't find what files needed to be deleted or renamed, nor where those files are. Could someone take a few moments and explain the process(es) of blocking OTA updates and VZW/Samsung unlock checks? Thanks.
Good question, also interested!
I wonder, if the files aren't there, if they may have been removed by the rom.
What rom are you using? Or is the phone otherwise stock?
OT: but I find it kind of backwards that they'd work to lock it back up. It's a niche community that was able to unlock it and we're obviously blatantly avoiding the locked bootloader. Locking it, I'm sure, would cause an increased number of insurance claims if it does indeed brick phones

Well I think a post-unlock OTA flash hosing up phones has more to do with software issues than VZW trying to lock them back up. To answer your question, I am running SynergyROM and I have read in several places that the OTA blocking was incorporated, but I just wanted to make sure of that. I'd much rather they renamed the files than deleted them, in case they were needed in the future for OTA reasons or for some other issue that may arise. Generally speaking, renaming is always better than deleting. Memory is abundant and unless it is a 2GB file, why not just rename instead?

Agreed. It would also be easier to confirm the files were indeed modified (blocked)

[Q] Network Lock Control Code

Hi folks-
Sorry for what might be stupid questions but I'm super excited about this phone, and I just want to get it working right so I don't break it like I did my last one. I am trying to get this to work on T-Mobile in the USA.
I flashed my phone to a stock Gingerbread yesterday, and then flashed a stock ICS on top of it. When I started things up within the ICS OS with my sim card in, it started asking me for a network lock control key.
Ultimately, I need this phone to be in an unrooted state for software I have installed through work (it scans for superuser/root, quarantines you if it finds it). Is there any way I can unlock this phone again - through flashing or software - without rooting the phone?
Or, if I go the "root" route, is there any way that will maintain the software that's in the phone - like, without completely flashing a new OS? And if so, can I disable the software from running while the root is on and the unlock is taking place?
I am happy to clarify any questions - I am learning all about this and am thankful I have a Samsung to work with (since Samsung seems to be simpler than all others) - but I have had little to no success with rooting in the past and so would consider myself a complete novice. I've read through the forums and found similar solutions for Galaxy Note/Galaxy SIII but do not know how applicable they are to this beautiful piece of machinery that is the Galaxy R.
Thanks in advance. Sorry if this is a stupid question

Just want to make sure I understand how this works (G930FD International)

Hey guys! So, I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S7 (G930FD) from Amazon almost 2 years ago. I ordered what I thought was the International EU version, but they sent me instead it seems the Asia version. I say that because the keyboard switches between the qwerty keyboard and a chinese keyboard. Also because it looks like the phone is still available on Amazon and the model G930FD is now marked as the Asian version, likely Hong Kong. It's worked great, and I've really liked it. A while back, Samsung Pay was finally pushed to it, but it was all in chinese, and very difficult to use. I tried to update it with a newer version the other day and I think I screwed it up. It keeps trying to update it and failing, so now I can't use it anymore. So, I figure maybe this is an opportunity to try something new? So, I've been trying to read as much as I can from this site and others to see how it works, and I think I understand, I just want to make sure...
It sounds like the model G930FD and G930F are mostly interchangeable when it comes to OS's. It also sounds like there are OS's (aka ROM's I think?) that are native to different geographic areas, and each has it's own software and features etc. I Don't know that a US ROM would work on this model as it's an exynos, and the US models are not, so what if I chose a UK ROM to replace the Asian version with? Will that work? Also, if I put on an official ROM, does it still allow the OTA updates to occur for that country? I'd like to keep that happening if possible. Makes it a lot easier to keep things up to date... I have no interest in rooting, nor in using some hacked ROM, or anything like that. Just keep it simple.
So is that possible to do? I've found a couple of instructions here and there for how to do the actual flashing, using an app called Odin, and I've downloaded a ROM from the UK, the most recent one I can find from last month. I assume this will probably erase everything on my phone and I'll have to restore from a backup and re-install all my apps, etc?
