[Q] DSLR Remote App - Android Apps and Games

Are there any apps available like those on the iPhone that can be a wireless shutter remote for DSLR cameras?
Thanks

I would like to know this as well. I would luv to use my Evo with my 50D

How does the iPhone app work? most remotes are infrared, and the iPhone doesn't have an IR port.
I can't see how it would work without bluetooth/WiFi built into the camera.

The camera has to be constantly connected to a laptop or Desktop via USB Cable.
You then have to install a server onto the Laptop/Desktop and that is how the Ip/Itouch controls the camera.
Was excited by the idea until i did a bit more reading. Shame really would be a good idea if it could be done without the need for anything to be physically attached to the camera.

Makes sense, I thought it might have been one of those IR plugs you plug into the headphone jack. You play back an audio file that is translated by the IR plug into the right controls for the camera. You can make the IR plug thing for only a few $, I think there's a guide on Instructables.

Remote Control APP

Anyone ever see an app so you can use your phone as a remote control? Specifically for like your comcast DVR? I searched forever and couldn't find anything. I though it might be awesome if you could change channels, etc on your DVR through your phone. Might not be available yet. Just wondering
You won't find such an app only because there is no IR built-in to the phone. However, if they came out with a contraption like they did with the iPhone where it plugs into the headphone jack, then maybe...but stand alone...won't happen.

Also Comcast CAN do it there is just not an app for it yet. it would go threw your wifi signal as long as your box is connected to the internet!

[Q] Video Out

What kind of modification did google make to the largest Nexus S in bustbuy to have Video out? don't really matter if its video out or hdmi.
techcrunch.com/2010/12/23/giant-nexus-s/
could it be something like a displaylink plugged to it?
i remembered someone did something similar onto a nexus one by reversing the USB port to be a host instead of a slave.
sven.killig.de/android/N1/2.2/usb_host/
any ideas?
or maybe the nexus S does has a video out device.

honestly i have no idea how he would even know its a real NS inside, it could be..you know not
It's probably an opened up phone with a splice from the board to the display.

true, maybe they did just open up a phone remove the screen and take the connections that would normally be used for a screen and hooked em up to the screen using google voodoo
how i hope there is some sort of external hardware to do video out.
i remember reading it somewhere that SGS can do video out via the 3.5mm jack, but not the NS.
www.intomobile.com/2010/07/02/samsung-galaxy-s-video-out-through-3-5mm-headphone-jack-um-yes/
or maybe like streaming straight onto your telly via DLNA. that will be awesome.
I would be interested in this as well, but sadly the SGS and NS are not 100% identical inside.
I used a 3.5mm jack output with a white and yellow connector thingy on the end, sorry for being so technical lol but only the sound played out through the tv no video using the youtube app.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
that would make sense because it is you know, a headphone jack
I think his idea, was that on the SGS that wsa the video out port as well.
using the special nokia 3.5 video out cable
i have the cable, but i don't have an old TV / VCR to test it with.... all my TVs, Monitors, Projectors, Video Players, etc, are all HDMI or DVI or VGA inputs
LOL
it's so hard to find an old RCA inputs now in days

Possible to use HDMI as input?

Wondering if anyone knows how possible it would be to use the HDMI port to receive/display signal on the g2x? What I'd like to do, is use the phone as an external monitor while filming with the Canon t2i DSLR camera. I would think there is a pretty large market for an app that could make this work.
Anyone? Just want to know if it's possible. Would be willing to donate towards getting an app made that would display input from HDMI.
out of the box i am 99.9% certain that the phone does not have a video in feature either in terms of hardware or driver support...
cool concept though, would be sick to have a feature like this
I'm under the impression that HDMI signals can travel both ways. therefore the HDMI port wouldn't be referred to as HDMI-out, just HDMI.
I never though about this being a driver controlled thing, but you may be right. I believe the hardware is there tho.

[Q] HDMI Switch infrared remote?

I have an Hdmi switch as my TV only has one Hdmi slot.
I have 4 things plugged in such as laptop, chromecast, playstation, sky TV.
My question is regarding the remote for the switch. I've got a infrared receiver that goes with it (plugs into what looks like a 3.5mm jack)
The remote is Crap. You have to get really close to it. So if I'm sitting down, I usually have to get up or lean really far forward.
I've tried making an infrared remote on my LG g3 by making it learn the signals from the remote. It says it successfully learns them, but it doesn't actually work when I press the button from my phone. Even up close. Why is this?
Also, is there a better infrared receiver and remote that I could possibly use with this?
Or is there a better, more expensive switch? It's just a £10 generic one from eBay really.
Thanks!
Anyone?
No?
This is a shame. Thought someone here would know

3.5mm ir blasters ?

Anyone know if 3.5mm infrared blaster work with the pixel ? I've seen some online for around 5$
Should I take the plunge ?
You should try, I used my IR Blaster on my GS6 a lot and would love to have one on the Pixel
Please post some you've found, and the one you land on.
^&
I have an extended ir blaster that has a 3.5mm jack....
I'm gonna test with it first before purchasing one of the small units.
I heard some phones don't put out enough power through the 3.5mm jack so they have to use viper4android as a workaround.
The other issue is only some remote apps will work.
I will update with my findings.
I tried to link devices but this XDA app won't let me paste for some reason.
After looking around, it looks like there are a couple of different "slim" models (each sold under different names from China).
This style (Universal 3.5mm IR) consistently says it works with android
This style (Slim Keychain consistently says it does not work with android
At less than a dollar each, I ordered one of each that I linked here, but they will of course be on the slow boat from China, so I won't be able to test them for a while.
There are also others, but I really only want the slim style like the keychain version. Plus I don't want to spend a lot of money testing these.

Do you have any links for how to make viper4android a workaround? I just got this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M2VC6G7/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but can't it to work yet.
Update
After trying every possible setting in viper4android, I couldn't get the adapter to work. Putting it right up next to the ir receiver in the TV, just in case the signal was too weak, didn't help. Tried several apps. ZaZaremote recognizes that it is there, but I can't get it to send a signal.
2 other adapters are incoming, and I'll try them when they come.

If powers on ? Just doesn't send signals ?
I've heard that some lol had to turn up the voltage to the headphone jack ....
Have you tried any other Android devices
And what apps did you try to use ?

There is no way that indicates it "powering on", but ZaZaRemote auto recognizes that there is an IR device attached.
I've turned up the "Playback Gain Control" in V4A, made no difference.
I tried using my Galaxy S4 (has a built in IR blaster). Using ZaZaRemote, the built in IR blaster works, but can't get the 3.5mm device to work.
Apps Tested
ZaZaRemote
Peel Smart Remote
Universal IR Controller
Universal IR TV Remote Control
RCoid free- IR Remote Control
IR Remote Control
IR Universal Remote
ASmart Remote IR
Updates?
Any updates on this?
Did anyone find the sleekest, Android-supporting, IR Blaster for the headphone jack (that actually works 3 to 5 meters away from the device)?
Its a real shame that none of these 3.5 mm blasters work. The built in IR blaster is one of my favorite features of the Note 4, but Samsung decided that its not popular enough for newer models. I hate to give it up.
According to this article you need to turn it on.
After you download the app “ZazaRemote”, and you plug the Jakcom IR one into the headphones jack, then you need to turn it right. That is how you turn it on. In order to turn it off you turn it left. There is no need to plug and unplug it since you can decide when you want to turn it on and off.

I don't know what it exactly means because my IR Blaster hasn't arrived yet but it seems it's saying that you need to rotate the blaster to the right when it's plugged? Or maybe there's a part that rotates?
I purchased a slim 3.5mm ir and have had no luck. The directions from china says to use zaza remote. Like mentioned in this posting zaza recognizes there is something in the headphone jack, but I haven't had any successful results. If you don't know this already you can use a phone camera to see if ir signal is lighting up by point your camera at the IR emitter on your remote control and hitting buttons on the remote. I used this method to see if anything was coming out of the 3.5mm ir in my headphone jack and I got no lights at all while using the zaza remote app.(suggested by the hardware i purchased) I also replied on eBay to the Chinese company saying it didn't work and they sent me another one with the exact same results. The part about rotating to turn it on is because 50% of the tip of the 3.5 plug doesn't have a metal contact. This means you can rotate the entire plug and its as if you don't have anything plugged in. I thought the rotate for disconnection part was clever, to bad I wasn't able to get this to work.
None work then?
I bought one from aliexpress and it didnt work.
So none of the ones tested above work? I want to use it in a Note 8. Tia!
