Remote Control APP - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

Anyone ever see an app so you can use your phone as a remote control? Specifically for like your comcast DVR? I searched forever and couldn't find anything. I though it might be awesome if you could change channels, etc on your DVR through your phone. Might not be available yet. Just wondering

You won't find such an app only because there is no IR built-in to the phone. However, if they came out with a contraption like they did with the iPhone where it plugs into the headphone jack, then maybe...but stand alone...won't happen.

Well he could always switch to Verizon! I use this app. WORK PERFECTLY on hero even though it says it wont.
**EDIT**
Wrong URL here ya go

Also Comcast CAN do it there is just not an app for it yet. it would go threw your wifi signal as long as your box is connected to the internet!

Ipod "emulator"?

While I know that Apple has all of their information locked up tighter than Fort Knox, I was wondering if it would be feasible to create an application to "act like" an Ipod with other hardware. IE my head unit in my car that works wonderfully with Ipod but cannot even "see" my Android phones.
If that's not possible at all, is there a way to get my head unit to see my N1 as an actual jump drive (which is supported by the unit)?

I hope I don't get beat up over this, but... "Head Unit"? I can assume you mean a Bluetooth stereo headset possibly?
My Kensington Bluetooth Stereo headset works fine with my nexus... But again, not sure if this is what you are referring to.
I think maybe he is referring to an audio in port that recognizes ipods, but not his nexus one maybe?
Im sure by head unit he means his car's stereo. and If you can get the nexus into USB drive mode your stereo should recognize it.
I am referring to a USB connection to my "car stereo". Not using Bluetooth.
When I am connected to my g/f's iPod, it works so seamlessly it's insane. Shows album art, all things are controlled directly from the head unit ....
I guess looking for an interface to communicate between the head unit and the N1. Would presume it's possible since the interface protocol is in the wild for devs. I just personally don't know a darned thing about it.

What head unit do you have, and how do you like it? (Offtopic, yes, but I'm looking for a new, good head unit for my car that has great iPod functionality. )
Well I have a double din and not sure what you require. I am running the Pioneer AVH-P3200DVD. It really has come a long way with integration. Just wish others would realize there is much more out there than Mac-n-Crap.
try and mount the phones sd card when it is plugd in to the Head Unit
and use bplayer or meridian as music app Works for me
The problem isn't the phone, it's the unit.
I have a Pioneer as well (http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-Premi..._6?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1274031647&sr=1-6)
And it's the same ****. Won't recognize my Zune at all through the USB, and it sometimes recognizes the android phone when it's set to USB, but then it grabs every audio file in the phone, which is a bunch of crap i don't want.
But anyway, It's because Pioneer only made it support/look for apple devices. So anything else it just doesn't recognize. On mine the only thing that works perfectly is a USB flash drive. i have an 8GB unit pluged in with all my music and it works perfectly. but try anything else and it rarely works.
And unfortunately, just like you said, you'd need to make the phone look like an ipod and add all that software in, which just isn't possible.
So basically, your gonna have to get it to work by mounting the USB, or using another media player such as the ones jtz100 mentioned.

A USB mounting app? As in the auto mount?
Going to test out Meridian in a few but I would love to see someone emulate the iPod interface so that our phones will work with any and all "Crapple" devices.

Infuse Car Dock

I picked up the Infuse Car dock with my Infuse and I LOVE IT. It works great, its very very good build quality. Nice to have the dock always plugged in for power and I can just pop my phone in and go. Also really nice that Samsung Car Home auto opens when I plug it in to the dock.
To anyone that uses their phone for calls or music while driving I highly recommend it.
Did you pick it up at an AT&T store? I am eager to check one out, as I plan to use the phone quite a bit as GPS unit for my car.
Thanks!

I bought both as well. AT&T had special that if you buy two accessories you get the third free.
Infuse should arrive tomorrow so I'll be able to try them out. I have always used ProClip USA's mounts but will compare it to Samsung's. I currently have an adjustable adaptor that works with iPhone 3G and Captivate within protective cases. They have holders for naked units that fit perfectly, but it is a hassle to remove phones from Otterboxes only to put them back after short rides.
i just got the home dock but am returning it. the reason is that it is not flexible enough. it has a micro usb port but it will not pass through the usb connection to my computer so i can mount the sdcard or pass through mhl to hdmi. this makes it no more than a 40$ charger that holds the phone.
i have a bad micro usb cable that i plan to make into a jig that can trip the dock mode or other things. i can hack up the dock but would rather exchange it for the car dock. i also want to see how much a second mhl adapter is. i would like to make an all in one dock.
Car Dock application
I purchased a Infuse yesterday with the car dock. The only way we can get the phone to send audio out through the docks 3.5mm is by using the Samsung Car Home application. This application is lacking to say the least. I've tried CarHome Ultra and still no audio through the dock.
Is there a work around for this or another dock application that works?
Thanks,
JAFO

All i use is BT audio when in the dock, it works amazing! The BT actually sounds good unlike the Atrix/Inspire did.
Media volume output seems too low through 3.5mm and bluetooth. Anyone share opinion?

With the media volume at full, with BT using Music Player or Pandora I can keep my Stereo on 15 and it sounds nice and clear and loud. To get the same volume out of Sirius or the Radio I am usually up around 20. I haven't tried the 3.5mm jack.

Its freaking AMAZING! ALL audio goes through the bluetooth like watching a news cast with flash, watching a baseball game, and of course bluetooth calling. Its all plug and play and anyone can do it!

Hope that helps!

Hey thanks, it works! But the only bad thing is that the sound is still bad. There is no BASS hardly at all compared to the sound the headphone port throws out. This is the same problem with the Samsung car dock app. Its like Samsung crossed the wires when soldering the wires to the port. It sounds like mono and not STEREO. I wish this could be fixed?

[Q] Do we like this FM Transmitter/charger?

This little adapter is really well-reviewed on Amazon. Satisfied users mention Droid, EVO 4G, Incredible, Nexus One, etc. but no Charge.
Seems reasonable to expect it to work given such widespread Android compatibility but does anyone have firsthand experience?
I have had that one for a while now. It worked great on my D1 and now I use it on my Charge. Streams music and it sounds great. It has a volume control on it also. You can charge your phone at the same time. One of the best buys I have made.
Thanks, mon. I'm off to order now.
Just so I understand, you use the headphone jack for audio, USB to charge.
Rather than playing through the USB alone?
If I had an easy way to connect in my car, I'd go ahead and sub to spotify. This could be it.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Actually I only use the bluetooth connection for sound. That way I can stream music and if I get a call I can hear it over the car speakers. I use the USB to keep the phone charged. I have never used the audio cable. Have you received it yet and if so how do you like it?
I'm thinking of picking this up, I'd probably wanna use a cig splitter since I don't particularly care that the usb port on this is only 650mah. Is it strong enough to run music and nav and keep the phone charged? or recommend a cig splitter so we can use the official cig charger from verizon?
I can't answer that question yet. I should get my car dock today and I haven't used it for nav yet. I have used it to stream music and voice.
Received mine yesterday but haven't had a chance to mess with it. I'm really hoping it charges effectively, I'm getting ready to search and/or post here about how HUGELY I'm disappointed in the Charge's battery life.
let us know hehe, thinking of either this or getting a new head unit for my car with bluetooth built in. Right now I use the aux jack on my radio, but I want to get rid up as much excess cabling as possible. Any fan of cable tidyness would agree hehe.
lol I am a total nutcase....was going to get this accessory but figured...why not just upgrade my head unit to one with bluetooth......and while at it picked up new speakers to replace the stock ones......ARGH, coulda just spent the ~$50 and been done with it instead of the $478 for the new HU, speakers, and install (which is tomorrow ^.^)
Don't follow in my tracks, save your money and get this LOL
Now that is one approach to a problem I am not sure I would have even thought of, lol.
Let's see... spend $50 or 10 times that??????
I can see your dilemma.
ya but spending 10 times as much nets me a much nicer audio systems with integrated awesomeness.....hehe I get it installed in an hour I'll report back.
Anyways to keep this post on target...we need more testers for that fm transmitter! Get on it folk!

where are you getting it installed? im thinking of getting a headunit too but i dont know how to install it and im really bad with cars.
ya, get the professionals on that one...even if it is best buy...at least if they **** up its on them. After using my new stereo for 2 days, I have to say this....nothing beats the aux input cord.....bluetooth streaming is too poor, wicked hissy. still nice to have the bluetooth only for phone calls though.
Funny, I have never had the hissy sound over bluetooth. My streaming with the GOgroove Flexsmart X2 has always sounded as good as the radio and I have the Bose system in my Trailblazer.
thats weird. it may be the bluetooth adapter I have *shrugs* it sounds beauuuutiful through the line out on the car dock into the aux in on my HU, but if I only use it for calls oh well, it works hehehe
I'll chime in to say that bluetooth streaming in a rental Ford was superb. No static or hissing, full Spotify goodness.
I'd take my unit it back, if I were you. Shouldn't be problematic.

ive been using this one from walmart
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Scosche-FM-Transmitter/16652629
its inexpensive and works really well. I bought a few others from bestbuy and they always sucked and had poor sound quality for double the price, i saw this at walmart one day and said "what the hell" and picked it up, i was very surprised at how well it worked. It has a small profile, and even plays mp3s off an SD card if you want, though I have never used that feature. It has a remote as well.
I just bought a 2nd one for my wife, and ive been using mine for about a year now, its rock solid.
highly recommended. Also... its walmart, if it ever breaks just bring it back
It looks like that one from WalMart is a FM Transmitter only. The one we are talking about in this thread is not only a FM Transmitter but also a Bluetooth connector to our Phones so we can hold a conversation and hear it over the vehicles radio system. So it looks to me that it does everything the WalMart one does, except for the memory card slot, and much more.

Bluetooth calling options for car?

I've read a lot about options for getting bluetooth audio in the car, and even started a thread on it. But after thinking about it more, I realized that if I was going to have bluetooth audio in the car, I might as well be able to take calls in the car, as well. I tried the Belkin adapter, and it's great for receiving music and calls, but the sound from my end on calls is disappointing. I've called people from it and also have left myself voicemails and listened to them, and it just doesn't sound very good.
Any advice on bluetooth for the car that has good call audio? Been considering maybe this GoGroove one. Also, this Kinivo doesn't look too bad.
It's a bit more expensive than those options and doesn't work with every vehicle but I just put a grom audio adapter in my honda pilot. It pretends to be a cd changer, I got the box with aux in, usb and bluetooth capability then added on the Bluetooth module and auxillary in+charging cable and it ended up being like 200 shipped. At the cheapest end you could get the box that just does bluetooth and aux for 74.99 then add on the bluetooth for 49.99 (the box comes with bluetooth capability but the actual bluetooth module is an addon). You mount the microphone where you cant it and plug the box into the back of the radio. It works well for me and everyone can hear me just fine... well everyone except my dad but he's been going deaf for years now.

I can speak for it, I own it (bought it last week)
Syncs up quick, Unlike the similar Belkin (looks better, has issues) the buttons are useful, the big center area is a giant play/pause button, it also has a foward\back button on one side. Call quality is great, have had no complaints when using it, streams music well. Very simple setup.
The only thing I don't like is the cable is permanently attached and very thin/fragile. This isn't an issue if you properly mount/set it up (IE hide it behind plastic panels)
The charger doesn't put out much, I believe around 700mA, and it does take up my one and only 12v jack meaning I can't easily use a better phone charger without hardwiring something.

There's always this.
Just bought a new car 2 months ago. It has no bluetooth and I was tired of my fm adapter so I was looking for a new solution. Considered everything from 600$ full CD player replacements that had bluetooth enabled to some of the more internal installation ones around 150. Ended up going with the Kinvio off Amazon just to try it and see how well it works.
Here is what makes it 10x better then the Belkin: Autoconnect. When you turn your car on it turns on and your phone automatically connects. With the Belkin apparently you have to hit the button every time you want to connect.
I've been told the audio quality is good and while people know im on speakerphone they can hear me clearly. The audio quality for me is great, I'm not an audiophile but it certainly seems clear to me. Would definitely recommend it for the price.
I put a bluefusion unit in my truck and loved it. It plugged in behind the radio, install took about thirty minutes. It still allowed use of my steering wheel controls. It tricked the radio into thinking the Bluetooth was xm..... retails for over $200 but are for sale all over the net for $40-60.

so am i correct in my thinking:
1) pair my phone with the Kinovo
2) Music (from google music) will go out TO my microsoft SYNC system VIA Line OUT FROM the Kinovo
3) Phone calls, incoming/outgoing, will go TO my microsoft SYNC system VIA bluetooth FROM the Kinovo ((instead of LINE out! so i can still take advantage of answering calls from my steering wheel and seeing names on the cars LCD etc ...)
Alright, I'm giving the Kinivo a try.

3.5mm ir blasters ?

Anyone know if 3.5mm infrared blaster work with the pixel ? I've seen some online for around 5$
Should I take the plunge ?
You should try, I used my IR Blaster on my GS6 a lot and would love to have one on the Pixel
Please post some you've found, and the one you land on.

I have an extended ir blaster that has a 3.5mm jack....
I'm gonna test with it first before purchasing one of the small units.
I heard some phones don't put out enough power through the 3.5mm jack so they have to use viper4android as a workaround.
The other issue is only some remote apps will work.
I will update with my findings.
I tried to link devices but this XDA app won't let me paste for some reason.
After looking around, it looks like there are a couple of different "slim" models (each sold under different names from China).
This style (Universal 3.5mm IR) consistently says it works with android
This style (Slim Keychain consistently says it does not work with android
At less than a dollar each, I ordered one of each that I linked here, but they will of course be on the slow boat from China, so I won't be able to test them for a while.
There are also others, but I really only want the slim style like the keychain version. Plus I don't want to spend a lot of money testing these.

Do you have any links for how to make viper4android a workaround? I just got this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M2VC6G7/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but can't it to work yet.
Update
After trying every possible setting in viper4android, I couldn't get the adapter to work. Putting it right up next to the ir receiver in the TV, just in case the signal was too weak, didn't help. Tried several apps. ZaZaremote recognizes that it is there, but I can't get it to send a signal.
2 other adapters are incoming, and I'll try them when they come.

There is no way that indicates it "powering on", but ZaZaRemote auto recognizes that there is an IR device attached.
I've turned up the "Playback Gain Control" in V4A, made no difference.
I tried using my Galaxy S4 (has a built in IR blaster). Using ZaZaRemote, the built in IR blaster works, but can't get the 3.5mm device to work.

Did anyone find the sleekest, Android-supporting, IR Blaster for the headphone jack (that actually works 3 to 5 meters away from the device)?
Its a real shame that none of these 3.5 mm blasters work. The built in IR blaster is one of my favorite features of the Note 4, but Samsung decided that its not popular enough for newer models. I hate to give it up.
According to this article you need to turn it on.
After you download the app “ZazaRemote”, and you plug the Jakcom IR one into the headphones jack, then you need to turn it right. That is how you turn it on. In order to turn it off you turn it left. There is no need to plug and unplug it since you can decide when you want to turn it on and off.

I don't know what it exactly means because my IR Blaster hasn't arrived yet but it seems it's saying that you need to rotate the blaster to the right when it's plugged? Or maybe there's a part that rotates?
I purchased a slim 3.5mm ir and have had no luck. The directions from china says to use zaza remote. Like mentioned in this posting zaza recognizes there is something in the headphone jack, but I haven't had any successful results. If you don't know this already you can use a phone camera to see if ir signal is lighting up by point your camera at the IR emitter on your remote control and hitting buttons on the remote. I used this method to see if anything was coming out of the 3.5mm ir in my headphone jack and I got no lights at all while using the zaza remote app.(suggested by the hardware i purchased) I also replied on eBay to the Chinese company saying it didn't work and they sent me another one with the exact same results. The part about rotating to turn it on is because 50% of the tip of the 3.5 plug doesn't have a metal contact. This means you can rotate the entire plug and its as if you don't have anything plugged in. I thought the rotate for disconnection part was clever, to bad I wasn't able to get this to work.
None work then?
I bought one from aliexpress and it didnt work.
So none of the ones tested above work? I want to use it in a Note 8. Tia!

Apps Tested
ZaZaRemote
Peel Smart Remote
Universal IR Controller
Universal IR TV Remote Control
RCoid free- IR Remote Control

do you have a list of those who didn't work? maybe there are some new models out by now, so if I give it a try and buy some, I won't buy those who don't work.
