Problem with phonebook (fc on contact view) - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

Ive got 026 rooted..used the one click method. today i started removing a few apps like timescape and moxier, but no apps that seem to have anything to do with the phonebook. The problem is that when i press a contact in the phonebook nothing happends, and when i long press it and press view contact it forcecloses ("the application phonebook (process android.process.acore)...". If i want a number I can however just press "edit before call" and see it. But I still can't access the contact itself.
Any ideas on whats going on?
thanks!

Unfortunately a lot of people have ran into this issue.. the cause is timescape.. you should avoid removing it! however you can use other apps such as acontacts, quickcall, takephone, etc without worrying about the errors. altho if u prefer the SE version then you might have to reroot unles someone knows another way.. maybe pushing it back somehow into the system or something!
Hope it helps!!

thanks for the reply!
well isnt it possible to reinstall timescape? isnt it just a normal apk?
if not, do you recommend any of those apps you mentioned?

I think people have tried but I don't think they had much luck but who knows someone may prove me wrong..
As for them apps ive tried them three theyre al gud.. u myt fancy the takephone 1.. I think thats the name or myt b takeaphone.. do correct me if I'm wrong people !

I like aContacts, but have also tried Phonebook 2.0. Both are free on the market and run without issues on an X10 with Timescape removed.
As for re-installing Timescape, it apparently can be done without re-rooting, but the process isn't as simple as simply loading the APK from a backup, as it's considered a core component of the system on an X10.

I also have the same problem today, using original firmware of X10, and wuth Timescape. I have to reboot my phone and it's back to.normal, you can try it!

[Q] help with force close

hi, first let me say any help is appreciated...
i bought an archos 7c tablet which has literally zero support on the company website (it just came out in april) i was using it only for a few hours after i bought it and installed adw ex home app. after restarting it just keeps saying adw ex force close. on every other android device i've had there has been a way to get into recovery but apparently not this thing. the power button is a slider and theres a reset pin button, no other hardware button and no known way to boot up to recovery to data wipe. it looks like my only option might be to just wait for a firmware update from archos...
before the issues started i did manage to set up my gmail and i am still getting emails to it (showing up in the notification bar) and i can open them, i never got around to install tattachapkinstaller tho so i can't install apk's through it.
so...
my idea to get around it i had a bit ago was maybe if i could send myself a link to my settings.apk... i could open up my settings through the shortcut i could send myself in my gmail, then i could go into privacy and do a factory data reset... if this is possible... or if someone has a better idea please let me know.
So I fixed it myself... sent myself a link to http://mail.Google.com which opened up my browser and allowed me to open my tablets browser without use of a home launcher. I sent myself the u installer apk which I then installed through my browser. This could be a solution for others but it really is depending on a couple things, number one u would probably need to have third party app installs enabled, even tho I think if u troy to install an apk it will shoot u over to where u can turn third party installs on if u don't have it enabled already. Secondly u need to have an email address set up to send urself an html link in order to open your internet browser which u can use to download any app which may help u fix ur problem. I simply got the uninstaller apk and uninstalled adw ex. Good as new.

android.process.media force close! FIX

I know some of you have been having problems with a force close message that looks like this: Android.process.media is not responding please force close or retry.
I have done search after search only to find one way that ultimately fixes this annoying every second force close message.
1. Make sure your phone is rooted.
2. Using a file explorer of your choice go into the directories as follows:
/system/app/
3. Delete this file from the menu, mediaprovider.apk
4. Force close messages will now stop. Horray!
If you have questions post them. I will do my best to answer.

i tried it on my G2 and it hasn't worked yet. Had to give ES FileExplorer root.
Have a great morning!
..........
media.process force close issue rooted htc desire
I fixed this problem without any further issues by clearing the download cache - I'm just as surprised as you.

Yea like I said you must have a rooted phone!!!. Did it work after you gave es file root?
Another great program in root explorer. You can get it from ww w. 4shared .co m
Go there type in rootexplorer .apk and it will have multiple downloads. Just pick one and run it.
You can get all the paid apps for free like that. Just type in .apk after the app you want is typed in for example: rootexplorer .apk or irunner .apk or androidbanking .apk..... you get the picture?

Or you could get it from the market, and pay for it, and support the developers. But if you want to be a thief, that's your decision.

It never ceases to amaze me how people can justify being a thief.
If 4 bucks is out of line, how is it you could afford your phone in the first place?

+ 1, a one time payment of $4 for something useful is nothing.

why patronize piracy?
I live in Asia, where pirated software/apps are more prevalent than legit ones. That is because software like Microsoft Windows is economically out of reach for the man on the street.
But $3.99? Come on! We shouldn't expect devs to continue churning out useful code without getting paid for it. If the developers of Titanium Backup or Root Toolbox had decided early on that it wasn't worth it to develop apps for Android or WinMo, we'd all still be in the Dark Ages of the cellphone era. Making custom ROMs is not the same. For one, many of them were based on stock firmware--which were made by highly-paid software engineers at phone makers in the first place.
What the Android Market offers for free, I download for free. When it has a price and I need it, I pay for it. Simple as that.
1) the fix listed above worked perfectly for me. (HD2, gingerbread, CM7)
2) paying for an app is the right thing to do. free ones are preferred, of course. you know it, i know it, they know it. support open source, support the community. pay it forward.

Yep, this is actually a horrible fix. For me, it did nothing except stop me from accessing any of my media. So if you don't care about listening to music, viewing any photos, having ringtones, viewing video you have taken etc, this MIGHT work for you. I had to dig out the mediaprovider.apk from the .zip of my ROM and replace it.
I fixed mine by restoring my last Titanium Backup ("restore all apps with data"). Whatever was corrupted was restored back to working order. I understand that not everyone has Titanium Backup, but it has save my a$$ a couple of times now when an app or system file has started acting weird. Root your phone and get TB, it's so worth it.
EDIT: OK, so the problem came back after I replaced mediaprovider.apk, so apologies for that. I booted into recovery and did a factory/data reset, then restored my Titanium Backup, and all seems to be good now. Again, I understand this may not help everyone, but it worked for me, and it avoids deleting apk files without fully understanding what effect it will have.
Help
I have a droid 2 global. i tried deleting the file and it says i cant. is there anything else i can do? i cant access my pics, music, or market.

I had the same problem with my Asus transformer. In addition the default Music player did not work anymore as it used to (played the wrong numbers).
The above solution did not work for me (I could get to the files mentioned without rooting).
Sofar I got the problem solved as followed.
1. I found an new version 4 of the Music player (com.google.android.misic.4.0.9.apk) and installed this version
2. This by itself did not solve anything, but now I could reinstall the factory original version and now everything is OK.
No forced closing anymore and the default player works as before
I hope it stays this way.

alfred
I've just updated to latest Oxygen on my Huawei U8800, and was having that same issue.
After reading this post, I've updated with TB the application "[Playlists] Media Storage 2.3.7 (10)" and it solved it.
It seems that my custom playlists of the music app were causing it...

What in the name of Zod is LocalTryTry?

This has just been sitting in the my apps section of marketplace since I ran market doctor in Titanium Backup. I have absolutely no idea what this app does, (if anything) both the description and Whats New text simply says LocalTryTry followed by two screen shots of a three paned interface that is completely blank. Attempting to update the app fails and I can find no actual trace of it's existence on my transformer anywhere.
So I ask, what is this thing had how do I get rid of it? Frankly Its freaking me out a bit.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.asus.weatherwondered the samething. just looked on the market page. It says in the url com.asus.weather. thanks for making me look.

Well that seems to be that mystery solved
I have exactly the same problem.
It came about exacly the same way i have tried using two different roms with the same result.
Have you got rid of it and how you did it.
Thanks

Using Titanium Backup just unlink LocalTryTRy (Asus weather) from the market and it stops nagging you about updates that always fail.
Well first post gets an answer pretty quick.
Pretty easy when you know how
Thanks for you help.
So instead of breaking the market link is there a way to port the update again? If I knew how I would since that seems like a better option.

WhatsApp problem.

When I go to my contacts list (phone contacts, not WhatsApp contacts), I can slide right to call someone, or slide left to message them. When I slide left, I can choose whether to use Whatsapp or the default messenger to text someone, but choosing WhatsApp does not work (nothing happens). Choosing default messenger works normally. Is there a way to fix this?
Not sure if you tried this yet, but did you try uninstalling and then re installing the app? I had some issues like this with some apps after flashing a new rom. This method did the trick for me, along with fixing permissions in rom manager for good measure. Good luck, hope you can get it to work....

So it is actually supposed to work then? I figured it was just some incompatibility issue.
And reinstalling didn't fix it.
If it makes you feel better, I just truer and it does nothing for me as well. Very minor I'd say as I keep all my Whatsapp chats open anyway.

yes I installed. was easy except I had to save the .so file as no known program that I could find would open or install it including Snappea which I normally use for my apk files, 7zip, and Free File Viewer. so I mounted my phone, opened it as a viewable drive and copy/pasted it to my app folder on my sd. installed the other file via Snap, change permissions....followed the instructions, basically.
this launcher is sweet. it gives you lots of options, is easy to use, can uninstall apps and I don't know what all else without ever having to open your settings. the only complaint I might have would be that the icons on the folders are very small, a bit hard to see, but not a big deal as I think we all tend to memorize locations and content in our smart or regular type folders.
as far using it to install other roms, I have tried a bit using ROM Toolbox Pro and ROM Manager and no success as they want confirmation for CRM, and as I am sure you already know, there is no recovery currently available that I know of for the Event.
Also, as I viewed the files included in the download for the launcher, it came with and internet shortcut to SuperCharger, and I am gonna try that next, as it is supposed to work with all mods, stock or otherwise. description of this installer/launcher describes ability to use for the install of other mods but I need more information. this is the first android I have rooted and I am not ashamed to admit I am a green noob. I wish somebody would talk down to me and explain a bit better. as I peruse the forums i find a wealth of information but it is hard to put into action with some of the abbreviated instructions so prevalent from topic to topic. if you install and figure a way to mount jellycream, please advise, as i could use all the guidance available. much thanks and have fun. i will kudo this guy and see if he will point me in the right direction.
problem
A problem has emerged when I connect Event and turn on usb debug and mass storage. when the sd card becomes unavailable it turns all user/non-stock icons to little green android men on home page and changes app names to developer names. disconnect and reboot does not return icons or normal app names. tried to use Titanium Pro to restore but that didn't work either. any ideas?
bummer
I have tried everything, disabling stock launcher, and re-installing TouchWiz Home .apk 3 times, but every time I mount my phone as an external drive to load music all my non-stock apps turn to little green android men with mostly unidentifiable names. too bad as this was sweet. I am bummed out. nobody seems to be interested in this thread. would be nice to hear from developer... is there something I am doing wrong? ive checked the install on the .so, permissions... don't understand. please help. thanks. gonna have to uninstall in the mean time ;(
