Android 2.2 (froyo) upgrade for Moto XT720
Do we have the froyo upgrade available for Moto XT720
Is Android 2.2 for milestone xt720 out in INDIA???
i dont think so..foryo not in India as of date...
Update
The latest update in India is the 2.1.1 .... The Froyo is due in 2011 as far the sources say.. cant wait for the update cause the XT720 doesn't allow installation on the SD card...

ah ha. ... if you're waiting for Froyo just for installing your apps into SD card, you don't need to wait anymore. check here
Code:
http://translate.google.com.sg/translate?hl=en&sl=vi&u=http://www.tinhte.vn/thay-doi-nang-cap-firmware-280/app2card-2-6-2-12-nov-cai-dat-ung-dung-len-nho-phan-vung-456586/&ei=NM7hTMv3I4KWcY6epZ8M&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CB4Q7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dapp2card%2B2.6%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3D6Mp%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official
the program will let you partition and format one part to Ext2 (which is required to install Apps) and let you transfer the apps on your phone to SD card. It also change the default app location to SD card so the future app installations will also go to SD card automatically. (I've already using on my XT720 since version 2.4 now version 2.6.2 is already out)
dont think so froyo will hit indian market for xt720
looks like xt720 wont get froyo after all...
http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/mot...oid-22-no-froyo-for-milestone-xt720-50001727/
korea version xt720 will get 2.2.1 froyo at next week(25) (christmars present?)
Are You Sure that it's 2.2??

It appears ALL the 2.2 ROM are released for Milestone (GSM version of Droid original), but how about XT720?
2.2 is not released for Milestone(GSM version). It is leaked version. 2.2 is released officially only for Droid.

Could you please supply us with a link when its done downloading? (Should be in the download folder on sd card I think) This may be the official 2.2 update! (Also, would appreciate it if you could tell us what the update was for after you update successfully by checking settings>about phone and check the system version) And this may be the new 2.2 firmware by Motorola! Also, from what I have seen, 2.2 comes to motorola milestone UK in Q1 of this year, but only UK I think. I am not sure though.
But please do check if it is actually 2.2 and supply us with a link if it is
Edit: If anyone cares, here is the link for when the updates are scheduled : https://supportforums.motorola.com/community/manager/softwareupgrades
SHOLS_U2_02.36.0_UCASHLSMR2EMEAB1B806D.0R_PDS003_U SASHLS00RTGB_P026_A019_HWp2a_Service1FF.sbf.gz
In italy we have the 2.38 since september, so dont get too excited, is not froyo
I dont think its the 2.2, that release is already mentioned here under UK service packs.
I'll inform what it was after the update is done. I have no idea about the update since I'm already on 2.1-update1 and MSU only said there is an update available.
Edit: Well.. after downloading it informed that there is no new software available for the device. I have no idea why there was a popup in the notification area saying there was an update available.
And thanks for the link, Sileshn. I'll be more careful the next time so I don't get my hopes up for nothing... still waiting.
You should be able to tell by the download size.

SHOLS_U2_02.36.0 is not a 2.2.1 update
we have already that update in greece from summer it just fixes the alarm problem.
Guess what! Defy released yesterday in India and it seems to be the one without Motoblur. Since a central european version cannot be used in India, there seems to be another firmware that Motorola came up with.
By the weekend I should have my friend upload the Deblured rom for us to use.
Well if 2.1 is still interesting for some that is.

Yes, I will need to teach my friend to make the backup and upload it from India. BTW seems like the version is called 2.52 . Sounds scary of it being unrootable and non-downgradable.
i got defy recently in New Delhi....version says 2.51.....i thought it had motoblur...now wud check again...
can somebody confirm whether the indian defy is rootable?
i am planning to buy this phone and if it is supposed to get froyo in june, i should rather stick with my galaxy 3.

haven't come across any unrootable rom yet.
and if you do buy it, please post your nandroid backup.
ps there are already froyo roms floating around. and no one knows when would an indian version would come.
ok so i can flash sbf files even if the bootloader is 2.51?
if yes then what is the problem with 2.51 that everybody is advising not to upgrade?

the problem is always that you can't go back. unless you have a nandroid backup. any future upgrade should be fine.
Price of Defy in India ... delhi Region in retail.... anyone.... ?
it retails for INR 18000 at flipkart.com
It's without MOTOBLUR???
Had the same here in Thailand. However I didn't make a backup before I put a custom rom on it. Wish I had!
But it's definitely out there. Mine was a 2.51 rom with static moto boot logo and no motoblur widgets or popups whatsoever. Actually, yesterday I found a file called JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1_DEBLUR_P3_SIGN_SIGNED_UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA030.0R_USAJORDANRTCEE_P031_A020_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf.gz at 4shared but now it has been deleted. Don't know if it was real though.

After that i would like to put the new 2.2 T-Mobile USA with MOTOBLUR. For this i have the link.

Yes you need to return your defy to UK 2.1 retail. Just a little favor after downloading the update from MSU. Please check the folder and share to us the SBF (or anyone who would update via msu.)
nice to see it finally making an appearance, even though it's retail only - so of course T-Mobile users have to wait even longer.
Personally, I gave up waiting and took the plunge to upgrade to CM7 RC0 - Motorola are just far too slow.
That's excellent news! Can anyone confirm the exact filename of the SBF so that I can download it direct from Motorola's server? It will be in the firmware folder of the Motorola software updater program directory during the download phase.

Eventually got an update down via the motorola update software, copied the .sbf file safely out of the folder and ran through the update. Just as i was in the process of creating a multi-upload account, i noticed something... As my device was bought through t-mobile, the update software decided i needed the 2.51 update (which is what was on it 6 months ago!).
Anyone with a retail version of the defy that can get the .SBF plz?

The file andy managed to download on his t mobile handset was the old eclair released months ago, and is available on the and developers defy page. It is not froyo, as indicated by the 2.51 build number.

Hi,
I went through the upgrade. I looked for the sbf and it was there. Once I finished the upgrade it had been deleted!!
Anyone doing the upgrade, please grab the sbf file before it competes.

I downgraded my phone to eclair now firmware version is 2.1 update1 and blur version is 2.21.0 retail en gb why the moto update says there is no updates available, does the kernal version matter for update.
Did you downgrade with the fixed 2.21 sbf plus nandroid method? Im not sure what godegroup version you have on your phone but will it let you install a full 2.51 sbf uk retail?
