I cant figure it out, I just installed the latest v. WM6 Rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297256)
Internet Sharing via Bluetooth works but... when i start my vpn either via ssl or ipsec (on laptop) NOGO. something is in between dont know what...so workaround:
Internet sharing via USB: the device tells me "connected", the new Network connection in control panel/xp tells me "connected" but there is no Internet connection. I try to ping 192.168.0.1 which it made gateway and this is not found. nothing nada. firewall off. nogo. repair. nogo.
*argh* I realize it are 2 different problem but in short: I can not connect as I usually did under the wm5 dialer (and I miss the status lights).
Anyone has a clue?
Hi !
I have the same problem with the same ROM. I didn't found any solution yet.
I didn't try Internet connection shring with Bluetooth. But your problem sounds as a proxy setting problem on your PDA connexion. You should take a look at those settings...
Let us know if you find anything.
edit :
Finally it's working, I re-installed ActiveSync 4.5 and now it's OK.
I reinstalled activesync, modded down to wm5, then again wm6 ...
and magic usb is working but...
My VPN connection on both BlueTooth or Usb is not working. I use the AT&T client to connect to our network but authentication fails with all vpn servers in the list.
That's a shame because this is really the only basic functionality i need to check my e-mail and stuff "on the road". Hmmm... down to WM5!
Unless someone has got VPN working?

Great!
For reference, using the Cisco VPN client, with Bluetooth and internet sharing, does not work. With WM6, a Bluetooth PAN adapter is created on the PC, and the Cisco VPN doesn't bind to this type of adapter.
Using the same config, but with the USB cable, and the wireless modem, does work.
Unfortunately It does NOT work anymore.
Whatever I try I can not get connection to the Internet
- I start "connect"
- Plugin the usb cable
- The new network connections icon appears under network connections
- It pops up it is connected
- It has an assigned 192.168.0.2
But no internet connection, ping 192.168.0.1 can not be reached, etc...
I turned off the firewall to see if this was the problem. not.
Is there ayone who has got a clue? This is really frustrating.
For what it's worth, I'm using WM6 Black 2.5 on a Hermes (Cing 8525) and I'm able to use WM6 Internet Sharing via BT to connect my laptop to the internet and I am able to use my Cisco VPN client on my laptop to connect to my company's intranet. No problems here so I don't think it's a WM6 problem.... rather a configuration problem... either on your company's VPN concentrator side or your client side. You may want to chat with your IT/Ops dept for configuration settings.
No problems here nither. I use Vista on PC. I need to connect to several networks and just have made some tests. I could reach all of them. The fact is that most of them are built on Draytek routers not Cisco, but they also use IPSec and so on.
Yep I'm having the same problem, my VPN's worked fine with WM5, but went to Black 2.5 and now when I VPN, it connects, assignes me an IP, but wont let me ping the network.
I _think_ it's becuase now the fone shows up as a network rather than a modem, and assigns me a 192.168.0.x address, and the home network is in this too... any suggestions?
share internet connection with ppc
Can i use my ppc as the wireless adapter? do i need to use "wireless modem" or "activesync" to do this? For more detail, if my computer do not have wireless adapter, and now i want to use the wireless adapter on my ppc to connect to the internet. Is it posible?
Hi there!
Maybe I'm just too stupid, but I've benn trying for weeks now to setup the network parameters for my University's Campus network and failed miserably, so could someone please explain to me how this darn "Internet Connection Manager" works?
What I need in brief:
How can I setup a proxy to use with and only with
- HTTP(S) and FTP(S)
for a WiFi-Network that
- is NOT encrypted
- does NOT require dialing a number / accessing a modem
- does NOT use a VPN
??
Whenever I try this it always results in the connection dying completely.
In other words: When I select my standard UMTS-uplink as "default connection for programs connecting automatically" and then manually establish a WiFi-connection I can reach all computers available on the campus network get ping responses and everything, but I cannot use a proxy, hence not load off-campus pages.
When I define a new connection and enter my settings (just WiFi-name and the proxy details) I can still establish a WiFi-connection, but get a ping timeout even on the access point and the intranet servers usually available through the WiFi. No SSH login, no intranet, nothing (but I do get an IP assigned & stuff)
Here's what I would like to do in theory:
=> Manually connect to a WiFi-Network called "tuwlan".
. -open network
. -no encryption
. -IP, netmask, gateway, nameserver etc provided automatically by DHCP
=> Establish a SSH2 (SecureShell) connection to our on-campus proxy server and tunnel some ports to get through the Subnets (extremely restrictive) firewall.
. -SSH including port forwarding done with PockeTTY, works like a charm
=> Use Opera Mobile to surf web pages and FTP Sites through the proxy "localhost:40081" (which is forwarded to our campus proxy server through SSH2).
=> The Proxy only knows HTTP(S) and FTP(S), so all other programs (ICQ, Skype etc) are not to use it!
This setup used to work great with older Opera versions, but they removed the proxy setting dialog in favor of directly using the ICM settings.
So now I'm stuck with Microsofts Internet Connection Manager
Can anyone please help me to get this working?
Hi all,
I recently purchased this and was attempting to set it up so I can remotely access my PC, using these tutorials:
http://support-remote.splashtop.com...er-outside-from-home-via-remote-network-or-3g
http://support-remote.splashtop.com...sys-wireless-g-broadband-router-as-an-example
And I'm a bit confused. On the page where I set up my router (Netgear WRN2000), I have the ports set up correctly, but the app will not connect. I googled an open port checker, and it says "connection refused". I could very well be using the wrong IP address, as it says in the second tutorial "If it starts with 192 or 10, you need to find the externel." it says you can use whatsmyip, but using that doesn't produce any results either.. does anyone have any ideas? If I'm being too vague please let me know I can try and explain a little more.
Yes, IP addresses starting from 192 and 10 are local area network (LAN) IPs, they are only valid inside the same network. For example in a home environment your router may have an internal IP like 192. 168.1.1 while all computers connected to that router will have IPs like 192.168.1.2 and up. These IPs uniquely identifies all the devices connected to your home router, therefore you can use it to connect to any computer on your home network with your tablet when you are at home (connected to your home router). However, your router will also get one external IP starting with a number other than 192 , 172 or 10. This uniquely identifies your router inside whole of the internet. So if you want to connect to your computer from a remote location (outside home) you need to connect to that external IP. You can find this external IP by going to a site like http://www.whatsmyip.org from your home computer.
This is all you have to do:
Forward 6783 on your home router to the correct LAN ip of the PC you want to connect to
find out the external IP of your router by going to www.whatsmyip.org from the home PC you want to connect to .
Add a new PC in splashtop (android app) with the external IP.
P.S: Most home internet connections have dynamic external IPs; this means the external IP can change from time to time whenever your router is restarted or if you lose the connection to your ISP for some reason. However you can use a dynamic DNS service to assign a name like joshnichols189.dyndns-at-home.com instead of always trying to find out the correct external IP of your home network. If you are interested in getting a Dynamic DNS name like that go to http://www.dyndns.com
I tested accessing internet in Android phone via USB net which connected to a Windows XP PC, pure wired, not wireless solution I Googled.
It works! However, some application does not designed to use USB net, these application only use WiFi or GPRS/EDGE/HSPA to access internet.
My environment:
Windows: XP
Phone: Huawei U8800, Android 2.3.5
Internet: Ethernet (ADSL+router infact)
For those people who don't have WiFi, can't use WiFi (care about baby's health?), don't want to use WiFi/GPRS/EDGE/HSPA (expensive?), here is the tips to let you access internet via USB net.
How to do
Your android phone must be rooted first
Install Microsoft ActiveSync on your Windows PC
Install Terminal Emulator application on your android phone from market.
Connect your phone to your Windows PC
On your phone, turn on USB tethering: Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Tethering & portable hotspot -> USB tethering
Now, look at your Windows system, there will be a new network card (Windows Mobile-based Internet Sharing Device) appears
Share your internet connection to the new network card: right click internet connection (PPPoE or Ethernet or WiFi or whatever your internet connection is) -> Property -> Advance -> Enabled internet connection sharing. (if your Windows Firewall service is not started, start it first), this will change the IP address of new network card to 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0
Now back to your phone, open the Terminal application, type commands like the following
Code:
su
ip addr add 192.168.0.2/24 broadcast 192.168.0.255 dev usb0
route add default gw 192.168.0.1 dev usb0
setprop net.dns 192.168.1.1
setprop net.dns1 8.8.8.8
setprop net.dns2 8.8.4.4
# the DNS server should change to your favorite DNS server, 192.168.1.1 is for my environment (a router)
DONE! turn your phone WiFi off, open a browser, you can surfering now, but as I tested, some other application won't work (or work well), they don't know USB net
Compatible/Incompatible applications
I tested few applications, found some compatible and incompatible applications, I will list them here, if you found incompatible applications, please help fill these lists.
++ Compatible ++
Generally, most browser or browser-like application works with USB net.

capslock66 really did a great and expert job both on Android and Windows.
My solutions is some kind of clean & manual one, no application is needed on Android phone, no router-like client application is needed on Windows PC, let "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)" service do the internet sharing magic.
I shared internet between two Windows PC before (install 2 network cards on host PC), so I think it should be same when the client PC changed to an Android phone, that's how this solution came out.

Hey
first of all, thank you so much for your article.
I really need to do this.
anyways, my questions
what's a "rooted android phone" ?
and how do I "Install Terminal Emulator application on my android phone" ?
I'm sorry but I just bought my phone and I don't know much about it
I tried to copy-paste it in my SD Memory but it didn't work
and by the way I didn't download it from Market (because GPRS is so damn expensive in here ), instead I downloaded it from developer's website (jackpal).
thanks again
I really appreciate it o7
Yea you lost me once I found out that in order for this to work I had to install
Microsoft Active Stink.
One of the things I hated about Windows Mobile was its reliance on that crappy software and I don't want it on my new PC.

My Nexus 7 (2012) hat USB host function. I'm simply using an "USB to LAN Ethernet Adapter for Google Android Tablet". No Windows needed.
Lots of troubles
• The ip of my router is "192.168.0.1" and ICS were having a trouble about that.
• After I type in terminal the "ip addr bla bla bla..." it says " Object 'addr' not found. Try 'ip help' "
• I typed "ip help" then it says " 'help' not found try 'ip help' " Seriously??
• I Google "help not found on android terminal" and I cannot find any related problem like mine
The PC I am using doesn't have any WiFi so I badly needed this kind of workaround because I need internet to simulate the app I'm gonna work for. Thanks!

Thanks for this. Will try this later. :victory:
Ask Question
I had a small quarrel with my stepfather, and then he didn’t let me access the home internet. When I try to connect to our home wifi normally, it says "obtaining ip address" and loops for minutes until it says "failed to obtain ip address." But when I try to connect by setting static ip from my phone, it connects immediately but says " no internet." I assumed he might have blacklisted me, but I am unable to connect even my laptop and other phones. Suspecting that my stepfather had enabled whitelist or MAC filtering, I tried to spoof MAC address using kali linux, but I couldn't connect to the wifi with spoofed MAC. I need internet but my stepfather won't listen to me. Since he is not in home right now and won't return for a month, I don't have a connected device to access the setup page and see the settings of our Digicom ( DG-M342T) router. I am also unable to physically access the router but I have the password( Authentication type - WEP). How do I fix this? I would really appreciate your help.
You could download the router's management app and then view the connected devices list on your phone. Check your router's setup guide to see which app you need to download.

I can't access the setup page by typing 192.168.10.1 in the url or from other Router management apps on the play store. It says " Can't reach the page." I also checked the guide where it says to open admin page by typing 192.168.10.1 on the browser , but there is no mention of any management apps.
Making changes to your router you’d need to know the IP address of the router. A list of wellknown router IPs here:

Thanks for your reply jwoegerbauer. As I mentioned earlier in my post, if I connect to wifi just by typing password, it loops "obtaining ip address" for long period, and therefore I have to set static ip address through the advance setting of wifi just to connect to it. My router's local ip address is 192.168.10.1 . I used to access the admin page before the restriction through this ip address. But now it says "Can't reach the page." The problem is about not being able to access internet and admin page after connecting to the router.
Clear your local DNS cache to make sure you have the recent version from your ISP for 192.168.10.1. For Windows machine, you can do this by going to Start > Command Prompt > Type ipconfig /flushdns and then hit Enter.
Assumed that router's IP really is 192.168.10.1 and it still doesn't work then maybe ISP is blocking it. You may try to use an alternate DNS service such as Cloudflare for example.
I flushed the dns in windows. Now I can connect to the wifi without setting statip ip (in windows), but I still can't access internet. If I try to open any website, it says "
Hmmm… can't reach this page" and then says "You are not connected." I installed cloudflare WARP in windows but it was no use , since it requires internet access to function.
These are the screenshots of my android to explain what exactly happens:
1. When I try to connect to wifi just by typing it's password (loops at "obtaining ip address")
2. Setting the static ip manually
3. Instantly connected after setting static ip
4. Connected but No internet
5. Can't access router setup page
Cloudflare Warp? Confused.

Well thanks for your help jwoegerbauer. Below is the screenshot of ipconfig command after flushing dns. It looks like I haven't been assigned an ip address, the subnet is different, and the gateway is blank. Do you have any idea what this means? What could be a valid ip adress to connect manually with static ip?
