Hi All;
Maybe someone here can give me a real answer to this & if there is a solution... I.min my 30 day deal with ATT.. I have both an iPhone 4 and a Captivate – When playing videos (I test mostly with movie trailer websites) the Captivate will almost 100% of the time play the three or so minute trailer straight through without a slow buffer freeze of the trailer (both on Wi-Fi & 3G at multiple test sites) ... Now the iPhone, when on the same movie trailer site, freezes with a ‘slow buffer ‘ maybe two or three times throughout the trailer - unless I let the buffer travel appx a third of the way through the trailer & ‘then’ begin the trailer so the video feed cannot catch up...now this Only happens when the iPhone is on Wi-Fi (same multiple hotspots as Captivate - & home also[1.5 download speed]) ... I tried out a 3Gs before the 4G with the same buffer problem ..... Is there an inherent problem with the way the iPhones talk to various modems (etc) so that (if I decide to keep the ip4) I will never solve this ‘slow buffer problem’? Or am I missing something ... Thanks for any help ... John
..Gosh guys/gals ... I really thought after 3 or so days I would get some kind of an answer from some 'smart phone guru' ... maybe everyone here is a newby ?? :-(

Perhaps you have not been answered yet because iphone has not many fans in XDA
... it's not that I like the iPhone - I love the android system, but I must have a 'working' smart phone with both a 'non-crashing buffer' system & GPS wish I could get an answer to my original question ....
It is very doubtful apple will even acknowledge the problem, less fix it.
Your using the phone wrong.

I have had a Tilt on the at&t network since it came out and I love it. A gentleman came into my store a while back with a Tilt and had the Touch Flo Cube running on his Tilt. He told me to come to this website and that someone on here would be able to help me do the necassary upgrades. His phone also ran streaming videos off of youtube and other websites. I am very very interested in both of these applications and really would like to get them running on my Tilt safely. The only problem is that I am a complete phone upgrading Virgin and everywhere I seem to look there are warnings to not install software unless I know what I am doing. I am scared to do these updates by myself because A, I have never done them before, and B I have already broken one Tilt due to dropping it in the snow five days ago. I really don't want to have to replace another one if this goes wrong.
If someone could please take the time out of their day to help me with these upgrades, then I would be eternaly grateful! You can PM me to set up a time and or a way for us to easily communicate if you would like to do so. To anyone that does, I want to thank you in advance for your time and for your concern.
Thanks guys(and girls)
Jeremiah
Very easy to do those.
First back up all your data.
Second CID unlock your phone so you can flash any roms you want.(caution-CID unlock might lock your phone if it's sim unlocked)
Third choose the rom you want. There are lots of great roms and great chefs. You just have to flashed them see which roms and cook is compatible for you.
Fourth just restore back all your data.
Hope this helps. Everything is in wiki and stickies. Just spend some times before you mess up with your rom since if something goes wrong, you will brick your phone.
I can tell you that the very first thing you will be told by everyone here is read. Read the Wiki on this site for the Kaiser. Read the sticky threads in this forum. Read the threads on the apps and ROMs you want to install when you decide which ones you want. You want to probably spend at least three or four days...preferably a week or more...just gathering knowledge. If you take a little time and figure out what you want and read up on how to do it and what kind of problems you are likely to run into and how to fix them....well....upgrading is a simple thing.
Until the end of October, I had never done this either. But I read the site for about three weeks after getting my Tilt. At the end of that time I decided to take the plunge. I haven't hit a single snag that I couldn't easily and quickly fix. Why? I read a lot and by the time I got ready the vast majority of problems had been found and fixed.
So my advice is take some time and read about all the things you need to know: HardSPL, any sticky with Tilt or AT&T in the title, Radios (because any non-AT&T ROM needs a different radio**), Kaiser Wiki, and threads on the ROM you want and apps you want to install.
**Note: asking why you have no sound in ANY thread after flashing your Tilt will most likely result in scathing responses as it has been asked and answered about 2309478320984731209184837 times already.
You have to spend some time reading all the stickies, threads at the top of this page learning about how to do this stuff. It doesn't take long and it's pretty basic as people have written instructions very clearly on how to do these things, just for the simple fact that you don't need to be PM'ed on how to do this stuff, you just read.
I think you made this almost exact post in the modify/upgrading/unlocking section and received some responses.
But no, cube navigation does not give you iphone effect in web pages.
You need to search/google things such as Ftouchflo config, kona's cube, etc etc. Have to read all this stuff as you will then be able to absorb all of this information for when things come up that you need to fix/change.
Oh and I don't think he really needs to flash his rom if all he want's is cube navigation. Should just need to install ftouchflo config and a kona cube .cab
Thanks guys.
I did post a similar thread in the Upgrading section and they told me to post my thread here, so that is why I did it.
The main thing I am looking to do is to be able to run videos off youtube and various other sites. Does my Tilt need to be unlocked in order to do that? My Sim Card is not unlocked, so this should not hurt anything when unlocking the phone correct?
If you are using your data connection to browse the internet and want to look at videos, i hope you have a data plan that can handle it or have some sort of media package with at&t that i dont know much about.
If you just want to watch videos on a wireless home or work lan connection, then I think there should just be htc streaming media player on your device.. i don't know why it wouldn't be included. Maybe it's in this list of cabs
Or you can search/google "tcpmp and flashbundle" and install those. It is a media player.
But again, just search/browse. All questions have been asked before and answered, so it's best to look for them yourself so you gain a broader range of how things work, trust me, makes it a lot easier.

and no i dont think the lock status of your phone has anything to do with surfing the web and watching a video off of youtube through the core pocket media player and flash bundle.
Yes, I do have a Data Plan on my Tilt. I do know a little bit about phones I work for at&t so I should. They just don't teach us how to unlock devices and install 3rd party softwares onto the devices.
I will look through the lists and see what I can find. Thanks again.
Hi Guys,
I’m looking for a good tide prediction app to use on my HD2 when I’m out fishing. I’ve had a play with ctide but it doesn’t get on with the HD2 very well. It works but the screen layout is a bit screwed up.
Please google ctide for info. I tried to post a link to the site but the forum rules won't let me!
What I'd ideally like is somebody much smarter than me to tweak the code to work on the HD2 (and rotate when i move the HD2) or take the xtide reference data that ctide uses and write their own wonder app.
I hope somebody fancies this challenge and gives it a go. I'll happily test and report back on any apps people come up with.
Thanks guys!
Hi,
i don't know, if it fits your needs, but have a look at http://iphone.magicseaweed.com in opera mobile. you need an internet connection, because it is a website, but you can see worldwide swell charts, period charts, wind charts and city based forecasts on a day-by-day base including the tide.
greetings,
malte

I'd like to have an application like that as well - also for fishing

Same here. I miss the TideApp on my G1. I hope cTide isn't all there is to offer. I really need a tide app for fishing as well. I hate looking through the book and calculating.
Add me to the request list. And my request is for more than just fishing. I'm a Hydrographic Surveyor and need to know what the tides are doing on a daily basis.
Do you have any idea how embarrassing it is that my wife has a Tide Prediction on her Iphone and there's nothing for WinMo?!?!?
There's even one for Android now??

Someone with porting cababilities....PLEASE HELP?!?!?!?!

interested too, for surfing )
Me too for fishing
If you're experiencing WiFi drop problems, may I suggest you have a look at application: "FXR WiFi fix and rescue", available on Play Store and free, no root required btw. It solved my problem at least.
Hi there,
as a new user on XDA-Developers I am not allowed to post in the development forums (yet)! Grrrr!
Anyway I would like to share interesting discovery about an application that has been able to fix (for me at least) the WiFi problem that's quite extensively discussed on the "Galaxy S Plus I9001 Android Development" thread, started by all-glorious-and-deserving BroodROM author: Broodplank1337.
As many users on that thread I've been experiencing the problem about WiFi connection lasting a few seconds to a few minutes, and then dropping. The only cure to this problem was to deactivate WiFi, then reactivate it. I sometimes had to retry up to 2-3 times for the WiFi connection to work again, but only for a few dozens of seconds / few minutes.
-> the application that fixed my problem is "FXR WiFi fix and rescue". I tried a few other but only that one solved the problem for me. I was surprised that it didn't even request root access rights...
On the aforementioned forum I could find several other fixes made by Broodplank and others, involving reflashing of Kernel and/or modem firmware. I didn't want to start flashing the Kernel again on the cellphone as some users had reported failure and I didn't want to risk bricking the phone.
Hope this info is useful and gets found by some people (I wished I could post it as a reply to the aforementioned thread, would have allowed a more concise answer, grrrr).
Hey,
Thank you very much for pointing out this app, If it really helps I will definitely add it to RC5. of course I'm very curious what the app does since it doesn't even need root access.
Tested the app and It seems to really fix the reception! I have 2 bars now on the 2nd floor and normally i would have 0 bars! (so it keeps disconnecting all the time)
Thank you very much!
Great!
Great!
You know what, if it was 8 years ago I would be like you, releasing custom ROMs etc or doing similar stuff. However in the meantime came wife and children... I don't have no time at all for hacking at home anymore!
On the professional side I'm doing similar job, only that it's not on smartphones (it's in digital TV market). I have good embedded Linux experience including bootloader stuff etc, but rather poor Android-specific knowledge (at the moment).
So there you have it: your devoted new user cyclistefou is an experienced professional embedded Linux hacker, thankful and admirative for your efforts on broodrom, wishing to help and certainly able to regarding knowledge, but having almost NO time at all. Today I'm doing a special effort to contact you as you deserve it with so much work in BroodROM.
-> in summary, please remember me, as a guy who has no time in general but still wishing to support and help... when I get post access to dev forums it will be easier for me to post useful info when I have it...
Thanks for your efforts. Too bad the SGS+ device HW is good but IMHO the SW is terrible. If there was not BroodROM I would be back to my trusty HTC Desire in no time!
Wifi disconnection issue solution.!!
i khow this problem. Thats the bug in the new firmware. But there is a solution. In your wifi router there is lan setting option where ull find Lease Time. Set it to two weeks. Lease was set to "forever" actually, I changed it to one day, rebooted both and now it seems to work fine, I've tried downloading bigger files and playing some games online, it didn't drop at all! I twill not disconnect again.
Thanks for your answers, hopefully it'll stay like this...
Hello there! This is the first time I write in the forum, but I've been following it since 2 years by now (or even more, actually!). I'm "relatively" new, so I hope I'm writing in the right section.
I'm working hard to be a developer and recently I've been contacted by private people to make a new gps app. I've never worked with these kind of stuff, so grabbing gps signals, transform it to show on a map your postition etc. I'm a complitely noob on this side. So, I would ask to whom is more experienced than me some informations about how to handle these stuff, if there's some guide that shows how gps services (on Android, of course) works to catch the signal and send the informations to the app and so on, some good article and stuff like this.
Thanks for the eventual help .
Hello everyone , I'm new here on XDA !
Have I follow the forum some time ago and just now decided to become a member : D
I am Brazilian , please do not make fun of me and me being prejudiced because I am Brazilian.
Today I bring to many lovers of RTS GAME [ REAL STRATEGY ]
How to Play Starfront Collision in current devices , because you can not play because the game is not optimized for the new generation of devices and processors , so because of that the game is not playable !
I'm sure not only me as many who are advanced users and uses current device , ever had a headache for wanting to play a game and take it in to be ancient , it 's a lot of anger ..
Good enough delay haha ! Discovered a method of playing Starfront in current devices , it took me time to find how to do this , and I found these times and to share with you here to this method ok
Sadly the game does not work 100 % , it's now fully playable , what it is good for people like me who always wanted to play and not be plyable Starfront per game in gameloft be optimized and abandon the game and stop support for new devices : (
Over the bug that has some layout and intensities , does not disturb anything in the gameplay .
Unfortunately i do not have sony devices, htc, lg and among others and so do not know if this method works on other devices, for both those who want to test and comment on what had occurred, I would be grateful: D
That currently only tested this method on Galaxy s3 and s4 Galaxy and Galaxy note 1.
Most work the same in other current samsung devices, s3 up.
.....
Check out the video I made explaining how to Starfront work on my 3 Note [N9005] 4G
youtu.be /k5XffLT-LdY
In the video I used the note 3, most have a galaxy s3 and work well.
It works a miracle in my note 3 because of the high resolution and android 4.4
Bugs that occurred, to minimize the game it closes alone, and sometimes will give the force close anything anymore rarely
I hope you enjoyed this game, who can not enjoy.
Thank you all, and anything will be here to answer all your questions have ok.
Not working for me on Galaxy Note 2
I followed your instructions on my Galaxy Note 2, and I get errors when trying to download the data. Any ideas?
UPDATE: I spoke too soon. Despite the download errors, if you keep punching "yes" to download the files until it finishes, it eventually does finish and appears to be working! Awesome. This is the only working solution I could find. Thanks!
Confirmed. Working well on my Note 3 SM-N9005.
it keeps crashing on samsung S3

it is telling me the video is private. Also can anyone confirm if the technique used works for the Samsung Galaxy S5 on kitkat?

Could somebody please explain how you got it working?
Cheers
I'll second that request
