Hi everyone. So I rooted my captivate and enabled side loading. I used titanium backup to rid of the att bloatware. Im wondering what the easiest easy to unroot is. Also, does not having the bloatware after unrooting affect my ability to receive OTA updates? Thanks a lot!

I don't think leaving it rooted will affect anything, not right now at least. Root can be seen as an admin account. If you had to intervene with the phone for some other reason, you'd have to root it again. When the updates start coming down the pipe and you weren't getting them, while everyone is, then I'd say there is something to be concerned about.
As far as unrooting goes, there are threads that touch on the subject and would be more helpful tham I on the subject.

Why should I need to root my phone, I understand about bloatwares from AT&T but need a reason if I root It what will happen? Also once its rooted, will I be able to get update android 2.2? I need a good reason why I should root it. So please help me out with those list of reasons. Thank you.

Seriously, put a little effort into searching this forum. Look at one of the other android forums. If you don't know why you would want to root your phone, then you don't need to do it.
That's the problem, all the search comes out different. That's why I am asking on here cuz nothing comes out right. You don't have to be mean or even post on here if You didn't like to hear it. I just want the real opinion and all those opinions will summerize.

Here's the things I've done since I rooted:
To get rid of the ATT apps (this one is important because they launch for no reason).
To sideload apps right from the phone.
To change the appearance.
To really "own" my phone.
I really don't know beyond that. I guess if you're fine without rooting it then don't. I used it happily for 2 weeks without root, but I couldnt stand the invasive launching ATT bloat.
What about the update, if its rooted, can I still get in air update?

setcpu seems to be enough of a reason for me to root. seems to make a huge difference! will have to try and donate next payday
I have had a rooted G1 forever and clearly see the benefits to rooting the G1. My brother just got the Captivate.
1) What are the arguments for rooting the Capitvate? When I think about what rooting the G1 got me, it was mostly the updated operating system which the Captivate already has. I've found that most of the good "non-market" apps eventually make their way to the market.
2) Is Captivate Rooting easily reversable and relatively idiot proof? My brother's phone is a company phone.
Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks
You can actually download apps that you click a button to root or unroot it. I have not tried them but they are there. One is free too. They also have one click root and unroot programs for your computer. It's easy. Benefits. Root only apps. Custom tom if you want it

There really is no argument for or against.
You can sideload apps without rooting, so in the end does he have a reason to root? If this is no, then don't do it.
I don't think you should look for a reason to root, but use the captivate and then determine if it is missing something you need. if it is, will root solve your problem, if yes then root.

I think that is the best answer. It's pretty easy to do but if you don't need it then there is really no point.
Remove autostarting bloatware.
Sent from my Samsung Captivate.
I use it, so I can easily restore my ROM. Certain apps are "root only"...
I rooted because i wanted to underclock my cpu to increase my battery life. I consider everything else benefits(albeit great benefits). To each his own desire
Ive owned three android devices in the last couple of years and have never gotten a clear answer on this.
Will your phone receive ota updates if its rooted?
What about rooted and bloat frozen with titanium?
thanks
Depends on the manufacturer and the software. All manufacturers do it differently.
Reason you cant get a straight answer is because there isnt one. It is dependent on manufacturer/carrier/device/software
Everyone told me that you do. Just make sure you have voodoo ota rootkeeper so you don't lose root.

It is apparent that verizon S3 enthusiasts will never be able to take an OTA, how do we disable them completely so there are no accidents?
Do you guys have root yet? Titanium backup> freeze everything Verizon (including kies) related. Especially the one that says "update".
Of course in ics you can disable a lot of bloatware w/o root. Go to apps long press on app of choice hit disable.
Make sure to hIt "stop" process first.
Freezing via TiBu is best .

Root has been achieved but is probably 100% guaranteed to be broken by an OTA. Any enthusiast will depend solely on the dev community for updates for the life of the phone.
So, I have been hearing that a SGS3 OTA is on the way, and has begun rolling out on Sprint. I will be getting my vzw sgs3 tonight, should I be wary of installing this OTA? Do you think they already fixed the exploit even after less than 24 hours?

I would err on the side of caution and not take any OTA's unless the devs approve. At the minimum right now we have root. Verizon OTA's on encrypted devices are notorious for breaking existing exploits. All OTA's will be repackaged by the devs into something we can use, so you gain nothing by taking an OTA. Fact of life with an encrypted device.
Not having a lot of luck finding the answer to this, anybody?
I've read through a lot of threads....some are vague, some don't post specific ROMs they are on, etc., and I'm unsure as to the answer to this.
Nexus 5 owner here, former TMO SGS3 owner (given away), now I've come into possession of a Verizon SCH-i535 SGS3 that I'm running on T-Mobile. Phone is going to my elderly father, and I want to root it so I can uninstall all the Verizon crap and other things that are just going to confuse my dad.
Tried Odin and CFAutoRoot, connects, appears to start, but fails every time. Haven't tried TowelRoot, some say it works, some say it doesn't, and I'm really confused. Lots of threads say this ROM can't be rooted, but not all.
So, short and sweet, can anybody tell me with certainty whether this ROM can be rooted? If so, by which method? Am I stuck with the stock ROM? Any way to hide apps on the app screen?
I hate Verizon. HATE them.
Love xda. LOVE them.

From what I've read towelroot should work, although if it doesn't then I don't think anything else will. Try it out and report back
