MUST BE DEODEXED
All Swypes have matching tracers
All these are for 2.2, there is no reason you shouldnt be on 2.2
Original images from bilbobrian, just some extra days on my part getting it to you
As always do a back up
If on 2.2 and have boot strapper installed to use this update .zip, throw it on sd card, open droid x bootstraper reboot to recovery, apply update.zip, reboot done!
........ without bootstrapper method...........
if you want just the apk for a different color just extract it from the update.zip file
use root explorer or other app to make a copy of your original app ( its in system/app)
First you must remove swype.apk from system/app
any way of your choosing, terminal or adb, then reboot.
follow the following directions
Put the .apk on your sdcard, navigate to it with astro or your fav file browser, open the apk and choose install. If it still says only gives you the option to uninstall, you didnt uninstall correctly.
if you can get it to show up after install go into settings and keyboard and make sure swype is checked
DONE
................ If you somehow botched it...............
restore your back up.
If you were careless enough to not do a back up and your on 2.2 get a clean download here.. MY droid world 2.2 follow those instructions.
then download file again, your last one might of been bad. When in recovery go to mounts and mount system, then install the zip

Finally got the Black Droid Does themed swype working. This is for the X only, landscape mode is different than other versions out there.
Want it?
First you must take full responsibility for the actions you are about to take.
Download the attached link. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QVWKWYK8 Put the .apk on your sdcard.
*optional (using astro or root explorer) Navigate to your system/app folder, find the existing swype.apk and rename to .bak
Open terminal emulator on your X
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/Swype.apk /system/app
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
Open a text box and verify. Its that easy
This cannot be done by copy and paste in root explorer.
Credit goes to
teenfaces (xdaforum) for the code used to make this work
bilbobrian (xdaforums) I think he themed this for other phones (please correct me if it wasnt originally him)

No, idea. Why would you have a different swype than me? Might want to try to delete your original swype (by root explorer) then just install mine.
Edit: forgot to mention, you sir RAWK, I requested this in a couple diff forums with no response... Do you have a buy me a 6 button? can't see it from tapatalk but I'll gladly click when opportunity comes... I have the same issue... I renamed to .bak prior to entering cmds this voice search isn't even a button it floats between the period and return I'll up a screenie in a sec.

+1 for me.
Great looking skin though.
I can upload the apk straight from my settings, but need to know how to do out straight from my phone.... I'm on the road
op updated, praise the android gods for wireless tether.
New apk straight from my settings and one that i just removed the mic pngs from.
The stats for download said 28 downloads, so is this a hit or miss with peoples phones?
If your removing the swype before pushing this one try leaving it there then push the new one. That is how I did it. Strange thing is if you open up the apk and look at the images there is no button for the mic....
Im not going to be able to tether tomorrow, will have spotty service at best. I will try and get on here when I can though, keep me posted.

I downloaded both of the links on the OP. the "NEW UPLOAD" file still showed the Voice Mic. The one labeled without mic (Duhh ) did indeed take the mic off my keyboard.
Seems to be working great. Thanks for your work.
I think I may just leave it as is it doesn't get in the way for me and it adds a little custom functionality

The Mic button DOES bring up Voice Search.
In a funny/related issue, my Swype Skin DOES NOT SHOW the mic, but if you press where it 'was', the voice search comes up anyway
just loaded the second link w/o mic key and its now gone!

You are correct. I never really use it, and it looks just like the Voice search box, so I just assumed it was the same.
Zaphod-- (for the geeks out there)
Ok, so i unstalled the themed swype, reinstalled the stock swype. It gave me the space for the mic button but did nothing when pressed. If anyone has the original still there does the mic appear on your and does it do anything?
Anyways, with the stock swype on my phone, recompiled a different themed swype and placed it on my phone. Still no mic button (was never in this build to begin with) and no voice search opens when tapping in that area.
Follow new link for v0.3 and new instructions.

bad4u6669, would you mind explaining why the new version should be used vs the old ones, in the OP?
Related
01-05-10 Update: Updated control file to .xml to be compatible with newest Metamorph. v1.1 is the new version, but the older ones including .thm control files are still there for people holding over.
20-04-10 Update: Added a notification icon. The first zip is still just the launcher icon, and the second includes both the launcher, and notification icons.
Compatible ROMs/Devices
Cyanogenmod 5 - 7.0 (Tested and works, and will most likely work for any version)
Nexus 1/Droid
Those are the only two phones I have verified that work. If you get it to work, let me know and I"ll add it to the list.
Got tired of the straight up blue text so I made it look more like the splash screen text, and sort of what the 1.5 looked like. I have two options, grab the .png and copy over the icon within the Talk.apk and push it back to your /system/app folder, or metamorph.
Let me know what you think. If this is a grey area because it's a Google trademark just delete the post, or let me know and I'll remove it.
Directions:
Download the zip and use MetaMorph like normal to apply a theme.
or
Make a backup of your original Talk.apk
Pull your Talk.apk from /system/app or just copy it to your sdcard.
Open the archive (don't need to extract it) and drag the .png into it, and overwrite the old one. Update the archive if it prompts you.
*If something stops working, just replace it with your backup, or reinstall the gapps. I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your phone.*
#As root, copy apk and modify it from your computer
#as root make /system read/write
#copy the updated Talk.apk or push it from adb
#remount as read only
#sync filesystem
#exit root, and terminal and the new icon will appear
#restarting launcher or rebooting will fix the icon text in launcher
su
cp /system/app/Talk.apk /sdcard
exit
exit
#follow directions to modify the archive and place it back on sdcard or push it directly
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/mtdblock3 /system
cp /sdcard/Talk.apk /system/app (or from the folder Talk.apk is in) adb push Talk.apk /system/app
mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/mtdblock3 /system
sync
exit
exit
Looks nice.
hope you make som more icon skins
I really like it. Nice work.
Think you could give the voice icon some love?
That's what I wanted to do, but I'm still trying to figure out what it should be. The only idea I have would be making a G into the handset.
Works great using metamorph, thanks.

I'm on a droid, and know it works for both, but I can't really say if it works on G1. Only one way to find out though. Backup your Talk.apk and test it out.
Its pretty easy to switch icons. I wanted to change all my stock icons to the HTC Desire icons. Using adb I just pulled the APK's I wanted (Browser.apk, Mms.apk, etc). In adb I typed "pull /system/app/Browser.apk C:/apps" and that put the Browser.apk on my C:/ drive, and into the apps folder I created.
I then zipped the apk using winrar (Browser.rar) and then opened up the apk file. I found the stock Browser icon in the "drawable" folder and renamed the icon I created to the same as the stock. I then dragged my icon into the folder replaced the stock icon. It asked me to update archive, click yes. Now the Browser.rar is updated with your new icon. Now open up the rar again and drag the apk to your desktop.
I then went back into adb and pushed the apk back.
"push Browser.apk /system/app/" then type "adb reboot" and when you phone reboots the new icon should have replaced the old ones.
Or you can do this using Root Explorer.
Copy your new apk to scard. From root explorer move the apk to /system/app/ (make sure to mount r/w access from within root explorer). Then from terminal emulator type:
su
chmod 644 /system/app/Browser.apk
sync
reboot

To be honest, I'm only sort of a script-kiddie, so I have no idea how to edit the framework just yet. I just got back into grad school, so I should hopefully have some more time on my hands for stuff like this when I start in August, so we'll see. I'm actually trying to make a Voice icon, but haven't had much time. This was really easy because I just had to resize, edit the theme control file, and repack it.

Nice.. been watching this rom since it came out. Im downloading but ill wait for feedback before I take my perfectly setup Cyan
It is 1.6 right?
It is 1.6
It is also very speedy, and the launcher it uses is awesome!
This rom is beautiful,my fave so far,the only bad thing I have come across is when I try to change the drawer settings it sends my back to the main settings screen and asks me to enter my email address and password over and over.
Other than that is amazing.
Thanks.
you can just press 'back' or press 'home' rite?
that way u will avoid putting the password all over again
Or you can set up the device, download the mail and apps, afterwards you can set up the drawer without forcecloses or weird stuff.
And if it happens jusy press the home key,it is totally worth it.

adb remount
adb push framework-res.apk ./system/framework/
adb reboot
The images in the file were to large for our phone, I just put the pretty android letters in there to replace them.

So I flashed Flipz Rom, and fell in love with the HTC_ime keyboard mod that doesnt include the arrows that the stock HTC keyboard does... I flashed Damagecontrol and it didn't include it, so I went hunting for it and found it in the N1 forums.

So does it make the other buttons grow a lil or they are the same size, but the directional buttons are just gone.
If I rename the file and keep the same extension will it load up ok? It should right?
tried this but don't like it.. eventhough it removed the arrow keys, but it's missing the "hide keyboard" key. I use that often when typing in username password on websites that are zoomed in..
^ Hitting back removes the keyboard if it's up. Just saying, so no need for the keyboard drop down button.
I simply assigned swipe-down gesture to hide the keyboard. Convenient.
Just wanted to inform y'all that the Droid X multitouch keyboard is compatible with 2.1 G1 and MT3G phones
To install it you have to first remove the LatinIme.apk default keyboard that comes with the rom.
then push the file. I've already renamed it to LatinIme.apk for you
OR just copy and paste it in Root Explorer and give it the correct permissions
hope y'all enjoy!

EDIT:
some ppl have asked what works and what doesn't. As far as I know, I'm not aware of exactly how this operates on the droid X as far as multitouch, but yes multitouch does work in terms of what i expected. the keyboard will recognize another letter after one finger has just touched one. There is no porting involved as stated in his post. He merely ripped it from a Droid X rom I'm guessing.

Lol its not that simple. If u notice in the keyboard if u press ?123 it shows & instead of &. That shows he decompiled the app.
Refer to this thread where i "ported" it. Link
Basically to port this app u gotta remove the shared uid and resign it. But that screws up the & symbol, hence once u modify wht u gotta do is replace the res folder of the modified apk with that of the original apk, resign and install.
I don't know much about developing guys honestly. I just downloaded the Droid X dump, did a little bit of reading and got this thing to work.
the sad part is lol, in spite of all that hard work i did(well hard for me at least), i just found out Droidlife posted a droid x keyboard as well :|....

lol yes it loads, but all you have to do is wait because it is not doing the animation so it looks like it is frozen. i was patient and tested saying "Hello how are you man" and it picked it up exactly word for word. I tested and know vibrate doesn't work but that was never an issue for me because I don't ever use vibrate (it can cause lag and slightly eats battery life).

6. "cp /system/app/LatinIME.apk /sdcard/LatinIME_Old.apk"
7. "cp /sdcard/LatinIME.apk /system/app/LatinIME.apk"
8. "exit"
9. "exit"
10. On phone, Long press on any text box

No that's frame work. Check out teenfaces post. His changes the status bar. Mine changes JUST the icons in the settings menu and the power control widget.
Power widget show a white spot behind it, not clear. The backup assistant isnt themed either.

Anyway to get the stock settings back until this is fixed?
There's a new link in the op.
I also asked people to make a back up of the original settings in the first post.

Nm....good job.
What do you use to modify the settings.apk file?
Thanks. Note to self... Don't release themes right before leaving on vacation... Lol
To change it, I just pulled the settings.apk from my phone then used 7 zip to input the images I wanted.
Edit: please note the images I have swapped are not ones I have created. Its a mash up of numerous images from multiple themes from multiple devs. I never intended to give the assumption I created every part.
I have no skills with photoshop or any other image software. Like I stated in the beginning, all credit goes to the real dev's. I just modded my own files and decided to share them.

Why not do a backup of the file yourself?
It's located in /system/app

I think I found it...
/system/appDatamanagerApp.apk
then
/res/drawable-hdpi/ic_menu_data_management.png
Let me know if that's it and if it works.
I think he applied the settings before a back up. No worries.
I see the image your talking about. That one will work for now. Need to find someone to make me an image sorta like the images in windows when you look at free space on a hard drive....

You can just snag the icon they used and put it in with yours.
And it's not really stealing since it's one of the icons used in the stock appDatamanagerApp.apk

Honestly I almost used that one, but compared to the others it just looks to plain.
I found a sweet one, after a google image search, but need someone to make the background transparent.
I think I will put it in for now just to semi finish this one.
