Change Search Button to Open Task Manager - Captivate General

Is it possible to change the bottom search button to open the task manager? I hardly ever search on the phone so will be great to use it for switching and closing tasks.

WkTask/AltTab help!

Hi all
I'm currently using WkTask and already know AltTab app, and i want to know if this is a normal issue of these two softwares:
when you are in any app, with others opened, (with assigned button) you can switch to any other without problem, and until now it's ok; but when i'm in the today screen, with all the apps minimized and try to switch/show (using the assigned button) the opened apps, i cannot, and it opens the win start menu!
Is this normal or not? I've this problem with WkTask and AltTab too!
Is there any way to open and choose the minimized apps using the button?
thanks in advance!
PS: I already tried to serarch related posts, and also to ask in concerning threads but i had no answer!
Ciao
No one can answer me??! pls
I use wktask.
I created a shortcut called "AltTab" which calles
"wktastkcmd.exe" /f
I assigned a button to this shortcut. It will allways swich you to the next task. When all task are minimized (you are on home screen) it will open the first one.
Hope that helps.

Hi dude,
thx for your tweak!!
I tried it and works, as you said! Than i realized a strange issue:
it also works, without any changes in the schortcut, but assigning to it different buttons, and exactly:
-> directly works with "OK" and "Win Menu" buttons, normal or long press
-> doesn't work with "IE" and "Mail" buttons, normal or long press
I don't know why, but these buttons have different effect on softwares!!
However, i added it to "OK" long press button and it select the minimized app in the upper bar showing me also the name just below the selectoion and by the arrows i can switch to the others one still minimized!
Thnaks for your contribution!
Ciao

Shortcut to taskmanager from today screen?

My eyes hurt so much searching for a solution to this. I am looking for a way to create a shortcut to the task manager from the today screen without using the stylus.
Is there anything out there that can simulate hitting the x,y coordinates for where the task manager lies? WisVol.exe solves the issue of hitting the volume wo/ the stylus. I am looking for the same solution for the task manager.
Shortcut to taskmanager
Hi there,
I can think of 2 solutions:
1- go to settings/buttons and set a button you do ont use to launch either the built in task list (tasks) which should bring up the running programs dialog or any task manager you have installed.
2- use the file "defcpl.zip". I can't remember where I got it from but it is shortcuts that link directly to the control panel options. Only problem is that I cannot find a way for them to show a real icon.
what device do you have? it's a hard button on my i780 - you hold down the OK button....
I am customizing my Sprint Plugin. I have the speaker icon simulating the volume buttom. (Stylus-less Today Screen) I would like to replace the Opera icon with the Task Manager icon and start the Task Manager as shown. I need something to simulate hitting the x,y coordinates of the upper-right most corner of the Today screen.
I think VJOkButt has a mode that simulates clicking in the top right.
Try that for now. I'll also look into a better way to simulating the clickeration.

How can I get the <-- button to close programs??

Is there any way I can configure the 'back' button on my Pro to actually, close programs instead of just leaving them running in the background eating up resources???
I've set the "tap x to close programs" setting but it doesn't seem to make any difference and I really hate having to press that little "x" key in the top right corner with my big thumbs!!! I also checked out the "Raphael Tweaks" but nothing on there either.
Anyone got any ideas????

Start -> Settings -> System -> Task Manager
Select "Button" from the tabs and uncheck both check boxes.
Done.

I think every task manager which does it's job will do that, exept the HTC Task Manager crap.
OK this is really getting me down now!!!
these various task managers, like the default HTC app, all close the application when you TOUCH the 'x' button but they don't do it if you press the hardware <- 'back' button??
I also notice that unlike my Artemis when you go into settings -> buttons only 1 button action, Button 1 (hold), is available. where the other 3 buttons are is a mystery button 1 btw turns out to be the phone send button.
So my question is two fold, before I throw my TP out the nearest window...
1. does anybody know of a way to configure a TP so that when you press the back button it actually closes the application?
2. anybody know if there is a registry key or someway to add the other 3 hardware buttons to the settings -> buttons configuration app??
Pls help before I go totally MAD!!!

Hooooo Rahhhhhhhh I found a solution... and it's called HandySwitcher from Dinar Soft and it works perfectly. You have to pay for it but I would willingly pay 10 times the 10 Euro price tag to keep my sanity!!!
You could try AE Button Plus to map different functions to existing buttons (including single, double, triple click and long press).
I've never used wktask, omg.. Why?
Its so nice... thanks for this thread lol
only thing I miss is the memory usage in % that htc task manager got
Not tried AE Buttton but I did try WKTask and I thought the interface was a bit "clunky" to be honest but more importantly the hardware mode didn't work so using the <- button didn't actually close the applications which was what I was looking for.

Idea for a simple app manager.

When you hold down the home button you get a box and in that box there are apps that you are currently running, maybe there is someway to integrate a close button feature in that box on the corner of each app's icon. Its simple and you can manage apps easier, and the task manager apps on the market are for more advanced task management.
When you hold the home button, its not showing running apps, its showing the last apps you ran. So you could have killed the app process, but it will still show up in that list.

Why the "x" button doesn't close apps in Windows Mobile?

Hi, guys, I've been using WM for a long time but this question has always interested me. Why "x" button doesn't close the apps but it rather kind of minimizes them? Ok, it's not problem for me, because I use software that makes "x" button close the apps, but why WM was designed that way? Most of the embedded apps in WM don't even have "exit" command in their menus. It's like WM is designed to has a lot of apps/processes running in the background? I always check Task Manager to verify that there isn't any parasitic app running that can heat up my device and drain the battery.
You can enable this in settings... by default it is set to minimise programs when you tap X, and close them when you tap and hold X. Go into settings, Task Manager, Button and you can set it to close programs buy just tapping X... no extra software needed. And yep, I guess it's designed that way so you can multi task.
when you close an application with ok/x button it doesn't close and stay in ram memory, so the next time you select the same application it will start immediately from the ram..

In Task Manager, there is no setting for the "x" button. At least not in the original WM 6.1/6.5
This is screen of Dutch Rom (6.1 and 6.5) with option as described above.
Moved as not software release.
