So I recently found something interesting. I noticed that when I flashed Phone No Red phone.apk by JsChiSurf to my rom I lose the ability to get VM notifications, and everytime I would reflash my rom the notification would come back. So I took my stock phone.apk and pushed it to ZenHeroFX and Aloysius to see if I would get VM notifications and it worked!!
So for those of you on Cell South and regional carriers want VM notifications using Sprint based roms.
Try flashing the phone.apk to your phone.
I created a flashable zip from my stock rom.
Please let me know how it works out for everyone.
Please nandroid before flashing just incase.
I will leave this as WIP until I get more feedback on this. Just incase doing this causes other problems that I have not noticed.
If you do run into problems please let me know which rom you are using and what carrier you are with. As you may need the phone.apk for your carrier.
Download Phone.zip
Again please nandroid before flashing just incase.
Modded apks
Black Dialer for non-sprint
No onscreen End Call
Stock dialer no haptic feedback

Do you think it might be possible to disable voicemail notifications altogether? Some of us (on froyo especially) have a problem with a stuck voicemail icon that won't go away. It'd be great if we could rid ourselves of that.

Well the VM notifications were removed or disabled from the phone.apk on the sprint roms. So I would think it would be possible to do the same on froyo. I am still new to the android so I am kind of learning as I go.
I found the difference between the the two phone.apks for the sense roms by accident, as I hate the on screen End Call button I just flashed the zip to see what would happen.
In a motion to de-sprint-anize roms, I also would like to add, push a cs (or any other ruu dialer) to regain the speed dial #2 (which is assigned to sprint's service, and you can't change it)
here's JsChaiSurf's black dialer w/out haptic feedback, with control of speed dial #2!
http://www.mediafire.com/?9duxygzh77c4f59
For those that like JsChiSurfs mod that removes the onscreen End Call button, you are in luck I was able to get it working on our stock phone.apk.
There are two versions:
OnScreen End Call Removed
OnScreen End Call and Vibrate on Connect Removed
Please let me know how these work out for everyone

I thought the AOSP roms had vm notifications, at least drachdroid did when I was using it. That might be something you might want to bring up in irc or in the thread.
cell south may be a special kind of voicemail. Im on ACS wireless and I've got working voicemail notifications in CM6 (I have in all builds of cm6 , and also every aosp rom I have tried)
Just flashed this onto my boss' Hero running the infinintefx' stock rom with the framework zip applied (also an ACS wireless phone). Worked perfectly! nice work bro!
The black dialer however did not work, but that's probably a framework difference.

I have a stock dialer with the haptic feedback disable, in the KRomE thread.
I just been a little lazy to move the black dialer images over to that dialer.
But if you want I can do it so you can test it out.

I haven't attempt to get the Sprint Visual Voicemail working on AOSP 1.6, but I will attempt to get it working, once quiet releases the update to AOSP 1.6 later this week.
Good Luck. I have been working on getting it working on 2.1 and ASOP 2.0...yeah...about that. Lots of variables in play

Got specifics on setting up GV's VisualVM going properly? All I would want from GV is the VisualVM. No need for any of the other stuff (calls etc.)
I'll play with it a bit now
I have changed over my voicemail to Google Voice and that seems to be the way to go for all platforms. I have even stopped giving out my regular phone number and instead opt to point people to the gv.
i am curios to know this too. I believed that the message sprint sends to triger visual voicemail was a MMS. Now that MMS has been resolved for this ROM, is visual voicemail working? Anyone tried it?
All you have to do to get the your VM to go to your GVoice acct is log into your GVoice acct on the computer, go to Settings & there will be an option, with instructions, on how to activate/setup it up.
Awesome. Apparently it was working for a good 30mins before I realized it haha.
I like this! I left myself a VM and got an email notification of it (on my phone) before I even opened the Voice app on the phone to make it check for VMs more often heh.
I'd use GV for VM over the Sprint one any day and on any ROM.
I have an app on the market that forces roam. It requires root access, and it has not been tested on every phone/ROM yet, so please let me know if you encounter any issues.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.vuvuzela.roamcontrol
------------------------------------------------------------
I also have a mod to enable forced roam, however it has been difficult to get it to work with many ROMs. I'll be happy to help you out with any questions, although I don't understand why some apks recompile correctly and others do not.
I modded Phone.apk to enable forced roaming. I have a couple of apks attached, but Fresh 2.3.3 is the only one that I've tested. It sounds like people are having mixed success with the DC version, and the EVO version doesn't work.
Lots of credit to incognito03:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=7603#c24
Rename the attached file to "Phone.apk" and push it to /system/app. Not sure if a reboot is required. Remember, always do a nandroid backup when trying something new!
If you want to use this with a different ROM, you should decompile/modify/recompile/sign the apk from the ROM you are using. I attached a diff report for the files I modified so you can see the changes. See my post for instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7625035#post7625035
In the code diff, 0x2 is for "Automatic", and 0x4 is for "Sprint only". There is also code for 0x3 (I'm not sure what this is, EVDO only perhaps? As far as I can tell, it's not used), which I changed to 0x1 for "Roam only".
Let me know if you find any issues. The only thing I've noticed is after enabling, when you go back to change the setting again, it doesn't remember/highlight the "roam only" option like it would for the other settings...seems purely cosmetic.
Could you please enumerate the advantages and useful applications of being able to force roaming?
It would be awesome to have this ported to the moment, what would it take for that to happen?

At my office, I get a terrible Sprint signal but a great Verizon signal. When on automatic, the phone is constantly searching for towers and switching between Sprint and Verizon. The phone is incredibly unreliable (almost unusable), and the battery drains rather quickly. Now when I'm at work, I can just force it to roam and everything is peachy.
Forced roaming is available on winmo phones, and it was the one reason I was hesitant to switch to android.
Wow, well congrats on successfully taking matters into your own hands!
Could you post a screenshot of what it looks like? Just a screenshot of the settings page would be nice.
thats a cool apk
but why not just switch PRLs since you get better Verizon at your work?
I do that at my job or whenever i leave town and its fine dont gotta roam

My mod does the same thing. Sprint has an agreement with Verizon to roam with 1x, not EVDO. I believe the PRL hack (mentioned earlier in this thread) will allow you to roam with EVDO, but I never had much luck with that.

Unfortunately I don't think I can take the time to port the changes. You (or someone) would have to decompile your Phone.apk (using Apk Manager, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701) and see if the changes I made (see attachment on my first post) apply to the Moment.

Take the app and put it in with system apps....then change permissions to match with the rest and reboot.
Newest version will end in .34

hey guys i too have my evo on boost mobile everything works fine including 4g but my vvm refuses to work. it wont give me any notification when i have voicemail. when i tried the sending a voicemail to [email protected] didnt help. it says voicemail could not be provisioned contact customer service. any help would be greatly appreciated
Sprint VVM doesn't work on Boost, at least not on my EVO. And 4G worked at first (I guess phone was still activated on Sprint) but it stopped working, not logging in anymore. And I don't get the NEW VOICEMAIL notification either. I have to call voicemail to check if I have any. I also tried the [email protected] from the app and it still didn't work. I removed the app completely and looking for a solution to re-enable the NEW VOICEMAIL notification...
Search for "Voicemail Notifier" in the market.
Thanks again!
4g?

I highly doubt 4G will work. It might work until the old Sprint account gets deactivated. Like what happened to my EVO. 4G worked for a while, then it stopped working, had to turn it off. 3G works great though.
Boost Mobile Evo Voicemail
Just letting you guys know that after many complaints about how inconsistenly the Voicemail Notifier App was working on CDMA phones like the EVO on Boost & Sprint. The creator of the app and the newest version of the app DOES NOT support Boost and other CDMA phones. Truth is it NEVER worked the way it was supposed to but at least now they have STATED it. I'm still looking for a quality app that works! If anyone has a suggestion I'd love to hear it!

Well, is it possible that perhaps someone can construct a new app that can do this? I for one would not mind donating my part to the project. If not a Voicemail notification app, then perhaps an app that does conditional call forwarding to like lets say Google voice. I will be happy to support anyone that can do this.
I've run into this on multiple ROMs, and every time it seems like it only affects some people. As far as I've been able to find, the common link hasn't been found. It has now, and the fix is incredibly simple.
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Dialer > Clear Cache
Reboot
Do not restore SMS/MMS/APN Dialer storage data
This was posted in the VaelPak thread, but wanted to get it out there for everyone.
Edit:
I tested this on a fresh install before posting.. both breaking it and then fixing it. But when I restored my broken nand backup, the fix did not work. So mileage may vary, but flashing a fresh install and not restoring the dialer storage should still be a winner.
See post #4 for another confirmed cause and fix
THANKS! Been having this issue since and I didn't feel like searching everywhere for this...until you posted it up here, which made my day a breeze!
Thanks awesome find
There is more to this.
The original cause and solution were both confirmed, but another one has been found. It was caused by a battery mod. So conceivably MMS could be broken by any UI mod that includes /system/framework/framework-res.apk
The good news is, replacing the file with the one that came with your rom should fix MMS after a reboot.
This cause and solution have also both been confirmed. But what about the mod that did it is not known right now.
There seems to be many causes to this problem and seems a fix is based upon each individual and there phone. I see people with this error from a factory ROM and fresh phone. Some issues can also be fixed by un-checking delivery report/read report in messaging settings.
*UPDATE* ~ Possible Fix ~
Not sure if this applies to all but it fixed my problems altogether. In the apn settings there are 2 listed one for Internet and one for MMS. Take the MMSC, MMS Proxy, and the MMS Port settings from the MMS apn and copy those to the internet apn. No need to reset. And don't delete any apn's either.
I can t get this to work

Don't worry about it?
This isn't even the right thread for that.
I just returned an Evo, rooted, with a custom ROM on it. They didn't care. The chance of them seeing S-OFF instead of S-ON is pretty much zero.
is this the same problem as
when roaming i am unable to make calls nor connect to the internet. i tried calling and i get this message
"unable to connect, this is an unauthorized devise on the Verizon network...please try your call again........"
I had this issue and it was due to a messed up xml file in system/customize/MNS/default.xml
Unfortunately for me, the only way I fixed it was to hard reset with with the proper edits to the file.
I was learning how to build ROMs and edit certain xml files and I guess I screwed up the syntax of this particular one and ruined my MMS

Not the same. Call sprint and tell them you can't make calls while roaming and that you get the verizon message. Tell them you need to repush the network information. That'll fix it quick.

I use Google Voice -- It will replace your current VM system and also sends you emails with your voicemail transcribed into text... give it a shot!
I also use it to ask me to use Google Voice to dial out or allow android to dial...because I hate dialer and if you hit connect/call it immediately dials the first number on the list.. googlevoice at least lets me choose which one I want or none at all.. Its like putting a condom on voice dialer! (Ok, not really, but....)
^ that or youmail. I like youmail because if the phone doesnt ring sometimes (out of reception or if youre on a call sometimes) youmail will send you a email or text showing the missed call. I archive all missed calls/voicemails (for work) so it works out perfectly.
back on topic, I tried deleting the dialer storage, but my mms settings still show some wierd Orange.UK url for the mnsc and i have no idea how that happened. I will try to reflash the rom and see if that fixes it...
Thanks for the suggestion, just got everything setup. Google voice works like a charm.
I take no credit for this, all I did was build it from the BravoC build tree and add in the latest kernel that Kali posted in the blitzrom thread.
NEW BUILD UP!! flashable over previous release.
What works:
- wifi (and wifi hotspot)
- back-light turns off
- optical joystick
- video camera mode is selectable (but doesn't record)
- USAA (maybe all protected?) app is in market and usable for deposit.
- Voice input using the IME_Mod keyboard
what's broken:
- video camera does not record
- MMS sending (this has been true of every AOSP rom I have used on both Hero and Desire)

this WILL NOT WORK ON HSPA DESIRES! this is ONLY for CDMA desires. (we need a cdma forum!) the kernel I'm using is the cyanogen-mod kernel with some patches by Kali that he based off the HTC source code.
The nightlies you are using are probably further along than this anyway, this was a quick and dirty test build I whipped up because I could find nothing in the way of cyanogen-mod for the CDMA desire, closest was Blitzrom but that was just plain AOSP and lacked the cool cyanogen features.
LOL that's why I said "I'll wait"
I could not get this to load. Am I missing something
what did you do exactly? any errors?
standard rom loading procedure that works for me is:
1. nandroid backup
2. wipe data/cache/dalvik
3. install rom.zip
4. install google apps.zip
5. reboot

updated my first post with a patch for the roaming indicator. I put in my carrier ACS, if your on another carrier sorry but now you get to feel my pain as all the Hero roms I used said sprint
if you wish to customize for your carrier follow this:

Hell ya its about time an aosp banner said ACS!!!!
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I'm a little confused as to why the roaming fix didn't work for me. I flashed the "roaming-fixed.zip" archive, but I still see the roaming indicator. I'm on the same network, ACS, if that helps at all. I didn't get a boot loop, but my DesireC still thinks it's roaming. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I'm with Alaska Communications http://alaskacommunications.com/
They are an ACG member just like cellular south. same version of the hardware and same radio. the build.prop is setup like USCC but that doesn't really matter much. I ran CM6 on my ACS hero with a sprint build.prop just fine.

Thanks for doing this. I've been wanting to test drive CM6 for a while now. Having some issues though. I'm still not getting wifi to work. So far the only thing that seems different from the first build is that the roaming indicator is off. When I tried to reboot using the reboot option from the power menu it got stuck in a boot loop. It started fine after I pulled the battery. After rebooting none of my widgets would load. I had to redo all of them. Also, when I was talking on the phone yesterday it got really hot. This doesn't make sense to me since I have it set to clock at 245 with the screen off. And is portable hotspot supposed to be working? It seems to react the same way as it does with wifi.
Gave this a whirl, and I am encountering a problem with my wifi not working, it's giving me an error. Everything else seems good though.
not sure what happened with the wifi, but if you flash this kernel it works (hotspot too) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1694782/kern35-cdma-final.zip
i remember inserting that kernel into the build, but sure enough, didn't work until i flashed it separately.
i've noticed that my widgets seem to stretch oddly. anyone else having that issue?
psychache that's odd about the reboot boot loop. mine has rebooted fine both normally and recovery over a dozen times. I tried on a second desire i have access too and it worked fine as well.

Did you have any issues after rebooting? I lost all my widgets when I did, meaning I can't use any of widgets other than the preinstalled stuff.
did you move any of the apps associated with those widgets to sd card? or perhaps set install location to sd card? you cannot store widgets on sd.
