I seem to have an issue with the colors of the webpage background color (and sometimes images) changing slightly when scrolling in the browser. It seems to change only with some colors. It's most obvious on pages like XDA and lifehacker.com If I hold down my finger on the screen, or scroll, the background shade seems to change and dithering becomes more obvious in images. It goes back to normal as soon as I pull my finger off the screen. It's not huge, but it is annoying.
I wish I could record what I'm talking about, but I don't have a spare camera.
Is anyone else having this issue?
I think I know what you're talking about mate...Ive noticed that on my desire too. I believe its to do with page rendering .... Im hypothesizing its the Android OS adjusting screen renders as it gets ready for any scrolling or zooming of a webpage.
Obviously thats just a personal theory.....would need someone with an Evo 4g or droid/x to determine if this is an android issue/amoled issue or whatever.
Doesnt affect usage though does it?
Cheers
Oz
I just opened my xda app. To ask the exact same question and the first post was this. I notice this on almost every page that has a white background. Not that its a real issue just curious if any one else sees it too.

It does't really affect usage. It's just a bit strange and a little bit distracting. It seems to be at the software level, so I suppose a firmware update could change that.
Thanks for confirming guys!
i first experienced this when google's main image pixelated as i was scrolling... is this [similar to] what you are talking about?
i just assumed they did it to keep the scrolling smooth. for what reason? don't really know!

Hi,
I'm having a weird problem I don't even know where to post. I recently created a picture which is perfectly visible in the gallery, and browser. But when I set it as wallpaper, I can see very visible banding effects. Is this a software bug or a hardware issue?
The wallpaper in question is linked below here:

Thanks.

Try using an app called Wallpaper Set & Save. I use it and it makes the banding and detail look much better. Hope this helps!
Hey, I tried it. Thanks, it works well. Though one wonders what's the problem with the default one.
I think because of the ability to resize it, it must do something weird.
Launcher Pro widgets can do this too unless you use High Quality mode.
Is anyone else seeing that sometimes for no reason I can discern, the font size will change on the SMS bubbles from Small to Medium?
Driving me a bit bonkers.
Yep. also I switch my sms display list to 1 line instead of the default 2 or 3 and it will randomly switch back. very annoying
Yeah I'm having this issue too.

Yup, I'm seeing that too. In addition, it seems to ignore me when I try to manually make a font size switch.
are you guys accidentally pinching or pulling while on your text messages?
that changes the sizes

Good suggestion. Didn't know that. But that's not the problem in my case. My font size changes between medium and a size that I can't get to by pinching.
wow
Haha same problem! Goes from small to medium too!
It works like pinch and zoom on browser. Play with it till you are comfortable with it.

Having the same issue gotta be a software quirk.
is it possible to use a 3rd party SMS on ICS?
Any reason not to use one until the problem is resolved?
Same problem here.

i can confirm i've also been seeing this problem. i'm def not causing it myself. i will get a text and open it and the font size is already changed back to medium. i hate this quite a lot.
the other day mine was so small i could hardly even read the text...pinched and zoomed it back to normal (fairly small but readable) and haven't been able to get it to go back that low again. We will see what happens.
It seems like there are a few small software glitches that could probably be fixed by our lovely dev's if we just had some ROOT!!
also having text issue with email app
+1 for malfunctioning font sizes in messages app.
Also, i have noticed that in teh email app, my mail's smallest font size is HUGE. no matter if i change the font size to 'small' or pinch to zoom out, the smallest size is huge and causes many of my messages - especially ones containing images or charts - to be nearly impossible to read without lots of panning around. this was never an issue on my artix 4G with GB. the zoom out feature would allow for enough zoom to make the text way smaller than necessary. Anyway, this is killing my productivity on the go. i use the email app specifically for my corporate email via exchange, just as i did on my atrix.
imo there shouldn't be selectable sizes for the font size via the menu. there should just be pinch to zoom in and out. not sure why both are here.
also to note, if you set it to medium and pinch zoom out, that size of the text there can get even smaller by selecting text size small and pinching some more. very weird how they implemented this.
I am definitely having this issue too. The best thing to do is call HTC Tech Support so they can log the issue. Eventually as enough people report the issue they will recognize it and get it fix.
Even though it is a pain, it is the best thing to do in the long run so HTC gets it fixed.
Here is the url for the tech support contact info
http://www.htc.com/us/support/phone-support
This is a known issue. I've received following update from HTC
Nicholas from HTC Support, UK
" I have asked a collegue and this issue is currently under investigation, an update will be pushed out shortly to resolve this"
Count me in as well.
I do like the smaller font size in the messaging app though. But it never stays that way. Always goes back and forth.

Ha! Same issue here. While it hasn't annoyed me, just confused me, it's nice to see that they're looking into it.
It boggles my mind how HTC can push this phone to market with such an obvious and seemingly easy-to-fix bug. I want my sms inbox to display 1 LINE...not the default 2 or 3. Yet every time the sms app is killed or the phone reboots, it goes right back to 2 lines even though in the settings its still listed as 1. So annoying.
I'm using Galaxy S7(non-edge). I'm dealing with a screen color uniformity issue (as you can see here).
I showed the device to guys at Samsung to create a technical report in order to get a replacement. But they can't even see a problem with my display. Since they didn't even bother the images I showed they asked me whether I can see a problem by playing some videos and all. But I said it's difficult to notice the problem when displaying various colors at once. Otherwise they asked me whether I can show the problem within the system(not with any images and videos). So I opened the Internet(Samsung stock browser) in 'Secret Mode' went to tabs section and displayed that screen(grey background) by closing the foreground tab. I want to confirm that there is no gradient on that screen. Can any of you guys post a screenshot of that screen?
Thanks
Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?

Funny! I fell for it. It won't let you take a screenshot when in secret mode.
Try using HW buttons or Pixolor app please
Dude these idiots at samsung have no idea.
I had the same issue MULTIPLE TIMES!
amoled screens are not all equal and I almost always notice some minor flaw in every display.
My current one has pretty even color but there are 3 dark horizontal lines going across the screen in different areas. Kind of like shadows under the glass thats bery subtle but definitely visible when browsing stuff and scrolling up and down.
Just call and ask for a warranty replacement over the phone

Samsung OS doesn't allow to make screenshot in incognito mode in its browser. But I can confirm, that its background has no gradient on it.

Thanks for your reply. May I know how you are able to confirm it?
Recently got the Pixel 3a and love it. The only thing that bothers me, on dark wallpapers, the notification bar has a greyish backdrop under it. Is there anyway to remove this from both the home screen and the app switcher screen? Nova launcher seems to clear it from the home screen, but the app switcher still has it.
I can't attach photos to show, but just set a pure black wallpaper then look at the top of the screen.
Could you try using a different launcher? I think Nova Laumcher has a option to show/hide shadow on desktop.

Yeah, I have Nova already and it removes it from the home screen, but it's still on the app switcher screen, unfortunately.

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for this, but I still wanted to add, that I had my 3a sent in for repair partly for this exact behavior.
I can't link a photo atm, but on a solid black wallpaper I could see ~4 brighter bars at the top of the screen, and something similar at the bottom (like LCD/LED displays suffer from clouding, but technically impossible on an OLED). I recommend you to turn on the screen rotation of the Pixel Launcher, because it follows orientation, therefore proving it's not a hardware issue per se.
Like you said, it doesn't appear on screenshots either, so it is beyond recognition of screen capture. Another software layer maybe.
Could you also carefully check dark greys and blacks of any video? Those colors seemed to be muddy for me, especially noticeable when using a black filter dimmer in CF Lumen.
Also, I might add that my Pixel didn't have this issue for the first months, it suddenly appeared and was even gone for one day before sticking.
So yeah, I guess I had this exact issue as well, let me know if you find out anything and I'll make sure to let you know how my repair went.

Try flashing this module via magisk manager and see if it is any better... modified pixel launcher.

Do the attached images show the issue you are talking about? Adding to my post above, that I contacted the Google support chat, and after some troubleshooting they told me to send it in for repair.
Still waiting for it to get back, it has been more than 2 weeks now (including holidays).

Yeah, you can see the grey gradient at the top. It's like a backdrop on the status bar. Yours looks a bit worse than mine though, as mine doesn't stand out as bad as yours. What that is called, is gradient banding. And I checked some dark videos for you and don't see it in videos. Also, my grey backdrop at the top doesn't have banding, it's a smooth gradient. You can google gradient banding to see examples of what it looks like.

I don't have a rotted device....yet. I might consider doing it soon. Is this just a custom file with the backdrops removed?

Gotcha, I always described it as if a gradient got its color depth reduced, good to know there is an actual term for that.
And thanks for checking the greys. My whole display was affected by this issue, rendering darker tones what felt like yellowish/greenish, looking muddy.
And to reiterate, it became like this from one second to another, so if anything broke, you might be affected before noticing, because for you it looked like this from the start, from what I understood. I hadn't had a chance to compare it to another 3a, maybe that's something for you to check, just to be sure.
Still, I'll let you know when I get mine back, if the repair helped and if they found the culprit, or if I'm going crazy entirely.

Yes, just an edited Pixel Launcher.
Quick update as promised:
I have my 3a back and they told me they replaced the device instead of repairing it.
The banding is now gone (of course), but the drop shadow is still there, although barely noticeable. Hopefully the other suggestion worked out for you.
So thanks for telling me about banding and sorry for a possible confusion. Really glad to be back on team 3a though.
I seem to have an ugly background blur effect is this normal. it shows up on a screenshot directly taken from the watch, so I seem to think it's a bad implementation of blur effects in the ui but does anyone else have this issue. I have included a photo of what I see and a screenshot from the watch too this was taken within the settings app then I have taken a further photo from the main watch face which shows a similar effect but a lot more uniformed which makes me think its a bad implementation of the blur effect.
Does anyone else have this?
Mine looks just like yours. Do not think it is an issue.

Just a really bad and ugly implementation then
I would say so. As long as your main screen and apps look OK, I would not worry about it.
