Captivate Demo Videos - Captivate General

The display unit at the ATT store had a couple of HD videos on the phone (or the sd card). Those were absolutely stunning, make you buy the right away. however, I don't see them on my phone. I had to do a factory reset (for other reasons) before I started using the phone, so I am not sure if they got removed by that.
Does anyone else have videos? If so, could you please share?
Thanks
HK

The Captivate does not come loaded with any videos.

I do not have any videos on my phone and I have not performed a factory reset yet. Perhaps they were on the small SD card that came with the phone - I replaced it with my BB Bold SD card right away.

EDIT: Wow, maybe I should proof read my replies a bit before hitting submit, eh?

Those videos were just there for show. They are not actually on the real phones, only the floor models.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Too bad those videos would have been awesome to show off the screen on this phone.

You can find HD mpeg4 videos on Vimeo and download them to your device.

Reformatting the SD card

Ok, so i did search before i posted this and i even looked through all 5 of the similar threads that popped up when i wrote the title for this one but none of them answers my question so i'm posting...
Background:
I'm pretty new to Android, got a Dell Streak back in Oct '10, and loved it. Rooted, put DJ_Steve's StreakDroid on yada yada... Broke my streaks screen and got an Inspire from my Best Buy warranty.
Now, to root this Inspire it seems its a LOT more involved... Making a gold card etc.
My question:
When you reformat the SD card, what happens to all the folders that are on it? Do they get recreated or are they gone for good? Are they even that important? I noticed some Adobe, Yahoo folders, which i assume can be re-created easily once the apps are reinstalled/opened back up but others on there like dcim, Android, Data, etc etc that look to be more important. Do i need to do anything special or just hit reformat? I'm looking at making my included SD card the gold card and taking my Streaks old 16GB card and using it for day-to-day use. So i guess i'm just looking for any "gotchas".
Thanks in advance to anyone who offers their help.

If any important data is in those folders, you should save them on your computer. For example, pictures in DCIM folder, music, videos.... or documents that you created..
While creating the gold card, the sd card will be formatted and you will lose all data.
After the phone is rooted, you can then format the card using the phone's "Format SD card" tool, and then use the card as normal.
All those folders will be recreated once those apps are installed.
Edit: Also, if you look in the Dev's section, there are tools that will help you with the whole process of rooting your phone.
Thanks Kirk! Yeah i've been reading up on the SuperOne Click and the Hacker Kit. Just trying to read and reread the stuff so i know what to expect. I'd like to watch the tutorial video for Super One Click but i'm at work and Youtube is blocked so i'll watch it at home tonight.
Just looking to see what one is easier and would give me the best chance of not royally screwing up my phone. I kinda get the gold card thing and what it does but seems so silly at the same time that i have to use an SD card and then put it away to use it for later if i decide i wanna go back to stock...
I guess the ease of hacking the Streak kinda spoiled me. Especially for my first Android phone

Use a proxy site to be able to watch the video at your work place. Something like this --> http://www.proxeasy.com/webclient.aspx EDIT: Scratch that... This proxy site doesn't allow flash content unless you subscribe. Sorry. You can try other proxy sites
The inspire is my second android phone. I had the captivate and it was very easy to root. Prior to the captivate, I had the eyephone. So glad I went with an android phone. Sick and tired of the same UI with iphones.
Although the entire rooting process for the inspire seems overwhelming, it's actually pretty straight forward when you follow the instructions.
I haven't heard anyone "bricking" their inspire yet and if you get stuck in the rooting process, search the forums and you will most likely find your solution.
What route did you decide to use? The Hacker Kit or SuperOneClick?
Yeah i had a Captivate for about a month, it was just a loaner from AT&T until the Streak Come out. Previous to that i had the iPhone 3g as well. Hated playing in Steve's sandbox... and i abhor iTunes. I can't think of a bigger POS software.
I guess the Streak had its moments trying to root. I used the QDL tool which needed to be run through Fastboot with a couple commands. It was getting the damn Dell ABD driver running correctly on the PC which took the longest time.
Anyway, thanks for the info Kirk. I'll see if i can't get this thing cooked up tonight. I really wanna try CoreDroid, and get the battery life on this phone to a respectable level. If its just sitting in standby its ok, but as soon as you use it the percentages just tick away quite quickly.

I used the hack kit. Went ok. Had some slight issue when i tried to use a 1GB SD card that apparently is too small for a gold card. So, then I decided to just use the SD card that came with the phone and all went well!
I also have to agree with hating itunes... They keep cramming useless features and just makes the whole user experience a little less interesting.
Im glad that with android devices, you don't need any specific program to sync your stuff to the phone... Just plug in and done!

[Q] Issue with I9003 - Pseudo Factory Reset

Hi forum!!
I've been a happy Samsung Galaxy I9003 owner for a while now, and I've always come to this forum for reference on any issues encountered. But right now I have an issue i'm having a hard time understanding, and it's quite a mistery.
Everything started when I downloaded the new Gingerbread update. The phone was wonderful, worked perfectly, but it had one little issue. I left it one night, and the morning after when i picked it up i saw that it was prompting for the initial data (language, use 3G-Wifi, etc). I completed the form once more, and it was back to factory...but in a weird way. Contacts were gone, SMS were gone, APNs were gone, WiFis were gone...but my apps were still there! They were even ordered alphabetically in the menu! Weird, really weird...Background was back to the factory one, icons on the main desktop were back to factory ones, ringtones were back to factory ones. But all my app configurations were still there, emails, gmail, market, corporate email...it was all there.
I discarded this as an issue with the Gingerbread ROM i installed (from Kkrraazzyy's post, the last one), so I downgraded to Froyo once more. Now, why would I ever want to do that?
Idiot me did not look into what version I was running. So I tried the version i remembered I had installed. Worked nice, installed nice...but....next morning...SAME ISSUE! Once more the initial configuration and the same thing...no APNs, no SMS, no Contacts, no nothing, but apps and configs, purrfect!
Now, what I did was move to other Froyo images thinking that I might have gotten the wrong one. I discarded 4 or 5 of them, with different things not working on my phone exactly.
So, after a bit of debating with myself, I decided to upgrade to another GB, but not the final version, a previous one. When i connected it to Samsung Kies, to restore my backup, Kies greeted me with a "I've got a new firmware for your phone...do you wish to upgrade?". I thought "Why not? Maybe if the Samsung software is performing the upgrade, then it might work, considering that i wouldn't be intervening and possibly not interfering with it. So it upgraded, took a considerable amount of time in comparison to ODIN, but it went through.
How did it go? Smooth as silk...everything was wonderful! Apps worked, hardware worked, phone run well...backup went in perfectly...i was so happy! Last night I was watching a movie with it, it was great! So i went to sleep with a happy smile on my muzzle, only to wake up this morning and find the phone with....THE FRIGGIN' START FORM ONCE MORE!! FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!
Once more, no APNs, no SMS, no Contacts, no WiFi, no nothing!!! Back to factory partially!
So now i'm thinking...firmware is out of the question...is there any chance there might be something physically wrong with my phone by now?? Something like...I don't know...I haven't got the slightest idea. So i'm open to ideas about what this might be about..
Oh, a colorful note...don't know if it has something to do, but i consider it sporty to let you know about it. A weird thing about a Froyo version i installed, was that when you woke up the phone, it would show a red sign on the top saying "Internal SD memory removed". I was truly shocked since I thought that the internal memory could not be removed without the phone crashing. But well, i just discarded that data at the time as an issue with the image.
Ideas, anyone? If not, i'm guessing i'll just place it under my car, ran it over, and get another with the insurance...
I think I heared such problem once a time. Try in this way
1. flash kpe with all 4 files
2. flash kpm single file as pda file.
3. do factory reset
if it solve ur problem then its better for u. But if u still face internal sd card error problem then straight way flash stock firmware which is available in ur country & go to samsung center & tell them that suddenly this problem is occured. Dont tell them that u have ever flashed anything on it.

LMAO, I lol'd hard at your post regarding it went overnight FUU.
Firstly, the post was a little long, but interesting. Me gusta.
The problem could be the following
- What class is your SD card? Some tend to buy cheap ones, or some tend to offer when you get a SALE they pitch in a ****ty SD card that literally messes your phone. Made in Taiwan > Made in China. For some. There have been cases when the SD card has not been "ejected" properly the phone tends to receive this as a crash and default sets everything back to stock *Apple does this aswell*. But ofcourse I implore you to try using ANOTHER SD card. If your using one that used to be from a Nokia phone then you need to format that ****. Some files in Nokia cause issues with the Android, this happened when I first got my phone aswell. I would suggest getting one from branded companies, Kingston/SanDisk, IMO, Sandisk is the best. Cheap yet to the mark.
- What put me on edge was your contacts and messages being gone. Maybe it's SD related. Iunno.
PS: Don't use Kies. Kies is horrible. If 2 ugly trolls mated, Kies was probably the result.
To test: Use XXKPH/XXKPM Choice is yours, Don't know how to flash it? Link is under my sig, Remove your SD card. Use it for a day, Fill up the internal memory with atleast 500MB of stuff. Lastly? Pray that overnight the trollfairy doesn't swap your phone with a factory reset one .
Hey Misledz! Thanks for your reply!
About the SD Card, I'm using a Kingston Class 4, 8GB one. But the issue is presenting with "Internal SD Card". While i'm doing this with the phone, just out of precaution, i take it out and i haven't placed it inside my phone yet.
And the whole "Trollfairy" thing, it's starting to look like a viable explanation to it, LOL!!

@Collie, Well the problem happens at times when you don't factory reset. *2767*3855# that should get you in to a manual factory reset. The phone's internal memory sometime's has issues with that, You may however need to flash the latona file to repartition the drive. After the repartition, the flashing of the firmware and lastly, le factory reset. That should serve as a stable ground base
Kingston Nice.
Updates?
KIES really is a POS. Every time i flash a new fw and my phone does the initial boot while its connected to the pc I see the horrid screen on my phone reminding me that KIES is installed on my pc. FUUUUUUUUU

About that, maybe I'm doing the reset in an incorrect way. I've been using Vol +, OK, Power to enter the second recovery mode and factory reset the phone. I don't know if this is the same as using the code.
Update on what I did:
I installed the last version of Gingerbread once more, flashed with Odin. This time i did not install any app or register in google, i just left it as it was. This was done saturday afternoon. At night, i took it with me, and i left it in my bag while I was at the club. When i got back to it, around 6 AM, it hadn't rebooted. So i went home, went to sleep, woke up at midday for lunch and....FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!
LOL the irony of the best order. Well did you try without the sdcard? That's your last option from your side, the next possible is getting the unit changed if you are under warranty, just don't mention odin, rather always blame kies LOL. If the end of the world happened, kies. World War 3,kies. There was a user who had the same issue reported like 5months ago, he had internal ROM problem where the phone failed to save the information it was given causing it to say the internal was corrupt? He ended up getting a new unit and found out later the unit he had previously was a faulty handset

SD has been out since day 1, since I started having this issue, first thing i thought is "this idiot is saving its own files to the SD instead of its own memory, and when it reboots for some reason it can't find the files and goes nuts".
So yes, i'm thinking about just taking it to the store and getting a new one...
THAT'S IT! I'm taking it to the store tomorrow...
Now it's just rebooting itself...Samsung logo going on and on....

Videos won't play on gs3

Sorry if this has been covered somewhere bit I cannot find it anywhere.
I am running Verizon jelly bean Rom rooted with a oc kernel. I am unable to pay any videos from the sd card, even videos just taken with the phone just days ago. This happened before when I was in ics stock tw, so I don't think it has anything to do with being custom.
Also tried clearing data on media storage but didn't help a bit.
Anyone have any suggestions other than trying a different media player?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Trying to see if someone smarter than me can shed some light on this. Is this true or not?
I read that on the galaxy s3 when saving videos to the sd card they are more susceptible to corruption which may be what is happening. I removed the corrupted files and will take some videos of the kids tomorrow and see if there is some truth to this.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Your best bet may be to reformat the sd card to Fat32 and record a random video or two to see if this is resolved. Unfortunately I don't think there's much more to try after that. I still have videos from vacation in July that work fine even at this very moment. I'm sure with anything saved to the external sd card, corruption is possible but I doubt its more common on the GSIII than any other phone with external sd support.

[Q] Odys Xelio 10PRO Tablet General Q&A

Let's try to keep all Q&A's for this tablet in one thread for now. Wonder if I should drop tips here too?
Autocreates junk files
ONE folder gets filled with junk files which renders the entire tablet almost unusable. I can't even delete the files.
All I can do is to shut down the tablet, connect the SD to a pc and backup all files, EXCEPT the backup folder as it's corrupted.
My tablet is running on Android 4.1.x (it DOES say "x" in the phone info) stock rom with root access.
It's ONLY folders called something with "Backup", like "Backups" and "TitaniumBackup" that have been affected so far.
It's also only the folder with that name on my EXTERNAL SD that's affected.
Several virus scans have been performed which came up clean.
I even wiped the entire unit including System/data/cache, also to no avail.
This issue happens MORE than once per day. The tablet gets very sluggish, and the files are there.
I found out that when I did NOT have a folder with "backup" in it, then it runs for days with no issues.
Note that I also have a phone (LG Optimus 2X) which have NO problems. The phone uses a rooted Android 4.2.2 custom rom.
I attached a dual screenshot showing a clean folder and one full of junk. Note dates for creation.
Anyone have any ideas as to what causes it?
Further testing shows that other folders are ALSO affected, but ONLY folders containing Titanium Backup Pro backup files.
Even more testing shows that even if I try to use a sub-sub folder, then it still happens.
I even tried using a folder name containing spaces and danish national letters:
"/mnt/external_sd/Titanium/Sikkerhedskopier/HÃ¥ber at denne mappe virker/"
Still get the junk files, as seen on the screenshot.
Note the reported size and date of the files.
Dates seem very random, and although all file managers shows the SDCard is almost empty,
then the files put together adds up to much more than the 16GB the card is in size. So something is NOT right.
I have also noted that I can delete SOME of them with Root Explorer, but as soon as I do a refresh then new files are already made.
Logcat only shows files deleted, but not added.
I could REALLY use some help with this.
FURTHER testing shows the files are ONLY created when Titanium Backup Pro is set to do regular backups, so I am beginning to suspect it's a combination of my tablet AND Titanium that is the cause.
I have noticed my tablet kills the menu at what to ME is random intervals.
It doesn't matter if I even USE the tablet, just as long as it's on.
Anyone have an idea what might be the cause and maybe how to fix it?
I have attached an alogcat file, from a point where it happened.
I WANTED to attach it, but it seems like I am not allowed... can't even use smilies????
Managed to attach the logcat that failed the other day.
Must admit that I an beginning to wonder if I just write for my self, or somebody is actually READING this?

The manual is in german though.
If someone can/want to translate that to english for me then I'll add it to the package.
Looks like I am the only one in the world who bought this tablet

Odd thing is that when I don't set Titanium Backup schedule then I don't get junk files.
But the tablet still write protect the SD card at random intervals. Even when Titanium Backup isn't installed.

TIP!
How to add GPS functionality to the tablet using an Android phone:
1. Download "Bluetooth GPS" from Google Play to the tablet.
2. Download "GPS over BT" from Google Play to the phone.
3. Pair the two devices.
4. Start up the programs and connect from the tablet to the phone.
This has been tested with a 4.2.3 phone and a 4.1.x tablet.

Just ordered my 10", and was wondering if anyone could give me a quick rundown on installing Google Play Store on it, is it just a matter of side loading the apk or is there more to it ?

It's pre-installed, so no worries
All you have to do is enter your Gmail address and password during setup and you are all set.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I believe we are talking/looking at 2 different versions of the same thing though. Probably same hardware with just a little bit different versions of firmware/software. Odys/Xelio. I don't have mine in hand yet, should have sometime next week and will defiantly let you know how it goes when I get it, still learning the Android OS, have had a Nexus 7 for a little over a year now, and a HTC Evo 4G LTE for some months now, so this tablet was purchased just for the 10" screen for reading and have sold my Nexus waiting for the 7-2 (STILL)..
I had links to both, but still can't post URL's yet, sorry
Eh what were you thinking about then, when talking about Google Play Store?
I want to help when I can
Update: Early morning here so...
It's not the Xelio10Pro you are getting?

Well, I got it yesterday sideloaded the Play Store and several other apps & apk's with no issues, it seems to be a very light a sleek little tablet with no bloatware at all, I really want to like this tablet but the LCD screen is just awful. I really wish I could adjust contrast or something more then just brightness, the glossy face on it and the res just make it really hard to read or look at any sort of pictures, to just read text isn't bad but with pics it just has such a glare and brightness it's just weird to explain. I had already ordered some generic 10.1" tablet screen protectors and they should be here in a few days, so I am really hoping that they are a little bit matte and it'll help or fix the glare issue as I really want to like this tablet.
I know how you feel.
I generally have issues with the touch sensitivity, but have gotten used to it now.
I also noticed the reflection from the screen, which is pretty bad. Makes the tablet useless in sunlight. Hope you can give some good news on that when you get the cover.
It IS good as an ebook reader as long as your surroundings isn't too bright.
I also think it is quite powerful, considering the price.

I have been in contact with Odys support with a few questions.
They told me that they will NOT update the tablet. Not even to 4.2.2. They claim it requires too much of the hardware,
even though I told them I have a phone with only one fourth the memory of the tablet and a smaller CPU running 4.2.2 smoothly.
It seems like they have decided to solve all problems with a standard answer: reflash the stock firmware.
They even told me to do that AFTER I told them I already tried that.

I decided NOT to use my external SD card after the last two restores to factory default (including full flash of factory firmware).
First time after that restore, I installed Titanium Backup Pro, and set up a schedule as always.
This resulted in my INTERNAL SD card became read-only.
Only way to fix that was another firmware flash.
I then decided NOT to install Titanium Backup Pro again.
The tablet has been working perfectly ever since.

First, thanks a lot for your monologue
And no, you're not the only person with this tablet. And this was the only place where I found firmware... thanks so much for uploading this, helped me a lot as I nearly bricked my tab while rooting it. Now after flashing it with the new FW, everything works smooth again And this without contacting Odys, and late on a saturday night, perfect, made my day!
Btw., I have the same issue with the huge Titanium Backup folder... :/
Now that I know that I am not alone, then I have this to say:
You are all welcome to post your experiences with this tablet (both good and bad)

Music Playback Problem

Greetings everybody! Once again, i need your valuable help in resolving a problem which appeared to my girlfriend's device:
She has bought Sony Xperia L a couple of days ago and she is very satisfied with everything, except from a VERY ANNOYING bug:When she places music files to the internal storage, the phone plays them fine, without any problems. When she places the MP3 files to her external SD though, parts of different songs blend with the one that is already playing.
Let me give you an example:
We have track A, track B and Track C. Instead of the phone playing the whole track and then move to the next one, it will instead play the first few minutes of track A, then switch to the middle of Track C, then switch back to Track A, then switch to Track B and so forth. The strange think is, that the name of Track A is displayed, as if the playback progressed normaly.
I would really appreciate it if you could enlighten us, since both my girlfriend and me are very dissapointed
Thank you in advance

Have you tried killing the app process? If not, please do try. This problem is quite rare.

You might wanna be a bit more detailed than that, when you're trying to give a solution to someone new. She may not know how to go about doing that.
Anyways back on topic now. If you're referring to force stopping the process( not sure if that's what you meant) , that can be done by going into, Settings > Apps > Walkman, from here you can force stop the process. You might also wanna clear app data and cache, hope that solves it.
If not I wonder if it's a problem with your girlfriend's SD card
Don't worry that's ok. Even if she doesn't know how to do it, i can do it for her, I am very familiar with android after all . I did all of the above yesterday, we formated the SD AGAIN and we transfered 10 random songs via usb for testing, everything is fine so far. I will keep you updated on future progress

I really don't know why this is happening. Have you tried what I said ? clearing cache/data your boyfriend should know how to do that. Or the problem could be associated with your sd card, try getting a different one hopefully that might solve the problem.
Well I did all of the above for her and the problem is still there, that's the point Should I try factory resetting her handset today?
Could it be that android has developed a bug that will eventually be ironed out? I really am at loss... Even though I have had android for years, it is the first time i come across this kind of problem. If I am not able to do anything, the next stop is the Sony Service Center.
Such a shame, considering that the device is brand new and unmodified. No rooting, no custom roms, absolutely stock.
i think u should try reflashing the firmware dude

Good thought, but since that is a whole other story on its own, i prefer to leave it as a last resort. Many thanks for the answer though!
Edit: As we found out, the phone has problem with the images as well. It seems that the phone won't write the image to the SD properly, as blank spaces appear horizontally throughout the whole image . The conclusion i can form is, that the phone has problems writing files to the SD card. Today i am going to find if the issue is software or harware related.
Hello it's Darkson's girlfriend again. Today I and Darkson were sent to a technician, because none of the solutions worked at all... The technician swapped SD's with one of his and put all folders I had in the pc (music, photos), in a folder called DCIM. Everything till now, is going well. Although, Darkson tells me that DCIM is the Camera Images folder, so the rest of the folders must be moved to the root directory of the card. Should I move them outside the DCIM folder and rename them according to the content (Image, Music etc.) or this will make the problem reappear?
PS: The SD that the phone was having problems with works fine with my tablet and other mobile phones

You should just move them to the root of the SD card. It should solve the problem. Or you could just backup the contents in the SD card and reformat the SD card. Then move the folders in the DCIM to the root of the SD card.

I agree with you, but the strange thing is that the phone is working normally since the technician set up the above configuration. Is there any possibility, that moving the folders on the root directory will make the issue resurface?
When I asked the technician why he pasted all the folders into DCIM and not just on the root directory, he replied that he is doing it in order to stress the phone's proccesor and SD reader and therefore test its reading speed and stability. Basically i find this to be nonsense, but i would certainly like to have your opinion about it. (Darkson)
PS: My girlfriend forgot to mention that the repairman returned the phone to us with HIS SD inside, providing it as "a gift" for what we have been through.
PS#2: Formatting the card won't create all of the necessary folders, only Music, Playlist and the two capability files.

the technician is right, he is trying to see if there is anything wrong with reading/writing to SD card. DCIM gets read much more then rest of the card. Don't declare guy stupid just becouse you don't get what he is trying to do.
If you using an old firmware, that will be the culprit. I also experience that when I was on 1.36... But upon flashing 2.17 it is gone... Pictures have those crazy color lines on my pictures when it was saved in SD card... The same with the song mixup

That's why i asked your opinion about it, as you probably know more stuff than me when it comes to this. Learning new things is never bad after all

The firmware was updated to the latest version available, and still the issue occured. I think that the phone is very picky when it comes to SD cards and works only with certain brands and classes
Flashing a fresh firmware will fix your problem.. If not claim for device chanfe its sd bay problem( hardware)
