This isn't smartphone question, but many people here seem to be very smart and I'm hoping that someone can help. Here's my situation: A coworker has a pending legal matter with a ex-significant other. Part of the evidence includes text messages that were sent to her. However, her old phone has since "broken." The only key that works is the red button. It powers on, powers off, but will do nothing else.
This is a Nokia phone, I'm not sure the model number but relatively recent. My question: Where are the text messages stored? I pulled the SD card and there's nothing on it. I can plug in the phone to a USB port on my computer, but all the folders that I can access via that method are just songs or vids she loaded. Are the messages stored on the SIM? Would putting the sim into a new phone allow us to access those messages? Or is this something that she needs to subpoena the service provider to get? I'm very un-knowledgeable on this to any help you can give would be appreciated.
Again, sorry to ask an off topic question, but I do hope someone can help.
text messages are usually stored either on the phone's internal chip (default) or the sim card. The best way in my opinion is somehow "remotely control" the phone (my mobiler has a similar function for windows mobile), or swap the hardware of an identical phone so you can get the phone working (dangerous)

Hi guys, im fairly new to the WM scene, but have finally customized my Xperia X1 to be just how I want it.
This brings me to this question about security.
At the moment what worries me, is if I lose my phone or someone steals it. They would have access to all my information, my contacts, my software, my emails, passwords and other such personal information that I would rather not give out. Obviously the safest solution would be to leave it in the house, but that's something none of us want to do!
Now I was thinking about encrypting the Internal memory and the memory card so that the files could not be hacked or looked at by prying eyes when connected to a computer for instance. But I couldn't seem to find any software which would do such a thing. I currently use TrueCrypt on my PC which stops nearly everything.
What I really want to do is the following:
1. Password the device.
2. Encrypt it, so that the files cannot be taken off or read.
3. Automatic password lock after 1 minute.
4. Stop files being accessed through a PC (by others of course but not myself).
5. Any other methods people could access the phone with a computer, flashing and such tools to get into them.
I know the memory card has encryption to stop anything other than the device reading the card. But this doesn't work on mine for some reason as I can plonk the card in a reader and get access to all my files in various computers I have tried.
I realize it will never be truly secure but let's be honest. The average thief wouldn't exactly know how to hack into a phone and access it's files.
Now im not fussed if say for instance it was stolen, the thief flashed the phone and used it for themselves. At the end of the day, they've got the phone, wether they are using it or not isn't going to make a difference, but making sure they can't access the files is a top priority.
One of the main programs I worry about is these "Wallet" programs that you can get. They are very handy for storing all your card details and such on, but are they truly safe? That is what I wonder.
Any replies would be really appreciated as I always worry about losing my phone at the moment due to it having no protection!
Are there any suggestions anyone can make to me?

My gmail accoount is still in use and I have my IMEI number.
Is there a way to find out the phone number of that SIM card that uses my phone, so I can text this someone or try to call it?
have some data on the phone which is very important for my work, can't afford of losing it.
Please help me if there is a way, gmail daschbord also does't show that new number in use.

Samsung dive enables you to send a message for the person carrying the phone if you already signed in with it on your phone!

This happened to me and many phones got stollen from me but samsung dive only works on samsung phones you can still contact your carrier and i think you can locate it using its unique serial number. Good luck finding your phone!
Talk to your carrier, and if they can't track phone through IMEI, have them blacklist the IMEI on that phone so it will be useless. That's about all that you can do..

As a matter of fact, not even your provider will help much if it's not to save someones life. File a case with the police, get a new phone and install AVAST first (it tells you the number of the new SIM once it's changed).
If your gmail account is still in use, try sending YOURSELF a message with friendly words to the thief of your phone and offer him money. In a perfect scenario, your phone will notify the guy of an incoming E-Mail and he is curious enough to read it. If you are clever, you include a read receipt within that mail, which might reveal the location of the thief. I'm sure there are also other services online, which offer traceable E-Mails. In a perfect world, this guy is at home and opens it there.
Once he agrees to hand over your phone (just offer enough money), call police and tell them when and where the f*cker will give you the phone to pwn him for even changing the SIM. Mentally prepare that all your data got deleted. Good luck mate, don't give up. Never!

I am looking for an app which enables me to read and send sms messages of an android device from another android device via bluetooth or what ever wireless connection there is.
for example:
I have 2 android devices: device A and device B. suppose, device B is located somewhere near me but i cant get a hold of it. then device B receives an sms message. i want to be notified of the receipt on device A and read the message. I also want to be able to send messages using device A. that can also be the case the other way around: send and read messages on device A using device B.
i tried searching google for that but it seems like im using the wrong keyword for that, and google isnt smart enough to look for something that almost fits my description.
if anyone knows any app that could perform this, please tell me.
if it does not exist yet, maybe this is a good idea for an app.
I have a tablet and a phone. i cant easily access my tablet to read messages while on the road since it is inside my backpack, and my phone is just inside my pocket. and since my phone number and my tablet number is for private and business purposes, respectively. I dont want to get a dual-sim, or multiple-sim devices for that matter, as there is no available galaxy note that sports that feature.

access the device storage (whether internal or external)?
access call logs etc. and contacts? I guess they'd be able to view texts via the phone company?
disable the phone remotely so that it doesn't turn on?

Depends on the MDM the IT department is using. I use Google Admin Console. I can remotely wipe and lock my company-owned Android devices. GAC has started playing nicely with Apple devices, so I can do the same to iOS device we own, too. Seeing files, though? Yeah, if they're using some beefy MDM and it has full device permissions, anything goes if it's set up that way. But then again, if it's a company-owned device, there's no expectation of privacy, and all data on the device is the company's.

I'm not sure if it's related, but my old company phone has recently decided not to turn on. I thought it might be something that was controlled by previous employer. Data hasn't been switched on, so can they actually disable the phone via the sim?
As I said, the phone did not want to switch on, so I decided to charge it for some time. Sometimes, it would power on the splash screen, but just does not go any further. It doesn't boot but just sits on the splash screen for over an hour. I was thinking of buying a replacement battery, but it seems it might not have any effect?
Perhaps it's something to do with the phone's IC on its way out?
I used to work for a major phone carrier as a store manager. And if we wanted our work email on our personal devices we had to grant it admin rights on our device and agree to a long list of things that no one read. I however read it and it literally said if they ever thought my device was comprised they'd remote wipe it without even telling me.
I straight up did not have my work email on my device and I was always taking flack from supervisors that I didn't respond to their emails unless I was in my office. And I always told them why and finally one day I received an email saying that as of X date (like a week later) that no employee could have their work email on a personal device.
I laughed my ass off at everyone who complained about it and asked several bosses what happened... Apparently some really high up dude had his phone get wiped and he lost a ton of pictures of his kids that weren't in the cloud and he raged at IT about it and they changed email permissions

Ok, so I have someone's Kyocera Kona S2151 flip phone. Now when I plug it into my pc in device manager there shows two "modems" and a serial port without a driver. Even after installing the specific driver for this phone from the Kyocera website it still says there is no driver. I tried to manually select the driver from the folder that was created during the install, not a single one of the 6 worked. Now all of this might even be a moot point as I don't even know if this device will allow me to pull the pictures off of it using a USB cable attached to a pc and everything on the web says I should be able to but there's also a Kona android smart version. I also can't find anything that says I can't either lol. Now I would Bluetooth but there are no options for sending photos via Bluetooth and whats worse is the antennae for the cell service is going out so it won't stay connected to the tower (I assume its the antennae, I'm not gonna try and fix something this old, also its sprint which just got absorbed by Tmobile which could also be the issue bc its pre sim card).
So, in summary, I am trying to retrieve the photos. You can't Bluetooth them, there's no SD card slot, I can't text or email them due to lack of wifi and cell service issues, Which leads to the only option left, PC USB transfer but I can't get that working either due to what I am hoping is simply driver issues. If I need to use an older Operating system that's fine I have another pc here I can mess with to my heart's desire.
I know this isn't android, rooting, modding, custom os, related but this forum is home to some of the smartest people, it's where I come to get all my instructions and files for phones. if anyone could help I'm hoping it's the community here.

Update, I installed xp on an older pc I had sitting around. ALL drivers worked fine BUT it appears the only functionality this phone would have for a pc is to act as a modem. There doesn't seem to be ANY functionality in the way of file browsing or retrieving media. Furthermore, this specific phone lacks media sharing over any other connection aside from the mobile network. So if anyone has one of these old phones and it no longer has service/can no longer connect to towers your only option is going to be a data retrieval company.
Bummer, some older phones are very limited when it comes to retrieval. cheers
