RadioTime - Droid Incredible Themes and Apps

So I decided to give RadioTime a whirl. It's such a great concept. Plus I spend about 4 hours a day in the car, and have 3g coverage for the entire drive, so I wanted to give this a shot to change things up a bit from Last.fm and Subsonic.
I can't get the damn thing to stop skipping though. It skips like crazy. I know it's not a coverage area issue because I'm streaming 256 kbps mp3s from my home computer with Subsonic with no issues.
Has anyone else run into this? Is there a fix or an alternative application? I'm running SkyRaider 2.0 at the moment if it matters.

there is an option to choose a different stream. when mine starts to skip i generally choose a little bit lower quality stream and it seems to solve the problem.

G1 External Hard Drive?

I'm considering purchasing a head unit for my truck that has stereo bluetooth built in.
I know that I could purchase a 16GB SD card to store my music on, but I want to carry much more than 16GB of music. I am wondering if there is any coders out there that agree with me and think this would be a cool idea.
I am not a coder, although I am an IT technician so I do have working knowledge of these things, but have no knowledge of how to implement something like this..
What I would like to do is have
1) A G1 running (preferably) Cyanogen's latest Rom
2) An external Hard Drive that can be powered through USB
3) An adapter that allows you to charge your G1 and connect another USB device
So Coders, Developers and the such, is it possible to write a script, and/or application that would allow the G1 to mount an external Hard Drive AND power it through USB to access a large library of music to play through stereo bluetooth?

if i remember correctly, no, because google hasnt released those api's yet (we cant hook any device up to the g1 and control/use it, except for headsets)
but you can use imeem to host all your music online and just login to imeem when driving
nope.....for one very good reason....it isnt "wired" that way
and would kill the battery in all of 30 minutes lol
how much music do u really need?
iv seen reports of 32gb cards working...and u can just change card wen u need to

Ya that or I wish Orb would make an app for Android, and T-mobile would bring 3G to South Carolina... I'm sure us backwoods South Carolina rednecks are last on their list though....
use gmote, you can stream music and video to your phone, and it works over 3g!
check it out!
there was another post a while back similar...cant find it....from what i read there i got the impression it cant be done with the g1 coz of some screwed up way of doing things
anyway....the g1 wouldnt be able to output suitable voltage and current (normally 5v 500mA for external drives)(standard usb values)
the battery doesnt even go up to 5v so....meh

if he is using apps2sd that isnt a good option, and since he mentioned cyanogen, chances are he is
and yeah, 16gb of music to listen to while driving is alot of music imo, and 32gb is just crazy
but to each there own, i think your going to have to either use online radio or just swap out music every time you get home to shuffle it up, but even that takes time due to the transfer speed limit from computer to g1
I have an VPS that I run and host files off of. I also operate a ShoutCast Radio server from it. If you can get an ShoutCast Player for Android, just buy a VPS, install the ShoutCast Server files, add your music, configure an auto-dj script, and then run the server. There you have a server running 24/7 that you can add/delete music from and play it straight to your phone. All for the cost of around $25? IF THAT!

Well I was thinking that the adapter would transfer data through to and from the G1 and also accept external power from the cigarette lighter..
I know all of this is a long shot, but I like hacking, g1, and car audio so... what the heck it was worth a shot...

There's Andorb. While not released by Orb, it works pretty well for streaming music and pics through the Orb service.
Do you really need your entire library of music in your truck? Are you planning on driving for more than 200 hours straight and you just can't stand to listen to the same song more than once
Seriously though. 32GB should be more than enough space. Keep the external hard drive at home and load up the 32GB you feel like listening to that MONTH every morning before you leave.
Seriously i can't stand people saying i need 1XX gigs of music... honestly most people can get away with having 5 gigs they just to lazy is the thing IMO. Your 16 gig is enough or are you travel cross the US n wont be seen listening to the same song once ever couple of hours?

I live in Greenville.... No 3G
the guy had hacked it together....using a standard size card and a thrown together adapter....it looked a bit dodgey....and delicate
if i stumble across it again il let u know...i found it by pure accident a while back
anyway - micro sdhc 32gb cards are due out in time for xmas
and the sdhc standard clearly dictates that any sdhc device will work with all cards from 1MB-32GB
cant wait for 64GB SDXC (specs say they will be capable of 64GB-2TB) never gonna use all that BUT I WANT IN SOOOO BAD
as for the music debate - i have 60GB of music.... although there is only about 5GB worth i actually listen to regularly...its good to have the extra stuff for wen i fancy a change
16gb of music. or even 5gb of music can't be listened to within a day...

[Q] Need help bluetooth tether Nook Color to Captivate

I have a Nook Color running cm7.2 and a Captivate running GR-11 and want to use bluetooth tethering. What apps work best for this and what steps do I need to take? I've tried wireless tether, but it has failed to connect to the nook. I was able to pair them, but not connect.
Anybody have any suggestions?

I've got both as well and I think the issue is the bluetooth module on the Nook Color. The broadcast on it is so weak that it can barely hold on to signals. I connected my NC to a pair of bluetooth headphones which I laid right next to it and it couldn't even hold that connection.

Yep, look at the gps threads on nc. They are sticking the gps units right on the back of it. The range is only a foot or two. Use mobile ap or android tether. That'd what I use.

I'm on phiremod's latest CM7 and got BT working with BT headphones. What I found was that if you hold the Nook in portrait orientation, you have to practically press the Nook to your nose to keep the connection, BUT, if you rotate the Nook to landscape mode, and keep the line of sight between the earpiece with the receiver in it and the Nook, (I tiled the Nook to the left), then I could put the nook 3 feet away, at least!!! I even laid it down on the bed a few feet away - but putting it in landscape mode, first.
Obviously, there's some going on with the accelerometer. I'm OK with this - music plays great; no skips, no issues. BUT, playing mp4 videos is another story. The clip might start, but then starts acting up. If I disconnect BT, then it plays fine. Big bummer, as this is the only thing that will make me want to get a "real" tablet, like the Samsung 10.1" one coming out in June. If it was movies that worked and music didn't, I'd be cool with that, as I have my music on my phone. But one of the main reasons for me to have a tablet is for watching movies on the plane.
That's interesting. Have you posted this in the nc area? The devs might want to know about that. Might be able to work that out. Sounds like something going on in kernal that could be changed. That would explain why gps and wiimote need to be so close. Used in landscape they are.

[Q] Bluetooth Audio Quality Issues Fix?

Hey guys,
I've just got droid charge last week and I like everything about it (only after rooting and installing Gummycharged), but there is one huge problem for me. Well, it might be 2, but one of them is slightly better with Gummycharged and voodoo lagfix.
Here's the issue - I love listening to music in my car through bluetooth and until recently I've been using my Ipod touch 4g and it has been working flawlessly and music quality was great. Now, once I got the Droid Charge, I've noticed 2 things - every minute or 2 the songs would skip (interrupt), and the sound quality was pretty terrible (mainly with the high end - sounded like tweeters were being overloaded).
Rooting the phone helped with skipping - it now happens once in 10 minutes or so, so that's acceptable, however the sound quality is still pretty horrible. I've looked around on these forums and people had similar issues with quality with their stock phones and most people suggest CyanogenMod. I'm not all that familiar with what different ROMs are available for Charge, but as far as I can tell this one isn't. Does anyone know if there is way to fix/configure the quality of bluetooth transmission on this phone? Is there any mod I can install? Anyone having similar issues?
Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks, but the problem is more fundamental, I suppose. Looks like HTC and Samsung use some custom bluetooth code in their ROMs. Apparently it limits the bitpool value at 32, which makes the audio quality terrible over bluetooth. Surprisingly, everyone knows what the problem is but so far the only reported solution is the cyanogenmod.
Here's more about it:

Wow, nasty and long standing! Glad I didn't buy one of those headsets like I was going to. *sigh*
Hey guys,
I'm running GummyCharged 1.85 w/ the voodoo kernel (pbj) and also getting skips over bluetooth to my car stereo. It's seriously distracting and annoying. My Droid 2 worked flawlessly in this respect, but it seems like any time the Charge does any "thinking" it makes the BT audio skip.
Any hope of a fix for this?
My Charge is stock and I haven't had a chance to try the bluetooth audio streaming yet, but when I plug my phone into my car to listen to music through the aux jack it does the same thing, about once every song it skips. Seems odd. I'll try bluetooth today on my way to school and see what happens. You'd think with Bluetooth 3.0 on board the signal would be strong enough to stream decent quality music...
I can confirm this issue is there and in your face a lot. I tried it on the way to school (about a 40 minute ride), it skipped once or twice every few minutes, no big deal. The quality was acceptable for wireless transfer, nothing to write home about. Not a lot of low end, and just a hint of static and slightly over-boosted highs. However I tried it again on the way home once I realized I had forgotten my aux cable, and it skipped so often I just switched to FM. It was so annoying. I can confirm your suspicions that it seems to happen when the phone is trying to do something. Switching towers, background apps, turning on data and checking traffic with Google Maps really freaked it out, but it was fine once I was done. Kinda sucks for those who wish to use the feature regularly.
Update?
I have a droid charge, and the bluetooth streaming quality really sucks, like the OP pointed out, highs are really bad.
Tried with my friends iphone and it worked flawlessly.
CyanogenMod is still unavailable for the droid charge as far as I can tell.
Is there any other fix that anyone has found that will fix the bluetooth sound quality when streaming music?
Any help or places to look is appreciated.

iPhone4 owner looking to make the switch to the Infuse but I need your input first...

Hey guys, I currently have an iPhone 4 and thought about switching but I wasn't sure about the following for the Infuse 4g:
1. Netflix streaming... I have heard that the modified Netflix apks don't support the Infuse 4g. Will Infuse 4g owners will ever get this?
2. Overheating... I have seen several threads where people are saying their phone overheats and the phone automatically shuts the brightness down to zero. This seems like it would be pretty problematic if your out in the sun and your phone shuts the brightness down to zero and you cant see due to the reflection. Is overheating a problem for everyone?
3. Battery life... How good is the battery life? I am an extreme user constantly surfing online or playing netflix so I need a phone that can handle my extreme usage with great battery life. I have heard good things about the Infused 1.50 rom as well and not sure if this rom allows the Infuse 4g to have as good of battery life as the iPhone4.
4. Wiimote... Is there any chance of getting a bluetooth wiimote controller to work so that I can play the game emulators on the Infuse? I know that samsung usually uses a screwed up bluetooth stack so if there is any way to get this to work I would like to know. I never flashed before but I heard that CMod had this ability before so is there a particular rom out there for the Infuse that has this ability?
5. Bluetooth Keyboard Support... I like to use my phone as my all in one device. The iPhone allows you to hook up any bluetooth keyboard to it to type faster and replace your laptop. Is there a way to do this with the Infuse?
I would really like to switch to the Infuse and its 4.5 inch display (compared to iPhones 3.5 inch) but if the Infuse can't handle these things like the iPhone currently does for me then I won't be able to switch since it would be taking a step back in functionality.
Thanks for your help you guys I appreciate it
I came from an iphone 4 jailbroken, and i must say i like my infuse 4g, the only thing im waiting for is for them 2 bring netflix
I can answer a few...
Netflix will come just not sure when.
I've not had any overheating issues whatsoever l.
Battery life if good but could be better. Charging times are long though.
But the experience blows iPhone away for sure.

I'm a converted iphone guy as well. I must say I love this phone. Here is a few pros and cons in comparison to the ip4. In my oppion- I feel battery life is much better than ip4 but as stated before it takes much longet to actually charge. Youtube I feel is much better on infuse/android, using the infuse it seems videos are still very clear even on 3g, the ip4 was kind of blocky and not so clear but flawless under wifi. Craigslist and facebook are much better on ip4, I have 4 CL apps on my infuse, I only needed 1 on ip4. I could go on for a while but this reply is long enough, to he honest, after playing with my infuse for 2 weeks my ip4 soon felt like a childs toy. In order for me to switch to android there was 3 things I 100% needed, wifi tethering, youtube downloader, and the ability to download music. All of which I have plus sooo much more, switching was a no brainer for me.

I came from iPhone 4 as well and I love this phone.
And as for the overheating, that can affect any phone if out in direct sunlight long enough...including the iPhone 4.
I switch from the iPhone 3gs two years ago when the Nexus one was available with At&ts 3g band. Never looked back and I never will. As far as the Infuse it's the best 1 core android phone out now. Go for it. From what I'm hearing Netflix works only on Gingerbread.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
I also came from the 3GS, this is my second android device and the best one so far being on at&t and it's only getting better, no overheating here, great better life, best to wallplug to quicker battery charging, not sure about the wiimote but yes on the bluetooth keyboard, you can't go wrong with this as your first android phone
I recently came from the iPhone 4. Up until this point, I have had all Apple's phones. The battery life of the infuse is good. It lasts all day with me. However, it is nowhere in the same league as the iPhone 4's battery. On a moderate-usage day, on the ip4 I would've had ~80% remaining, with the infuse I would have ~35-40% remaining.
That being said, this phone is so much better than the ip4, I don't care. It really is great.
I switched from iphone4 and is the best thing ive done everything is better on the infuse.especially downloading music and making ringtones without a computer.and a bigger brighter screen
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
I love my Infuse! I can't speak for iPhone as I've been a WM and Andriod user, but the battery is a big reason I chose this phone. I go a full day and don't need to bring a charger (20 min or so calls, 30 texts, LOTS of data streaming music and video).
The other selling point is this beautiful screen. It is brilliant under all lights, just choose your screen protector wisely as it can ruin the quality and some are near impossible to read in the sun.
Finally, Android is awesome. I still haven't found a limit to what it will do and I can't wait for 2.3 support.

1. wait for gingerbread update, or cm7/cm8
2. heat issues seem to lessen over time, not sure why. it also seems to have more to do with the wifi and/or cell radios than anything else. could have issues with tethering or streaming h.264 .mkv files while charging but the iphone cant do that in the first place, so you decide if it is relevant
3. battery life. well you wont be dissapointed, especially with a custom rom or if you mind the active syncs email push, wifi status in non wifi areas and screen brightness. the battery takes forever to charge at first and may produce some heat but it improves over time. my iphone 3g and my captivate were both the same so it is not unusual.
4. wait for cm7/cm8 the samsung bluetooth stack is incompatable and needs to be changed but it may be difficult to work the bugs out with a samsung rom if it gets changed, but we have a pretty talented group of devs so who knows.
5. i often use a portable bt keyboard with a touchpad for mouse controls on mine. i cant give you a list of compatable devices but many of the small portable devices work.
I came from an iPhone 4 as well. No regrets as of yet!

did sling box put out an app? so they have a server that transcodes the feeds? or do you need a sling box device at home using up all your upload bandwith (many internet providers only give about 5%-10% uplink bandwidth vs downlink, mine is no better than my 3g upload speed without hspa)
I haven't kept up on slingbox as I thought there devices were overpriced. I tried to setup a media server with a transcoder application and tv tuner card to do this type of thing but my ip is just too slow, hosting anything is useless. I'm just trying to figure out what you mean and if it is a service that costs money.
The slingbox app works with your box at home. I picked up the older model ~6 months ago for ~$100. Works great on the android app. I have it hooked up to a tivo that I can watch netflix on. Obv not HD quality or anything, but works well enough. Sling has some fancy stuff to encode on the fly very quickly, so I think their hardware is worth it. So not a service, but up front costs of slingbox and a box with rca (or HDMI if you have the right slingbox) out that can stream netflix.

cool. it can be done with an old pc and media portal with the ipimp plugin, my biggest prob is upload bandwidth, not sure the comercial device would be that great either in my case. stupid time warner! one day when i have fios or optimum online i will do one from scratch with a low power platform like an atom or something. im sure the sling box is very nice but pc based devices are always expandable, i can always add features and change the interface as i go.

Slingplayer issue!

Ok ive had to purchase this app THREE times so I have some experience with it (iPhone,iPad,and Android). My issue is..constant freezing, no matter what channel (HD and regular) or what settings (Standard or High quality). I have more then enough dl speeds etc for it to work flawlessly, but on 3G,LTE and WiFi, it freezes within 20 seconds of starting up. I have reconfigured my router for manual setup according to the video guide again but it still wont play in a usable manner unless I like looking at the static picture with voices in the background lol.
Anyone else use this app that has it running fluidly?
When I had my Thunderbolt, it didn't matter what I was using (3G,LTE, Wifi), the picture would always stutter about and freeze up for a good while, maybe sometimes even up to two minutes when I started using it.. After those initial stutters and freeze ups, though, it would always play without a hitch..
I know it doesn't really help, but just my experience with it.
ugh yeah mines consistant. Even over WiFi it freezes so its frustrating
Hmm, the only things I can really think of would be:
New ethernet cord between the router and the slingbox?
New cable cord (Probably not, but hey it could work)
orrrr.....
maybe the cords from the slingbox to the cable/dish receiver are bad?
I had the issue too and I found the problem was in the slingbox itself. A capacitor had gone bad and I had to swap it out. Look for a bulging capacitor. Here is a good guide:
