[Q] Looking for app for plus code dialing for international phone numbers - General Questions and Answers

I have an HTC Imagio (CDMA + GSM) running Energy ROM (Sense 2.5 Cookie Home Tab 1.8.5). This does not have the assisted dialer which is available in the stock ROM via Send --> Menu --> Options.
I store all phone numbers using the plus code (+1 for USA, +44 for UK, etc.) since I call numbers in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Using the Assisted Dialing, I should be able to select the country I am currently in and it should replace the '+' with the correct sequence of digits depending on whether it is a local or international call. Is there another dialing app available which I can use to specify which country I am in so that the numbers are dialed correctly?
I am aware of the registry hack mentioned in a "HTC Titan: Mogul, XV6800" --> "Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development" forum thread (unable to post link) to dial from the U.S. but I would like to be able to have the phone dial local and international numbers correctly when I am traveling to other countries too. I plan to use a local SIM card when I need to travel to Europe and Asia for extended durations.
I have posted the same question in the thread mentioned in the previous paragraph but figure it would be more appropriate to post here.
Thanks!

Which HTC Hermes in Japan?

Hello, I am going to be in Tokyo for the next few months for work. I use an HTC Hermes here in the UK. I am interested in having the office in Tokyo get me one to use whenever I am there. Questions:
1) Is the Softbank X01HT the model to go for? What advantages does this give over Docomo? Is there an unlimited data tariff? If not, what tariff should I go for if I want to use the phone for email and internet?
2) I use IMAP mail. I have tried but been disappointed with FlexMail 2007 as an email client, particularly since it does not support Asian characters. What other email clients (other than the WM5 standard which does not support multiple IMAP email addresses) are available with Asian language capability?
3) I am thinking the HTC Hermes will be best because it will be easy for me to configure since I already have one in the UK. Are there any other leading edge WM devices available that I should also consider?

Wassup, I used to live in Tokyo and theres never really been a "unlimited" data plan. They are pretty expensive compared to like Sprint but they offer a variety of different plans to match your usage. The best thing is to talk to the carrier rep directly. Both Docomo and Softbank are the same network. GSM+WCDMA. As far as english apps go they will work as-is. Its japanese appz that won't work on english phones. (kanji and phoenetic characters use a double size font) Roman characters only need half the space so it works great. The only thing is that you won't be able to change the system to english. Hmmm, I think. I may be wrong on that one. hehe.
You might actually wanna check out the Willcom Zero3. That phone is sweet! Although it is a PHS network. Not compatible with anything outside Japan.

Canadian Kaiser - Getting It going and a new look

I just obtained a new AT&T Tilt (8925) (HTC Kaiser) and I want to use it on the Rogers wireless system in Canada. I can use the phone and text but cannot access the internet and MMS. I spent an hour on with the Rogers Techs and still couldn't get it going. Does anyone have an idea as to the settings I need for the internet and MMS? Also this phone has the AT&T "today" page. How can I change it to reflect the "today" page that I have seen on the HTC "Touch" as I like the big clock and weather aspects.

not sure how things have changed ( or not ) ... but I'd previously used this fine with my HTC S621 ... now I'm a TyTN II owner but swear against a data plan in Canada ... now that rogers also announced they will carry the "iPuke" ... owners will be charge through the roof to really benefit the multimedia plan needed to enjoy it !
if this work or not for you, update the result so that someone else can benefit, will ya ?

I have the AT&T tilt and found that the proxy on the phone is the problem. It is a hidden proxy and you will not see one set in the network options. To turn it off there are 2 proxy files in a folder in the programs menu. One to enable and one to disable. You must use the one taged "ProxyDisable".
Another way is to delete all the network settings and run an updated Connection Wizard file. I tried to attached the one I'm using but the upload keeps failing. The one I use will see the network header from your SIM card and set up all the proper settings for you. I have downloaded several and none seemed to have Canada in the list. The one I tried to attach will prompt if you want to setup on Rogers right away! Surf until your heart's content
Google for "HTCConnectionSetup 1_0_30726_1.cab" and run it directly from your phone.
As for the Kaiser default look you are refering to (also seen on the Touch), you can flash your phone with a cooked rom or the official HTC Kaiser rom. The Tilt is actualy a TyTN II (codename: Kaiser). The only difference with the Tilt is the missing front facing camera and the AT&T boot intro and software. I did not like seeing the AT&T logo on startup as I'm on Rogers so I flashed it with the original Kaiser rom. I have tried many other but currently have Dutty's latest rom and it works well and is feature packed. Another way is to unzip and run the HTC Home file (I could attach the file this time!) from your phone to get the Weather and clock.
I perfer the cooked rom method as they can be much faster and have all the "bloatwere" and trial software removed. Many of them have tools and apps that are very usefull. Check out the rest of the posts in this forum and you will find everything you need to know on flashing your rom, even how to flash back if you need to get the phone serviced.
they just jumped in & asked for help ... then we provided possible solutions for a small consideration ( feedback of what works & not so others could benefit ..etc ) ... and they can't even return the favour !!!

My pet peeves:
1. People who do not use the search feature or Google
2. People who do not read the thread they posted to
3. Answering questions that have already been answered by another person asking the same question in the same forum
ur not the only one with those peeves...i'm sure a lot of us have them..especially ones that are really active and helpful

Check which provider belongs 2 the number

Hey there...
today i had the idea to improve my adress book.. but dunno how...
since i got a tmobile germany and landline flatrate..i want to know if the number i'm contacting is for free or need to pay..
there is a possibility to call an number and enter the number you want 2 check and get the network.. but this kind of sucks big times... is there some kind of webservice or programm which can support my intension? and for example add a network prefix to the adressbooks name?
thx in advance
try this.

This is actually not what i am looking for... see for example there is my sisters contact in the adress book ... but how do i know if the number i am calling is for free because of my tmobile flatrate? nowadays you can take your number with you when changing the provider.. some years ago you where at least able to get the provider by the prefix of the mobile number..
now i want something what can tell me the provider to the number

It also doesn't actually work. It goes back to some outdated database before Local Number Portability worked. I put in my cell number, which used to be my landline number, and lo and behold, it still thinks it's owned by a local PacBell CO.
Well then in reality there truly is no way to know with 100% accuracy which provider someone is with. This at least provides some level of accuracy whether outdated or not. For instance, mine shows up as correct. Should I port my number tomorrow, it would be incorrect though. Don't think there is any other way available for regular consumer based searches.
but for example i can send a message with the number to some special tmobile number and it charges me with 19cent and sends the provider back.. infos in german

i can also call a number for free and type in the phone number and it tells me the provider.. but this kind of sucks for all my addressbook entries

Yeah, but the only way to achieve what you're looking for is a direct and almost permanent connection to the database hosted by T-Mobile (
Zentrale Master Routing Datenbank (zMRDB)) in which the number and the provider to which it belongs is stored.
And since the access to this database is not free (not to say pretty expensive) you won't find any solution to this.
CU,
Cactus World
but it says i can use wap for it.. so somehow there must be an service to use, which provides the necessary infomation
MNP / zMRDB / provider finder

Hi adrian,
have you tried this: http://www.mobilfunknetz-finder.de
Would be nice to have something like ProviderFinder (works on iPhone only) for WM or Android.

[Q] Anyone has Bell Canada MobileOperator Reg Value?

HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\MobileOperator
Thanks ahead of time,
Pat
Uhm, I tried but in system it says I can't access itor info unavail. I'm not sure why , I got my HTC hd7 from bell, I am sure i unlocked it from carrier, I also have it developer unlocked. I've got registry editor on it, touchxperience, and loads of other apps. I've been able to anything else I've wantebutnot access the one folder.
Sent from my T9295 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
@nalgrim:
There is an easy solution for your problem.
just go into the last folder you can access and create a new one inside it with the next name in the string.
afterwards you have access to the folder which has been there before but just not visible.
I hope that helps you so that you can help bizpat72, because I can't find the list with carrier IDs anymore (there should actually be one somewhere within the forum)
I remembered the post about NoDo update with the trick of unbranding phone had the list. Rafael Rivera has that list, so you might contact him in this forum or outside. Or you can try to guess the string, typically it contain 5 letter as AAA-BB, which AAA stands for the abbreviation of the operator and BB stands for the operator's country. My guess is BEL-CA.
here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12475935&postcount=151
ROG-CA
or
LUS-CA
?? those are the only two CA on the list

[Q] CM7&Brazil:Unable to identify many numbers stored on phonebook? Sense works fine.

[Q] CM7&Brazil:Unable to identify many numbers stored on phonebook? Sense works fine.
Already asked for other reasons on Tattoo-Gingerbread thread, but I'll try here because I would like to gathering more informations with Brazilians users who are still using a Sense Rom.
The default CM7/Gingerbread dialer is horrible and it and other dialers like "Dialer One" aren't able to recognize contacts numbers stored with specific area code. I mean, I have many number stored with the operator code here in Brasil, es: 01551xxxxxx mean I'm calling with ViVo Brazil (015) a number in Porto Alegre, but the number show on the phone when incoming a call is 051xxxxxx, where 051 is the geographic area code of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul.
All the dialers I have tried doesn't manage correctly those numbers but official Sense dialer does without modify format.
I can't change the numbers because I travel a lot trough Brazilian states, and out of the state the area code is mandatory, so I need to back to a Sense rom. Don't know if it's a issue with cm7 only, because it's the first time I use a "No-Sense" rom on Tattoo (wife's phone). I tried also with my Htc legend (before I used a Froyo stock rom) with the same results.
Any feedback from Brazilian user?
Thanks.
