Installing desire apps on samsung galaxy? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi,
I have an HTC desire and a samsung galaxy. I found that there are many applications in the desire that are not available on the Galaxy i9000 like the calendar , the clock widget, the people widgit and there are no arabic characters in stalled for the browser. Can someone please tell me how to install those manually without having to flash an entire custom ROM? I already rooted the device and I have android SDK
Thank you,

same question?
how can we get the apk files (if any) from one rom to another

Use adb pull command to extract .apk files from a Rom ur using, or from an ruu .exe file you need to Google how to extract update.zip from it, then look in system/app or data/app in update.zip.
If you find apks with corresponding .odex or .dex (cant remember which it is), you will also have to research odexing/deodexing.

One more thing... I think the HTC stuff might also need specific other stuff (libraries... whatever the hell they are)... worth a try though, have a play.

Thank you for posting. Are the weather widget and such also included? It would be great being able to use them on an alternate launcher

Don't tell me this doesn't have the reader app either, wtf.
I see EReader, does that not work? Because I don't have my Sensation yet, I can't test.
Ereader doesn't install! Sucks! Can't beleive they would have the widget(shelf) but no ereader app
I am pretty new to HTC, I just moved over from the Vibrant. Do these app require the phone to be rooted before it can be installed or just installing the apk will work. I know with the Vibrant, you have to copy the files to the system directory. But in order to get there, I needed to root my phone. Is this the same thing?

Unless they've been altered they will require root. They may also have dependencies that don't exist on our altered systems. I took all the apps out of the posted stock roms on the dev board over the weekend. The only one that would install was sound recorder but that was installed via htc sync and it wouldn't work.
So far the only app I know will work is the car panel but I'm not sure where that even came from since I heard it was left out of the euro s4g too.

[Q] Can we replace the vanilla Gingerbread MMS.apk with the HTC one?

EDIT: I realize that I messed up the title. I meant to write if we could replace the current HTC messaging app with the vanilla one.
Title says it all. I've gotten used to HTC's way of things but I'd really, really prefer the vanilla experience. Since we don't have S-OFF or custom AOSP roms yet, can we at least replace the MMS.apk on our Sensations with the vanilla one?
Bump. Does anyone have a clue? It's apparently been done on, for example, the G2. I'd really rather have stock messaging app.

Thanks for the answer. I guess this is another reason to anticipate S-OFF!
Right.....
Or how about you just install it with a file manager. Then disable the notifications from htc messagin app

I followed these steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11050253&postcount=2 and used the Mms.apk provided there, which should be the 2.3 vanilla messaging app.
Everything went fine when copying over to the phone, etc., but when trying to actually open the app on my phone it force closes from the start. It does show the vanilla mms.apk icon though, the green text bubble with the smiley. If I could get this to stop force closing and actually open/work, I'd be happy!
I'll get you a link to one.

It's not gonna work. U can't "install" it. U have to put it in system
Yeah you have to copy it to your system apps with a file explorer...

If you have Root Explorer or any other explorer, then try to copy and paste it to /system/app/ and reboot the phone. Hope that helps.

Won't work ppl. We don't have perm yet. I don't think it would work even then if I remember correctly
It should work as we have temp root which last till the reboot. And if not then you cant just use adb to either install or push. There should be ways around this. :/

[Q] ROMS that does not remove bloat ware?

I'm looking for a great ROM that doesn't remove bloatware. Mainly I want the games that came on the phone, plus TeleNav. I like, TeleNav better than Google's. Does anyone have the link to the ROMs that didnt remove all bloatware?

It really doesnt matter which rom you choose. If it doesnt have what you are looking for you can just add in what you want from the original apk's that are posted here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051812
Just look for a rooted Stock ROM.
Just extract the apks and install them on whatever rom you want.

Extracting and installing the APK's I want sounds perfect. The problem is I'm a Noob. I've used ROMs a lot on my old Vibrant and Nexus 1. But I dont have a clue how to extract a APK from my phone.
Download them from the market

picasa plugin sense 3.0

hi man, i'm flashed saga 3d rom. the stock one with root permission and some tweak by proxuser, it's all good, but i can't find the picasa plugin for the gallery. i'm sure that in previous rom i have it installed. nobody knows how install or flash this plugin in a rom with 3.0 sense?
thanks a lot and sorry for my bad english.
I also had problems getting this to install on certain custom roms, so i ended up using Picasa Tool app instead. Its a very good alternative if you can't get any joy with the plugin

Gallery extension should be available in htchub. But I also use another app for picasa pictures. Just Pictures is my "must have" choice.
Yes I'm known, but I can't find it. I tried every way to search it. By the way if any of you have got a apk file of picasa plugin I can try to install it. Thanks

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7466985/com.htc.picasa.apk this version works for me with sense 3. copy it to /data/app/ make also sure owner and permissions are like the other files there and that's it.
It seems to work, but crash. Owner? Permission? I try fix permission. Right?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
how did you install it? with the normal system installer or copied and pasted? you can try to run the fix permission script, but not sure if it catches that
Both mode.
Also with fix permission.bah.

[Q} ClockWorkMod memory

In my sd card i have this folder called clockworkmod that hold 3.30GB & im very limited in space. Do i even need that folder there? My HTC Inspire 4G is All ready rooted & the hole 10 yards?
Well, thats the folder used by rom manager and 4ext to restore your backups and such. Explore the folder with es file explorer or any other you prefer, see whats inside and get rid of what you dont want. You can also backup the contents to your pc and get rid of what you don't need on your sd card.

Thanks :good: Do you know any good 4.0 sense ROMs For HTC DesireHD ? The onei have currently Has Too Many Bugs :crying:
Desire hd? What the heck are you doing over this side?
Na, it's been a while since I flash any of those. There are a few good ones. Non sense roms have come a long way and are at a good stage right now as are the sense ones. Flash a few, install just a few basic apps, check them out and keep the one you like.

We dont have any good sense4.0 ROMs without the source code. So might have to wait until then.
