I wanted to share a little trick I figured out today for creating a shared picasa photo album in your android gallery.
Many of you may already know that you can view your albums saved in Picasa Web Albums in the Android Gallery app. I believe this was added in 2.0 or 2.1.
My friend and I wanted to try having a spot where we both can upload wallpapers we find and have it show in the Gallery in Android. Picasa does have the ability to share your albums with friends and even gives them the ability to edit, add and remove. The problem is that this new feature in Picasa does not seem to have made its way into the Gallery App in Android.
I tried a couple apps in the market and they DO allow you to view your favorite albums in Picasa, but they have some drawbacks. Namely they auto resize the images (poorly) and they download the images to your phone. The downloading defeats the purpose of this as we wanted something "cloud" based.
I thought about using my secondary google account that I have registered in the phone. No go, as there is no option to sync Picasa as my primary does.
HOW TO MAKE IT WORK!
It turns out that Google account and Gmail based Google accounts ARE different.
1- create new Gmail account. (REMEMBER GOOGLE ACCOUNTS DO NOT WORK)
2- Sign into picasa with your new Gmail account
3- Add some photos to it.
4- on your android phone go to settings>accounts and sync> add account.
5- choose Google and add your new gmail account.
6- make sure that Picasa is the only radio box checked to sync.
Thats it your done. Go check your Gallery apps and you should see your new Picasa album. Go ahead and give this account to a friend that you want to share wallpaper with and enjoy.
hi was trying to achieve the above but cudn't. Does this still stand true as of now... I am on 2.2.2. Wanted to simply upload my camera photos to another picasa album which is shared with me with upload rights.

I figured out how to get high res contact photos.
First you need ICS
Have a google plus account and google plus on your phone
Create a folder on your computer called contact photos
Load all your contact pictures into this folder
Put this entire folder onto google+ picasa web albums
Have google+ picasa web albums synced to your phone with the google+ app
You should see in gallery an album called contact photos
Manually link all of your contacts to these photos
Now all of your contacts have high res photos! Its kind of time consuming but its finally a work around the stupid google blurry pictures. I have spent countless time googling a work around. I hope this helps everyone out!
They are working on it as we speak. Thanks for the feedback and suggestion, but personally I think I'll wait until I can manager higher resolution photos directly from GMail Contacts. Saves any future hassles
i hope they fix this!!! i hate low res contact pics.
It's not exactly a fix... but I've gotten many of my contact pictures in high res through Facebook and HaxSync. As long as you have them as a Facebook friend, you can at least see their face clearly with this
The only problem is, if you have to blast your contacts storage or switch phones for any reason, the pictures that get synced back down from Google are the low res versions, then you have to manually re-do the photos all over again. It's disappointing that Google has taken so long to fix what seems like a relatively simple issue.
The other suggestion from Google was to sync your G+ contacts to your phone, but most of the people I contact via text or phone aren't actually on G+, and most of the people I have as contacts in G+ I don't communicate with outside of professional social networks.

Manually choosing pictures for each contact is not a fix!
I have put together a tiny app that syncs the photos on the phone to picasa web thus preserving its quality. Of course you need to have choosen a high resolution photo on your phone.
This being probably my first post, I can't include a link so have a search of it on Google Play and if you found it useful, post the link yourself.
Search for "Contact Photo Sync" on Google Play (remember to include the double quote marks in your search).
I've also released the code under GPLv3. To get the code, search "contactphotosync" in github.
Hope this helps some of you
That is supercool!

^ THIS
THAT APP did a good job for ICS AOSP user,
which google failed to provide.. :good:
i personaly dont like another app solution,
which syncing it with FB photo.. even though it's HD.
FB photo profile sync just sucks big time..
i simply don't want my friends picture on my contact phone is just like:
Cat, Guitar, Car or natural scenery,
or maybe his / her picture but way too far from camera..
which s/he set as profile picture on FB.
that app really good, suits my need, which i can't found for months..

Sent from Android Device
Hello everyone:
I have a few pictures that are showing up in my photo gallery on my android device that i would like to delete. They are labled as "Picasa" photos. When i select the photos i do not get an option to delete them, only to share them. I tried to download Picasa to see if maybe I could delete them from there, but all i see on picasa are photos from my computer and not these photos that are some how in the cloud.
Any ideas on how to go about deleting these?
Thanks for the help!
You need to go into Accounts and Sync, and uncheck "Sync Picasa Web Albums." That should delete them. If not you'll need to clear the cache for the gallery.
Usually in the past to stop your Google+ (Picasa photos) from showing in your gallery you unckeck Google Photos. But now I also see another sync option for Google+ Photos? What's the difference?
Ok did some more searching and it looks like Google Photos is the option to show your Google+ pics in Gallery and Google+ Photos option for uploading taken pics to Google+.
Someone correct me if I am wrong...And just for the record I hate both these options.
It certainly is confusing. I unchecked Google+ photos at one point and now I have 2 Google+ photos sync options beside each other even.
Consider setting an automation to sync all your accounts when charging the phone only. This saves you battery and from ever having to manually go through the sync options.
All - I have developed my first Android application, which is still in its infancy but fully functional.
The app is called CloudSocial, you can find it on the Play store.
I am hoping to get some constructive feedback on its ease of use, usefulness, appearance etc.
Why this app?
I have lots of photos on Dropbox, especially a lot of old ones. There was no easy way to get them onto Facebook without having to download to a device and then upload. You can obviously share a link to the Dropbox folder, but thats not the same as having them actually on Facebook for friends to like and comment on individual photos.
Similarily, my digital camera can upload directly to my NAS drive, which in turn uploads to my Dropbox account. Using CloudSocial - I can easily browse these photos and select which ones I want - and send them to a new or existing Facebook album, with whatever privacy settings I wish.
Description
Send photos from Dropbox to Facebook!
CloudSocial allows you to easily transfer photos from your Dropbox account to Facebook. You can transfer photos to existing Facebook albums, or create and send to new albums.
Features:
* Browse and Transfer photos directly from Dropbox to Facebook
* Easily create a new Facebook album for your photos, or add to an existing Facebook album
* Photos are not downloaded to your phone, so no large data transfers
* Choose Facebook privacy settings for new albums
* Photos are stored on Facebook, so your Friends can Like and Comment.
* Click on a thumbnail image to view a larger photo
Any concerns about permissions, let me know. The app cannot retrieve any passwords for either Facebook or Dropbox! No email addresses or any other user info at all is collected or stored.
The app is ad supported using admob.
Thanks for your time and feedback is appreciated (even critical).
Reserved for Q/A:
Q. Can this app see my password?
No - CloudSocial uses authentication provided by Dropbox and Facebook, so we are unable to see or store any passwords.
Q. Do I have to wait for the thumbails to be downloaded before I select and post my photos?
No - if you know what photos you want to send to your album, just select them (or select all) and hit the post button.
Q. How much data does the application use?
Only thumbnail images are downloaded from Dropbox (not full size images). These thumbnails are very small in size (around 15KB). They are also cached so they will not be downloaded again.
Q. If no images are downloaded to my phone, why does it take so long to send to Facebook?
CloudSocial has to ask Dropbox for a link to your photo. It can take around 1 second for each photo to get that link.
If you are posting a lot of photos to Facebook, it can take a bit longer to retrieve all the links. Good news is that this is done in the background so you can use your phone wihtout interruption.
Q. It takes a long time to list all my Dropbox photos?
If you have lots of images in a folder, it can take longer to list and display them all. You should consider reducing the number of images in a Dropbox folder by creating sub-folders.
Q. Why didn't all my photos transfer?
Occasionally there may be a couple of photos which don't make it. This is often due to internal server errors either on Dropbox or on Facebook. This tends to happen most when you are trying to upload a lot of photos (100+). We recommend uploading 60 or less at a time.
Tried this out and it works great, transferred a lot of photos using it (well my wife did and she found it easy to use).
I've left feedback and rated on Google Play. :good:
Sound good but I usually share my photos directly by url from Dropbox.

Thanks for the reply, I'm curious as to how you share your photos on Facebook. Do you have to share the photos individually?
If you want to share an album from Dropbox to Facebook, it only creates a link to the dropbox folder. So the user has to navigate away from Facebook in order to see the album. And they cannot comment on individual photos.
Also - you may not want everyone to see ALL the photos in an album. With my CloudSocial - you can select whatever photos you want from a dropbox folder, and send them to a new album, with whatever privacy settings you choose for that album.
Try my app and let me know if it is easier to share your photos and let me know!
Thanks

At first step you have to decide where you will be keeping your Contacts - in VCF file on your phone away from Google's hands and never sync them to Google Acc (as I do for instance), or in Google Account.
If you decide to keep them in the Phone and backup them let's say weekly into VCF file which you may store localy or in Dropbox, then install Contacts Organizer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compelson.optimizer
and move all your Contacts to your Phone, deleting them in Google afterwards.
After that install HTC GALLERY and add nice beautiful photos to each contact, after that make backup of your Contacts to phone storage as VCF file with help of HTC People App.
If you decide to store all your Contacts in Google Acc then move all of them to Google with help of Contacts Organizer.
Then log in to your Google Contacts from PC.
Move all your Contacts to Category called "Starred in Android" or something similar.
Then add thru PC high resolution photos to your contacts (it's important it's must be initially done thru PC), then sync them back to your smartphone when it's connected to internet thru Wi-Fi. Profit, Enjoy.

You can star them by making Favorite, can't you?
After that asign the high res photos thru the web interface.
