You can't do MMS over wifi, you'll have to switch to mobile data to do MMS. It should work normally, but I've found that MIUI and MMS don't really go together when you're on wifi.

Ok I see. I turned off WiFi and of course my data doesn't work. I thought MIUI/CM7 fixed the loss of apn (data) issue ? Although I can make calls, I can not use data over the mobile network unless I remove my battery and reboot with WiFi off. This sucks.

Yup! I can successfully connect. But my apns have data and mms as different profiles. So I think its switching to mms then before it sends properly it tries switching back to data? I don't think there's a way to combine the two apns for wind mobile. But it works fine on weapon :s any more clues??
Thanks for your help so far!!

APNs are like that. One APN for data, one for mms.

Hmm I noticed in #*#*4636*#*# that my phone is constantly switching between data and mms. I've tried deleting the mms that I'm sending but the phone still constantly switches between the two. Anyone have any reasons?

I just checked and once I try and send an mms it locks the phone in this vicious cycle of switching between internet and mms apn settings. Then a reboot fixes it. Anyone else experience this? I'm not sure if or how I can give more detailed info.
i dont have any issue, but sometime when phone goes through dead spot and radio crashes.. where it stay stuck in no service, you flick on plane mode and it doesn't effect it. So you'd have to reboot in order to get your service back. Otherway around that is you go in mobile network and select your network, but apns will disappear. :d SO just reboot.

Would it be too much trouble to ask you how did you fix this? some of us are dealing with this issue and we will appreciate if you can give us the solution since there's no patch or fix out there

I looked around and found that mms doesn't work over wifi, regardless of rom or root or anything. It seems the tmo servers need to make a data connection in order to start mms send. I've never had a problem receiving mms over wifi, but sending seems not possible.
Edit: As far as receiving, I enabled "auto retrieve"and have had no problems receiving mms on wifi.

I'm not using WiFi to send MMS and after checking the APNs I found two one says epc.t-mobile.com and the other one says simple with proxy settings in it... did a hard reboot, reboot, wipe dalvik cache, wipe cache and still have the same issue, very frustrating

[Q] Would my theory work?

Okay, say I bought a galaxy s2 skyrocket without a plan. Then I rooted it and downloaded a wireless tether app to make my phone a wireless hotspot. I then downloaded a VoIp app like (textPlus).
What I'm wondering is will I be able to talk anywhere like a regular cell phone but without the charge? Because the VoIp app needs internet to receive/send calls and texts. And the wireless tether will provide that. So yeah, I'm just wondering if its possible to make it a phone without call/texting/data charges.
Thank you.

Oh damn. Haha well okay thanks.
When you say tether....
Dont you mean just turn on the Wifi - therefore using it on a WiFi connection?
THAT should work - in theory.

Well I meant to activate the wireless hotspot device in the phone. Thus allowing you to use internet anywhere and letting you use the VoIp app (textPlus) anywhere.
The wireless hotspot uses the cell service for the internet connection. So if the phone is not activated then no it won't work. You could use the voip to make calls when you have access to someones wifi or using an open connection by wardriving.

When you activate wifi tether the phone needs to be activated because cell service is used for the data connection. So the answer is no.

google voice over 4g data
Search on play store for GrooVe IP. It is a paid ($5) app that claims to route google voice calls over the phones data connection.

[Q] How to Permanently Turn Mobile Data off ?

I know this probably seems a little crazy or weird. But is there any way that I could more permanently turn my mobile data connection off and still use wifi networks? If there is a way to do so I would greatly appreciate any insight or help. Thanks

Crazy indeed lol, but you should have a quick tile that says "mobile data" which you can turn off or another that says airplane mode which you can turn on. After you can turn on WiFi and use it. You might need to do this every time you reboot but it's the easiest way.

Thanks for the reply Stig. I am aware of the quick tile, I was thinking of something that is a little more permanent that would require some effort to turn mobile data back on. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yeah I understand, figured I'd share the easiest method just in case Are you S-OFF? A more permanent method might require you be S-OFF, I'm not 100% sure but just fyi...
I am indeed S-off. But I am not a developer. Haha. Perhaps there is a way, but if there isn't that is ok too.
Just out of curiosity what is going on that you want it to be so permanent?

What about removing the sim card? I remember seeing either a thread or an xposed module that removes the no sim card notification.
Edit: there is indeed an xposed module for this, only thing though is I don't know if it will work with the M8 and the support page is some Asian language.

I want to be able to make/receive calls and use WiFi. And the WiFi has filters in place to keep things safe but I don't want to have the ability to bypass the filters simply by using mobile data. I wouldn't be able to make/ receive calls without a sim card in, right Stig?

Correct you cannot have any mobile communication without a Sim card.

If your on wifi you can make and receive calls over wifi with google voice. Just set up a free google voice number and you can call and text over wifi. Also if you have or get a phone number through magicjack you can use their app and make and receive calls over wifi. Both of these work over wifi and do not require a sim card or mobile data of any kind, you just can only call or text if you have wifi available though.

What does someone do if you want to sell or give that tablet
Before you data plan stop for that device. Even if you do a
Factory reset anyone can turn the mobile data ON!

Take the sim card out of it. Without a sim, it doesn't matter if mobile data is on or not. No sim means no service. You can use the sim in your new device if you're replacing the old one. Otherwise, throw it away.

OnePlus Google Fi

I am interested in moving away from a Pixel and getting the OnePlus. I am on Google Fi and I understand that moving to something other than a Pixel (or the handful of other "for Fi" phones) will leave me without network switching, and Google says no more WiFi calling or messaging. I am wondering if anyone has gotten the WiFi calling working on OnePlus on Fi, or the messaging. Thanks in advance.

With RCS being activated in the Messages app, the WiFi messaging should not be a problem. Not sure about WiFi calling though.

I thought about that too with the switch to RCS messaging. I'd seen threads regarding wifi calling on OnePlus 7 on other sites but nothing about Google Fi, so was hoping someone here had experience. Thanks.
I have the Oneplus 7 Pro and Google Fi and it shows Volte and have no problems on it.

Basically I have this too. What I have noticed is that on some powerons and reboots, it's not there.... And then a later beboot, it comes back. So, not solid, AFAIAC.

WiFi calling works, and it hasn't on plenty of my devices.
Looks like Fi app has option for wifi calling now, have yet to test it out. No idea if device needs a reset Fi app uninstall to enable the toggle, if it's actually necessary. Installing Fi app always removed the option on activation and defaulted to the wrong apn on the first stable 10 build.
Cheers

No, I have Optimum, I don't know anything about GF.
Custom rom? Are your enhanced network toggle and WiFi priority settings on the device? Fi seems to remove mine upon activation.
No such luck in airplane mode wifi.
Are you getting the VPN as well? None here.
I have to select the second apn after activation , drops mobile signal from tower to tower. Who knows if it's all correct I can't verify with tech support.
Thanks
