Contacts to bluetooth phonebook problems - Captivate General

Hey guys,
When my car’s bluetooth downloads the contacts from my captivate, it downloads some contacts, but doesn't download the ones from my exchange server. They show up fine in the contacts app, but the car doesn't receive them. I thought it might be an issue with the way they were put into the contacts, so I undid the built in android exchange account, deleted the contacts, then installed touchdown and populated it that way. Still no joy.
Does the Captivate only send certain contact groups? If so, is there a way to move contacts from one group to another, or to choose which one is considered the “main” group?

Backup and restore PHONE grouups and contacts

So android seems to have this inherent limitation with respect to Groups. i.e. in order to set a group ringtone, or have my groups displayed in Launcher Pro widgets, I need to make a contact on the Phone, assign this Phone contact as part of a group, and then link the Phone contact to an existing contact (Gmail, corporate, etc.).
This works but it is a pain in the neck to update to new ROMs as there is no easy way that I know of to backup and restore this information. I tried an export of my contacts before flashing and the export went fine. However, this forced me to export ALL of my contacts including the GMAIL and corporate ones. When I imported the contacts (after upgrading ROM), I imported them all to the PHONE which created duplicate entries for all the GMAIL and corporate contacts that got re-synched.
Does anyone know of a better solution for backing up and restoring only the PHONE contacts and groups? If there is no good solution, is there enough interest to justify development of an app to do this?

[Q] contacts will not sync to google

my wife got a new d2g and the contacts wont sync to Google. this is the second phone she got in less than a week do to other problems, and the phone before this would not sync either. and it is just the contacts, the calender and the gmail sync fine. under the google account on the phone all the options are checked to sync and it shows the arrows that its trying to sync but when i look online there are no contacts. any ideas?
I'm pretty sure that it's considered normal behaviour. If the contacts weren't added manually after setting up a Google account on the phone, they won't sync, or at least that's what I have here.
My dx sync just fine and I set it up the same way. Not sure what the deal is.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Ok gonna take a wild guess here and say that you had the carrier transfer contacts from the old phone to the D2G and that would explian why they do not sync.
Look at the contacts (might have to go into edit mode) and see what "PROFILE" it says for each contact.
My guess is it says Phone Only.
What you need to do (and I'm going off memory since I am not running stock myself)
Edit each contact and in the menu there should be something that says NEW contact that will take the info from the one you are editing but ask you which account to make the new contact for. Select your GMail acct when asked and save it.
Then fine the gmail version of the contact you just made and select join or link and link it to the Phone only version.
This will give you one contact that has two profiles, phone only and Gmail.
What I suggest for anyone moving to Android for the first time is to get all your contacts into GMail (using above method) Import all your facebook contacts as well (You can do that through Yahoo Mail wizard and exporting to CSV then i8mporting into Gmail) and once your GMail has a complete and accurate contact list wipe the data on the phone and sync with Gmail to get all your contacts back. Be sure to make a backup of all your contacts on GMail once you are done to guard against future corruption issues and to be safe.
Cloud Contacts is not one of the best features of the phone but once you have integrated all your current contacts into GMail and joined them and Facebook into a proper list it is not a problem anymore.

[Q] Help with Gmail, People app and groups

I've found that I'm unable to send email to the groups I've created in Gmail (thru my browser on my PC) when I'm using the Gmail app on my TF101.
I've seen where all my gmail contacts and groups are sync'd to the People app (I'm working with ICS), and I can send email to individual contacts and even initiate skype calls, but I cannot send email to a group. I can see where you can create a group, but not send to it.
Can it really be that it lacks this simple, integral functionality or am I missing something very basic here? Its even stranger when you consider that everything here is developed by Google. Is it a developer oversight or a purposeful move to cripple some functionality of the mobile app?
I hope the latter is not the case, and also hope someone can help out with this
Thanks
I've got the same problem (actually we all do..) It's not currently possible to send group emails in Gmail on android, using the stock contacts apps - seen someone suggest trying go contacts as this may work, but you'd have to initiate the email from within GoContacts as the other apps (Gmail) won't work.

Sync Exchange Contacts Include/Exclude by Category?

It seems with the stock email app synching contacts from an Exchange server is an all or nothing ordeal.
Currently I'm working with the nothing option by having previously synched all my exchange contacts in, backed up to gmail contacts, broke the Exchange contact sync and pruned gmail contacts and resynchronized to gmail contacts.
The problem is as I add contacts in Outlook I have to add them manually to my phone as well since there are a lot of contacts in Exchange I do not want on my phone.
My coworker's Motorola Droid allowed for synching only Exchange contacts by category. That is, categories are assigned on Outlook and the list of categories is loaded onto the phone and from the phone a category can be checked or unchecked to be included or excluded for synching.
This seems to be an appropriate solution for being selective about which Exchange contacts actually end up in my phone contacts. Unfortunately I'm not seeing such an option in the stock app. Is there such an option and if not is there an Exchange capable email app that does [provide this functionality without sacrificing the otherwise useful functionality of the stock app?
Thanks for the help!

I'd love to see this too. It would make it so much easier with BT voice dialing.

[Q] Syncing contacts

I'm in a bit of a strange situation apparently when it comes to syncing contacts.
Between my wife and I, we have 4 gmail accounts: personal for me, personal for her, our us account, and then one more for my online nickname.
What I'm trying to do is have our contacts synced between each account. I'm able to get our contacts synced to the google server per account, but I can't get them to propagate to other accounts.
Doing some searching, it seems the most popular method to do this was a third party website soocial or something like that, which is no longer working.
Ideally I want to move to a system where everything is linked to contacts (e.g. facebook, twitter), and we have one giant list of contacts between us (makes it a bit easier to keep data updated with our mutual friends/family.).
Thanks!
