I have a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant on Tmobile. Does anyone know how to turn off the screen when playing music in the background? When I hit the side button to turn off the screen, it turns off for a moment and turns back on again.
have you tried going to your home screen after you start the music app? Once on your home screen the app would be minimize and then your screen should time out automatically...
I am having the same problem on my Motorola Atrix. I have tried the default music player, winamp, vplayer and they all stop playing music when I try to put the phone in standby mode. Any solution or advice?
I find it hard to believe that this issue has not been resolved. I find it a very necessary setting to have for android to save battery power. Searched the internet with no solution yet. Please help. Thanks

(This was posted in the Titan forum, but since I beleive it is not device specific, I'm re-posting it here... )
I love using a2dp in my car stereo... sound quality is great, and I love carrying my tunes wirelessly from my WM6 PPC (HTC Titan) to the car speakers (Sony BT25000 stereo head unit installed in car).
Only problem is that I try to keep the screen off to save battery power, but everytime I press a command on my stereo (pause, next, previous, etc...), it wakes up the phone and I need to screen toggle it off again each time!
This is very annoying, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this problem, and is there a workaround?
I was thinking of writing some sort of MortScript to constantly check if the screen is on, and if so apply a screen toggle command, but it seems like this may create the problem of an infinity loop when I DO want to use it (turn on device, mortscript turns off screen off right away, repeat). Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I have noticed that when I use Core Player, the screen wakes up for a split second when a command is received and then does back to sleep. Of course, you would have to go through the menu of core player to activate the 'screen off' feature. This was tested on a X7501 running WM6.
I've tried a search to no avail.
Is there a way to just have the screen turn off with putting the device to sleep? On my TP if I'm listening to music thru the HTC built in music player or Coreplayer (streaming media), the phone no longer sleeps after a time out. It simply stays on with the screen dimmed. This is wasting battery life in my pocket. Can I just turn the screen off and keep the device awake? Pressing the power button puts it to sleep and the music stops.
Is this normal or is it because I've enabled auto lock feature with advanced config?
On my old universal I could just close the lid to turn the screen off. Is there a way to do it on this - maybe something like press and hold the power button while it's locked (otherwise it'll turn off!). Or better still - for it to recognise music is playing and just turn the screen off automatically and not sleep.
Cheers,
LLOYDY
Am I being stupid and missing something ridiculously obvious or is this not possible?...
I am working on an app that can to do this.
The current development thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431328

Try the excellent today plugin called DevState (Device State). Its has a "turn off screen" option which is what I think you are after.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-devstate-v1-5.html
It can be seen in my today screen below:
Cheers guys! Will look into these.
Stupid me - phone goes off by itself anyway. You just have to wait.

I think the title says it all. I would like shoot a long video in a fixed position, keeping the screen on is a real battery killer.
Cheers John
have you tried using a screen-off app tied to a hard button?
Yep, tried BlackMe 1.3 but that kills the camera from working. The camera doesn't seem to like working in the background. Tried just turning the screen off with the power button, hoping it would be like Mp3 players that keeps playing music.
Associate blackme to the center Dpad button, if you havent already.
Reason I suggest that, is so you can keep the camera/videorecorder in the foreground, and just hit that button to shut the screen off.
Obviously sometimes programs dont like working when the screen is off so idk if that will work.. but worth a try if you havent already (hard to tell from your response).;
If it does not, you would need a seperate video recording program that lets it record with the screen off. Dont know if those are available.
(also, hitting the power button is much different from blanking the screen .. so im not surprised the power button didnt work.)

Has anyone figured out a solution, yet? I've been wondering this since I got the phone...
Me want this too! Been searching for quite sometime but no luck. Come in handy if we want to take pic or vid discreetly, ehm..
Heeeeeeeeeeey everbody!
So I'm really hopping that someone can help me, 'cause i've been havin' some issues with my HTC ONE S.
This doesn't happen every second but it happens a lot. The issue is that my music player stops all of a sudden, with no reasons at all.
It doesn't really matter where i put the phone, in my pocket, on the table, doesn't matter, it just stops, and when I turn my screen on (not locking it up, just turning it on) i try to push play again, but it doesn't work, so i push next song, it still doesn't work, and there isn't a playback button.... So i have to lock up my screen, and then push play..
THIS GETS EXTREMLY ANNOYING AFTER A COUPLE OF TIMES A DAY....... SOOOOO PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
