HTC Evo extended battery review(3500mah) - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I know the battery have been sold and people have problems with the way it looks and the extra thickness it will add to the phone. But my question is: "Has anyone tried it out and if so how long has it lasted with moderate to heavy use?" I haven't seen any reviews for them provided for the Evo.

I purchased a 3000 mAh battery off of eBay with a replacement back for the phone for $12. So far it has worked fantastic for me and allows me to go all day without having to charge the phone. The one I got is tinyurl.com / 2fakhnr (remove spaces). The extra thickness makes typing on the phone MUCH better. Before the phone was too thin and made it difficult to hold and type at the same time. Also the quality of the replacement cover is very good. It has a nice rubberized feel to it like the original cover for the phone. I've been through about 5 full charge/discharge cycles on it so far and the capacity seems to be increasing still. I figure a couple more and I'll be good to start charging it normally.

a bit of advice from anyone?
I just recently bought this on eBay
"3500mAh Extended Battery + Cover for Sprint HTC EVO 4G"

Here is the link to it:
tinyurl is / 6jht2kb
But It only last me about 4.75 hours when the standard htc evo 4g battery last me about 4.5 hours moderate/heavy use of course. I replied to the seller but my question is to you guys do I need a different type of charger with it or is it good charging just by the HTC Evo4G Charger that I have for my standard battery. What should I do? Any comments or anything.

XDA Ignito 2000mAh extended battery with cover

I have just bought a new 2000mAh battery with a cover that fits the Ignito from ebay (from Gps4Less, I found out they have a website too) and so far I am very impressed. The quality of the cover is ok, much better than the ones for the Diamond arriving from China. It came from the UK so I did not have to wait long for it either. I charged the battery and after about 8 hours it is still at 96%. I have attached some pictures so you can see how it looks. There is no effect on the GPS performance, I got a GPS fix with this battery inside the house in about 30 seconds after starting Tomtom. The price was good about £16 including delivery, just do a search on ebay for 2000mAh battery for Ignito and you'll surely find it. I have been waiting for this one for a long time. I will keep you updated with the battery performance over the next few days. The only problem I have now is to find a suitable case for it, but it will probably make the phone even bigger. I guess the Invisible Shield might be a better option. So far they only have it for Diamond, not the Ignito, but I might give it a try. Now I won't fear of running out of power while listening to Internet Radio on my way to and from Uni
ugly as hell...
I will never understand why people get a SLEEK phone like the Diamond and stick in a FATASS battery and mess up the fantastic dimension of the phone...
You don't always have to use that battery, but sometimes you need more power, and that's when I'm gonna use it, I will not use it every day, and it's everyone's choice in the end, you can either carry 2-3 spare batteries in your pocket or have this when you need it. It's not too bad, but as I said, it's a question of choice. I could have got the original 1340 mAh battery, the back cover is flat and looks better but I don't think it would have been enough power for my needs.
P.S. Battery is now at 87% after 24 hours of normal use with 3G on, with the phone checking emails once per hour. Not bad...
cant find battery in ebay
hi,
can you send me the link.....can t find the battery .....

j,
Hi, here's one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=350144524998
or this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/O2-XDA-IGNITO...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262 which includes a cradle as well.
Over two days and the battery is at 72% with 3G on and standard settings, usually by now I would have had to charge my battery. The best I got from the standard battery was close to 3 days with the 3G turned off(GSM mode).
Thanks for that hind, I've bought it this morning because I need an extend battery too!
Thanks mate!
Hope you get that out of your pocket when no one's looking.
At least the official one didn't fall from the ugly tree:
http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=173907
Honestly, it doesn't look that bad when you have it in your hand, and it lasts way more than the official 1350mAh battery that expansys is selling for over £50. This one was only £16. Now onto 5th day without charging, battery 49%. What more can I say?
Just ordered this battery as after 1 day out using WiFi to check mail and other websites as well as playing games on the car journey and listening to some music my standard battery died after less than 10 hours!?! This should rectify this problem....
Thanks zoltar
Quick qusetion though, does it actually fit in any Ignito/Diamond cases now? (I don't use one just curious)

It does fit XDA Ignito from O2, it won't fit the original Touch Diamond, the back fitting is different. So, order this one only if you have an Ignito, otherwise look for a Diamond back case.
My extended battery just died this afternoo after more than 6 days since being charged, and only because I used my phone to listen to internet radio for more than 2 hours (it was 29% this morning). The last mobile phone to last me that long was a Philips with a black and white screen that I had back in 2000 - about 6-7 days. And it didn't have internet, music, office mobile, touch screen or colour screen.
I believe that if the manufacturer would make the back of the case flat, getting rid of the 'hump', a lot more people would buy it as many are being put off by that (see previous posts). But the battery is brilliant. I could go on a week holiday without taking any charger with me
I just have the phone next to me when I go to bed and attach it to charger.
It lasts the whole day with HSDPA and Bluetooth on (for carkit), and even some navigation will work. For car trips I have the car charger.
I never, but then NEVER had any battery-issues in my everyday use. I have a feeling everyone is just not needing the battery.
What is wrong with charging regularly overnight?
And yes, it looks damn ugly.
Oh,come on. you're advertising your ebay shop, right?

It arrived this morning, doesn't have a "massive hump" and actually feels ok whilst in hand. (Even I was surprised) Just one quick question do you charge yours with the cradle or does your original Ignito charge it no problem?
Thanks
p.s I just got an cradle, usb charger and mains charger that fits the cradle... no instructions ?!?! ah well can't be rocket science can it

If you were referring to me , you are wrong mate! It's not my shop, I just happened to buy it and found it a good product and thought I could help by posting pictures of it and my experience. If you check my other posts on this forum, you will see I have also bought other products for my Ignito on ebay from other shops.
To ant611982:
I charge mine either using the phone (I got mine without the cradle) or a separate charger I bought on ebay that charges the phone and a spare battery, but doesn't have a cradle. It can charge both the phone and a spare battery at the same time without any problem.
Zoltar do you use a case with this extended battery on? I can't seem to find one to fit. ONLY downside.
Thanks

I'm afraid I have the same problem I was thinking of buying the invisible shield, but i couldn't find one cut specially for the Ignito.
Edit: I found the following cases that might fit. They are for the Touch Pro, but should fit a thicker Diamond as well. I still have to make up my mind which one to choose. There are others on ebay, but most of them in Hong Kong, and if you are prepared to wait about 2 weeks for delivery, fine.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Belt-Leather-...14&_trkparms=72:1301|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318
This one seems really good to me.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PDair-Black-L...14&_trkparms=72:1301|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318
This one is from HK, but it is symilar to the original HTC case and it flexible on the sides.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/L1u-Leather-P...14&_trkparms=72:1301|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318
This is also from HK but it is a lot cheaper than the others. Looks ok in the pictures, not sure about quality. Not leather though.
I got my battery a few days ago and had used it since then! It's working really great, it feels that my Diamond would run more than doubled as with the stock one and GPS is also working!
Now I love my new device much more!
I would rather have this battery over the official one for the extra battery life, but wouldn't be able to live with the cover that comes with it. Anybody know if it'll fit into the offical extended battery case (http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=172103)?

any cheap 900mAh batteries to recommend?

Hey all, I am thinking of getting an additional batttery and charger so that my TD can last longer.
Anyone has experiences with those offered by DealExtreme?

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.25160
for 8USD i could have a charger+ battery which really suits my needs, wanted to see if anyone here has a better deal up ur sleeves
Personally me, I would by HTC extended BP E270 battery, it last's three times the 900 mah one, why would you want to carry additional battery all the time?
Just buy a 1800 mAh dude, just as I did
I just got a new Cameron Sino 900mha one on ebay for my Diamond.
The main reason I don't want to get the extended ones are because I can't find a case for my Diamond afterwards, and I'm uber-pandantic about protecting my phone...
I got the DX 900mAh battery ... figured you can't go wrong with a $4 purchase.
It works, for the most part. Battery life is on par with my genuine battery, so I figure it does have 900mAh.
The problem, is the battery runs very hot. With the genuine battery, the phone runs between ~ 28, 29C, to at most 38, 39C if I've been browsing on 3G for a while.
The DX battery runs at ~ 33C when first plugged in. It typically runs at ~ 35,36C, and easily gets up to 41,42C if you've been using 3G data for a while. It actually went up to over 50C one time when I was charging it and browsing on 3G at the same time.
The temperature worries me, so for the most part I stick with the genuine battery. I rarely run out of battery during weekdays when I am able to plug my phone to a PC at the office. I carry the DX battery as backup only during the weekends.
For European users: I recently bought this one for 6,90 € incl P&P cause I like the thin case and am willing to carry a backup battery with me whenever it is likely to be needed. Be aware that Deutsche Post Warensendung takes comparatively long time to be delievered.
It arrived a few days ago and looked 95% like the original battery although I can't believe that it really is ("htc INNOVATION" print is a bit larger). It fits the case not as perfect as the original one that came with the phone. Anyway, I conditioned it and its lifetime is absolutely comparable to the original.

Battery options: Extended vs. Spare regular battery

Like many thunderbolt owners, I'm slightly annoyed with the battery life.
Is it worth the bulk and cost ($45) to get the extended battery when I can just get a $15 spare battery? The regular battery fits in my wallet. I know a droid X owner who carries a "wallet battery" as a backup.
PS- is there a standalone battery charger for the regular thunderbolt battery?
I went for the extended. Yes, it's bulky but it also makes it through a long day of heavy use without a problem. Plus, that battery door is so hard to remove that I'd rather not mess with it.
The extended battery will certainly do the job, but it adds bulk & weight to a phone that's already no lightweight. And the case selection is pretty limited too. You can get a spare battery + charger for ~$20 on ebay. I can give you a link to a reputable ebay seller if you're interested.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Keep in mind that if you're using a spare battery, it means the phone has to power down, and unless you literally run it to the point of shutdown you aren't going to literally be squeezing every bit of power out of it. You'll get more total time with a 2x capacity battery than a spare.
I would say go with the extended. I only charge mine overnight and it makes it through a full day (5am-11pm). I do turn off 4g when I am at work and when not using my phone however.
A while back I got a 3-pack + charger on ebay for about $20. I haven't had any problems with them. I haven't noticed them lasting less than the original. Either way, I have 3...1 stays in the office, one in my backpack, and one at home.
It does suck taking the case & cover off (the case that I had on my Eris came off faster than a prostitute's panties). I usually have it plugged in for my commute so the battery makes it, and I really only swap batteries on weekends, especially when flashing a buncha ROMs.
I went with these. They are a little more power than stock 1700mah and you get 2 batteries plus wall charger for $34.99. They work very well for me and get me 2-3 hours more time than stock with moderate use...
http://www.htcexpress.com/search?or...search_query=thunderbolt&submit_search=Search
I tried the extended batter and I did not particularly like the weight and especially the bulk of it. It just isn't for me. I have home, work and car chargers, so I can keep it charged when I need to.
Do the 1700 mAh batteries fit under the stock cover like the 1600's do?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
i went with the 2750 mah and love it. battery lasts 14 hrs (no 4g coverage where i live) i got used to the heft rather quickly and love it. now to mod the car dock to fit this thing.

I have a spare standard battery and an external battery charger. Works great. I charge both up every night and keep one in my pocket. Haven't run out of power yet, and I'm pushing the phone pretty hard. (Live wallpaper, oc to 1.5, gps always on, 3g, sync, lots of texting)
I'm really pleased with the extended battery from Verizon. I just left the phone running to see how long it would go and I've gotten 2 full days out of it. It's been running 34 hours now and I'm at 5% power. I'm running bamf 1.7 and I'm in a 4g area. Although most of my time is spent on wifi.
I find that the phone is easier to hold with the extended battery. And the back is hard to remove so it's easier not having to worry about changing the battery.
I picked up 3 - 1500MAh + charger from ebay for $11.34. Link Here
I got the batteries in less than 2 weeks and I had a friend order from the same place and he got his fast as well. I've found these batteries as good if not better than the stock battery.
I bought that same 3 pack on ebay. I keep a spare one in my wallet. Works fine
I've been debating ever since I got my phone two weeks ago if I was going to give in and get the extended battery or pick up a cheap spare regular battery+wall charger and hope somebody will come out with an extended slim battery.
That link posted for the 3 batteries and charger for less than $12 seems like a good deal. I think I'll end up doing that so I can have a battery to carry on me and I can give one to my girlfriend.
I bought both the extended battery and the 1700mah batteries. I only used the 1700mah batteries like a week and got annoyed by the battery changes and bought the extended. Been happy ever since.

I bought from this seller. He is in New York, if I remember correctly. If you are in the continental US, you will get your items within a week.
I ended up going with the Verizon Extended battery and also got the High Gloss case for it too.. Now its complete in my eyes. I got used to the phone being this size now. Not bad at all considering how long the battery lasts now. It rocks.
I would say that you should first install Juice defender free. You will see that your battery life is greatly extended. You don't need root for this, it's an easy install from the market. After that, if your battery life is not acceptable (mine is), then go buy something

Spare batteries for the MT4GS? Anker for the win!!

I spent less than $30 over at Amazon and got two 1900mAh batteries and a charger for them. The batteries say that they are for the Sensation but work perfectly for the MT4GS. I take lots of photos with my phone(30-40 daily),, send a 150 or more messages a day, surf, compose emails and have about an hour of total talk time per day. 2 Anker batteries takes me through the day without needing an outlet.
I can fully recommend these for our phone. I am in no way affiliated with Anker and did not know the name before I purchased the product.
UPDATE: These batteries are NOT A WIN! After a month and a half of intense usage, I am finding (with two separate batteries) that these may not get enough power to our phones and results in an error for the camera flash when no real error exists (except with the manufacture of this battery perhaps).
I am checking out new batteries. Will report back asap. I am recommending folks avoid Anker for now though. I'm still investigating this situation.
FYI: The exact error is "unable to use flash due to cold weather".
UPDATE: After a few days of trying to reproduce the flash error, I've had zero problems and lots of fun with my phone so I think we can chalk it up at most to a defective battery and not a systemic issue. I've been using the battery since with no problems. Enjoy your phones!

That's the link to the one I just ordered, it shipped yesterday, should be here in another two days. I'll definitely review after I get it.
Anker batteries in the 1900 capacity have been recommended by several here so far, and I haven't heard anything negative about them except for:
One user reports that the fit is almost too snug in the battery case. Any words on this?
Other then that - they sound like a solid win, enough so that I bought one too.
I actually purchased the set that comes with two batteries as I bought my MT4GS on Craigslist and couldn't verify the integrity of the battery it came with. The batteries for the Sensation DO fit snug but it doesn't cause any problems. I spent 30 minutes looking at that aspect. Putting them in, taking them out.... The batteries last a good while (1900mAh) and the charger seems to work well after the initial charges which are a bit longer than normal (but not much longer).
One thing to look out for is that the charging prongs on the charger have a design I have not seen before. Since it is a universal charger from Anker they slide along a rail as so that they can be used to charge various HTC batteries which may have the charging port at various different points along the top of the battery. So like the G2 or the HD2 battery could be charged in the charger as well (I've done it) because you can move the charging prongs from left to right along this rail that they slide on. So you have to make sure that you have them lined up for the + and - port on the MT4GS battery so that you're getting a proper charge and not just sitting there wasting your time.
It's a small thing and not a problem. In fact, it might be a bonus for those who have other HTC devices that it can also charge.
Congrats on your purchase. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Chinese 3 battery combo with charger
I have been buying the spare batteries from Hong Kong/China with the slow ass battery charger for my past few devices. They are 10.95 delivered. The MT4GS and the Sensation are IDENTICAL. I spent 1 dollar more for the MT4GS and everything was exactly the same and there was no reference to MT4GS on either of the packages that arrived at the same time.
I can't complain. I always have my laptop bag with all of my techno gear spare 2A DC and AC chargers.
I can't not be connected?

It's definitely a tight fit, but it's not too bad -- it's not hard to pull out when you want to change the SIM or microSD card, for instance. It is tight enough that it doesn't fall out by itself very readily, though -- a couple days ago when I was experimenting with the carrier unlock and swapping SIM cards, I forgot to put the back of the phone* back on when I was done, and I carried the phone around for several hours without having the battery fall out or come loose. I even dropped the phone about 2.5 feet from my desk surface onto the non-carpeted floor and the battery didn't pop out.
So the fit is definitely snug -- much snugger than I'm used to in a phone battery, in fact -- and you have to press down to get the top to slide into place properly, but in my opinion it's a good thing, not a bad thing.
*That is, the "battery" cover, although it covers a lot more than just the battery, unlock my G2's battery cover, which I wish they had made the mT4GS's battery cover more like, but now I'm a bit off topic...
Good to know.
Mine came in today, and i'm watching the charge light turn purplish now as it goes from red to blue, so it should be real soon that it's done charging for the first time.
I think i'm going to restore my first solid CWM backup after rooting on my old battery, then wipe the battery stats file, power down, swap batteries, and power up to run it down. Hopefully this will get me a good calibration right off the bat.
I can't wait to start using it - this holding off until it's charged all the way the first time is killing me lol.
I'll report back in a few days how it works after the first 4-5 discharge cycles the package says it'll take to get my full capacity out of it.
Do you have to use the charger that comes with the battery to charge the battery or can you charge it as normal inside the phone? I would like to get a longer lasting battery but I certainly do not want to have to remove it from my phone every time I want to charge it.
No, it charges just fine inside the phone. The external charger is just in case you need to charge it outside the phone for some reason, like if you have two batteries and you want to charge both up for a long trip or something.
Awesome! Just picked up two MT4G Slides the other day and already I can see the battery life is going to be a potential issue. Coming from a Bold 9700 I knew I was going to run through the battery much faster, but I wasn't quite expecting this fast.
Okay, after my second day with the Anker 1900 battery, I am extremely impressed.
It's like a night and day difference. Honestly, my biggest concern was the heat issue. I noticed that my stock battery got pretty warm, and while not enough to burn me, was enough to impact the lifespan of the device and battery.
I had a theory that spreading the same amount of load over a greater range of discharge would produce less heat, and that has proven out to be true. Maybe the Anker battery is just made better, but more likely my theory was correct.
The Anker battery doesn't get anywhere near as warm with general use of the device as the stock battery did. Solid win there.
The amount of time I get with the battery before having to charge is already significantly increased, and I haven't fully broken it in yet. I'm no longer having to plan out where my next charge location is going to be and trying to ration my device usage to make sure I get to it. Now I can just go about my business without worrying about running out of juice.
Bonus points because now my stock battery is available as a backup, just in case - making the win that much sweeter.
Thanks to everyone who suggested this battery, it was definitely a great buy, and the price is unbeatable.
u think I can buy sume of those battery from amazon.com? I'm Italian, but I can't find shipping restriction section...
Good find. I might pick up one of these. Would really have liked the charger to be USB powered, though (or at least have a long cord) so I could set this on my desk next to my phone.

I don't know if you'll find much traction for this - the anker battery has a higher capacity rating and lots of endorsement from people (myself included) who think it is a superior replacement for the stock battery.
I'd be curious, just to know, but I would recommend the anker 1900 battery for the sensation above anything else.
I wonder why you would want to know this?
Contacted Laptopmate (US Distributor of Anker) via Amazon's customer service. Turns out they have an Ebay store and an Amazon store.
Ebay store is MUCH cheaper. Found batteries and a charger for $15 less.
One thing this company does on both sites is "overlist" they will have the same product for $8.99, and $9.99 for example. I found the first eBay mt4gs battery was 11% off and listed at $14.99 with charger, I kept exploring and found it later for $11.99 - same item.
You also need to watch they have some other non-Anker batteries with varying capacity sizes that might be a bit less. YMMV.
Now just sitting back and waiting for them to arrive.
Will be picking this up for me and my friend (who has the sensation). Good find!
Just ordered two today! Can't wait...as I take lots of pictures and videos so it'll be refreshing to have fully charged batteries ready to go, on the gooooooo.....
Just so people know, it is a little bit bigger. I have a problem squeezing my body glove case on (but it does go on, barely). I'm just waiting for another case with more clearance so it fits.

That bad? Jeez...
I need a case, otherwise this phone will be abused too much. It is an expensive piece of equipment.
On a side note, I've been trying my damned hardest to drain this thing for 6 hours, and I'm only at 50%. Highest brightness game playing and browsing, and 4G has been on the whole time. Plus, I took enough pictures of my gf to get her irritated.

Extended Battery

I've seen some Anker 2400mah batteries for the EVO 3d, but seeing how they're the same I would've thought there to be the same for a sensation but with a different back cover.
I can't find anything like that, if anyone can, please let me know.
Also, isn't there an official HTC extended battery like the hd2 one for the sensation?
Bump .... ... .. .
If i'm not mistaken there are many types of extended battery for the HTC sensation that do not need a bigger cover. First you have the popular Anker Batteries.. This is so far, to me, the best extended battery as it greatly improves the battery life of my sensation. What used to last me half a day with 3g on, now lasts me about 13-15 hours. Hope this helps.
Hey mate have you tired ebay? I got one for my sensation paid 10gbp and it last over 48 hours with listening to abit of music and texting and talking. its a perfect fit and it hasnt even got close to being warm.

I have the Anker, but it doesn't last me more than about 6-7 hours, and this is with it underclocked; granted I do use it a lot, but that's why I'm looking for a better one that's thicker than the oem batteries like anker.

I have looked on ebay, but I haven't seen batteries with higher mah's like 2400mah or more. I don't mind having to put on a thicker case, but there doesn't seem to find any for the sensation - there are more for the EVO 3D eventhough they use the same type of batteries.

Hi guys I need help to find a good solution for my sensation... actually with stock battery, display brightness set to 40%, CPU set to 1290 MHz and 3g connection on, I get only 4-5 hours of use... I need somethings that help me to reach at least 10 hours of intensive use without paying over 15-6 €… What you suggest? I'm thinking about:
1) http://www.ebay.it/itm/330715277447?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619#ht_2514wt_924
about this I read only negative feeds here on xda while on amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B005O8SA2S/ref=dp_db_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1) there are many positive reviews
2) http://www.amazon.co.uk/1900mAh-rec...XHC0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334234975&sr=8-1
I've read that this is produced by the same company of anker battery and that this has the same quality of any anker battery...
3) any anker battery pack with 1900 mah, but price is about 20 €...
what do you think about the first? The second should be better? I need to stay about 15 hours without charging (5 of intensive use and 10 of moderate use)... I also want to buy a separate charger for the second battery, but I'll take it from hong kong and delivery time is about 30-40 days...
edit: another one: http://www.ebay.it/itm/2500mAh-Exte...s=63&clkid=7668371913865367678#ht_1701wt_1037

The gold batteries are terrible, the saner and anker (chichitec too in US) are the best choices.

The gold one is crap - I bought it and it was only 1500mah - the seller is a scumbag too. When I sent proof it was nowhere near rated, he said he could refund me half, and then tried to negotiate from there claiming it is not his fault. He refused to edit his listing nor acknowledge others who had the same issue (see his feedback). I had to bully him into a refund by threatening negative feedback and a paypal dispute.
It seems there is only one option with a replaceable back cover, and it is Mugen $100~ and gives poor reception since there are no antennas on the cover.
You may want to investigate the powerskin, although I don't care for the inability to transfer data via usb while it is on, nor the shape. I do miss my EVO 3D + Extended battery.
