I downloaded the root file from here. Installed it in the root directory. When I rebooted into recovery mode and selected "reinstall packages" I got an error saying could not read file, sdcard/update.zip . Then it aborted the install. I had removed the sd card so I would make no mistakes putting it in that directory. Is it possible the recovery mode is looking for the files to be there?
Is it possible that the file is bad??
I found another source for the root file. I have the Superuser Permission icon. It appears that the file was for the Vibrate and i9000 and not right for the Captivate. I saw that others had the same issue on other forums.
I attempted to install a couple games and I still got the infamous we are protecting your phone and unable to install applications other than Android Market.
Is there some other app I need to install to run third party apps???
Quick question, Did you enable Install from non-market sources in the settings?
Under applications I see three filter options. All, Running, and Third party. Third party was selected. Seems like there should be an option for none.
Bear with me guys. I'm new to this stuff. At 53 maybe I'm too old to be trying. It looks like there are a couple ways to run 3rd party apps. One is using android SDK and the other a program called Root Explorer. Which is the best and simplest way to go?????
Maybe I should re phrase the question. Which is he safest way to run 3rd party apps. Are all these changes permanent meaning they only have to be done once. Then I'll always be able to run 3rd party stuff all the time?
I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong area. Seems like it should be under the Captivate section.

Hello,
Id like to request some support.
I have successfully rooted my galaxy tab (7 inch model, gingerbread) and that seems to be working correctly: I have that super user app install, and every time I launch a root like app (such as shoot me etc..) there's the pop up asking for permission.
Problem comes at the next step: busybox. I have downloaded the busybox installer from the market. Followed the steps... latest message I saw from the app is that everything went smooth, but when I launch apps that require busybox (such as Shark), application says it cant find busybox...
After rebooting, I go again to the busybox installer (I got the two of them now available on the market). Once says I don't have root, which BS, and invites me to go to the super user app and forget the settings about that application. That I do, and doesnt do anything. App request root priveleges, which I grant, but it will still tell me that it doesnt have them.
The second busybox app goes a little further: It gets the root powers (which once again proves my phone is definitely rooted) and it says something like phone is rooted and many copies of busybox were encountered.
Apparently I got more than a single copy. But when I try to "re-install" it, this is what I get: can not install because system is not in read write mode.
And i did remount the system folder with root tools pro but I still get the same message...
So, how could I resolve this situation?
Hi,
My android 4.0.4 cellphone is rooted already. It says: su version: 3.30, software version:3.3.5.52.
But I'd like to make a change ---- for some app I'd like NOT to see the popup "root access granted". Mine just does not have this option. I see several supersu apps that can switch single app notice. I've tried these supersu apps, none of them can override my older one. I even tried one that needs install in recovery mode, it does not override, either, and a lot of trouble to uninstall it.
So, what am I supposed to do?
Used the ping pong root for at&t s6 and worked great. Deleted a lot of crap and was happy. But the galaxy apps app keeps finding a way to redownload itself. Tried to go through settings and turn off auto update And everything. Anyone have any tips??
I'd be interested to know if there's a workaround to this as well. Once I know for sure we can get rid of the bloatware I may jump back on the S6 bandwagon.
Isn't there a way to remove the download list app from the Play Store so that they don't redownload automatically?

On the G3 there was a folder which had a list of apps it would download no matter what, wonder if the S6 has something similar?
Did you reboot your phone after uninstalling?
Even without rebooting it does it. Play store auto update and everything is off. I did notice in kinguser after deleting things there are files that show up at bottom of the uninstall list. File names like com.Flipboard or com.shealth its weird files for the apps that were uninstalled. And even deleting those from list they just show up again. I'm going to look around file explorer see if I can find anything.
Samsungs S Health app is another one that won't delete. Found the com. Folder with file in it. But says can't delete. This is with root access. Maybe we just need to flash a whole new ROM. I'm sure cynagen working on one
maybe try using sdmaid, it uninstalls well for me
What are you using to uninstall? I see you said Kinguser so I'm assuming not using Titanium Backup. Try to get supersu instead
I tried a couple times to make SuperSU the main app but even following the directions in the ping-pong root thread I just can't seem to make SuperSU work for some reason
Hi, may you can install an "Root explore", then just go to /system/app and directly remove apk files of those annoying apps from your ROM.
I rooted my phone with kingroot and while i was using the extra rope, i hung myself. The settings.apk in my phone has become somehow damaged, and will not open. The .apk still exists, but every time i try to open settings (directly or otherwise) it closes with a pop-up saying: unfortunately settings has stopped. I also tried to replace kinguser with superSU and failed leaving myself with confusing root access that is only revealed when certain apps like varied root checkers tell me i'm rooted.
I cannot install non market apps because when settings became damaged, the box was unchecked. All i need is to be able to fix the settings.Apk. I don't have a computer and i can't update superSU binary. I have factory reset my device and tried to find solutions onlinen to no avail. I can access the hidden menu and terminal emulator without root. I need to be able to enable non market installation some how. Can anyone help me?

I have installed a downloaded apk from the file manager (by enabling it from the "install unknown apps" menu). The problem is that I want to use this app that I've installed in order to install another app, but it's impossible. The installed app does not appear in the "install unknown apps" menu so I can enable it, and in its properties and permissions it only shows that it can access and modify files. It also does not pop an error message, it just doesn't do anything when i press the install button. The apk itself is not corrupted since it works perfectly on another phone and a tablet (i've also tried re-downloading and reinstalling it a couple of times), I've restarted the phone, I've hard-reset the phone... still nothing. My phone is not rooted (but then again so are the other two devices on which it works perfectly), and there is no antivirus installed. Even the device's security option from the maintainance menu is disabled. Any ideas?
Yes, each app has to be enabled to be able to install other apps. I.e. if you download APK from browser, and try to install it from file manager (i.e. ES explorer or such) it will tell you ES has no permission to install other apps... you have to enable it for each app that is going to install APKs.
Exactly. In order to install the apk I give the necessary permissions to the file manager and it successfully install the app (let's call it app1). But then I need app1 to install another app (let's call it app2) which does not happen in my s8+ (but there is no problem with my other devices which are also not rooted). The problem is that in my other devices app1 appears in the "install unknown sources" menu so it can install app2. On the s8+ app1 does not appear on this menu so there is no way I can give it permission to install app2.
I am not sure, but I vaguely remember that it asked me... I tried installing, and it popped up notification that I need to set permission so I just did... I am not sure where in settings that is
