can I change to another root? - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
My android 4.0.4 cellphone is rooted already. It says: su version: 3.30, software version:3.3.5.52.
But I'd like to make a change ---- for some app I'd like NOT to see the popup "root access granted". Mine just does not have this option. I see several supersu apps that can switch single app notice. I've tried these supersu apps, none of them can override my older one. I even tried one that needs install in recovery mode, it does not override, either, and a lot of trouble to uninstall it.
So, what am I supposed to do?

[Q] Hide root access from app

Since there is no sensation XE forum i'll post this one here. So i've finally managed to root my sensation xe again (/cheer). The thing is i have an app (Yelo TV, belgium tv network telenet android app) that refuses to stream recorded shows since the device is rooted. Now i've got "Hide My Root" Installed and hid the su binairy. But it still detects root access and won't stream.
So i'm asking all of ya (but primairly the rooted sensation xe, yelo tv users) have any of you managed to restore streaming on this rooted device?
oh and installed titanium backup pro too, but can't seem to figure out how to create backup for all my aps in 1 go (or is that the update.zip feature). Really don't wanna go an create a backup for the 6 dozen aps i got installed. Oh and does anyone know a good ad blocker. There used to be one in the market called AdFree or something but looks like it's gone.
go to the superuser app
navigate to the tv app and select deny for root permissions
about adblocker you can use adaway app
can't navigate to it, as it's not in the su app. It doesn't the tv app doesn't trigger a superuser root access request. The app sees on it's own that the device is rooted. Or do i need su elite for that? (currently using the non-elite app) or a different su app.
I believe the app supersu has a temp u root feature. You could try that and see if it helps you may need to full unrrot superuser first, then add supersu

A couple of days ago I found an app which is able to "hide" your root access, but it needs to be activated manually before launching the problematic app. google for it, found it on one of the top search results (it is on google play). It specifically mentions it enables using apps such as Google Video and the likes, so I guess you should try it.
@Heavy Metal: supersu, temp u root? No idea what ur on about. I sure as hell won't be losing my root over 1 app. Ill watch the stuff on TV then.
@astar: i would if you'd say the name. As i said, i have "hide my root" installed. Even if i tell it to hide the su binairy, yelo TV still detectq the root and won't stream.
Edit: tried supersu. Said the binairy needed an update. Normal installation won't work, other one requires cow or another one. Can't i push it via adb or something. Custom recovery makes it impossible for ota updates. (Not that this phone has been given any. No idea if it even will be updated to 4.1 let alone 5)

It won't get any further official updates. And as for SuperSU, just allow it to update, it will do the job. And all the updates we might need are available as custom ROMs (although without the apps you want to use).
I think I might have just got it. this app came with the phone, right? So maybe making it a "user" app would work, as it's system privileges allow it to detect root binary even if it's hidden (system apps can do whatever they want, without asking for permission). Create a backup of the whole ROM first, so you won't lose the app. Then copy it to the SD card, delete it from /system/app and then open it with a file explorer, it will install the app. It might just work.
Edit: The app I fount was exactly what you used.
supersu won't update it. its a htc phone so needs custom recovery and no. Yelo TV did not come with the phone.
anyone got the latest su binairy ? the one i have dates from 29/02/2008 and is 21.8kb in size
oh and supersu fked up my root seriously. Said it found conflicting aps and needed to uninstall them. so allowed it to do so. so it removed all updates from "system ap". Now everything that had root access no longer does and when it asks for permission it gets denied

You don't have a custom recovery? And as far as I know, it is able to update itself, there are choices for updating.
no i don't have a custom recovery, installed the latest superuser app from play store

Since you are rooted, why not installing? It's quite out of the discussion, but you should, as it only gives you benefits in the normal situation (There will be no OTAs in the future, and anyway, it allows you to backup and restore your phone should anything happens. Since you are rooted I guess you have your bootloader unlocked via HTCUnlock or S-Off.
so managed to update to latest binary and superuser version (3.1.3) according to superuser itself. Then ran SuperSU still claims a binairy update so did that one too. Then removed the outdated superuserapp from ChainsSSD
yes, i'm s-OFF (did that when back on android 2.3.4). Still doesn't fix the fact that the app won't stream. but nvm. After updating binairy and apk, Yelo now throws a different error. "failed to communicate with digicorder"
though i did find a page claiming a superuser version 3.1.4 http://nishantn3.blogspot.be/2013/04/latest-superuserapk-v31447-su-v3218.html
now where in SuperSU do i hide the root or deny root checking for yeloTV

You can not deny root checking, but you can deny root access for it. But to understand how it works, did it request root access? Try removing it from the list in SuperSU.
I said that in my first post. I doesn't even ask for root access, it just sees that the device is rooted. One of the sites i found claimed they were checking for /system/bin/su
even with SuperSU (disabled and hidden), it still detects root access (even after i killed the yeloTV process) after hiding su. Could it be because SU is running as user and not /system.
use xprivacy (xposed framework) to block su in yelo app (under shell menu), works for me!
Could you provide links to what I need and what I need to do.

Try rootcloak it's in the play store

Tried and failed will contact the Dev though. Weird thing is that the yelo app does allow me TV on my nexus 7 2013, do I wonder why it sit work on cm 10.2

[Q] SuperSU update fails

I know there's a dedicated SuperSU thread but being a newbie on this forum I cannot post there.
I have Teclast P78HD tablet (A31 and Android 4.4.2) which I have rooted using Kingo. There is no custom recovery available for this model, AFAIK, so zip option is out of question I think. Kingo installed SuperSU 1.9.1 which does work, but as Play offered an update I accepted it, got 2.0.1. A big mistake.
The system still works, it prompts to grant root access when an app needs it. But I cannot run the SuperSU app anymore, it asks if I want to update. If I select yes after a while it fails and tells to reboot and try again. Which of course gives the same result. Selecting cancel closes the program. Uninstalling the update returns the system back to working 1.9.1. I have tried also Settings / Cleanup / Reinstall and Settings / Cleanup / Switch superuser app but both fail similarily. I also tried to replace the APK in /system/app using ES File Explorer but this method also makes an app to ask for update.
Any ideas how to update SuperSU on this tablet? Maybe I should just forget the problem and use the current one, but it is somewhat old and the changelog lists many, many changes. Plus Play keeps offering an update which is somewhat annoying

[Q] problem rooting

Hello, i have a gt-n8010 tablet and just updated it to 4.4.2, from 4.1.2 i had root, worked any method cwm or autoroot, but in this version cant make root work well, i use SuperSU as root app, i do this: (debugging is on)
1 install SuperSU through autoroot (using odin) it installs and everthing goes well, reboots and it says something about disabling knox i just hit yes
2 install pro and configure the SuperSU app,*
but at some point after using the app (granting root access), when i access the SuperSU interface it tells me that SuperSU has to update the "su" binary it asks me "normal" or "CWM", i hit normal as always because i didnt install CWM recovery, but this time fails installation and closes the app unlike version 4.1.2 wich didnt have any problem, and doesnt let me to access the app interface because it keeps telling me about updating binary, but when an app asks for root access it still asks me to grant it, and any app previously root granted stays granted.
the apps i use with root are: root explorer, root uninstaller, game killer, triangle away
wich seems strange is that root explorer, root uninstaller and triangle away once i grant root access they work fine, i can access root folders and modify them, uninstall system apps and even reset flash count, but game guardian, game killer and gamecih dont work as they should, they open well but cant use them to read memory and change any ingame value.
gamecih just never shows that has root access even if i granted it and doesnt respond to hotkey
game guardian opens and appears to work but when searching for a value shows 0 results everytime, every game
and game killer opens, but the message saying "Rooted" never shows and after like 20 seconds it closes and opens again in an infinite loop without letting me use it, it also doesnt respond to hotkey.
i have also tried the CWM recovery method and install SuperSU through recovery, it install without problem and just as previous method after some time of use it tells me that SuperSU has to update binary and fails installation and still cant use apps like game killer, i go back to CWM recovery and reinstall it, it reinstalls but this second time, it tells me something about disable recovery flash i just hit yes and after that it warns me about root access loss and ask me to fix it, wich i say yes, then i hit reboot now and everything goes well, but same problem, updating binary problem and no game killer type apps.
i have tried uninstalling every knox app, but still the same. i like to hack games rooting for anything else doesnt matter, any idea what can be causing this? and how to solve it?

Try to download/update via the Google play store, it might do the trick.

Try to uninstall supersu (root uninstaller) and install via Google play, the same su update question will then be asked and click on normal just like you did before. The problem might be due to a old version of supersu from the flash.

I have already tried reinstall, first shows to work fine, when message that su binary has to update comes out and it installs correctlly, it just needs sometime after or a reboot for the app to ask me again about su binary update and fail installation, during the time it "installed correctlly" i still have the same problem losing root access with gamekiller type apps.
i have also tried full unroot from inside the app, then reflash SuperSU, and still have the problem even that is 2.02 version.
But have to say that i have root access already, i tried another su app, i installed CWM recovery then installed rom manager from Google play, then inside rom manager downloaded and installed Superuser and it worked and still does, all my apps that need root access work, dont know how or why, but they work. For obvious reasons i had to install SuperSU first then grant root access to rom manager then install the other su app and bingo!!, but for reasons i dont know, the SuperSU app was no where to be found, like if it was uninstalled, but thanks anyway

HELP!!

I rooted my phone with kingroot and while i was using the extra rope, i hung myself. The settings.apk in my phone has become somehow damaged, and will not open. The .apk still exists, but every time i try to open settings (directly or otherwise) it closes with a pop-up saying: unfortunately settings has stopped. I also tried to replace kinguser with superSU and failed leaving myself with confusing root access that is only revealed when certain apps like varied root checkers tell me i'm rooted.
I cannot install non market apps because when settings became damaged, the box was unchecked. All i need is to be able to fix the settings.Apk. I don't have a computer and i can't update superSU binary. I have factory reset my device and tried to find solutions onlinen to no avail. I can access the hidden menu and terminal emulator without root. I need to be able to enable non market installation some how. Can anyone help me?

apps greyed out after installing android pay?

As title says. I installed android pay. I went through the setup which changed an nfc setting from sim card to processor. Then I restarted my phone. About 6 apps are missing. If I go to settings/ application manager/All. I can see them there but they are greyed out with an SD symbol above them.
Annoyingly this includes "suoersu". Android pay doesn't work with root so I was hoping to turn root off temporarily. I can't uninstall supersu, install it from the playstore or from apk. I can't even install other versions like superuser etc.
Any idea as to what's going on greatly appreciated.
It's a galaxy S5 with xtrestolite rom.

Why don't you simply clean install the rom again? For using android pay you can try using Magisk and SuperSU systemless mode.
Thanks for the reply. I will give magisk a go.
This phone is my work phone and also has lots of photos and video pf my kids. I think it's all backed up but I always lose something when I reflash. Currently apps that were granted root in the past still have it so not a big issue yet. Xposed is missing tho so I won't be able to update modules. If that bugs me enough I may have to reflash rom. It has been smooth for 2 years at least. Probably due for a refresh. Maybe even a new phone.
