Not sure about you guys but I only use twitter for news/tech updates.
Since a twitter account doesn't exist for galaxy s updates I figured I would make one.
https://twitter.com/TheGalaxyS
I'll be trying to keep up to date with all the galaxy s news and post updates as often as I can.
The updates I will post will be about application tweaks, firmware updates, rom news, sim unlock etc...
Updates will include all of the galaxy s phones.
Galaxy S I9000, Vibrant, and the Captivate.
If there are updates that i've either missed or you think they're very important, just tweet back at me, or email [email protected]
Very nice thank you for doing this.
I was just doing a search on Twitter for Captivate and galaxy s.
no problem.
Havn't seen any decent updates yet though.

I happen to go through my google reader this morning and found an interesting article on Softpedia about Android 2.2 coming to Galaxy S in more markets. It is a very interesting read. Has anyone heard anymore info about this topic? The update will supposedly be available on the samsung website.

Here is the original post about the froyo update
http://www.tgdaily.com/mobility-brief/52521-samsung-galaxy-s-finally-gets-its-turn-with-android-22
I guess this topic is already being talked about in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840573
This update is not for the US market but for everyone else. I found this comment on the Galaxy S twitter page:
@imms0fat Hi Rich. Thx for that article. It refers to non-US phones. Samsung USA and TMO should release 2.2 by the end of the year.
So us US folks are left in the cold til years end
Just thought I would pass this along. From a chat I had today.

info: Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
info: You are now chatting with 'Sylvester'
Sylvester: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: When will the Captivate be getting Froyo? Why doesn't Media Hub work yet?
Sylvester: I understand that you want to know when will Froyo be available for your phone, am I correct?
Visitor: Yes. Does the phone have to have Froyo for Media Hub to work?
Sylvester: I am sorry, but we are unable to speculate when/if this software revision might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion
Sylvester: However, media hub is a different application and is not related to the Froyo update.
Visitor: Is this your response or the "Canned" response put out by Samsuing? Are you saying that it may not ever be available for the Captivate?
Visitor: How do you get Media Hub to work?
Sylvester: It is not a canned response, you will get the update very soon.
Visitor: Which update? Media Hub or Froyo?
Sylvester: Media Hub is only available for the Galaxy Tab and the Epic phone.
Sylvester: The Froyo update.
Visitor: One of the reasons I got this phone was for Media Hub. Samsung represented that is was feature of the phone.
Sylvester: I can understand your concern, but there will be an update very soon for your phone for both Froyo and the Media Hub.
Sylvester: Not to rush you , are we still connected?
Visitor: Can you speculate as to how soon? WIll it be over the air or a Kies update? I have not been able to get Kies to see my phone.
Visitor: Will the update come from Samsung or AT&T?
Sylvester: It will be an over the air update and it will be posted on our website in the Samsung Download Center
Sylvester: It will be from the Samsung and the Froyo update is provided by both.
Visitor: Do you have any idea of how soon we should see it?
Sylvester: I can not speculate the estimated time of approval, but i can assure it will be in the next few days.
Visitor: So I am to understand that it has not been approved yet? If so, how can it be coming out in the next few days? A few days sounds like less than a week!
Visitor: Approved by Samsung or AT&T?
Sylvester: I can assure that it will be released soon because the update has been released fo rthe Samsung intercept phone and it was successfull.
Visitor: What about the indefinite postponement of the Vibrant update? Will that have any effect on the Captivate update
Visitor: Soon is very vague. Will it be in a few days or soon?
Sylvester: It will definitely be in the next few days for sure.
Visitor: Thanks for your help. I look forward to the update.
Sylvester: You are welcome and wish you a very "Happy New Year."
Visitor: You too!
Sylvester: Thanks.
Sylvester: It was a pleasure assisting you. Thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. If you have a minute, please click on the blue “X close” button to receive a transcript of your chat and fill out a brief survey to help us serve you better. Have a wonderful day!

Did you post this over at the AT&T wireless forum, or did you just copy and paste this from the AT&T wireless forum?
http://forums.wireless.att.com/t5/S...-Captivate-or-in-general/td-p/1992573/page/18
I posted there too! Different screen name from my old smart phone days.
Come on man...do we really need another BS thread about when Froyo will be official? Use the media hub from the Epic. These threads are pointless.

Considering how many of these threads that are posted with no information of value i would highly doubt most users find these threads useful. Your chat has no info at all that clarifies the froyo issue. So what is useful when you chat with a rep giving standard and or bs answers to keep you happy.
This is my captivate. There are many like it buy this one is mine.
i for one, do appreciate OP for the info.

Samsung & AT&T will release it whenever they damn well please. Samsung twitter & facebook are filled with unhappy posts.. and they still go unheeded.

The real thing that should be advertised is the way that ATT & Samsung are doing to their U.S. customers. Facebook & Twitter is overwhelmed by 2.2 froyo requests and yet they go unanswered.
I have gone through this thread and cleaned up the off-topic posts. A reminder that members have two options when visiting a thread:
Option 1
Responding with helpful and constructive information as opposed to "use the search", "try Google", etc.
Option 2
Move on. There is absolutely no reason to respond in a rude tone or to make someone feel stupid ... it is not constructive and serves no purpose.
There seems to be a significant amount of animosity in Android-related forums. I'm not certain as to why this is, nor do I want to hear any reason for justification; what I do know is that it is unacceptable.
XDA is about bringing together folks who have similar passions about mobile technology. As the forum is accessed worldwide, you will encounter all types of folks from different walks of life; some of these folks will be extremely technical, others not. In all cases, it is the responsibility of all members to remain respectful of one another. We all have different opinions, we do not all have the same level of knowledge, and some folks are looking to feel like they are learning while trying to contribute.

title and this webpage say all
http://www.gizmocrunch.com/android/5375-samsung-captivate-froyo-update
pay attention to "About the ongoing Samsung Froyo fiasco" talkin about user SamsungJohn
dont see anything regarding xda getting slammed
2.2 has not been released and the article does not slam XDA. Why was this post even made?
Either this article is written in Asia or they are from the future. I don't see any info which is of importance...
Quote from article
" Just yesterday, things took a turn for the worse when a Samsung Mobile rep attempted to reach out to the upset Galaxy S owners via the XDA Developers Forums. The stunt was seen as nothing more than PR grabbing by the members of XDA and worsened the relationship between US Galaxy S owners and Samsung Mobile."
ATT 2.2 here

I guess you can perceive that the article is slamming xda by assuming our members here were hostile towards john. But the article already informs that it was just a samsung pr stunt. The title of this thread is misleading. The only thing this article does is assume that there is no ota update because it will be available via kies mini which is not a good assumption because the previous update was available both ways. This is all pure speculation because no official froyo update has even been announced.

a long while ago there was an AT&T support page showing how to find something or another and the support page showed that the firmware was 2.2, it has since been changed to a 2.1 firmware version, but as we all know, froyo hasnt happened. so, probably nothing.
Yeah the article still does not slam XDA...and as stated before a page telling you how to update does not mean there is an update.

Is this page new? It links only to Kies Mini rather than to the firmware itself, and no one seems to have reported anything about updates starting, and lord only knows, we'd be hearing a lot if it was really downloadable, and the fact that the page includes the lines
Modifications:
MobiTV: Renamed to T_Mobile TV
and
What are risks for performing the upgrade?
This upgrade has been thoroughly tested by Samsung and AT&T to be compatible with Captivate devices running previous versions of the released software. Customers who are running unsupported operating systems (e.g. those that are rooted or have not been received from T-Mobile and Samsung) should move forward at their own risk.
makes me think this is a placeholder page being updated in advance of the real thing and not something intended to be clicked on.
We have enough threads about this.

In my sadness of downgrading back to froyo, I asked HTC when their official release of gb would be out and got this email:

Unfortunately, Summer 2011 means anything between April and September.
why can't google make something like where you download os update separate from vendors? so you can update your phone to latest without bringing in useless vendor who only if something slows things down?!
thats what they said before the phone was launched, initially it was june, it might happen since we already had a leak that was pretty stable other than the radio and camera app, so keep your fingers crossed. I am thinking at the end of june.
Free wireless hotspot promo ends June 15 and VZW already said it would be disabled with an ota. Hopefully that will be our gingerbread also.

it could happen if google had a list of parts vendors are allowed to use. Everyone uses different cpu's, gps chips, wifi, and crap and that's why the os is so fragmented. If google had a set standard for hardware specs it wouldn't be so hard.
Android will always be fragmented, It doesn't mean how many companies sign up for the promised os updates for 18 months. This is one thing that is bad about android. My next phone will be google branded, atleast it has the best support possible.
Didn't they set up like a committee thing with all the companies to speed up the updating process?

Those same companies would also prefer that you purchase a new phone rather than have to support their existing ones.
Im not going to hold my breath waiting for Verizon. Maybe for a more stable leaked release.
If you're going to run with a rooted Bolt you're not going to care when Verizon releases the OTA because by the time they actually do it just about everyone in this forum will be running the leaked (& safe for rooted bolts) radios and ROM of some kind.
We'll also probably see the OTA weeks before VZW acutally pushes it (unless somehow jcase and company can't get their hands on a leaked version and make it safe for rooted phones before the OTA pushes...which I wouldn't bet money on.)
maybe it the start of OZ's summer, so that would make it like december.
Wonder where these leaks come from?
I am more excited about all ROMs moving to GB with stable base. The community ROMs work so much better than the vendor released for my taste.
Hi Developers...
Samsung's Value Pack for Galaxy S just leaked. I think this will open more tweaks to all you guys... Hope that some features of this high end phones will be available to "ALL" android phones..
check sammobile for this latest news.
** sorry can't post it as link
Ive had a look around on sammobile and all i can find is :-
No plans for Value Pack or Android 4.0 for Galaxy S
Bad new for all Samsung Galaxy S owners.
A spokespersoon at Samsung told us threre will be no update or ‘Value Pack’ for the Samsung Galaxy S.
Samsung told a couple of weeks ago they cannot update because of hardware problems.
Many people get angry on that and they open a online petition page.
Because there are too many people angry on Samsung, they told we will check again.
A week after is the result still bad.
No Android 4.0 or ”Value Pack” updates!
http://www.sammobile.com/2012/01/04/no-plans-for-value-pack-or-android-4-0-for-galaxy-s/
IF you could post something to help me find it that would be great
